Stock Motorola Music APK - Motorola Photon 4G

I rooted my phone a while back and installed Titanium backup. I started removing bloatware and apps I never use including the motorola default music app. Now when I try to switch to the default Motorola launcher from ADW, it force closes. I work at Radioshack and I kind of need it to demo to customers.
The backup I made with Titanium isnt restoring. I'm thinking I could fix this by reinstalling the default music player APK. I tried looking for it online but either the links are broken or the apk won't work. Does anybody have an suggestions or willing to upload the apk?
Thanks

Don't use a stock rom anymore but maybe you could extract it from the zip of a blur based rom. I think there are a few floating around that are stock with bloatware removed that may have what you need. Might be quicker than waiting for someone to upload or something to try while you wait.

I made a backup of my music apk using titanium backup..heres the link :

You can also alternatively search for "TuneWiki"
From the market, it's actually the music app that Motorola used as a model sort to speak, for the one in blur roms. Give it a shot.

I unzipped the file, but whenever I try to install I get "! Application not installed"
Anybody know why?

Demoing the actual music player is a rarity, but I'm trying to demo the default Motorola launcher itself and compare it to HTC and Samsung so that way the customer gets an idea of what the UI is like. Therefore, Tune Wiki will not work. I'm simply trying to get the Motorola launcher working again because I'm pretty sure removing the default music player is whats breaking the launcher.

It won't install on the HTC EVO LTE.

I'm almost positive that the exclusion of the default music app isn't whats causing Home to force close. I've uninstalled the blur music app many times without that result. Can you recall anything else that you uninstalled? Did you perhaps delete the actual Home.apk? That would obviously cause that FC. There are many many parts of blur that you arnt allowed to get rid of.
I do have the default music apk on my PC. I'll upload it for you after i get out of work.

Did your store not get a RAZR demo? If so, just use that.

[Q] Using stock android apps

Is there anyway to use the stock (or even the cyanogen modded) stock apps on the DroidX2. I've already tried copying them over to system/app and correcting permissions and even with a reboot, they don't show up.
Does anyone have any suggestions? In particular the stock sms/mms app and the stock calendar application.
Thanks so much
Marshall
the motoblur framework is what ****s it all up
Can't wait to get rid of that crap framework with a custom rom.
I really want custom roms... Like yesterday. Lol
Sent from my DROID X2
We all want custom roms, it be nice, but we need an unlocked bootloader and i have yet to hear of anyone actively working on one for the DX2, so for now we are stuck ..
god i miss my Nexus S
I'm sure once we see an OTA update, we'll have a better chance at unlocking the bastage. At least we have a leaked SBF file to help with those who have bricked. There's more incentive to hacking.
I just downloaded the extended version of the mms app from
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/04/15/download-new-mms-apk-with-custom-settings/
So far, it seems to work other then force closing when trying to change the font size... Hopefully It'll keep on working. It isn't the latest version that comes with cyano 7 but it'll do.
Next is trying to get the extended setting version of the dialer. I think thats going to be much harder to do
Note - The messaging app does work, but it force closes everytime you send a message out, although it does send the message out. DAMN BLUR!
I use a sms/MMS app that I took from a custom ROM about a year ago. I can't stand the MOTOBLUR sms/mms app, and this one looms more like the OG Droid app.

Hi, can you explain how you did that? I tried the one off of the current cyanogenmod 7 and it didn't work, and I tried a much earlier version I found on here, but it would force close after each message it sent.
The good news is that it looks like someone has gotten a custom recovery put on their x2 so developer progress is moving forward.

Which stock apps were you referring to ? You should be able to install to /system as long as you change the package name.

I had initially installed the program from my SD card, and that worked fine for the most part. It wasn't until about a week or so ago that it started giving me problems. I finally figured out to actually copy my MMS.apk to the system/app folder and then set the permissions to rw-r-r and then rebooted. This has worked for my X² and my husband's X and now both phones are working beautifully. I used Titanium Backup Pro to freeze the stock Text Messaging so that I don't get duplicate messages.

I got the android default dock app, and the extended messaging app working by taking it from cyanogenmod 6.something
The name of the blur text messaging app is called conversations.apk (took me forever to figure that out... ****ing motorola)
I"m debating about replacing the car dock application.... there are some nice things in the blur version.
What about the default Android Market app??? Has anybody tried that?? I don't want to have to see the verizon crap in my market.... I will try and pull it from a CM rom I have from back in the day, I think its 6 also... and give it a try but any help to point me in the right direction to make this work would be nice...

If you got that far, I suggest just going with QuikSense. Has a stock feel to it, just more memory and it's faster. Nice list of mods too. Working great for me. Past couple hours have been awesome.

Just say goodbye already! Haha. QuikSense has the stock feel, it's faster and doesn't have the useless crap. Do it up. Most of the apps that install from Market backup can be removed, like the T-Mobile apps if they auto copy over.
this should be in the general not development section.
anyways yeah flash quiksense. It's debloated stock, with enhancement in performance, battery life, and coolness.

you can virtually remove all the obvious widgets and apps. Just don't touch any that may sound that it would be used by the system itself. Some apps for example wifi calling with FC like there's no tomorrow, but it would be fixed if you fixed permissions in recovery..
Actually i think you can remove anything that has a widget lol
I'm wondering myself what apps should I remove from the ROM. I would be grateful for any description of following apk files so that it would be easier for me to decide. I can't test it myself because I don't have Amaze 4G.

I hate to revive an old thread, but I just switched to stock and tried removing some bloat, and with the stock ROM being odexed, I've had some issues trying to remove apps. So now I'm stock again, fully unlocked, rooted, and full of bloatware.
Now the OP posted my SAME EXACT question, but to no surprise to THIS community, he didn't get much of a TRUE answer aside from the one I quoted. Now that we've all had this phone for a while, is there any updates from others who are running stock rooted on what is safe/unsafe to debloat?
Thanks everyone
PS... And can a mod please move this to Q&A or general... Doesn't belong in development.

Well I know that --IQ-tmobile-release-signed-zipaligned-v1.1.apk-- is Carrier IQ, so you probably would want to remove that. The thing is, I don't know how badly it will mess with your phone though. So remove it at your own risk.

Yeah, there are 2 files associated with carrieriq...one is an odex file I think...use root explorer to find it. Just type in ciq in the search box and it will show both files. Once you remove the apk, you will have to do a battery pull

I'd prolly leave it. Make sure you do 'clear dalvik cache' from within tb after you've removed what you want. Save carrieriq (system manager) till the end because its gonna go into fc city once you uninstall it. Then pull the battery and reboot

Apps not staying installed

Some of my apps are not staying installed. Anyone else ever run into this problem? Then when I go into the settings/manage applications the com/blahblahblah file is there with a little SD card image next to it but nothing actually installed. I do not move the apps to the SD card either.
More information? Rom? Etc?
I have this very same issue on the stock rom, I am rooted running ADW ex I notice that an application is no longer installed after random reboots. Never consistently though. one random sd card app will disappear from my list of applications and would have to reinstall it from the android market or reboot several times and it may come back on its own.
Wow thats so weird. I swear I made a post about this back in Sept and people probably thought I was crazy lol. I would reboot and my XDA or Riptide Gp would always disappear. I couldn't understand it, those suckers were deleting themselves every time. I started using titanium backup and I would just go reinstall it along with data. It would happen to me using adwEX as well and once I went back to the stock launcher and it hasn't happened since. Going a month without an app deleting itself now. This issue is definitely way over my head...

How to you prevent google play upgrade?

I have the apk for the 3.4.4 market. I froze the market updater but when I install the Market apk within 5 minutes it updates to play. Is there a way to prevent the upgrade?
What's the big deal with preventing the update? Looks like exactly the same market with a name change to me. Just wondering what I'm missing and in no way trying to be a jerk.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
You dont want to stop the update because if you do, you will not be able to get apps or update current apps with the old market.
Anything else that relies on the newer market will fail as well. I doubt you could stop it anyway..
Install an older version of the Market and use Titanium Backup to freeze the Market Updater...but there's no good reason to not update.
The new market is great! LOL, it is pretty much the same. The only difference if you have a tablet and that allowed you to purches music through the app. Again looks pretty much the same. New name

personally the name change is annoying as all hell, google quit trying to program your brand name in my brain, when i want to buy and app or something i want to go to the market or to the store, not go to the google and pick up a new app.
every-time i'm in a rush trying to pull something from the app market i can't find the bloody icon because i'm looking for the market or in the old location on my app drawer, minor change i know but i have caught myself cussing at google when i needed to re-d/l my gps app after it crashed during a trip i as on a few days ago.
any chance of renaming the new app back to market without root?
Just use a launcher and if already do, just change the name duh..lol that's what I did ....

I also would like to learn how to get around using Play. The new terms seem to allow Google to read my sms messages and record the message routing. I don't think my correspondents would appreciate having their thoughts being part of Google's repertoire.

The only way to get around using Google Play is to not use android. What you're asking is the equivalent of saying you want to use an iDevice without the app store.

Memory needs > any update
I have a very good reason for not wanting auto-upgrades. Radio Shack misled me about the HTC Wildfire S and now I've got jack for memory. I have four apps installed, use only the native message app, and I'm lucky to have 25mb free. Anything less than that and the phone works as well as the Pony Express does today.
FWIW, Tandybot told me I could always install apps on the SD card. In theory, yes, but so few app devs code apps to work in that manner. Lesson learned.
kite edit: SNIP! No need for that kind of attitude around here, I'm afraid.

Nexus Q Working on ICS

I have some of this posted in the Q&A but thought it deserved a thread here as I now have it working with Google Play Music on ICS. I have not been able to get the new YouTube application ported over to ICS yes but I'm still working on it.I could probably get this working on Gingerbread by changing the manifest again but I no longer have a GB device so if someone really wants it let me know.
What you need:
The modified NexusQ.apk file from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28636772&postcount=23
The new 4.3.605 Google Play Music apk which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19423409&postcount=1
A Nexus Q and WiFi network.
A device running ICS. I used my Bionic running leaked ICS but I did have to root in order to install the new 605 Play Music application.
Instructions:
Install the new (4.3.605) Google Play Music application from Steve0007's posted linked above. If you get an "Existing package with same signature.." error you will need to do the following (this is what worked on my Bionic):
WARNING: ROOTING YOUR DEVICE AND CHANGING THE SYSTEM FILES CAN CAUSE BAD THINGS TO HAPPEN, PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Root your device (I used this method on my Bionic: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...gh-releases-ics-leak-root-exploit-bionic.html.) Install Root Explorer from the market and delete the existing com.google.android.play.music.xxx.xx.xxx apk from /system/app. Reboot device. Copy 605 apk to device and install.
END SCARY ROOT WARNING
Install the modified NexusQ.apk, plug in the Q, turn on Bluetooth on your device (it will prompt you to if you don't) and get connected! I had to go through the process several times before it successfully paired up but from what I've read the same is true on JB devices as well. If you need to wipe out the Q you do so by unplugging it, plugging it back in and as soon as the blue ring starts place your palm over the single LED on the top until the ring goes from flashing red to swirling purple. This will factory reset the device. Since getting both my Bionic and Xoom paired it's worked well.
Enjoy until the official ICS and below apps drop from Google.
If anyone is successful at getting the JB YouTube application working on ICS please let me know.
Thanks to everyone that helped me get this working!
Thanks a ton!!! I've added a link to this in my roll-up (here) in the general thread so others will find it. I'm now able to use my Nexus Q, thanks again!
Eventually I'll start learning to do some dev work :/
I followed your directions but I still cannot stream anything, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I was able to get the Nexus Q 8 Ball easter Egg to work.
What is your current status? Do you have the 4.3.605 music player installed? If so you should have the little "beam" icon on the top right when playing music and tapping that should make the Q almost instantly start streaming that song.

What device and OS are you using? Does your device show an installed Play Music application in the application list?

Can you uninstall the current Play Music app from the app manager in settings?? Are you rooted and if so do you have Root Explorer installed? Do you have the Android SDK / adb installed on your PC if I gave you adb commands to run?

Sorry it doesn't work. I'm on a Galaxy Nexus on CM9 and the NexusQ.apk installs and says play music needs to be updated but it doesn't update. When I try installing the APK it says application not installed. Nexus Q installs and sets up but still will not work with play movies or youtube. Very disappointed in google

Did you read the part about needing to manually remove the old play music application via root explorer (or a simple uninstall if allowed)? Have you tried either?
I wasn't too happy with Google either but the support page for the NQ does say that it is only working on JB until purchased units start shipping. Plus I've learned a lot getting this to work! ;-)

Yes I read that but the old play music was not in the system\apps directory but it was still installed so not sure. I force stopped it and uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still would not let me install the one listed.
Hmmm, I think that's two of you with problems installing on CM9. I don't have anything running that ROM (and you can probably tell I'm already pretty much at the limits of my skills) but perhaps it is installed differently in that ROM. Unfortunately I don't think I can help you with this one.

Just though I should specify what rom I had success with. I copied the app to /system/app folder and changed the permissions. I did NOT have google music previously installed. When I ran the app to install it said install failed. I then installed the NexusQ app directly from my SD card, which installed no problems. I did not try to run the NexusQ app and rebooted the phone. Once rebooted i turned on my WIFI and bluetooth and launched the NexusQ app and rebooted the Nexus Q. The app paired up with the Q no problem. I was then able to run Google Music app and play to the Q with no issues. *NOTE* When i walked out of the house (i did not manually disconnect the wifi or bluetooth, just hit the stop play music button and turned off the TV and receiver) and came back later, turned the TV and receiver back on, the visualizations or music track would not show at all. Just the NexusQ home screen. I rebooted the Q and everything is working fine again.
No, youtube does not work (which I think is posted an original post somewheres). It seems that a ported app will be needed to push youtube videos to the Q. I cannot test Google movies/TV as I dont own any.
I've tried exactly this on my HTC One S running ICS (albeit with HTC Sense) and can't get it to stream to the Q.
Everything installs fine (if I move it to /system/apps and change the permissions as mentioned) but I see no option in the Play Music app to stream to the Q.
Additionally, the new Play Music app looks it has lost quite a bit of functionality to the previous version - perhaps indicating that the installation went badly? For instance, there are much fewer options on the settings page and there's no option to choose or configure my Google account anywhere.
bobukcat - is this the case for you?

Yes that worked for me!
It still took a bunch of tries to get it to do anything though.
For a long time, and several reboots, the Q didn't show up in the list of devices in Play Music...
No idea what I did, but all of a sudden it showed up.
Volume control from the phone still doesn't work, and YouTube/Videos don't work either.
At least now I can enjoy it a bit until they release the real apps.
Thanks a ton for all the pointers and packages!
What order did you install the packages? Play Music first and then the Q app? Or the other way around?

The Q app first.
When the Q finally showed up in the new Play Music app, it was after turning wifi off/on a few times ... don't know if that's what finally did it though.

No, my play music application has all the previous functionality and even more options in Settings, including Nexus Q settings. Did you install the Q application first? I don't know why this would matter but that is what I did.
Did you just move the new play music apk to the /system/app location or did you actually install it from application manager in Astro or other file manager? I don't know that just moving the apk to that folder will work (I don't think I even tried that) so you may have to delete the old one, reboot and then install the new one from the apk. Please try that and let us know if it works.

Yeah, I've tried to rebuild the YouTube application from JB with a new manifest multiple times but I still can't get it to work right, I did finally get it to install but it just constantly FCs and never really runs. Clearly someone much more skilled than I (which wouldn't take much) at modifying apks would need to look into this or we just wait for the official app from Google to drop.
Strange that the volume control from your phone doesn't work, as long as I'm in the Play Music application it works fine on both my Bionic and Xoom.
As reported in the OP I too had lots of errors and force closes, etc. when trying to get this to run the first time but from what I've read that happens on JB devices too and in fact I had a few on my Xoom running TeamEOS nightlies.
