Odin not recognizing Tab in Download mode - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When simply powered on, Odin will recognize my tab (10.1 WiFi Only 7510). But will not recognize in DL mode... grrrrr. Any suggestions?

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers on the PC?

Yes, I did. Reinstalling the drivers did not work. I tested with USB debug off, this did nothing in Odin either.

Of course it wouldn't; toggling a USB debug setting on the device while booted into it's operating system will have no affect on how the device is going to work in download mode as download mode is completely independent from the operating system itself. It's like comparing a PC's BIOS to an installation of Windows or Linux on the PC.
Your issues with Odin and download mode are most likely on the PC side and NOT on the tablet side. The Samsung drivers are very temperamental. Sometimes they don't play well with other devices and sometimes they don't work well with certain chipsets or USB controllers. My suggestion is try different USB ports, avoid using USB HUBs and try reinstalling drivers as well as disabling antivirus on the PC temporarily.
It may even be advantageous to have device manager open while you connect the tab in download mode to see how the PC is recognizing it. The tab should never be connected while you're attempting to get into download mode, leave it disconnected and have Odin fired up and prepped until you get the tab in download mode. Seeing how device manager picks it up might help diagnose driver issues.

same problem, varios computers
Hello everyone! I also have this issue whereas my gt-p7500 dont even exists to the system in download mode. I tryed 3 computers so far, even on linux in download mode heimdall wont recognize the tablet. what I have done so far:
(on 1st pc win7)
- installed kies, and updated to latest version. On normal mode the tablet gets recognized, all drivers install throught the end, kies works fine, managing folders and files as storage device also works fine.
- turned on usb debugging, and connected to pc again. A new driver MPC is installed, kies still works, pc communication also.
- rebooted the device in download mode, and after this conected again to the pc. Nothing new is detected.
-- Odin can see the device on normal mode, and if its turned off (charge mode) but on download mode nothing happens.
(on 2nd pc, win 7)
- didnt install kies, only samsung drivers
- inserted the tablet in 3 ways on the cpter, normal node, normal mode with debugging on, and download mode to all new devices and drivers to be detected.
- odin dont work on download mode, but can see the tablet as the example above, normal mode, normal mode with debug on and turned off (charge mode)
(3rd pc, debian 64)
- installed heimdall via git, latest package. Also wont detect the device on download mode, whereas it can see the tablet on normal mode.
on 3 pcs, tryed ALL usb ports, tryied openning odin first, and then connecting the device, tryed conecting the device first and then openning odin... nothing works while in download mode.
also Iv reseted the device to factory defaults to test, nothing changed.
On the first pc iv also tryed downloading older drivers versions from samsung, spreaded all over xda foruns on other threads. the oldest version Iv tryed was 1.4.x,
Please helpe me on this, cant figure out how to get the device detected in download mode on the pc... getting very annoyed on this already, and tryed all the possibilities I could imagine so far.

Are you using a laptop? Bcz pc can iddntify. I also had same problem with my laptop. It was recognizinging it as media device but not in download mode. So try to cknnect it to the CPU of the Pc
HIT THANKS WHENEVER POSSIBLE OR IF I HELPED YOU...

Not necessarily computer related, past experience for me has shown that not all versions of Odin work with this tab......the newer versions are NOT so good
Try this version uploaded and these drivers - try odin first if you are sure of your drivers, otherwise install the drivers first
Let us know how you go....

Hi
I had the same issue and those files solved it
Thank you

Samsung Galaxy TAB P1000(Ordin detection in DOWNLOAD MODE)
Initially google SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86 . Download the file in your pc or laptop and install it. Then switch-off the tab and Press power and Volume down button simultaneously to get into the download mode. This time Samsung tab would be detected in the Ordin.

[Q] Unknown Device :(

Hi everyone,
i'm having difficulties to connect my sgs2 to a pc.
i have tried it on 3 different machines (win7 64, win7 64, winxp 32) with the same problem:
I works fine when i first connect the phone in download mode. But as soon as i disconnect the cable i can't connect it again. Windows sais that it doesn't recognize the device and that's it. The device manager shows an "Unknown Device" under USB-Controller. And i am not even able to install drivers by manually pointing windows to a file.
as already sais, i have tried that on 3 different machines. I have tried installing driver via kies and via the driver file that is available here in the forums. i have also tried different usb ports.
Any ideas?
Goddchen
EDIT: Maybe this is an important information: the phone connects fine as long as it is running (can be found via adb, logcat is working, etc...) it only makes problem when in download mode...
I had exactly the same issue yesterday on my Windows 7 box. In the end I connected the phone in normal (not download) mode. Into device manager and uninstalled the drivers through there.
Then I uninstalled Kies and reconnected the phone, I allowed Windows to search windows update to find drivers (not that it did as it couldn't find any and reverted to the local ones. Then disconnect the phone, re-install Kies, run the install drivers from the tools menu, close Kies. Run up Odin and the connect the phone in Download mode, low and behold 2 minutes later after a lengthy installation process the phone was picked up.
I tried a number of things but for some reason this specific order seemed to sort it.
Hey,
thanks for you hints. But they didn't work for me.
I found the problem: believe it or not, it was THE CABLE. I went and got another cable and this one is working fine all the time. The other one doesn't... Very strange...

download mode -> unknown device

Hello everyone,
I've searched for a solution over the forum but I didn't find any solution..
So my problem is that I can't use Odin because windows doesn't recognize my phone on Download mode.
I have the drivers installed, Kies and windows recognize my GS2 without problems.
I've tried with different cable, different USB port, uninstall/reinstall drivers many times, from Kies or from samsung web site.
I just have no idea why in download mode windows doesn't use the installed drivers..
Help?
Thanks!
Did you try in a different PC?
I am sure driver is the only cause. Perhaps you can try following. Install Kies, then connect phone once and check if Kies detects your phone
Which version of Windows are you using? I am using Windows 7 and its working fine. I did root yesterday and Windows detected drivers and also it had to download from net for some reason. In the end it did work
USB cable to main board connection .
Reboot phone turn USB debugging off .
Set USB to Mass storage mode .
Connect cable and let Windows find USB drivers .
jje
Did you terminate every Kies process before opening Odin?
Hello,
Thanks for the answers.
I'm running on windows 7 64. But it didn't try on another pc.
Windows does install drivers and recognize my phone in USB to Mass storage mode.
But still not recognize it in download mode and yes I've terminated every Kies process.
I know that in Download mode windows install some new/different (?) drivers. When I'm on download mode, windows fails to install driver as it's an "unknown device". Is there a way to install those drivers manually?
Hello,
Un-install Kies, reboot system, reinstall kies.
Still not work. After reboot and reinstalling Kies my phone was recognized, but in download mode there is still nothing.
If windows has USB drivers then download mode works .
Is USB debugging turned off .
Reboot phone
Enter download mode follow instructions on download mode screen .
Open Odin select files to flash
Connect Samsung USB cable to mainboard port .
Hit start on Odin .
jje
USB debugging is off.
But as windows don't recognize the device, Odin can't detect it in download mode.
It's really weird

Ok, I manage to get this working.
I did this:
-I have unplugged all the USB on my motherboard, I've uninstalled all the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" (to acces type devmgmt.msc in windows start menu)
-Turn off the PC and unplugged the power supply. Waiting like 3 minutes.
-Replug the power supply and boot.
-Replug all my USB, windows reinstalling everything.
-Plug my phone in download mode and windows finally installed the drivers and Odin detect it !
So if someone have a unknown device issue with a code 43, please try this.
Thanks for your time and answers.
Disabling the "unknown device" and then disconnecting and reconnecting my phone worked for me.
Run Kies as Administrator, Install Drivers
This is what worked for me. Kies said the Drivers were installed without Administrator but nothing worked

Install Samsung Kies to be able your PC to detect your phone via Odin
also check the debugging mode in the developer options

I have uninstalled the older Kies, re installed the latest.
I have installed the lastest odin.
Have tried to link up with and without debugging, odin still does not see phone when in recovery mode.
Only time odin see the phone when phone is in normal mode.
Starting to get annoyed now lol, i cant cut my sim to fit phone, untill this is done
I cant see my s2 on odin either, what am i doing wrong ????
1. Reboot PC
2. Ensure KIES is not running and kill any KIES processes in PC task manager.
3. Download mode
4. Connect USB directly to PC port (no hub)
5. Wait for any drivers to instal or load on PC
6. Start Odin in administrator mode
If still no good;
a) Different USB cable
b) Different PC USB port and wait for drivers
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Thanks . Seems that I had been pressing volume up not down.
I have another question . I used chainfire Rom to debrand the phone but keis does not recognize . How can I solve this . Could it be because the phone is rooted ?
i am having this problem at the mo, I have tried all of the above, apart from a different pc.
oden worked fine with my galaxy s2
is there any more updates on how to sort this out please?
thanks
ian
I know this is a 7 day old thread, but I feel for you having been in the same situation. Firstly, have you installed the Android SDK? If not then I advise you to do so. Do a search on how to install the SDK. There maybe smaller downloads available with a package of the binaries you need to do some testing i.e. adb. The instructions will elaborate about how to set up your Environment settings in Windows. Essentially ADB needs to be called from within any part of your Windows system....or else you will have to cd to its location each and every time you want to do something like this. So once you have done that, open command prompt and type adb and see what comes up? If it says bad command or file name it means your environment settings for the ASK are incorrect, if it displays the adb help text in command prompt you are ready to proceed.
When you plug your device in (not in DL or recovery modes) is it detected by the PC? If so then your drivers are probably fine. If not then it maybe 1 of 2 things? 1 the device is detected but the MTP drivers have not been loaded or 2. No detection what so ever and all drivers need to be installed.
To determine how to proceed you will need to do a bit of investigating.
Note the USB drivers are included as part of the Android SDK.
Check in Device manager inside of Windows to see if anything is detected when you plug it in. If so but it has a yellow exclamation ! then it would indicate you need to update your drivers (but not always?). From here you can test to see if the phone is detected and you only need MTP drivers.
If not then I would suggest uninstalling Keis all together and downloading and installing the Samsung USB drivers separately. Install the drivers. Plug in the phone. If it is not detected straight away, then reboot the PC then plug the phone into a different USB port. From here you can determine how to proceed by using adb.
plug your phone in via USB and open command prompt and type this: adb devices
You should see 1 of 2 things.
1) The words "list of devices attached" followed by a 16 digit long ID number a gap and the word "device"
2) just the words "list of devices attached" and then blank and nothing else?
If a device ID is returned then you can proceed with the following. Otherwise you need to do some additional trouble shooting
Proceed here:
Once it is detected by Windows and shows up in Explorer then unplug the phone and go into settings and developer options and check enable USB debugging. Once you have done this it should allow your device to be seen in DL and recovery modes.
Troubleshoot: If not detected try the following:
1) Reboot the PC and plug into a new USB port that you have not previously plugged into.
2) Try disabling USB debugging plugging the device in and then unplugging it and reenabling USB debugging
3) From the status bar try switching modes between MTP and PTP modes. Wait a good minute or so between to allow Windows to detect the driver change. Tip a good indication is your notification tray Icon with green USB disk with a magnifying glass swirling around....Note if you cannot see this at all you probably should drag it into the notification panel so that you CAN!
4) Open up device manager again and ensure no yellow exclamation marks !
Once all this is right and you can get List of devices attached followed by an ID number then you can for sure be able to detect your device from Odin. Make sure you are running Odin 3.04, run it as admin (not necessary but have heard that it helps?)
Good luck
James

You can try with minimal/no drivers i.e. uninstall kies if you have it and delete the drivers you might have installed on your own-it sounds counter productive but it has worked for me a few times.
You can also try to either install kies or the drivers separately.
Try the forum for your own phone, the people there might know better about this problem.
Also what OS are you on?

[Q] PC Recognizes Tab Only in Download Mode

After an extensive search of XDA and other forums - I am wondering if anyone has suggestions for a situation in which my PCs (one that is Win7Ultimate and one that is Win8Pro) will only recognize my recently acquired, used Galaxy Tab 7510 when the Tab is placed in "download" or ODIN mode.
Thankfully, I can install CWM recovery and flash other ROMS because the PC's recognize the Tab 7510 when I place it in "Download" mode and use ODIN to flash.
Thankfully, I can use apps like WiFi File Transfer to successfully move files between my PCs and my Tab 7510.
However, I'm completely befuddled about why - when I connect the Tab 7510 to the PC in ordinary operating mode - there is no recognition of a USB connected device at all. Nothing shows up in the Control Panel's Device Manager, nothing shows up in the Windows USB Taskbar notification - from the perspective of the Windows machines there is nothing attached to the PC. I've tried all the tips I've seen written about on this and other forums (uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, trying other USB ports, trying other cables. making sure MTP is checked in settings, making sure USB debugging is/is not checked in settings). None of these has changed the outcome. My PC does not recognize (not at all) the Tab 7510.
But, as soon as I go into "Download" mode on the Tab 7510 - using exactly the same cable plugged into exactly the same USB port - the Tab is recognized and I've flashed three different ROMS (trying different versions of Jelly Bean) and flashed CWM three times and flashed stock ROM twice via the "Download" mode using ODIN on the PC.
Thus, I know that a connection can exist between my PC and Tab 7510 and that the cable and USB ports do work - just not when I'm out of "Download" mode.
Any thoughts or ideas on what the disconnect may be?
Do You have Kies installed to Your computer, earlier on I had the same kind of problem and uninstalled Kies totally, also every
registery traces, and the problem was gone.

Samsung A50 SM-505FN Strange problem with port type usb-c

Hello,
I have a problem that the phone is not detected by windows, the drivers on the computer are installed and have been reinstalled several times. The only exception when the phone is detected is in download mode. In addition, I can add that once in several dozen connections, the computer finally detects it.
I have tried various original samsung cables and it does not change anything. I have android 11, and as you know, samsung has changed the way to enter recovery, requiring a cable to be connected to the computer. I have tried all the combinations to enter recovery mode and download mode.
When I was able to install TWRP, booting in recovery mode was normally detected by the computer. I have debugging options enabled. Anyone be able to help?

Yeah, that's strange.
Does adb recognize your device?
If yes, you can boot into download and/or recovery mode by using adb.
If not, try to connect your phone to another computer. Just to check, if it's an issue on the phone or the PC.
