Hello I have a samsung galaxy i777. I rooted my phone and used Entropy's DD_12212011.zip kernel which i grabbed from this thread . I was wondering if Im okay to flash any rom on my phone now without losing my wi-fi because I have gingerbread 2.3.6 with UUKK6 and my kernal version shows as 2.6.35.7 Please let me know if im okay to start flashing or if I should install a different kernal. Thank you so much! PS my phone is AT&T Brand
Correction I used entropy's kernel to fix my wi-fi after I rooted my phone using these steps 1. Download GalaxyS2ATTRootZedomax.zip and run odin3v1.85.exe
2. Click PDA and choose "SGH-I777-ATTGalaxyS2RootStockZedomaxKernel.tar" and hit start. Wait for phone to restart.
3. You are now rooted but wifi will not work because of zedomax kernel.
Head over to the stickies. You can flash any ROM that is available for YOUR model phone (i777). Please read until you understand what you are doing. There is more than enough info here to set your phone up as beastly as you want.
I suggest flashing a different kernel. Use Entropys DD.
Most of the ROMs available are 2.3.6 anyway

hello all,
Before I being, i searched a bit in this forum and in web. But the questions i have still are not answered.
I on KE2 stock ROM. i have an unbranded SGSII. I have rooted using steps mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
I want to install any of the custom Roms or the newer ROMS mainly because the battery usage sucks. with some hour music and calls battery get drained easily.
I dont mind updating to latest stock ROM also as long as it solves the problem.
Kies dose not offer me an upgrade and its also grayed out for some reason
Here is my SGSII specs
Code:
Product Code: GT-I9100LKADBT (From RegEdit)
PDA: I9100XWKE2
Phone: I9100XXKDJ
CSC: I9100OXXKE2
Baseband: I9100XXKDJ
If I have some problem, I want to revert back to Stock rom before giving it to Samsung. I have also ordered a USB Jig. It should be on the way now. So i can reset the counter as well.
Before flashing, I want to know what all i should do. Is it just fine If i flash the firmware file? Also in Samfirmware i see something called pit files.
can anyone help me in flashing the correct rom?
thank you
All Custom ROM's give detailed installation instructions in the first couple of posts.
For what it's worth, having tried a number of different ROM's, VillainRom 1.4 has the best battery for me. 2 days with moderate use.
+ Villian rom but read and understand the instructions before you start .
jje
Cognition S2 is a good rom, full instructions for flashing.
If you look in the android development section, theres also a thread with all stock firmwares, kernals and tutorials for flashing
thank you all.
I was wondering about how to revert back in case of some problem. Also do I need to take care something about the baseband etc?
I am kind of new so thats what makes me tensed! I dont want to screw up the mobile.
Don't worry, once you have USB jib, you can reset Odin flash counter and this is a safe way to rescue you in case of brick.
In terms of baseband, ke4 or kf2 are the best ones. Kf2 kernel + kf2 base band is a good combination. You can try many ones and choose by yourself.
On xda, there are all stock firmware to rollback if needed.
Take a look at the stock rom and branded roms post in Dev section find your phone and download a copy of the rom.
That can be flashed back via Odin to original state wiping any root and stock roms .

How about ROM Manager ? i read that It can install ROMS over air
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-koushikdutta-rommanager-nptD.aspx
Don't use that as far as know. My kernel wasn't supported and it took me days before my recovery mode was working as I wanted. Maybe it works with other kernels, but with my bad experience thus far I don't install that again.

Thanks. Then i will not
Installing rom manager is not an issue... Very few custom rom are compatible with this. Afaik Cognition rom is one of them.

You think I can install ROMS with this? no more Odin?
No this is a little bit more complicated. You need a rom compatible with this like cognition seemed to add. The main idea is to have a rom compatible with rom manager and this will allow you to change to another rom compatible with this. Unfortunately, there are not so many custom rom... Perhaps sicopat's one?
I justed wanted to say that rom manager is not dangerous to install and even to launch.
OK Thank you,
But I am still confused If i need to update the modem etc. Let me do some more search
You can upgrade modem version by Odin flash mode separately to the rest.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950
Just download a modem.bin file or gets it from a complete firmware by unzip.
Put modem.bin into phone area of Odin and start accordingly of normal flash processing.
Thanks bgn9000
MY whole worry is whether to update modem or not. I dont want to mess with my phone as i think there is no downgrade.
Looks like I have to invest more time in understanding this flashing
Hello Everyone,
I am not new to android as I have had multiple android devices, however I purchased a SGS II from a friend and he rooted it. However, he does not remember what software he used to root it. So I used the one click method and it said it unrooted it no problem, however superuser and CWM is still installed and JD plus says it has root access. The kernel is XXKG3 and I installed and used it no problem. However, again when I go to CWM under current kernel: unknown. I tried everything I can think of, searched these forums the best I can and I still need help. Can anyone help me? If so, greatly appreciated.
Thank you for all your time
Have you tried flashing another kernel like siyah?
How will using that kernel help? Just out of curosity, I dont know too much
You have not searched properly. All you had to do was use the search button use a few keywords and boom you have the results. But anyway here i go.
To root go into Chainfires thread that is in the original development and look for cf-root kernels. Flash that through odin and it gives you root and cwm recovery and manager. Once you have done that it basically roots your phone. Now if you want to unroot all you have to do is flash official firmware from Intratechs thread again in original development section and your phone will be unrooted..Guides on how to do that are in both threads and at the first page. Now this is were you come in
Read read read...read the information given in those threads and you should understand more and you should be fine. good luck
I did do my research, I must have missed them. I will be trying this tomorrow, thank you!!!
Just flash a stock rom and then flash cf-root kernel mate..

I don't understand ANYTHING about androids but i followed a video tutorial on how to root it and it worked. So now, i have a 4.0.1 yajuux build Gnex (gsm) that is rooted and i got ClockWork Recovery on it with rom manager. I want to get the Apex 1.0.2 Rom on my phone except it says i need a XXKK6 radio. How do i flash that radio? also, I want the franco kernel on it after so how would i flash that? Please explain it like you would explain to a 10 year old so that I fully understand the process.

Buy a phone in the XDA phone list, check its forum sections (General, Q&A and Development) for some kind of sticky guides, follow the guides.

First you need to go to the section for your phone. Start by read the stickies and any pertinent information on radios, kernels, and ROMs. Then find the rom, kernel, or radio you want and read it. Start with the OP and then keep reading. Whatever questions you may have will probably have already been answered. If not, then is the time to ask questions in the appropriate Q& A thread. Good luck and enjoy your phone!

This is the best thing to do if you really want to "learn" about android phones, I read almost every thread for my phone for about 3 months before I even rooted my phone. By that time I could root my phone successfully and fix any problems myself along the way.

I recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S IISGH-I777 from stock using Zedomax kernel. Now wireless won't enable. The last thing I did was back it up. Everything else appears to work.

Flash to Entropys kernel and that will clear it up...Zedomax's stuff isn't worth your time, it hasn't been supported in forever and is very unstable
You can find the files in this thread:

If you are running a UCKK6 build stay at 12/8 build kernel, KH7 or a I900 GB port can use the newer kernels
Not sure what I can do

I followed those instructions. First 12/8 is not longer available, or at least I couldn't find it anywhere under that thread. To make the long story short, I'm now sitting on Kernel version 2.6.35.7, Baseband I777UCKH7.
I used the 3/7 kernel from Entropy and flashed it with Mobile Odin Lite.
Wifi will still not stay on.
I do have clockwork recovery, (even Rom Manager Premium but I know not to use it) and haven't done anything with it.
Are there radio or modem drivers I need to flash or something?
Don't use ROM manager on this phone. It will break it.
As far as the main issue is concerned. You could always attempt a return to stock. There's forum topics with more detail in the adroid developement section.

The problem is 2.3.6 stock wifi gets broken when rooted. If you just wanted to root I believe you need to flash the 2.3.4 return to stock rooted file system package in the general sticky. If you don't want to stay stock just flash your new rom. I reccomend aokp 4.0.4 from the dev thread. Its bad ass. Either way your wifi will return once you flash the new rom. Flash it using cwm. Just read the return to stock thread all the info about the 2.3.6 wifi break is in there.

I've heard talk that you have to do a factory data wipe/reset in CWM after flashing a rooted kernel that includes CWM. Don't know why but it worked for me. You loose your stuff but you retain root and you get to use your wifi.
When that happened to me I wiped data, system, cache etc., then I flashed a rom from clockwork. That solved it for me.

Hello.
I just rooted my ATT GS2 I777 phone using a method over at galaxys2root.com. i then installed the latest kernel 3.5.1 Sayah WITHOUT mic swap. Can someone please tell me the difference between WITH and WITHOUT mic swap and what it is exactly?
I'm looking for a rom to install now and seem to be having issues finding one that isn't based off the 9100 phone even though they are listed in the I777 forums. I would like to install Serendipity9 or Galaxy Nexus ROMs but not sure if I needed the 3.5.1 WITH mic swap rom or not.
Please help.
Thanks.
With Without mike swap is for I777 stock roms and custom roms made from I777 stock as base, ie Semi. Mike swap is for roms made from I9100 base, or aosp roms.
It doesn't really matter though, because when you install a custom rom, it will also install the kernel that comes with the rom. If it doesn't come with your preferred kernel, then you can flash the kernel or your choice after you flash the rom of your choice.
I think you meant to say for your first word is "Without", correct?
I'm going to try to install Serendipity9 even though I can't find anything about the change log to see what kernel is included.

Yes. Fixed it, lol.
The kernel is CherryPicker. See here. I think it's been a while since the rom has been updated. I think Mikey is working on something else now.
I did get the Serendipity 9.4 installed and then ran Siyah 3.5.1 Kernel (with mic swap) and so far everything seems to be working ok.
Thank you for your help.
I would flash something else asap.. Here's a hint, anything it our development section!

Not sure what you are talking about.
I rooted my phone using their method (odin and siyah kernel). yes now my phone boots saying I9100 and the yellow triangle.
I then Installed Serendipity 9.4 Rom from their official site.
I then Installed Siyah Kernel 3.5.1 from here.
I didn't want to brick my phone by rooting and there are a lot of methods to do so and a lot of old information out on the forums.
What is wrong with what I did?
I plan on going to Jellybean and the latest siyah when the time comes when more stable.
I did see this post over here:

I was thinking about doing the below and following the instructions, but no description was there for what this actually did and I'm new to all this.
Odin3 One-click Downloader I-777 UCKH7 Stock + Root No Bootloaders
I would appreciate it if you can point me in the right direction on how to properly put the phone back and then how to properly root it again.
Well basically this site had a lot of great info and awesome devs. But other sites take their stuff, post links to download the roms and never give proper credit. As far as what yer asking, are u asking how to return to stock? If so, just Google XDA i777 download repository. Here's a link to it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20229527&postcount=46 I would go with the stock rooted 2.3.4 without boot loaders. Flash it with Odin. Or mobile Odin pro.

I'm asking (since they are telling me to get this **** off my phone) how to get it properly rooted and then go from there.
So if I just run Odin3 One-click Downloader I-777 UCKH7 Stock + Root No Bootloaders, that will properly put my phone back to factory + being rooted. Correct?
The only issue I have with my phone is it boots with an I9100 screen instead of the I777 screen. If I run the above with that properly show the I777 screen or not?
I'm guessing I have some bootloader on my phone since it is showing the I9100 screen??? That is why you guys are telling me to get that off there???

There's nothing wrong with what you did. You rooted your phone and installed a custom firmware without causing any problems. If you are satisfied with your phone as it is, do not flash back to stock just because of some of the posts here.
There are problems with GalaxyS2Root.com. Some of the files that are available there cause people to brick their phones, or have other problems. When the name comes up, people here react to it. That accounts for some of the posts here. But in your case, since you had no problems, and your custom flash went ok as well, not to worry.
Because you flashed a custom kernel using Odin when you rooted with the GalaxyS2Root method, you incremented the flash counter, which also causes the I9100 boot screen with the yellow warning triangle. That can be cleared with a USB jig, or with the application Triangle Away by codeworx which can be used only on ICS or above.

You did not flash I9100 bootloaders. Samsung was lazy, when they made the firmware for I777 they didn't update that image, so it still says I9100.
Oh, and I would suggest that you avoid GalaxyS2Root.com in the future for your own peace of mind.
Creepy,
Thanks again. I did send you a PM as well.
I don't know what a bootloader is and thought maybe the cause of the I9100 screen is due to a bootloader which may cause problems or something for future installs of Kernels and ROMs.
Since my phone is already rooted I plan to just continue to use this site for ROMs and Kernels. I'm still learning.

Yeah absolutely man! Sorry I was confused about your question. Thought u wanted to return to stock just to start over fresh. Didn't mean to confuse u or try to cause you any additional work. If it isn't broke, like creepy said, no need to do anything. good luck!

I would start over fresh if needed but it looks like I'm ok anyway. I'll move to Siyah 4.1.1( or later) and Jellybean at a later time when more stable I guess.
