I have 2.3.6 GingerMod #7 running with 2.3.6 webtop flashed. I have also applied the webtop2sd as well as the xfce4 mod. It was running perfectly fine for two days when I started webtop this morning--now I'm getting 2 (two) Mobile Views. I have rebooted my atrix and I'm still getting two instances of Mobile View.
Tried ps aux | grep mobile as well as ps aux | grep view with no success.
Has anyone have this problem? How do you get rid of the 2nd Mobile View?
Actually, I've noticed this as well. I think when you do the xfce mod or other things where you've replaced Metacity, gnome-settings-daemon, or other processes need by the stock webtop, then when you re-activate webtop after using (no reboots in between), then the startup scripts are being re-run.
My current setup is pretty much full xfce, but I still have webtop-panel running. In a clean start-up of webtop, without intervention my scripts will replace metacity with xfwm4, gnome-settings-daemon gets replaced by xfsettingsd, and a few other things.
Unfortunately, I've found that when webtop viewing stops for any reason (mainly by pulling the phone out of the dock) and restarting will cause all my xfce environment to go away, then try to restart. In the process, I get another aiw window, as well as another lxterminal (that's if webtop or the phone doesn't crash in the process). The only way that would happen is if the startup scripts are being re-run.
I've been meaning to trace the webtop startup to see what gets started when. There is no mention of "sfalv metacity" in the two startup scripts we all modify, so it must get started elsewhere explicitly...it probably wouldn't have "sfalv" if it was started indirectly by something else. Perhaps some modified scripts elsewhere can check to see if things are already running before restarting...heck, that's probably a good check for the two start-oshwt-* scripts.
Oh, and in the end, I just end up killing the new "aiw" and "sfalv aiw" processes that are created.
I fixed the problem. Instead of "xfdesktop" you have to put "xfdesktop4" and "xfce-panel"
I don't know why it would solve the problem of two or more multiple mobile views, but it worked for me.
If this helps you, please make sure you click on the thank button!
Mobile View has become inactive. It just sits in the center of the screen but does not do anything. I can click on the home, menu, search and back buttons but that's about it.
I'm going back to the original webtop ui, no more xfce for me at this time.
i wonder if it works better under 2.3.5?
I'm in the middle of removing all of xfce4 right now. I have found that the path of least resistance for webtop right now is to install gnome-panel and run it instead of awn (Ok, I guess you could modify awn to have the gnome menu, but I wanted multiple workspaces too, and couldn't see how to get awn to do that).
So change the original startup-oshwt-2.sh as follows:
#sfalv -i "awn-autostart"
sfalv -i "gnome-panel"
So comment out the first line listed above, add the second line after it and leave the rest of the file alone.
When the desktop comes up the very first time, you will probably have a gnome-panel covering the webtop-panel. You can simply right click and remove that panel.
From there you can then customize by running "gnome-appearance-properties". You will probably want to add that to the gnome menu because for some reason that isn't installed in the preferences menu by default.
You will also need to right click on the bottom panel and add the gnome main menu to the bar. I'll leave it to you to figure out how to move things around on the bar (hint: unlock). After that, customize as you like. You will probably want to break the default webtop-theme (search for that), but beware of using themes from synaptic willy-nilly. I just caused webtop to crash that way.
Note we didn't start a full gnome session here, just ran the gnome-panel. The basic webtop scripts also start gnome-settings-daemon and metacity, so this is probably the best it gets until we get around to figuring out the internals of webtop.
Oh, and as a bonus, I just removed my phone from the lapdock, did a few things with it then returned it to the lapdock. Webtop came up instantly without duplicate windows, everything working and in the same place I left it when I popped the phone out.
a possible fix
I solved this problem by going into terminal and writing this:
killall aiw
this will only kill one instance of mobile view. But when you restart the desktop, you will again have 2 mobile views and will have to repeat the command.

Your solution worked wonders, thank you.:good:
I'm on T-mobile and got an HTC One a couple weeks ago. It is running android version 4.1.2 with HTC Sense version 5.0.
Everything is great except for an inexplicable problem I have when typing on the keyboard (HTC Sense input). No swype, just typing.
Normally, if you type a word that isn't in the dictionary, it displays the word you actually typed on the "word bar" that pops up. It shows up on the leftmost side. If you tap the word, it will be added to the dictionary. To the right of that word is the word it thinks you meant to type. If you just press space, it will auto correct to that suggested word. So far so good, this all makes sense.
Now, I have an extremely annoying problem. Say I want to type the word "jellybean." I am very careful to press each letter exactly, and can see the letters that pop up above the individual keyboard letters as I am typing. All correct. However, rather than showing that I typed "jellybean" it shows "helkybean." It does this kind of thing with almost every word. Another example, I'll type "morning." The word that shows up is "nirbibg." This appears on the leftmost side of the suggested word bar, implying that this is what I actually typed, and just to the right of that (first suggested word) it shows "morning." In other words, the phone seems to think I typed "nirbibg" when I meant to type morning.
I am totally baffled as to why this happens. Even if the calibration is off, I am clearly pressing the right keys! The correct letters are shown in the little popup as I'm typing. Why, oh why in the world would this be happening?
Here are some more examples, first showing what I'm actually typing and what the phone seems to think I am typing. I am being very careful to push each letter exactly:
Hello, how are you doing?
Hekki, hiw are yoy diibg?
This keyboard is really frustrating me.
Tgis jeyboard us reakky frustratubg ne.
This makes absolutely no sense at all.
Tgus najds absikuteky no sebse at akk.
Clearly this is a practical joke of some kind.
Ckearkg this is oractucak jije if sine kind.
Riding the Saturn 5 rocket must have been quite an experience.
Ridibg tge Saturb 5 ricjet nust have beeb quute an exoeruebce.
Also, I will type a word like "of," pressing each letter correctly, watching the pop-up confirmations show the correct letters, and still it types "if."
I have bilingual prediction off, and the keyboard language is English. Swype is off, though it didn't seem to make any difference whether it was on or off. My dictionary contains the usual naughty words that everyone must add at some point, with no such gibberish. If I just type normally, the gibberish word auto corrects to the right word when I press space, but I'd like to know why it even shows up in the first place when I clearly typed the correct letters!
I am sure this is a simple fix but I am just totally baffled as to why this happens. Any ideas? For what it's worth, this only seems to happen when I type in landscape mode.
Did you try re-calibrating the keyboard? (Settings>Language and keyboard>HTC Sense Input>Advanced>Calibration tool) Even if you don't think it's the problem, it's worth a shot - it only takes a minute, and it does noticeably improve the accuracy, at least to me. I just tried a bunch of random sentences and I was able to type all of them properly on the first try.
Yep, I did. First I reset the calibration, same thing. Then I re-calibrated. Same thing.
When I am typing in portrait mode it seems to be fine. No such problems. Only in landscape mode does this happen, but the calibration appears to only work in portrait mode. If there's a way to do a landscape calibration, I haven't found it.
Make sure every thing is set to English US. Even under post spellling settings.

I am running arhd 8.0 ElementalX kernel had same issue under settings. Its due to the languages . turns out Italian Portuguese Spanish french were on and its auto correcting, just make sure English is the only one checked should resolve the issue.

Yep, everything is set to English. That was one of the first things I checked. This includes the post-spelling check.
I also notice know this seems to only happen in the Facebook app...when I use Gmail or SMS, everything is fine. Hm...
That is not such a huge problem then, but I still don't understand why the behavior would change in a different app. I assumed the keyboard interface was low-level enough that the apps would not affect how it works. Weird...

I don't have a fix, but I wanted to let you know you're not alone. When I try typing "autocorrect" in the Facebook app (no other app does this) I get "auticirrect".
But get this. It only happens when I hold the phone horizontally. Vertically, it types fine.
It does other odd things too, like the word suggestion bar will freeze, even though I can still type. While signing up for this account, it did it again and the Sense keyboard crashed and sent an error report. Hopefully a fix is coming.
This may be stating the obvious, but if this problem continues, there are lots of keyboards available you can try that won't have this problem. I'm pleasantly surprised by the stock Sense keyboard, but there are others that I like more.
Not Isolated
As far as I can tell this isn't an isolated incident, as I'm able to replicate the incident as well.
To replicate:
1. Open the facebook app on a stock HTC One
2. Hit the write status button
3. flip the phone to horizontal position.
4. type an "o".
5. type another letter. watch as the "o" changes to an "i".

Ok I had this problem to, I looked online for help and I found none, so this is what I did. I went to my settings then apps, then all apps and when down to HTC sense input. I disabled the HTC sense input, then I cleared the memory. I turned it back on after that and it worked! Try it out and let me know how it turns out
Facebook is the culprit, but may not be the only one

This worked for me, although it probably destroyed my personal dictionary as well. I'm still curious to know why it stored this specific data (that several people seem to share--I had the "auticirrect" problem as well) but seemingly only for facebook. Either it's a problem specifically with facebook, or facebook was using a different set of algos and files to autocorrect text input within the HTC keyboard's history. My suspicion is that this could happen with other apps as well if it could happen with Facebook, but I haven't run into any.
I don't know enough about the Android FS and what lengths apps are allowed to go to on unrooted devices, but I'd be interested to hear input from anyone that does.
I noticed when this happens to me , the language got changed. Just remove all languages except for English and you'll be fine.
It's mainly profanity that I have to make this damn thing learn.

Thank you! I got my One last week and this problem has been a PITA. Multiple google searches turned up nothing on it too. Don't know why I didn't think to check xda to begin with.
Same problem
I've had the exact same issue. cant for the life of me figure out the cause but interesting realization
The letters it replaces are the ones to the Left of the button, and only on the right side of the qwerty keyboard
For example, UIOP seems to replace letters with U < I < O < P. Im also getting J < K < L and B < N < M :/
Will try the fix suggested now but this is such a strange behavioral glitch...
Happening with my HTC one too. Sense my ass lol it's making no sense. I think what causes it is the stupid menu bar on the right which occupies exactly one key column worth of space. I don't use facebook so I don't know if that app has the soft menu bar on the right/bottom of the screen. The keyboard is offset visually but the autocorrect algorithm seems to assume the keyboard is laid out across the entire screen (ie even using the space occupied by the menu bar). Anyone care to check?
For what it's worth this problem should fix itself once we get the 4.2/4.3 update, when we can remap the menu bar to long pressing the home key.
Hello,
I have noticed that sometimes is becomes impossible to use the keyboard to type things.
For example if I try to type a comment on Facebook my keys become unresponsive and when they do work I would get duplicated words when I press the space key.
Also when browsing on amazon I would type something but it doesn't show on the screen.
While writing this message using the swipe function with Google keyboard the words are not showing immediately, there seems to be some kind of lag.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I am rooted, but not running anything else to change the performance of the phone.
I did freeze some apps
What could this be??
Yes, this is close related to the temporary dead touch spots in the general thread. Its most likely some kind of software bug.

I quite frequently notice the text I'm typing stops showing up on the screen in the browser (like what you described with amazon). A quick-fix for me is to zoom in or out or turn the screen sideways and back, that usually gets it going again.
I'm sure it's just a bug that will get worked out with future updates.
Hi,
This is my first time specifically posting a question as a Q&A style thread so I hope I'm doing this right.
I have been using the Redmi Note 2 for about a month now. Overall, it's been a great phone (especially considering the price). However, I've been experiencing a couple of issues and I am hoping that some of you may be able to help.
I have rooted the phone but have not installed a ROM/kernel.
I have been using Wakelock Detector to track my battery life. Of most significance is com.baidu.map.location (NetworkLocation). I have attached the two screenshots showing the frequency of how often it wakes up my device. I tried to greenify it but it wouldn't allow me - it says "Sorry, "NetworkLocation" is ingreenifiable". Does anyone have any idea for me?
I have also been trying to use Amplify as another means to try and improve battery life. As mentioned, my phone is rooted, and the app prompted me to install the Xposed app which I did. However, after installing the app, it wants me to install the framework but it does not allow me to. I have attached the screenshot of this too.
Nova Launcher - Sometimes when I open the app drawer, the resolution of the app launcher appears funny. To fix it, I normally just press back and go back into the app drawer and it goes back to normal. I have attached a screenshot of what this roughly looks like. This is not a big deal but can be a little annoying. Has anyone experienced this?
SD Maid - I used to use this app on my old Galaxy S3 i9305 to clear out storage space taken up by unnecessary stuff. This app no longer works on this phone. I have attached a screenshot of the issue that I am having.
I have downloaded Auto Call Recorder from the app store with the intention of having it automatically record my phone conversations. It does not work but I am unable to figure out why. I have checked the settings and I cannot identify any obvious setting that is incorrectly configured.
Flynx - I have been trying to use Flynx as it appears to be an incredibly useful app, but it seems something is not working correctly. In the screenshot that I have attached, where it says "Tap on the bubble to open it!" I am assuming there is a bubble that is supposed to appear for me to tap, but it does not appear.
APUS Launcher/Clean Master - finally and maybe most worryingly, I sometimes get 2 or 3 apps "pushed" to my device prompting me to install it. I can only remember 2 at the moment; APUS Launcher and Clean Master. Fortunately, I am asked to give the app permission for installation but it worries me because it has occurred a few times and I did not download it at all. I do not have a screenshot of this at the moment, but I will do it next time it occurs.
I have been told that my provider (Vaya in Australia) sends out a SMS for "automatic update" purposes. I only spotted this because I have noticed that I was charged for 2 separate international SMS on 2 occasions when I did not send them (to a UK number, +44 7786209730). I am not sure whether this one is a phone problem or something else.
I appreciate any of your assistance in advance and I am sorry if I have not provided enough information. I am also not sure as to which issues may simply be app problems as opposed to a problem with MIUI software or Xiaomi.
Hope I will be able to get some assistance!

Does the crash happen when the dialog opens, or when you click the orange entry?
Try giving your sdcard a name, possibly doing it from a desktop computer.
Hi, the crash happens when I click on "Overview" then click on "To start press [refresh icon]" and then you just press there - what normally happens is it will give a overall summary of the phone.
However, I have just tried it again. When that error message comes up, instead of tapping on the listed entry (as is instructed), I press "Done" and it is able to give me a summary!
So for some reason it appears as though it doesn't work (at least from the error message), and I just press done and it still works.
Thanks for your reply nevertheless! Would not have figured that out had you not replied hahaha.
If you just press "done", SD Maid won't have access to your external sdcard.
Did you try installing the Xiaomi EU rom, since it's supposed to be cleaned from chinese apps (Like the baidu one).
Hi all,
Sorry it seems like I never came back to expand what I have done to try and fix these problems.
I ended up changing to Hermes ROM here http://www.smiui.net/redminote2_hermes.php
Most of the issues above are now solved, but there are some that are still present such as #2 and #5. So Amplify still doesn't work, but I think this is a hardware limitation and Auto Call Recorder still doesn't work. As for why Auto Call Recorder doesn't work, I don't know why, but I am not greatly bothered by it so I have not attempted to do anything to resolve that problem.
