The first think that I would try is a full recovery rom. If you have a U.S. player 4.0 and you flashed a U.S. pit file for the 4.0 your partitions should be fine but you may be missing the data that you didn't flash back to the rom, such as bootloaders. As far as I know their is no recovery rom for the U.S. 4.0 but I believe klin1344 may have the necessary files.
Good luck...

I still have yet to unbrick my device. cannot think of anything else to try. help please someone. this is how i brick it. i flashed klins rom, it ran fine. then i went back to wipe cache and dalvik, then it went to bootlooping. did a backup at that point. then went on to try to get it out of boot loop with the pit file and stock rom. gave me a bunch of errors so i flased steves and now it boots straight to CWM.

I am having the exact same issue. I have tried every possible combination of files and settings available from this site in Odin with resetting and clearing in CWM. Nothing fixes the problem. I flash back to stock and it goes right to recovery as well. No solution.

When you flash stock does it give you a bunch of errors? Or is does it just give you the stock recovery with no errors?

Im coming from 2.3.2 - XWJV1 [Gingerbread on Vibrant], after ODIN, and when i wanted to flash the latest Bionix i got an error
E: Can't symlink /system/bin/su

symlink /system/xbin/su SYSTEM.bin/su
Installation Aborted.
every time i get this, i have to do another ODIN because it just does a loop in the android system recovery and will not get out, so i had to ODIN 3 times.
now when i try to flash a ROM it just keeps replacing stock recovery with clockwork mod recovery, i do the usual steps to install a ROM and it just does a loop. i tried different clockwork flash versions and either it wont let me install the older ones or the only 2 versions that work have loop problems.
HOW DO I FIX THIS, IM SO STRESSED OUT, THIS IS UNNECESSARY!
after doing install rom from sd option, i was able to get out of the loop but i got
E: Can't symlink /system/bin/su
E: Failure at line 16:
symlink /system/xbin/su SYSTEM.bin/su
Installation Aborted.
i still cant flash anything and i already tried eugenes files.
got into clockwork but when i put install files from sd card > choose from sd then it when i choose update.zip it just goes back to the android system recovery.
then i put reinstall files from the android system recovery and it just sends me back to clockwork recovery...
Try a diff. tar for when you Odin, you may have a corrupt file. Have you try Eugen JK2 tar file, prerooted?
Are you clicking reinstall packages?
Are you going through clockwork or rom manager?
Did you install the root update zip to reroot?

Odin back to JFD (make sure to check repartition) then boot and let it go through loading, then root the phone, Then load CWM, then load your new rom and load from recovery NOT CWM, you will have no problems.

Ok I just went through this less than a month ago with my captivate. I have a twenty page topic on this EXACT issue. I had all the major devs pming me and doing everything under the sun for probably a total of thirty hours. Result - NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO FIX THIS. This issue is not specific to our phones, there have been cases of this on almost every android phone. Your gonna get people telling you to do all this elementary trouble shooting...the problem is far too deep dont waste your time. You can flash back to stock with every tar and pit file this side of samsung...not gonna work. SOMETHING is not getting wiped. Save yourself the time and sell the phone to someone who will not use custom roms.
Also no rm/wipe command through abd is gonna help either! Sorry just telling you from someone who experienced this hell. Also every thread in existence on the internet on this subject has died out without an answer. If you read for enough hours you will find out the hard way! Good luck my friend!

Are you able to re install the original rom? I and many others with this issue had that unique problem of being able to install ONLY the rom that was running before everything went to hell. There lies the key I believe to all of this. What makes only one work.

LMAO!!! I understand that your frustrated but there is no need to blame other members. There is always a risk flashing a rom. If you are not willing to accept the risk then you shouldn't be flashing roms at all. Whitehawkx has helped many people in the vibrant community and its not his fault if YOU decide to flash his rom and don't know what your doing. You wont get much help around here with that attitude. I flashed my phone with the works. Installed CWM, overclock kernel, and the Saurom rom that's in the Dev's section.
I needed to take it back to stock, so I flashed my phone with the Stock boot from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504999 and then I flashed with the stock recovery. I went to install the stock ODIN from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330 and it wouldn't take. It just locked.
I decided to try it again, and it locked again. Its hanging up when it is writing to the NAND. I tried flashing the boot again, and its hanging as well. I JUST got the phone, and I am most likely going to take it back and get an AT&T swap. Anyone have any thoughts on what I can try?
I am not new to flashing phones and working with them, but I can't develop them. My Captivate has been to hell and back, and its still kicking strong. I pulled the SIM card and threw it on there, which currently has ICS on it and is overclocked.
I'm just curious if there's anything I can try before I send it back to AT&T? It has the counters triggered (ironically when I attempted to take it back to stock).
Not sure about the note but on my galaxy s2. To get back to stock I just flashed one .tar file not everything you listed.

Yep, I did a full wipe both before flashing and when recovery worked.
Also I wanted to note, the NAND can't be written on the boot side from what I can see. I can flash and get into CWM, but that's about it.
I am locking up when flashing the single TAR file that's available for the Note. If I can get the boot NAND to write, I am sure I can finally flash with the stock .tar

I will give that a try. If that doesn't work, I'll see if I can take it back to AT&T.
I can use ADB through CWM but I have no idea what the command is to install the boot.img and I cannot seem to be able to access the SD card at the moment. CWM won't mount it.
Pretty sure that bug has not been fixed

I've dd'd several radios over adb while in cwm on my Note.
So, I somehow managed to brick my phone using factory reset on CM9, and subsequently flashed back a stock firmware with Heimdall. Version was LPO (Nordic). However, something went wrong, as no matter what I did (several resets, dalvik wipes with cwm, permissions), the status bar would not appear. Not good for usability.
When flashing, I skipped the modem, boot.bin, the .sbl file and param.lfs. Just to be safe.
I'm currently back on CM9 nightly. Works perfectly.
I'd like to flash a clean stock ROM so I can take a nandroid backup of it (one without cf-root, now that I know how to get temporary cwm); is there something obvious I did wrong? Could I for example format /system prior to flashing to remove any trace of CM9. Would that even help? I'm on Linux, so I can't use Odin or Kies.

I'd thought that a factory reset is a full wipe, but I guess I was mistaken. I'll Google a bit more about it and perhaps then try formatting the system partition as well later today.

Still not working
Hm. So I tried flashing stock again after formatting /system (LPG version this time, since LPO was pulled by Samsung) and now my phone is stuck in the "S" screen. (A bootloop, I guess? I'm not sure of the terminology). I can get into stock recovery and even CWM (it's on the external SD) but no amount of factory resets or dalvik wipes do anything. Should I have wiped something else as well?
Flashing seemingly went successfully, but this time the stock rom won't even boot :/ What could cause that? I skipped the bootloaders and modem & params.lfs again but those should be safe to leave out, right? (I've never touched them when flashing, only kernels and the filesystem images)
Update: Was able to install LPO, but the glitch is still present, even after reformatting /system.

I tried LPQ (I wanted Nordic) and it works. Can't update OTA though. I guess it's the newest version that my operator has, then? BRB backing this one up...:good:
Status update: gained access to Odin and successfully flashed LPG/NEE. Now on true stock firmware; no idea why Heimdall failed. Might be the firmware was corrupted.

Hey guys,
I decided to start my phone with a clean slate and un-root it via installing the stock firmware I9300TDUALF2_I9300TVAUALF2_VAU
I've done this before and it's never been a problem, but now my phone will not start up properly. It gets to the Samsung flashing logo in the boot animation and just stays there forever (literally).
I tried 2 (from sammobile & androidromupdate) other different Australian firmwares and still the same thing.
I've flashed CF-Root on the phone, booted up into recovery and installed a few different custom ROMs but the same problem occurs, it just stays put on the boot animation for eternity.
Normally I'm able to work out this sort of thing but I'm at a loss this time
Any ideas?
EDIT: Forgot to mention,
#1.) The startup sound plays during the boot animation if that makes a difference.
#2.) I've tried flashing it from 3 different PC's, with both Odin v1.8.5 and v.3.07
#3.) When I flashed Foxhounds ROM, The whole install ran through fine (Aroma) so I don't think this is a file integrity issue.
EDIT EDIT:
#1.) The phone feels warmer than usual (not hot, just warm, warmer than it normally is when idling) during the infinite boot animation
Hmm I was going to say flash different ROM via odin. Since you have done it already. Can you try flashing different and rooted rom. See how ya go. Make sure the rom you download match the md5. I always face such issues but re flashing helps. Download any other rom copy to external memory. Since you have access to recovery. Flash via recovery. Good luck.

I flashed this with Cyanogenmod 11 soon after I got it 2 months ago. Well times are tough and I have to sell it on eBay. I want to remove Cyanogenmod 11 and revert back to stock. I know the thread where the stock ROM and PIT files are (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192488) so thats half the battle there. Is it the same process as this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531850) or is there something else I need to do. Do I have to install GA APPS like you do with custom ROMs or is that not needed
This is all pretty new to me. I know how to flash custom ROMs and such but flashing the stock ROM seems tricky to me. Sorry if this has all been covered so many times that it makes you tired of seeing this, I just have to be sure I do this right and dont brick it (cant sell a paper weight on eBay for too much money lol).
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for all the hardwork that goes into making these ROMs as well
EDIT: Can I flash the stock ROM with the US Kernal, US PIT file and 2.3.5 gapps like I did with Cyanogenmod 11 or is that impossible?
Again sorry for the newbie question!

I think after flashing a factory firmware by Odin, the device will AUTOMATICALLY boot into stock recovery, where you can wipe data in the correct format. At least that's what it said in the guide I read, and also happens on my Player 4.0 for both Froyo and Gingerbread.

Well since you're getting mount errors, are you sure you flashed the correct PIT file? Mount errors are likely caused by a wrong pit file.
EDIT: I see you have pointed to a thread with correct PIT files. So I think you should flash the PIT file first, boot into download again and then flash the Stock ROM and Kernel. If it boot loops at the boot animation, boot into the stock recovery and wipe data.
