I noticed everytime I swipe to check my notifications my brightness levels change forcing me to set them again. I don't like the auto brightness optiom so I wanted to know if there was an app that would lock the brightness levels
Not that I know of. There are widgets that let you toggle brightness options, but don't lock them there.
It sounds like your solution is to stop sliding your finger from left to right on the notification bar. That's what's changing your brightness. Just pull it straight down when you need it.
I may be misunderstanding the issue, but it sounds like the power saving setting under settings> sound and display. The option is at the bottom by tv out. Alternatively turn off auto brightness (assuming you haven't already.)
Edit: there's also a brightness setting in the browser (menu> more> brightness setting)

It seems that TouchWiz has a brightness toggle built into the notification bar. If you just barely pull down, then slide sideways, you change the brightness. Just pull down faster and/or straighter to avoid it.
Hi,
When I go to settings to try to change the level of brightness, this is greyed out and cannot be selected.
I have tried tuning the auto brightness on/off but nothing doing.
I can however adjust brightness by swiping the top bar (the one with the time, battery etc on it).
Any ideas? Am I just missing something blindingly obvious?

If you are running out of battery you can not adjust brightness.
charge the battery and check it again.
I have an issue with my CyanogenMod-7-11162011-NIGHTLY-GalaxyS2 lockscreen altering the brightness of the screen. When indoors it's not an issue but if I want to go outside and unlock it the screen is impossible to see due to it being dimmed.
I'm using the in-built lock screen. I have auto brightness turned off in CyanogenMod's settings and in the main display settings page.
Using an app called Setting Profiles I have tried to set a screen on event to turn up the brightness to 50%. It works only after I enter my PIN on the lock screen and it is unlocked. Up to that point it stays dimmed. Before it would stay dimmed even after unlocking even though the brightness bar said it was at 50%.
Are there any other settings I'm missing that control the brightness?
Is there a way to show the current display brightness set by Android's "auto" brightness?
I'd like to analyze sometimes in what level it's being set by the light sensor so I could consider controlling manually.
Sometimes it's just too high for the ambient, and could be using less battery.
I tried some apps on Google Play, like Brightness Motion, that show current screen brightness on widget or status bar but when in auto mode they'll only display "auto" instead of the percentage.

Have you tried this one? And here's another one.
Let us know if you find something that works.

Hi guys,
How do I adjust the screen brightness upon screen on when using wave control app? The screen is on but the light is not. So the screen is very dim for checking for any notifications on the status bar.
Thanks!!!
There is no 'light' behind the screen, that isn't how these work. The screen brightness is simply too low to read.
Disable the app and turn it up, simple.
If you don't like how it works in the app then contact the app maker and tell them.
Thank you!!!
