So, I just want to say that I am legitimately really pissed right now, so sorry if I sound like I'm raging. I was running my flyer on GB when I first got it and the SD card read media fine. I upgraded to HC, and all was well at first. Then, it randomly stopped reading any of my media. I wiped SD, cleared caches, tried actually ALL the ROMs, and every suggestion I could find. I downgraded to GB, and everything worked again. Just upgraded back to HC, and absolutely nothing is read again. I'm on Virtuous right now. I am so angry, as I HATE gingerbread, but since I have a WiFi Flyer, I HAVE to use SD card music. AUGH. I want to punch someone.
Just a suggestion (and don't be angry at me ): try another sdcard, I know yours is working with GB but I found out sometimes a cable or a little piece of hardware can be tricky and behave oddly.
I already tried the SD from my Inc2. No dice. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
Too bad, but don't loose hope for Noob's Guide #7
LOL. If I make any more, then I have to make a directory thread, because my sig is like 5 characters away from being full. I can't even write that I have the OG Sammy Gtab.
i was having problems with the HTC gallery app on my wifi flyer after HC upgrade. Installed the stock HC gallery, and havent had an issue since.
I use mVideo player too, and that always finds things on my SD card straight away.
In regards to music, try the PlayerPro free trial and see if that is any better. I've used it on my S2 for a while now and it's great.
I think the issue is to do with the way the HTC apps interact with the storage. Its like it has the index of the SD card set to refresh only on a certain action, but I'm as yet to discover what that is.
Also, try running the flyer without the 'fast boot' mode on in power settings.
I never use fastboot mode. I have been mounting and unmounting as well as rebooting and have been rewarded with nothing but Media force closes.

I have already experienced a similar issue using HC ROMs ( Stock/Cooked ), and it was one of the main reasons I reverted back to GB ROMs, see me post HERE and HERE.
a member mentioned a solution HERE, but I haven't tried it...
i can confirm the above fix works for the HTC stock apps.
Yeah, well, I already had seen and tried that, and no dice. Thanks for the help though. I really want to use stock music, but I'm using PowerAmp for now, which seems to work fine.

I have been running CM7 since the first pre-beta release as my daily driver, this problem has always existed and I am beginning to think its either settings or my particular phone. The phone itself, CM7 works quite well, scrolls quick and almost all the stock things work quick.
However, most apps have issues hanging and I have the option of closing the app or waiting. If I choose to wait the app will eventually start working after having to click wait several times. It does not appear to be linked to one app, I do not have many apps installed, however here are some of the apps I have with the issue... facebook, espn score center, words with friends. On occasion the gallery will also have issues.
Here is more information about my phone and what I have tried.
Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-ba2tF-Olympus
Kernel: 2.6.32.39-mb860-cm7-g54722f1
baseband: N_01.97.00R
I have tried clearing cache, data, etc. Reinstalling. Removing and readding apps. I tried sd speed increase with little or no improvement. I thought that maybe where the apps are installed is an issue, however do not exactly understand where the storage is as my external sd card and internal "sd card" appear almost identical with folder structure. (I thought this was odd...)
So my question is, has anybody had this issue or have any suggestions on how to fix it? I have searched for weeks trying to find a solution with no success anywhere. I would like to think its something stupid as my phone quadrant scores are around 3700.
Thanks for taking the time to read and any advice!
So after a month of owning the View, I decided to try Honeycomb. I used globatron's process, as I am S-Off (HBOOT 6.12.1002, if memory serves, if that makes any difference). (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409306)
The process completed flawlessly, but the tablet was SO SLOW. I know it's not the end-all of performance metrics, but with Gingerbread, Linpack scores were in the mid 50's; with Honeycomb, they topped out in the low 20's (my EVO 4G does high 30's and is underclocked to 921MHz). Apps and menus would take more than a second to load. Some apps didn't even work - YouTube would force close if I tried watching a video (and when I searched for YouTube in the market, in hopes of an update, it didn't even show up!); the gallery didn't recognize a single picture that I had stored on the device, except for the ones in the camera's own folder. It also drained a LOT of battery in a short amount of time.
I searched for Honeycomb issues, but I found nothing reporting these kinds of problems. I've since gone back to Gingerbread so that it's useable (and thanks to the Nandroid, it's like I never tried HC), but what the hell was wrong with my Honeycomb install?
Furthermore, my girlfriend's View was laggy when she did the OTA to Honeycomb, and she had me downgrade her back to Gingerbread only a couple days later. The rave reviews of HC on the View just have me wondering "why not me?!" Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
did you clean install?
Can you clarify what you mean by "clean install"? I've not heard that terminology before...
I meant wipe/hard factory reset and wipe cache, that's what I usually do before flashing. I suggest try to flash other HC Rom like leedroid and see if you will get improvements.
I wiped data and cache before starting the process. Perhaps I'll try again with a different ROM, but I figured the stock ROM should've worked smoothly.
Yes very

Try this rom. Solved all my speed issues with HC. You'll love it.

^ I'll give it a shot tonight, thanks!
To be honest, I couldn't quite figure out what the benefit of Sense on HC was... I've used my friend's Xoom briefly, and saw no functional differences. I suppose probably widgets, given that that's where most of the benefits of Sense are.
I'll post results once I'm able to evaluate.
Thanks again!
Flashed it last night. Had to flash it twice because the first time it absolutely would not maintain a wifi connection (not even long enough for me to get an IP address and switch to static IP).
Seemed smooth (low-30's MFLOPS), but the G-sensor (or accelerometer) was a bit jittery - games like SpeedX 3D were all over the place, and the holographic images in the gallery were shaking. Had me worried I was developing Parkinson's.
Of more pressing importance, I couldn't access any multimedia stored in a folder other than DCIM from the Gallery app, and couldn't even open images through a file explorer. Flashed back to stock Gingerbread so it's usable while I investigate.
Frustrating that I just can't get Honeycomb to work properly on this damn thing. lol

There's a fix for getting the system to rescan your memory cards; I'll look in a bit and see if I can't post it here. As for HC working properly, I love it. The de-Sensed HC was a thing of beauty. If I can lay my hands on a De-Sensed version of LeeDroid's work I'd be in heaven. The standard HC interface was clearly created in response to Sense's user-friendliness, and they came up with a superior product.
I looked around, but never saw a definitive answer... most of what I saw was "clear cache!" or "clear data!" but those didn't work for me. When my girlfriend's had the problem (while on Gingerbread), opening the image in ES File Explorer and choosing Gallery as the default app for those file types usually corrected it.
And I do like Honeycomb, and love the ability to resize widgets, I just need it stable and fully functional before I'm comfortable sticking with it. My work phone is a Galaxy Nexus, and I LOVE ICS, but Honeycomb is damn close in style and functionality.
I can't find the posting I saw, but it essentially was to create a directory of a certain name on the card, and that forced the Flyer to re-scan the entire card, graphics and all. Evidently something akin to a thumbnail cache can get corrupted and that causes this issue, and creating that directory forces that file to be recreated entirely. I'm still kinda new to Android, so I don't know where the nomenclature diverges from Intel-based storage management...
Thanks for taking the time to look around. I found this, but it says it's for the Music folder... perhaps I should try the same in the Pictures folder.
That directory name looks very familiar, but you're right, it's for music, not graphics. It might work for you, what's the worst that can happen?
The other thing that occurred to me is to swap the micro-SD card with another one. Placing a new card in forces "stuff" to kick in, and I'd imagine the process needs to repeat once to replace the old card back in the slow. Or at least a portion of the process to see if it "knows" that old card when you put it back in.
The content is stored in the internal memory - not on an external SD card (I only use the external card for Nandroid backups and things of the like). That's what's so baffling to me - it's the View's own non-removable memory that isn't being scanned for pictures and videos.
Not only wipe data and cache, but also format system, wipe dalvik in recovery when doing a fresh rom install for best results.

Hello,
I've searched but nobody seems to have my particular problem. I moved a bunch of Apps via App2Sd from my Phone to my SD card, thinking it would help eliminate the "Insufficient storage device" error that kept popping up. It did the trick, but my phone became insanely slow as a response...and it periodically reboots every 1-3 minutes. I'm not quite sure what I did - or rather, how exactly moving Apps to my SD card could wrought such havoc on my phone. My phone is not rooted, and I have not made any effort to modify it beyond the normal means. Could anyone assist me? I'd appreciate it.

I have a very vague recollection of the stock recovery but I believe there is a way to wipe CACHE (not DATA) from it. Try that first.
Also, If you're not rooted then that app is not doing anything you can't already do on the stock rom. I would try moving the apps back and then get rid of that app. You can move individual apps through phone settings > applications. That app only moves apps that can already be moved by stock Android.
If all else fails you may be looking at a factory reset. That's the crummy thing about an unrooted phone, if something goes wrong you don't have many options.

I can't specifically remember, but I moved almost everything. It's likely that I moved my launcher, GoLauncher. As for widgets, I only have one widget, BusinessCalendar, and since that doesn't function from the SD card (as far as I know), I left it there.
In the end I removed my SD card and, predictably, the phone worked just fine. I wanted to avoid it, but I guess I'm just gonna mount and clear my SD card.

For some reason it seems not much people know that if all your apps are on your INTERNAL it will be extremely faster. The UI throughout the phone will significantly increase. Guarantee you that.
The phone has to locate read the app from the SD then boot it save data on SD= lag.
As above, and some apps do not play well on the external sd even though they can be put there. I'm pretty sure the launcher should be on the internal sd.
If you really are out of space on the internal, then only move one, or a small number of apps to external, and then only one at a time, to see the effects. Also, choose the ones you use the least.
I'd suggest you move everything back to the internal memory and see if the phone functions normally again. If so, then move apps to external as I mentioned above. If not, you may have to wipe data/factory reset and set everything up all over again.
What ROM are you running? I recommended flashing something light and tight to improve your overall experience. Try Ethereal, or Vagabond for that matter. Light GB ROMs, and super stable.

Hi all...I have been flashing for about a year now and I need help finding a JB Rom that works correctly. I have tried a few different ones, and most won't show my pictures or music even after I followed the guides to fix these issues. So I flashed Miui JB latest Rom and its real nice, but no BLN?? So, which JB Rom is stable for you with working GPS, mms, and shows no issue with music or picture files...AND has working BLN? If I could just find a kernel that would work with the MIUI JB rom to enable BLN I would be golden...alas, I can't find one and Devil won't work. Thanks guys!
I've been on AOKP 9-20 with Devil 1.5.2 with almost no issues. The only problem I was having was a few force-closes while using the camera, although after a few reboots it seems to have gone away. I plan to flash the new AOKP build 3 later on, which people are having great results with. I was on CM10 for a long time before this and everything was working perfectly, but I came back to AOKP mainly because Devil didn't work that great with CM10 and I missed blinking notifications and better performance options.
tl;dr AOKP or CM10 are both great

Hey thanks for responding! You haven't had issues with losing pictures or music files?? They are on the sdcard but no music player can see them...same as pictures, although QuickPic seems able to pull them up...I flashed the latest CM10 nightly, no music no pics...went back to stock and worked up to AOKP nightly, same issue! Got mad and flashed Miui JB and poof everything showed! Weird! I followed some of the guides I found through search for how to fix the issue but nothing worked...no problems with this for you though??
EDIT: I clean flashed AOKP build 3 and NO music or pictures!!! Going to flash the Devil and see if that makes any difference.
Yeah I've have no issues with pictures or music on any rom I've tried, however I'm no longer using the sd card that came with the phone. I had an issue mounting the sd card when I originally started flashing my phone (I had zero issues with the card before that time) and decided right away to buy a better sd card before flashing anything else. I ended up getting a 32GB class 10 which has been flawless. So basically the only thing I could think might be going on might be related to the sd card failing, especially if you're still using the junky one they give you with the phone initially.

I have the same sdcard I don't know, it's all over Google and XDA about this bug...I just feel like the only person on a fascinate that has it! Thanks for giving me some input tho!
If I were in your spot I'd probably try a different sd card if you have one available to try, or backup all contents of your sd card to your PC, format the sd card, and then transfer everything back.

LOL I tried that too. I honestly did everything I could think of or every tweak I found...that's why I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a JB rom that did not have this issue. It's cool though, I started using Google Music...transferred my music onto my pc and uploaded to Google music site. Then every time I update AOKP, I just will get the app and it will download the music to my cell. Not a perfect solution but it's tolerable! As far as pix, as long as I use Quick Pic they show up just fine. Of course I have to use a third party camera app since the AOKP camera won't work since gallery isn't. Thanks for any help!
I remember there being an issue with rom manager creating a .nomedia 'hidden' file:::: here is from a post of what I did to fix that issue::
Yep I was having this issue too,,, yesterday I had tried clearing the gallery cache and data,,, today I 1st tried clearing the media storage cache and data,,, hoping maybe just possibly that would help ... but it didn't... Also Tried both of my SD Rescan widgets, but neither worked ... so I uninstalled the ROM manager update which took me from 5.0.1.5 and asked me if I wanted:: " to replace this app with the factory version " which I clicked ""OK"" and that put it back to version 5.0.1.1 ,,,
then I cleared :: media storage,,, gallery,,, and Apollo :: cache and data ,,, and rebooted .... wallaha!!! gallery shows properly!!... THANKS everyone ,,,
,,,may have been slightly overkill but I what the heck,, just in case gallery and Apollo had anything hanging around ...
Now you were saying that when you flashed MUIU everything worked? I wonder if you could pull the Camera.apk from that rom and install it on AOKP to see if it'll work
I'm having the exact same issue.

Same issue here, happened a couple of cm10 nightlies ago. Never had a problem before, there were no reports of it happening to others but only a few of my pictures loaded, no music was recognized, neither were my custom ringtones, or videos. ODINed back to stock and it carried back to that... no idea how to fix it... although I think it is an sd card issue, the phone just isn't recognizing there being media on the card or only partially. Namely because if I pull the ringtone from sd and place in the ringtone folder in /system they appear. Tried just about everything, specially after hearing about the Rom Manager issue with .nomedia's being placed were it shouldn't have.
Other things I've noticed is that, an app like Root Explorer can access my sd and recognize the files inside to which I can select and use, but even after opening the picture/song/video they still don't show up in their respective apps. Also note, I have reformatted my sd card and ODINed back to stock to start over with no luck in either. I've since installed Rom Manager with no luck either.

Hmm I wonder? But how would that have any effect on the music part of it? Honestly I can live without the stock camera and gallery, its the fact that all my music is missing is the worst part...
Does MUIU have it's own music player? I never used it, so I don't know. If it does, take the apk from the rom and put it on AOKP to see if your music shows up. I wonder if this is just a glitch that hasn't been addressed simply because not that many people have encountered it. Perhaps this is a big enough issue to be posted in the general Q&A forums? Maybe that way you'll get more views and possibly better answers from people on other devices that may have got this bug.
I believe JB puts something on the sd card so ics and below won't show all of the media. I went back to JB and everything shows up fine.

Yup, that's exactly how mine is...I can see the files on root explorer or if I usb to pc but no matter what app I use to play music it says no music found on sdcard. I've used rescan app, moved onto pc and then formatted sd, blah blah. Nothing works. Oh well, it isn't enough to make me leave AOKP...I just work around it and wait for a fix I tried cm10 nightly, cm10 8/19, and a few others...same issue. Also if I use an mp3 downloader it will complete the download but when I try to play the song, it's NOT found! Crazy. I'm glad I'm not the only one!
using steves sept 27 build of aokp with devil 1.6 is my favorite and daily driver right now. only issue thats a serious problem is if you turn it on while its off and plugged in charging, it has a SOD or completely dies when i lock the screen. simple fix, turn on, as soon as you see samsung logo plug it in. this also fixes having no soft keys if you get that every now and then. no issues with with the gallery, camera, music or anything. i always odin back to GB stock and then go forward with THS build 2 of ics, then JB, then google apps and boot, restart to recovery then flash the kernel. im seriously impressed with this build

It could be a coincidence but it wouldn't hurt to try swapping SD cards if you have another laying around. They're also dirt cheap on amazon now too

The Internet said:
This trick didn't work for me. So, I did what the system should have done with the .nomedia file present. I moved all of my photos to a hidden folder (with a . before the name) and removed the DCIM folder. Then, I looked for all instances of the .nomedia file (Root Explorer helped) and deleted them. Rebooted the phone. Started Gallery. Waited for 10 minutes. Voila! Gallery showed every little image file that was on /sdcard. To remove the files that I didn't want to see, I copied the .nomedia file from a random system folder and pasted it into all the folders that I didn't want indexed. Strangely though, moving even one of the original /sdcard/DCIM/Camera files from the hidden folder into the current Camera folder took Gallery down. Stranger that this also made the Internal Storage show a blank window when I connected the phone to my laptop. Almost positive that this has to do with JellyBean creating a /storage/sdcard0 folder that's linked to the older /sdcard folder. Looking it up and will post updates if I find any.
Update: The same trick works for Paranoid Android's JellyBean ROMs (even the latest 2.13) for the Galaxy Nexus. Something to do with the DCIM folder and how it is handled by Media Storage. A Linux-geek friend of mine confirms this has to do with the /sdcard0 symlinking. Although, why we need something like that is beyond my limited knowledge of the OS.

Yes a root explorer and look for all those hidden .nomedia files and delete those ,,, and copy over an alternate .nomedia that was not associated with the sd card,,, that was one of them tricks

so in an attempt to make this just a little bit easyer on the eyes and brain ill start with what im trying to do
essentially i want at least android 2.3 with extended internal memory (the /sd-ext mount as /data) still being able to receive calls (i think cm7 rom wouldn't allow calls if i used the embedded a2sd) and at least skype working
ill go ahead and knock off the usual suspects
i used revolutionary to S-OFF and i cant remember how i rooted i think that was revolutionary as well installed CWM 5 somewhere along the line and the sd card is formatted correctly
so the main problem i am having is half the things i need to download are on out of date links or simply dont work (for example unrevoked) however through research and scripting on my part i have gotten it pretty close to what i really want the closest i got was with BCM-RC4 by zero cool which installed with reversed partitions through mounts2sd and it worked tremendously well android ice cream sandwich and everything was pretty much working
right up until i tried to use facebook or skype apps, facebook literally took hours to install and then hardly worked and despite having about 800mb of internal memory registered i was still getting low memory notifications wtf!? but somewhere along the line i changed the mounts2sd settings and facebook worked in a passable fashion
except skype...skype just refuses to work it starts and it logs in but as soon as i try to call i get a black screen with a blue skype icon at the top left and after a few minutes it crashes
i primarily tried to get cm7 to work since people said it was most stable however as a work around for the sd-ext problem i am having i have tried: S2E, A2SD, Root # All Data2SD, Link2SD, Apps 2 SD literally nothing has worked how i wanted it to and i've followed countless guides which have all resulted in one of 3 results (assuming the links they used are still valid or can be found at all) either the phone wont make or receive calls, certain apps wont work at all or the internal memory isn't extended anyway
im usually pretty good with things like this but i literally cannot for the life of me figure this out and it is doing my head in does anyone have any idea how to make this work
also i've changed to 4ext and im gonna try that out see if it produces more favorable results....so far not good

Click to collapse
so 4ext did produce more favorable results formatting was a lot easier as gparted wasn't actually making partitions...for some reason
i did manage to get skype working and the /sd-ext /data switch and everything looks good so far
i THINK im not sure but i think the default kernal (BCM comes with 3) wasn't working properly so i switched it to a different one and suddenly everything works perfectly
