I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with the DSC rom. I am on a clean installed patched to .72. I notice that I cannot do a full restore from a backup made using the Dell Backup/Restore app. I also notice that you cannot make a new backup - it crashes with an 'internal error' - whatever that is!
I find the app useful for restoring SMS's and phone settings - especially when setting up a new rom. Any pointers would be appreciated.
I am also finding the battery life on DSC VERY poor - less that 6 hours! I may have to blow the install away and start again! I am pretty careful with these things, so SteakMod reset, clear dalvik, fix perms etc, then as soon as new update.zip applied - reboot and factory reset.
I have had a couple if SOD's too. I also found SPB 3d shell seemed to cause some issues, so now I'm on GO Launcher.
Sent from my Dell Streak running DSC .72
Battery calibration after each update
Does anyone know if this issue is fixed in DSC .73?
Broken Dell Back Up
Broken Dell Back Up here also. Running 0.72.

I have always used ROM Manager to do everything, but seeing that might not be the best way to do things..I have been having some other problems with restoring, and talked about it on another forum, but can't post the link here yet.
So, my nightlys said it is time to upgrade, so I am going to completely back everything up with TB, and fire it all up to dropbox. All of my system settings are 100% the way I want them... I also clicked the beta migration option in the preferences, hoping that would help me.
Step 1 - Backup all user apps + system Data
Step 2 - Sync to Dropbox
Step 3 - Boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery, and do everything manually, not through ROM Manager
Step 4 - Clear cache and Dalvik
Step 5 - Run zip from SD Card
This time, it seemed like everything went as planned. When I started the phone back up, all the apps were in the same spot, and wallpaper was the same. Although, the first time, when the screen timed out, I couldn't turn it back on. Pulled the battery, and all is working fine now.
Step 6- went into TB and did a batch restore of all apps and data, but only clicked the green items. From reading somewhere else, it is only wise to do the green items, not the red, so that is what I did. Then reboot for all to take effect.
This is where I am confused. None of my data is restored. For example, I use K-9 Mail, and the settings aren't restored by the batch. But, if I go to that app, and hit the restore data, then it restores it fine. So, for me to do all my apps, the batch function isn't working, I have to go through and do 15-20 apps manually.
So, what am I doing wrong here? Why isn't the batch operation working properly for me?
Edit - Something else I noticed that didn't restore properly was any of my ring tones. Not a huge deal, but I thought might be worth mentioning in this dilemma.
So I assume you are on CM7 as you refer to nightlies.
You say that you wipe cache/dalvick cache and install. Then when you reboot all your apps are in the right place?
Then why on earth would you want restore your apps on top of the existing apps with TB? Maybe that is causing the problem. AFAIK upgrading with a nightly shouldn't touch your installed apps.
Did you check the app settings before restoring with TB?
As for the ringtones, I always had that problem when using CM7, just got used to fixing them after installing each nightly.
Hope this helps.
What version of TB are you using? I was having a similar problem doing restores on v3.9.0.1 and was having problems doing batch recovery with my SGS2. The status bar would come up but wouldn't successfully finish. I then upgraded to 4.0.0.0 and everything seems to work.. might give that a try if you're using an older version.

Yes, sorry, I am running CM7, but using the nighties.
As far as the apps, that's why I think I am doing something wrong. Last time was the first time everything was there, every other update, it was like I was starting off with a new phone. No app, no data, nothing. A brand new fresh start.
I will try it again in a few minutes and hope for the best..
Thanks for helping out with this one..

I am currently using the Pro, 4.0.2. It just seems that I have to refresh all the data for each app by themselves, but all at once won't work.
Upgrading my nightly now, so keeping my fingers crossed that it will work.
Hello Community,!
I have been using CM since the nighties unitl the early 30's before Kernel got hacked I have stopped using CM around that time and switch back to near stock rom (TSM Resurrection) due to force close on every single applications. Now that CM is official, I hope the problem is gone but it is still there. I can use the phone for couple hours and then force close everywhere.
I have tried the following with that I can find on the forums:
1. Fix Permissions.
2. Fix Permissions and then reflashing CM.
3. Wipe data and reflashing.
4. Went back to stock (with atlas and all that) and then back to CM.
5. Rebooting/pulling battery out does not fix it either.
I read that it would be running out of memory causing it, but closing apps did not help.
Could it be rogue app(s) causing it or something entirely different?
Thank You!

just went thru this the other night with another member...try going back to dl09 and reformat your sd card. worked for him
I have not tried in addition to reformatting my sd card whild doing the whole DL09 restoring. I will give that a go.
It would probably also be a good idea to redownload the apps fresh from the the market instead restoring them from titanium backup?

with tibu just make sure to restore app only w/ out data. Should be no different than redownloading the app from market.
Your solution seems to work so far, I did however redownload fresh copies of apps from the market and just restore the data from titanium backup just incase any full restore are corrupted. I do get random phantom keys from time to time.

Hi,
I loaded Cognition 777 rc onto SGS2 i777 from the latest Cognition X2 beta 4 and got trapped in a com.android.phone force close-relaunch-force close loop. So I went back to beta 4, and loaded just the 11132011 kernel. That worked fine, so I tried loading C777 again. Same issue.
I am back on beta 4 with the 11132011 kernel and all's well. I have seen some discussion in other forums about dealing with com.android.phone FC. But I wonder if it is a c777-specific issue because I've not had the problem with previous Cognition revs.
Thoughts? Thank you very much!
Mike
I have that problem, too. I think we had to wipe it beforehand, but yeah, not sure...
Had the same issue when I attempted to flash from Serendipity 8 just to check it out. Problem went away after wiping from CWM then flashing.

Thanks to both of you. I wiped from CWM and then flashed - and it did go away. But it came back after I restored my apps and data. Tried restoring from CWM, then wiped again and restored with Titanium. I guess this latest rev conflicts with one my apps for some reason? I don't think I've got anything terribly exotic, but who knows?
I guess my options are: 1) load apps one at a time to isolate the problem child or 2) see if it goes away with the next rev ...
Don't restore all the data. Like, don't restore stuff like the phone application or some system data stuff related the phone. Call history and stuff is alright, but yeah, just go through it rather than just restoring everything.
What are you restoring? User apps are always good. System settings will cause problems. It sounds like you're restoring the call log or phone settings, use another app to backup sms and call log.
You two were right. I'd restored all apps and all data, including system data. That was the problem. It's all good now. Thanks for setting me straight.
Hi folks,
Since I upgraded (after a full wipe) I am unable to see my battery usage stats. The option is greyed out with unavailable written under it.
Can anyone please help.
Thanks
You didn't say what you upgraded to/from, but I'll assume you went *to* an ICS variant.
Same thing to try regardless, try flashing again over the top without a wipe. If that fails or causes FCs (possible), try a completely new flash from scratch with a wipe, etc. That means no restoring apps, particularly not system apps (never restore those). Do a clean install of everything. Backup your contacts/calendar to Google & restore from there when you've finished the clean install. So far as SMS/MMS/call logs go, there are apps on Play you can use to restore those from a Nandroid backup or similar, but do not restore the apks of these or you'll get FCs. Just the SMS/MMS/logs themselves.
Hey
Thanks for the reply. I went from check rom to the plain ics that was released earlier in the week to the new litening rom yesterday. I did a full wipe between every rom change and I only restored apps and not system data.
I have also fixed permissions too but nothing seems to resolve this issue.
Does anyone know where battery stats are kept? Which file?
Thanks
Actually, have you tried charging to 100%, wiping battery stats in CWRecovery (assuming you have it ?), pulling the battery for a minute then putting it back in & rebooting ?
That's not a bad idea! I will give that a go.
Thanks
And for fun try charge battery to 100%
I am rooted on stock touchwiz rom. I have done a few tweaks such as the swapping of internal memory for external, editing some CSC feature files to enable the sound on/off menu in camera. I've enabled the multi-view for all my apps and have added the wifi toggle my notification dropdown.
After not having an issue prior, I noticed the other day Instagram force closes every time I try to open it and does so immediately. I have deleted and re installed many times and several different ways, i.e with Titanium Backup. I haven't been able to find any real suggestions on how to fix it, so was thinking of doing a factory reset. I have backed up everything using Titatanium and plan on using that to restore my phone back to how it was.
I know I wont lose root after the factory reset, but will I lose all those other tweaks that I mentioned in the beginning? And will restoring from a Titanium backup just re-apply the problem that caused Instagram to force close thus putting me back to square one? Has anyone else had any trouble with Instagram crashing?
Thanks in advance guys!

I don't use Instagram so I can't comment on experiencing crashing from it. I can say that I've had some issues restoring apps with Titanium Backup. More often than not though, when I re-installed, the problem was solved. If you do a factory reset, you'll lose any adjustments you've made, except for adjustments that are included in the rom firmware itself.
Based off of the tweaks you listed, you may just want to check out Bean's Revision 4 (flashable using TWRP). Just make sure you've unlocked your bootloader. Bean's REV 4 has the option to automatically run all of the tweaks you added manually. It's actually a really nice, clean rom.

Hey thanks for the insight. I know I should probably unlock my bootloader. After coming from a Nexus, I got burned out from flashing ROMs and keeping up with the latest builds so with this phone I told myself I'm gonna try and keep it stock, which progressed to just rooting, then doing more and more tweaks. I'm a sucker for tinkering.
