Is a TP upgrade/trade-in deal likely? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Is it even likely that Asus will give us an option to trade in (of course not for free) our TP for one of the better redesigned models coming soon?
edit: say, to this one?: http://eee.asus.com/eeepad/transformer-infinity/features/
I'm simply asking because I don't know what large companies do in these kinds of situations.

Don't bet on it.

Probably most definitely not.
Plus they are not even sure which processor it will use
Whether its the Qualcomm dual core or tegra3

They do know... the answer is both. On the Infinity tablet if you go wifi only tablet its tegra3 clockspeed 1.6 and if its the 4g LTE its the Qualcomm clock speed 1.5

they way i read it is that the 3g/4g version will use the dualcore, and the wifi only version will use the tegra3.

It really is too bad. The redesigned back on the Infinity looks like it will much improve the signal of both WiFi and GPS...

I highly doubt it. The only reason that they may offer some type of trade-in program would be because of the GPS fiasco with the TF201. However, it has been my understanding that ASUS is going to offer the TF201 along side the Infinity so it wouldn't make much sense to offer a trade-in program if the two models are going to sit on the shelf next to each other. In reality though, I wonder if ASUS is going to quietly push the TF201 to the way-side and slowly kill it off without trying to piss too many of the current owners off, and replace it with the Infinity.
We don't come across "these kinds of situations" very often as it is typically a piss poor business model to release or even announce future versions of tech-toy type gadgets (such as tablets) so close to each other. There is a reason why Apple releases the iPad, iPhone, iPod, etc. the way they do...
1) Announce the new product at some big event (like the one coming up next Wednesday)
2) Release the product within 1-2 months of the announcement
3) Retail pipelines are fully hydrated with the new product within a couple of months after initial release
4) Rinse and repeat a year after the original announcement
By announcing a new product so close to the original product's release date several bad things happen that affect the company's sales. The main issue is that many people will hold off on buying the original product since they know/assume that the release of the new one is near. A second issue is that future sales can be negatively impacted because of lost company loyalty. It can be frustrating for current owners of the product to find out that their shiny new gadget that was just released is going to be 'outdated' before they were expecting it to be.

Magic 8 ball says:
.

There may or may not be, but definitely is, no chance that they will do that.

Yeah, I would definitely not count on it. I am sure they will give some excuse involving our throw away society.

Failure rates of less than 1% are successful by anyone's measure in the field of consumer electronics.

Makes me wonder if there is a space some where on the prime board for a 3g chip/mod and if the HD screen will has the same connections as standard.
But no after the launch of the prime there would likely be no chance they would offer us an upgrade. They don't seem to care about us much.
Btw have they actually changed the back on new primes? Does wifi work on new primes now?

So stores chose to turn down the TP because of less than 1% failure rates? Of course, those stores that eventually received any units. The word from my local store's distributor said they couldn't get a word from Asus when the next shipments would arrive. And it's seemingly random which stores get the shipments.
There are still plenty of stores waiting to receive their shipments.

If you look there you can see the top of the backpanel has been changed to accommodate better wireless reception as the GPS and WiFi radio are placed in that region.

well according to them, they consider Prime a success with less than 1% failure/return rate. that's what they said. nothing else to be released to contradict that statement. plus with it still being promoted at MWC outlook looks good for prime owners.

That's what eBay is for.
I had pre-ordered my original Transformer, and then my Prime. When the Prime finally came, I checked it out and then put my original Transformer up for sale on eBay. It sold quickly getting what I consider a good price. The guy who bought it is very pleased, and so am I.
That same week I also sold off my touchscreen netbook to a very pleased customer. I do the same with cameras. That way I get to have new toys and there's no high-tech junk in the closet.
Bye.

Personally I like my Prime more than any new redesign models coming out. I've bought 3 primes and none had the BT/WIFI problem(don't care for gps), But one did have a constant rebooting problem.
The redesign models just look cheap.

Less than 1%...really? Where is that number coming from?

Thanks Asus for Standing by your Product

I am extremely disappointed in your company and the poor business practices.
I purchased a transformer prime based of the specs and supposed solid company making the unit. I read many articles about the issues the prime had but made a poor decision believing the delay in reaching retail was to fix the issues with the unit. After purchasing I found that the GPS is almost useless and our way to fix it was to remove the reference to GPS from the product sheet. This was very underhanded and shows a lack of standing behind your product. I have also lost a SD card because the SD slot was poorly implemented and results in them being easily springing out of the unit.
Now I find out that instead of fixing these issues you decide to scrap the Prime within weeks of release and ship a newer unit and leave us early adopters in the cold. On top of that not only are you releasing a fixed and fully functional unit you upgrade their screen resolution again leaving us out in the cold. I realize that there is always something new on the horizon but you clearly
released an untested unit that is a black eye on you company and instead of making it right you sweep it under the carpet and hope the new
launch will make everyone forget about the troubled prime. The pathetic thing is this will work but thousands of early adopters who spent there
money on your product are left in the corner crying that we have a product that was sold to us not fully functional.

Wow, the new features are:
1. Back design change to enhance GPS/Wifi
2. Higher resolution screen
3. 2MP front camera.
This is certainly a bug fix release. How do you sell the current Prime along side the newer one with a $100 different in price for higher res screen and modest increase in MP for front camera? The current prime will be quietly phased out shortly after the release and the price for the new one will drop to the current Prime price. I kind of feel dry fu**** now.

Wow, people are impatient. This whole GPS thing just happened. Why does anyone expect ASUS to have already decided how they're going to handle it?
If we're in the same place at the end of January, beginning of February, then maybe it'll be time to pull out the pitchforks. Until then, hows about we relax a little?

If you buy a 2011 car in July, you know that the 2012's are coming out in the Fall. If you buy a 2012 car in the Fall, you'd assume it'll be "new" until the 2013's come out. How would you feel if they announced a 2012.5 immediately after you purchased? And that the dealer knew and even had the brochures in his desk and didn't show them to you? You may still buy the 2012 but at least you'd have had the option of waiting. Kind of a clunky analogy but it makes the point.
On the plus side Prime owners, all the smug cnuts rubbing our faces in it will get the shaft from Asus in about 6 months so we piss all over them too at that time. And they will have paid more to get screwed over.
The people saying to calm down because new tech comes out often are missing the point. The issue here is that it's pretty clear that the new Prime is coming out to address defects of the current one. It's not a "new" product in the traditional sense.

how are they releasing it before there is stock of the tf201? this thing is slated to be out in q2, and with the delays that surrounded the prime and tf101, it probably won't hit stores before fall.
as to the lack of new hardware,
remember the iphone 3gs, 4s?
the droid 3/4/x2?
a plethora of HTC devices?
many companies offer slightly refreshed versions of hardware as "new" versions, it's nothing new and since they are charging more for the new tablet AND it won't be out before june most likely i don't really see the problem.
if anyone is unhappy with this development, everyone here is still in their return windows, no one is holding a gun to anyones head and forcing them to keep the prime.
now what i do find issue with is them not offering to replace the back cover for prime owners who want the better functioning gps/wifi, but since the dimensions seem to be the same (since the docks are compatible) they still could offer something like that for us.

Exactly. The Asus execs all sat in a room and said, how can we fix our design flaw issue here so it doesn't haunt us all year? Let's fix the back plate design flaw and add a couple of small new things so that it appears to be a new product and slap a new model number on it. Once released, we will quietly phase out the original prime and blame poor sales on the decision. Then we drop the price of the newer prime and all is fixed.
Which is my issue. I understand new tech comes out quickly. I had a Xoom day 1 and in less then a year upgraded it. My issue is that they are being very unethical in how they are handling the design flaws. When did it become acceptable to sell a product that is advertised with certain abilities and then saying later that because you removed it from the spec sheet after launch they are no longer accountable. And when has any company announced an upgrade before the original is truly sitting on shelves.

Agreed. Regardless of whether I decide to keep my Prime or not (I'm leaning towards keeping it, as I want a tablet now and don't see any other suitable alternatives currently available), I will never be buying another product from Asus again. There are plenty of other companies that make similar products. I'll 100% be using them over Asus in the future.
whoopde do. When it comes out in six months i'll sell my prime for $250 or $300 and buy one.
I am not within my window to return it as once you opened the unit many companies will not return them. Best Buy only allows a 14 day window on tablets which is also past for many of us.

Cancelled Pre-orders (PROOF email required)

Just wondered how much of an impact this new device was having on pre order cancellations.
I've been looking forward to this device for over 6 months. We've essentially ended up with a broken/prototype device whilst Asus promote a *fixed* version.
This is disgusting as far as customer relations go. I'm almost certainly cancelling my pre order tomorrow. Hoping to hear a statement from Asus regarding this complete mess!
Please post screens of your cancelled orders. May be if we can get some numbers regarding impact Asus may listen.

GPS dead, wifi crippled, and now asus is pretty much jumping ship to their new prime 2.0..
Im working on returning it for a refund right now.
I wish I had preordered just to be able to go in and cancel, I'd hope that the store would be left with lots on the shelf. That's the only way we could expect our voices to be heard.
There are far too many people willing to ignore this situation that nothing is going to be done about it.
The TF700 announcement made up my mind
Once Asus started pushing the new model, the message came to me loud and clear.

Well, I didn't cancel a pre-order but mine was RMA'd for replacement. I switched that to a refund...not too sure if I'm going to bother with ASUS or just wait to see what else is available.

I would be very angry if the TF700T was priced closer to TF201. Now that would really make me send it back with a nasty letter to Asus. But the fact that it's $100 more for both 32 and 64GB, that tells me Asus didn't just "jump ship". The learned from their stupid mistakes, made a new one and are selling it right alongside with the current one. That means the best bang for your buck tablet is still a Transformer Prime that's only $600 with a 64GB storage.
What bothers me though is the fact that Asus could barely meet demands with this whole pre-order fiasco and has the ****ing balls to go ahead and actually spent time (time that should have been focused on getting me my goddamned Prime) to come out with another product to sell. That tells me either they have A.D.D. or they have A.D.D. and all they want is money. How can they leave the people who pre-ordered left hanging to dry? That, to me, is a piece of **** company.
At this point though I have no choice but to stick to my Prime (TF201) pre-order because my Xoom has been hijacked by my 2-year old and I need a tablet badly --meaning waiting isn't an option and buying another Tegra 2 would be going backwards at this point. FML.
I deal mostly with media and games, the office work belongs to Windows. The TF700 is ideal for streaming hd video specially now that I've upgraded to 6 mbps on my dsl to watch the Netflix hd movies. The new res standards are out and I will let the dust settle before deciding.
As the trend indicates, one thing is for sure, Asus moves faster than other tablet manufacturers.
The new TF700T feels like a "filler". By Q4 and the 2012 holidays, they will have the true 3rd gen Transformer. So whoever pays the extra $100 for the TF700T model, might be in for some serious buyer's remorse. Think about it.
TF1 -> TF2 -> TF2.5 -> (only a few months from the summer) and you've got TF3. Like I said in another thread. The TF700T are for those who badly need the GPS. The higher resolution at a premium of $100 more is baloney. As for the 2MP front-facing camera? That's a gimmick. From 1.3MP to 2MP means nothing. Take it from a photographer and someone who has an 8MP webcam that's supposedly "HD" and "1080p". Skyping still looks crappy.
I'm not knocking on the TF700T, but if you guys want to drop the TF201 for it, think about it really hard. Like I said before, the best bang for your buck is still the TF201. Line up all the Android tablets and you will see all the specs are similar except for the fact that for the same price in a Galaxy Tab 10.1 or a Xoom/Xoom 2, you can have an Asus with double the storage. That to me is very important as I sync my DSLR wirelessly to my tablet to show clients my shots in real time... and RAW files eat storage space like no one's business.
I understand that Asus is pushing products out the order ahead of the others but in their haste the product design and performance turned out faulty. I'm looking forward to the 700 simply because it appears the problem is fixed and the specs are better although I'd like to see a faster clock to handle the higher res.
I just got shafted, Mediamarkt said no returns on licensed products, whatever the phuck that means.
So I guess the dead GPS and shoddy Wifi are "on me".
Asus issued the warranty so you should contact them next to present your case, good luck!

You can rely on devs here to bring that to you in due time, regarding the faster clock speeds. The CPU and GPU will be the same. So it doesn't matter what the clock speeds are set at since you can always change it later on anyway.
I can't blame Asus for designing the aluminum back the way they did. I'm pretty sure their R&D department felt the pressure from higher up to make it so that it pretty much sells as a bundle with the dock. Meaning, they probably said something along the line as "Design the tablet so that people would definitely feel compelled to buy the dock." Hence the designers made it look all aluminum so that when it's shut close with the dock, it looks sexier than a MacBook Air. Remember how Asus was bragging about the swirled brush aluminum design? It was a decision to make a chic looking ultra portable device. I don't think it was in haste, but I do believe the GPS flaw as a result was in hindsight.
As for the TF700T, let's face it. People who will buy that will definitely say "What an ugly netbook this makes!" It looks like two separate devices that clicks into one with the top bit looking really out of place. I have never seen a laptop, in all the years of owning laptops, with a black bar on top like that. That was what Asus wanted to avoid with the TF201 --the matching color, material and texture so that when you buy the dock, you gawk in awe at the handsome "transforming" device.
so whos pissed they cancelled before ICS came out and fixed a majority of the issues?

As someone who has had ICS on my Xoom for about a month now, not to mention waking up to CM9 this morning, I am definitely looking forward to the development on the TF201 Prime. I, for one, am contemplating getting back into devving for the Prime.
Though I like and appreciate the artwork, it is not a prime consideration for me. It can be as rugged and ugly as a military grade laptop as long as the specs are working as advertised. I'm starting to like the 700 because of the new specs that will function without any mods. In that respect, no mod will come up with the 1080p res without slowng it down.

The WiFi and BT issue is software, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong. The slower WiFi and shoddy BT due to the aluminum backing is a myth started by paranoid early Prime adaptors. Apple has been making aluminum and magnesium unibodies with no WiFi or BT problems. Concrete or whatever your house has are bigger factors. GPS is a different story.
These wireless devices work on rf with differing frequencies and that affects their ability to pass through or penetrate barries. It could be a combination hw/sw, I'm not exactly sure until they put it on a bench and run a battery of tests. That's what really irritates me about Asus, they've done nothing but cover up the problems.

[Q] Are you gonna stick it to ASUS and return the PRIME?

I think more than a few of us are disgusted by their actions today. As much as I love the software upgrade cycle, this indignity is too much.
sick post bro.. should make this a sticky.

Sorry, I've been bitten by the early adopter bug before, this is different.
I've never heard of a product coming out having the issues with performance that the Prime has had, had the manufacturer admit it and have there answer to be taking the features off the cut sheet and announcing an updated model a week later.
I almost forgave them for the TF101 dock not being compatible even though they said it would work with future updates. The pattern of dishonorable lies shows itself.
Keeping my prime... when it comes in eventually.
And probably moving to the new Samsung Galaxy Tab when it comes out this summer.
Honestly they are 2 different products with different pricing structures.
Furthermore, the new Prime comes out 4 months (or more) from now.
The way electronics are moving, a company has a right to upgrade its specs with a new device at a higher price in 4 months.
Imagine Samsung would introduce the Galaxy s3 in April / May. Do you think everyone who got an s2 last month would go mad?
Get used to technology - anything you buy will be obsolete, it's just a matter of when.

Releasing ICS?
I will be keeping mine

I agree.
If GPS is your problem then I am sure you can return it and wait to buy the new one or something else.
That wasn't professional of them, but they admitted the mistake and I am sure they will take it back.
For 99% of the people though, GPS on a wi fi tablet is not an issue.
The Ipad doesn't even have it, and no one ever complained (then again, those are sheeps, not customers...)
I'm completely disgusted by their behaviour, so I went ahead and cancelled my order. I'm sure I'll be equally as disgusted when I have the TF700T in my hands.
Hell no, it's a great tablet.
As long as we have devs working on the prime for the foreseeable future (read: atleast another year or so) I would stick to my guns with the present Transformer prime.
Can I vote for "No and will everyone stop making all these pointless threads already"?
another nonsense post...totally happy with Asus and the prime...
Part of me is so sad seeing threads like this since I, and majority of the users here, don't even have Prime yet.
The problem is that the announcement was missing part. They should have announced a trade-in program for existing TF201 users who have the word GPS on the box, or offered to replace the back of the TF201 with the plastic version. Instead they announce an "upgrade" less than a month after the TF201s release and subsequent PR nightmare, that just happens to have the plastic back that would have fixed the current tablet. The timing of it makes me think the plastic back was meant for the TF201 but they didnt want to take the TF201s out of the box and replace the backs.
I paid for GPS. I expected GPS functionally identical or superior to the first generation TF101. I was not given the GPS I paid for. Furthermore, they have done NOTHING to apologize. They have not given me a refund, or even offered me a special coupon towards a friggin accessory. My ass hurts, doesn't yours?
Furthermore you can expect that this tablet won't have much in the way of community support. I suspect they have already halted production on this device. They might release a TF201 Rev. B with GPS removed altogether, or a plastic back, but we probably won't see any more. Oh wait, they did that already, it's called a TF700. This TF201 will likely be something of a collectors item With the TF101 on the lowend and the "highend" TF201 being replaced by the TF700 I don't expect there will be much of a market for the TF201. The only saving grace for the TF201 will be if the similar hardware means that ROMs for the TF700 work on the TF201.
Maybe if everyone returns their primes , I'll be the only one with one.

A definite answer?

Ok, I keep hearing around here that the TF201 is NOT being discontinued. And it seems reasonable that it would stick around. However, at my company, we had ordered 1 for the CFO and he really likes his and they are talking about ordering 6 more for other managers. The lady that does ordering called our vendor and they are saying that they talked to Asus directly and the TF201 is discontinued now. They said we would have to wait for the TF300.
Has there been any OFFICIAL announcement from Asus either way on this?
Its been discontinued for a while now as far as i know...because of all the wi-fi and GPS problems this specific model has. I believe the TF300 will be out in June or Q3 of 2012...whilest the TF700t will be out shortly after the TF300.

I believe ASUS posted on their facebook page that the TF201 was not being discontinued and this was just a rumor. However this has been a couple months ago now so things may have changed. I also believe Gary Key stated a while back on the forums that the discontinued talk was merely a rumor.
As of March they are still manufacturing the TF201 as we have seen C3 serials show up in stores. It will be another week or two before we see C4 serials. If we don't start to see C4 serials after a couple of weeks then this would most likely indicate that it is being discontinued.
However, I strongly believe that ASUS is not and will not be discontinuing the TF201 any time soon. This is just speculation. And to answer your question as far as whether or not ASUS has provided an official statement, they have but it has been a couple of months since they did so.

It is definitely discontinued and has been for several months, and this is evidenced by the VP of marketing on this site saying that it hasn't been discontinued. There are too many problems evidently (1% of all primes have issues).

Not this rumor again..lmao. Prime is not being discontinued. PERIOD. End of story. The Asus representative, Gary, even said in his Unofficial thread here just recently that it wasn't going to be discontinued. They still sell it online and at Gamestop, Best Buy, and other brick n mortar stores.
Look at his more recent updates in the op of that thread and you will see. Tell your boss he needs to find another retailer selling it..lol. there are still new people popping in xda everyday with new primes. Plus there's already C3 models out now. Soon we will see C4 ones.
Plus Prime is still heavily advertised on official Asus website. If it were to be discontinued, they would've quickly and easily of removed that info from website. People overreacting..lol.

Actually the tf-700 might not release in the u.s. at all. Plus now they are saying it won't be released anywhere until end of year more than likely. Check out the other thread where someone posted an email from Asus on the infinity pad.
Plus if it were discontinued, we would constantly see new model serial numbers pop up. Don't believe all the negative discontinued hype.

Yeah I hear you... however, best buy apparently is no longer carrying it. They don't ship it online, and no Best buy within a 200 miles radius of me has it in stock. That includes most of the Twin Cities, Minneapolis/St. Paul area... I think that if they were still actively in production don't you think that somebody would have them in stock? This all seems a little fishy to me... I even looked at bigger cities for Best Buy stock and nothing in Chicago or California area either... The only reason I got mine was because it was a open box that I got at my local Best Buy about a month ago. And mine is one of the older S/Ns, BCOKAS.
Just an observation...

That's a good observation. I think its more of Asus retooling or adding new components to newer/future primes to eliminate possible issues. We have seen other similar letters like in op stating that. Plus prime can still be found online and at Gamestop. I know the one in my area has them in stock because I called the other day looking for a dock. They said they had no docks ATM, that they only had the tablet itself in stock at that store. Plus there are alot more places than best buy online that would have it. Still doesn't explain the flood of new owners showing up in prime forum everyday. Still doesn't explain why Asus still advertises it on their official u.s. and global website. Which is always updated with new info on products they carry.
I don't feed into the negative stuff as it tends to come more from past complainers and trolls. They love to stir up stuff in prime forum for others. Looking at everything in a negative way and put some crazy spin on things.
I had my Prime since 12/22. An early BCOKA model and works great. Haven't had any real problems with it. Wifi works great on it as I compared it to my Ipad wifi and atrix wifi. Prime is right on par or better than my other units.
It is not being discontinued but im sure if it weren't for the Prime owners complaining, they would've discontinued it. There are clear wifi/gps problems with the Prime due to the aluminum back (hence why their new line has a rubber/plastic strip). There is no reason for ASUS to have so many lines of products with such little differences.
And I'm gonna make a bold guess here, but I think they would much rather replace the Prime with the TF700 and make it $500 instead of $600. The reason they are making it $600 is so that it will seem like a "premium" Prime instead of a Prime replacement. Placing the TF700 at $600 would mean that it surpasses the price of the iPad that has a even higher res display and LTE. And frankly, the general consumer is unlikely to buy a Android tab that is as expensive as the iPad let alone more expensive.

My honest opinion is..
Why when the new models come out would they carry on making a Tablet that even Asus admits is flawed due to all Aluminium back.
Think Logically if the new models were available now & after reviewing options, would you purchase the TF201 ?
I do not think when new models are released there will be very little, if any demand for the Prime, so the Prime really is living on borrowed time.

Surely you are not that naive, Asus would not admit to prime being discontinued untill it has replacement in shops, they want to keep selling primes untill replacement is in shops. Admitting it was discontinued now would greatly affect Sales.
Within 2 or 3 months of the TF300/700 being released the Prime will meet a quiet quick demise.
PS
I own a prime & dock which I am quite happy with apart from useless GPS

I would easily purchase the prime over those 2. here's why. I don't want a lower spec 300 model. its less powerful, less battery life, display not as good. its regular ips, not ips+ like on prime. plus FCC report already shows 300 wireless performance can't be expected to be better than prime. especially with wifi/BT used at the same time. I don't want a tf-700 model because it will cost more. has less battery life than prime. plus, according to an email posted by another member is from Asus VP of technical whatever states no plans for u.s. release of infinity pad and it won't be released anywhere till the end of the year likely. check it out. so I have no reason to wait. fully satisfied with my prime.
we are still seeing new serial number Models pop up. we had Asus publicly and on this forum stating Prime will not be discontinued. AND YES, ASUS ADMITTED TO LESS THAN 1% OF UNITS HAVING ISSUES AND BEING RETURNED. It was stated on Cnet interview, which they said makes sense, and Gary explained it on this site. So no real concrete proof pointing to them discontinuing it. Come with some better info to back up the claim and then maybe me n others might believe it also. till then, just speculation and false rumors just like the other stuff floating around.
all their tablets now fit a particular price range including the prime. so I would easily take it over the others. its the thinnest and lightest. plus performs great all around. Plus Asus wouldn't happen to be working on a big announcement concerning prime if it were to be discontinued. they wouldn't even have bothered spending the money or research behind a fix to a product to be discontinued. they would just focus on future products instead and let prime die off.
better luck next time. Prime will live on. We will continue to knock all these false rumors down one by one..lmao
@demandarin
We will have to wait and see who is right
For me the I'm in the Prime is on its Way Out Camp. My guess is TF700 will come out costing $100 more & within very short time primes funeral & TF700's price will drop to what prime is now to compete with that fruity competitor.

I do agree, the devices are spec similar. BUT at least its more of a major difference compared to Samsung lineup of tablets. they have all different lineup and spec similar. except for one thing, all their stuff is highly overpriced. at least Asus has a more reasonable priceline.
I can see prime ending around next winter or so. but by then that's the natural cycle of tablets ending anyways. Tf-700 has already been stated to not release till the end of the year. check the letter from Asus VP of something thread. so that gives prime plenty of time to still sell. by the time tf-700 finally comes out, it'll be the natural ending cycle for prime anyways. that's how technology is.
with the specs of the prime, it still has a place that fits in the lineup. regardless what some may believe. then you have the Asus built Google nexus tegra3 7in. tablet said to come out. ill say prime won't be discontinued anytime soon. for any product, there always come a time down the road when its discontinued. Wait till the announcement is released then tell me again does it make sense that they will discontinue the prime.
lets say they do discontinue it soon, so what..lol. it won't stop my Prime from functioning or performing great. it won't stop the major developement we already have for it. it still won't stop up getting updates, at least for a good while. So prime owners good either way. they already discontinuing the tf-101 less than a year from being released. to have it replaced by 300 model. tf-101 model just got ICS so it's still receiving support. Discontinued or not, Asus supports their products down the road. So I'm not worried anyways. I already plan on keeping my prime till Tegra4 releases at the end of the year. So once people finally able to buy infinity pad, Asus will announce the new Tegra4 powered Transformer pad..lmao. tegra4 is worth the wait if you already own a prime, IMO. nothing else announced to come out really grabs my interest. except to tegra3 powered Google nexus tablet built by Asus. that'll be so cheap ill get one anyways. most other new tablets coming out for android will be tegra3 powered anyways. there's like over 12 tablets announced and set to release eventually that will be tegra3 powered. they all are listed in another thread.
So ill take that bet also. if I lose, ill gladly admit I was wrong. but people make it seem like this will happen in the next month or something...lol. prime will be discontinued on its natural cycle ending date for tablets.

also kindle fire 2 will be coming out around the end of the year with tegra 3. i guess we'll see how the battery life measures up. but if you are in the market at present for something with good battery life..the acer iconia a510 contains a 13 hr video playback battery life according to its specs.

hold up..First thing is first..lmfao. where in da world did you hear kindle fire2 will have tegra3 also? I've never seen any hint of that. could be possible but very shocking. I doubt they will use that chip as its out of their league..lol.
To your first statement, they were debating ln it at first. now this is all according to tech sites rumors and speculations. at first it was said to have tegra3. then we heard to cut down on price they were going to use a lesser spec chip. then just recently, all reports show them going back with tegra3 and they will city costs elsewhere, which I think is good idea. Google nexus tablet needs to be powerful and low priced. this is to look more enticing than kindle fire or nook. so the latest spec on nexus tablet is that it will be made by Asus and still will use tegra3.
I heard about that Acer battery life. we will have to see what the real battery life performance will be once it releases. Prime + Dock still has best battery life of all. 18+ hrs. estimated battery life combined. plenty of people came in this forum and said if you think Asus has problems, Acer is alot worse. it'll be like going from jumping into a small fire to jumping into a volcano..lol. so I'm very skeptical on Acer products based on what other Acer owners that passed through here have said.

if it was before prime was ever announced or released. sure. its cheaper priced. but I have no regrets on my prime purchase at all. it has performed to well for me. I wouldn't downgrade or get rid of my prime to get a lower spec 300. I do love the new colors though. I think the whole Asus line of tablets will be good. it will just depend on how much you can afford or willing tl spend. not everyone wants to dish out $500-700 for a prime or infinity pad. only reason I spent this much on a prime because I bought it as a Christmas gift to myself. plus I know its more than powerful enough that I won't need another tablet for a long time. Tegra4 powered Asus tablet is what I'm waiting for next. till then, prime does everything I ask of it just fine. This really is a great tablet. I never use my Ipad anymore. Prime is soo sexy Sleek n lightweight. lol

TF700T not until winter holidays...

I got word today from a source. Not sure if it is really reliable, but it certainly sounds like Asus to me.
Asus has NO plans at all to release their 700 model until winter/Christmas holidays so they can reap in the big sales. Of course they had a couple at the electronics show, but that was just a prototype model and Asus wanted to make some headlines to boost sales. This is why they are very quiet about release time during the electronics show because they didn't want to tell anyone it would be months and months away. Bad publicity if they were to do that. It does kind of make sense a little. They completely failed on the release of their TF201 which never made Christmas/winter holiday and has been difficult to buy ever since. Asus just doesn't want that many TF201's out there, hence the very slow production rate. It was difficult to buy an TF201 3 months even after it came out. That should tell you something. I was told they released the 300 model just to be available for the potential customer's that didn't want all the issues and problems with the TF201. This is why they are almost identical. What to believe? Who knows. I do believe we won't see the TF700 until late, late this year. It does make a little sense to me and I never did understand why the TF201 was so hard to get 3 months after release.
some of it makes sense, alot doesn't. if Asus didn't want to sell prime, they could've easily stopped producing and stopped selling them. its hard for some people to get a hold of. for others its easy. Prime is still being sold. The 300 wasn't released to mask problems of prime. they always had this 3 tablet lineup in mind. I agree the 700 won't be out anytime soon, at least here in U.S.
take everything with a grain of salt. for the simple fact that people were speculating prime being discontinued only a week or 2 after release, and here we are over 6months later and its still available and being sold says alot. people working at Bestbuy here said they have plenty of them and shipments still coming in. it would probably be better if Asus were to wait to the holidays to release, they should release it with new android jellybean firmware and possibly a newer tegra3 chip. Last thing Asus needs to do is to rush a product again. they will release once they feel confident in the best timing for it.

And the couple of hundred thousand they could sell before that would somehow prevent them from selling them for the holidays? If people are buying tablets now regardless of brand their off the market for the holidays anyway.

Engadget are reporting that the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity has hit the FCC.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/21/asus-transformer-pad-infinity-series-hits-the-fcc/
Wouldn't Asus wait a bit before applying for FCC approval if Christmas was the release date in NA? What about back to school/college market in August?
The cheaper 300 is aimed for students and back to school market.
The tf201 seems extremely hard to get, even at this point I live in NL and very few shops have it In stock, and if they have it they have very few, luckly I got one of the last ones, I sent it back to Asus because the camera didn't work , 3 weeks in not a word from them, and tbh releasing the tf700t in winter is kind of bad, the iconia tab a700 is around the corner, so I may just get that instead
Sent from my Samsung GNexus <3
Ya it makes more sense to me to release it sooner than later, look at the playbook, they waited too long with their dual core tablet and gave samsung and HTC a chance to catch up. If RIM had released the playbook before christmas like they should have they would have stolen a lot of sales from sammy and HTC.
As long as they can get a decent supply down i see no reason for Asus to wait. Just as long as they take control of their QC issues.
Later would definitely be bad news, granted the 600 nit screen is a selling point for a lot of people, but knowing that the a700 isn't going to have the lightbleed problems AsusQC has missed out on allot of the time may be what pushes me that way. I can handle the heat with a case. You'd think Asus would want that tablet out sooner than later, because the note10.1 will appeal to more of the mass public as well.

Excellent point, if the problems that the prime has are not completely taken care of I will have to consider other tab makers should I choose to update. The screen and form factor kept me with Asus so far, but the reboots on a machine that's 500+ dollars is unacceptable at this point for any reason. And I'm sure the infinity will retail for more, so it might be in the same price range as a W8 tab. Point is if I'm dropping over half a grand at the very least the basic functions better be flawless.

Hmm, a lot of it doesn't make sense.
1.) Releasing a product for Christmas is traditionally one of the worst time of the year to launch a new product.
2.) Acer A700, product with similar spec to Asus Infinity 700 just went through FCC....
3.) Even if Infinity 700 gets released with Jelly Bean, I doubt it'll be the flagship Jelly Bean tablet (unless the rumored 7 in. Google/Asus tablet is scrapped)... And by releasing late in the yr for "Christmas"... Asus is looking at competition from W8 tablets, possible Apple 7in. variant iPad .. & already released Android tablets with very similar spec with the possibility of discounted price.
4.) Finally, showing off Infinity Pad 700 as prototype pissed off Prime owners & it sets up for major failure if the initial plan was to launch the product a full year later (a year worth of PR can have very negative effect).
The only possibility based on this rumor is...
1.) Tegra 3 version of Infinity 700 is scrapped for US at least..
2.) Asus will release S4 dual-core 3g/4g LTE version at the end of the year through US carriers... this sort of makes sense.
Actually, the Infinity 700 just went through the FCC as well. There's no way they did that 6 months ahead of time.

The TF700 will be released by the end of Q2, in fact it just passed FCC approval. As to the other points, your source is severely messed up.

That's basically what I said in an earlier post.
Thanks to Gary for confirming a late Q2 release. I hope this is all of NA and not just a USA release.
Who still skeptical now? Lol

Its for overseas first, I believe. Na release will follow afterwards. this can change though. they call the shots. could surprise everyone and release all at once.
I'm ok with the Prime right now. They just need to fix these dang browser issues. Tegra 3 (Quad Core) should be just as fast a laptop..if not faster at browsing web pages. But the next update better be the answer I've been waiting on or it's hello W8 tablet,Samsung tablet. They actually have 2 speakers on their new budget tablet facing the user (brilliant). Yet the TF700 will still have the same design as the TF201 with the speaker facing away from the user which makes you have to put your hand near it to hear it good. Asus needs to take some damn notes on design for 1 thing !!

Thank you Gary! Your confirmation will be appreciated by many here just itching to get their hands on this table....myself included
Already pre-ordered the Infinity 64GB + Dock in Norway, so I'm glad to see it's confirmed for Q2.
To put it this way, if the Infinity delays to Q3 or Q4, I will most likely buy a Win8-tablet instead. And I'm pretty sure I'm not alone with those thoughts

Apparently my source is "messed up", so lets move on to an more important issue.
Assuming the TF700 will be about $600-$700 (it is a step up from the Prime) can you confirm there finally will be quality control on these products and all the features work like intended? I've had 5 Prime tablets. All with QC issues. If I would ever consider buying another Asus product again I'd like to hear from the source itself. If not, I'll just make a half mortgage payment.
