The other Ascend G600 thread was dedicated to the dual-sim model (U8950D) so I made this thread exclusively for the U8950-1. It's the single-sim model primarily sold in Europe and South Asia.
My questions:
Having obtained the bootloader unlock key from Huawei, how does one unlock and root the phone?
Will one be able to backup the original firmware that comes bundled with the phone and restore it on a whim, if required?
Are there any custom ROMs for this particualr model?
+1.
I think it's a great device to develop for.
Calling developers.
edit: i have found an application that claims to root the Huawei u8950-1 .
i can't afford to try it. Someone may try and inform us.
regards.
here's the website for downloading the rooting application http://www.srsroot.com/
and also check the supported devices page where Huawei u8950-1 is mentioned.

Agreed. Being a developer meself, I wouldn't mind looking into porting Jelly Bean to this device. Only the prospect of potentially bricking my phone in the process hinders me And the lack of time.
Well... Someone has to take the initiative. Breaking the ice.
Any developer can do it without the risk of bricking the device I'm sure. Unlike us.
let's hope and cross fingers.

Rooted my G600 (U8950-1) today
I followed this topic (downloaded files from this page also) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2081279
Maybe that post for U8950D but everything works perfectly for my U8950-1
Good stuff On a related note, do you know if rooting the phone voids the warranty? I've read conflicting reports on it online.
EDIT: Have you also installed ClockWorkMod?
for rooting without voiding warranty

is there any cyanogenmod or aokp or paranoid android for g600 series?
.
are g600 sources released till now?
sorry for bad english
None, unfortunately There's a Jelly Bean ROM ported from the G510 series and a MIUI ROM for the dual-sim model, but both have their share of issues.

Download Kingo Android Root onto your computer. Connect your phone in debug mode and let the program do the rest for you.
Best of all the program can also unroot your phone. ha ha

I have a Huawei Ascend II from U.S. Cellular, running Android 2.3.6. I've been trying to root it using various methods such as gingerbreak, framaroot, Z4root among many. None have worked. On a few other sites, I've read that 2.3.6 is unrootable, others have said that its the phone. Yet others have said that it is rootable, but don't say how. So, my question is, is there a way to root a Huawei Ascend II 2.3.6 from U.S. Cellular?
Hello, I gave Huawei Y600-U20 that brought me from Germany, now I am in Argentina and I have no 3G signal. Will changing the baseband work? Do any link where you can read about it? Or is there another solution? Clarify that the team in question has dual sim. The phone already has made the root. THNX!!!
Hi all, I've given a Huawei Ascend G600, it's sim locked, but I'm getting it unlocked today. My question is it's running on Android 4.0.4 firmware and when I try to update online it says no update available. I'm coming from a IOS background so have no idea what's the latest firmware for Android and if this phone will update to the latest firmware?
Also what can I use as a suite for this phone, I'm on a Mac so something like iTunes? I heard there's Kies but isn't it for Samsung phones?
If I could get this phone upgraded to latest or -close to latest- software I might use it, otherwise it's going into the charity box, I can't even install Periscope.
Cheers
Can anyone help please?
thanks
There's no update for this phone ....I used this for 2 yrs. Then upgraded to lg g3. ... Try rooting it and flash some roms
