Taking note back... What a shame... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I finally got the note... The phone is awesome... This is the phone of all phones.... The only thing i dislike is the data service AT&T offers my area... The service kills every thing about this phone is capable of doing.... AT&T doesn't have lte here... But they have the 4g... Which is not consistent enough to even call it 4g.... It picks up 4g and then switches to regular 3g... I won't pay AT&T an extra 20 bucks a month for this service... After half a day with this service, the note will be returned to AT&T and hope Verizon gets it very soon...
For the mean time galaxy SII on the Sprint network will do very well...

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Don't take it back. Wait until after your first month and then go to the AT&T store and tell them you want to buy your contract out ($324). Now unlock your Note and use it on any carrier! This is what I am doing. Got my Note for half price ($149) and next month am buying out my contract and using the note on Straight Talk!
$324 + $149 = $473

Have fun with Verizon's 1.5Mbps "3G" network versus AT&T's 7-14Mbps FauxG network.
My company-use Vivid regularly sees 5-7Mbps in my town. My buddy's work Droid RAZR MAXX? 1.3-1.7Mbps.
Have fun with Straight Talk, too. 3.2Mbps max download and pray to all the Gods in the universe that you never have an issue that requires you to call in to customer care.

It's funny how you call it the "**** rocket" when it has the exact same internals as the note... Which you apparently own.

Ooh, who gets to be the first to make snide remarks about the failed update to 2.3.6 for the S2?

Don't forget Verizon's multiple 3g/4g outages the past few months.

Why don't you get some info from ATT on when they will deploy LTE in your area. Do you travel.?
This is a big mistake on your part, you get a Porsche and return it because the CD player does not play DVDs. Geesh

I have EDGE where I live and the Note is good enough to keep me on AT&T. I still can't believe that they won't fill in the only gap in Delaware that is completely surrounded by HSPA+. I hate when people complain about even "3G" speeds when I have to live with EDGE.

What recommendations do you guys have on this matter...

Both 8660....

Sorry to hear. It is a great phone but it would suck if the network is not cutting it where you live. A poor network would take away a lot of the GNote's potential in my view. Hope you get it on another network in the future.

@mred, not to get off topic but what font is that and where can I get it?
edit:
I'm retarded never bothered to look at stock fonts.

Hey the Note is awesome. Wireless networks fast or slow are amazing, considering what you can do on them. Remember the Zach Morris bricks we use to carry? Besides at&t has 40 or so million smartphone users and over 100 million total data users. It's amazing that the network is as reliable as it is. Kindle, Nooks, PlayStation Vitas, UPS, FedEx ATMs Vending machines you name it the **** doesn't happen by magic.

Amaze faster on 2g than the GSII on Sprint 3g!

So after I got pissed at my Sprint service I picked up the amaze from tmobile and the thing runs faster on 2g then Sprint did on 3g. Just wanted to put that out there for the people thinking of the switch that are in 2g areas coming from Sprint.

sprint's data was worthless....
I racked up a ton of roaming charges to get out of my Sprint contract ETF free because the data was beyond useless, like 25-50 kbps, T-Mo gives me anywhere from 7000 to 14000 kbps. I can watch Youtube videos again! I will take 5gb plus throttling over never being able to hit 1GB if I tried.
I use a Sprint PCS data card for work.
This is why I got a tethering plan with my phone.

I wish that was the case for me. My services were good with Sprint but they started charging me for stuff that didn't make any sense and the stores started to tell me to call *2 for everything. After I switched to T-mo I found out that they are kinda skipping 3G and going from 2 to 4. Which is better anyways.
I tried out sprint for 3 days and the data was so slow. At home I'd get 1-2mbps while on Tmo I'd get 5-8mbps. And i checked i was in "perfect" coverage too. Call quality was worse. Text messages came out or order. Their plans are good on cheap but the network sucked for me.

I just switched over and got the Amaze. Had the GS2 with Sprint and before that the 3D and the Photon. I agree T Mobile is way better but Sprint isnt that bad to me. 1-2 mbps is around the most you'll get on sprint 3G because the technology is limited to 3.1 mbps down.
I used to be impressed with data speeds but in real life situations how is 5-6 mb better than 1-2. i stream you tube and Pandora just fine on 1mb. even when i tether my tablet it browses just fine so please let me know how speeds up to 10mb really make a difference. I just picked up the amaze for the second time today and my house only has a 2g signal and its too slow to even use the market. at least i can download apps on my sprint evo without having to turn on wifi
If people got 1Mbps on Sprint regularly there wouldn't be such a huge problem.
100-300Kbps is too common on Sprint. Not only that but in areas where EV-DO is so crowded you get 1x switching.
I love sprint i just wish 4G speeds were on speeds with LTE come on wimax

Anybody else tired of bad tmo data outside of Wi-Fi? Whatever the speed test says, no ics modem on ics rom gives me usable data no matter how much i think this time i have done it. The only way i get data that lets me use apps and browse is with gb rc4a and blaze modem. Fck tmo and fck att for blocking the 1700 radio. sòooooooooooooooo frustrated. I would love to know why that is too. After the iPhone made its way to Verizon, I thought at&t would have been in a really tough spot.
I stick with att because I have multiple phones and love the ease of switching between them with just a Sim card (GSM) . Also I like having the option of using unlocked international phones that ATT does not offer.

AT&T is great when you're in an area that doesn't offer LTE. Their HSPA+ puts Verizons 3G to shame. Only reason I don't have T-Mobile is because I didn't get great reception at home. Swapping phones at will is nice as well.
I am using my note on tmobile and I'm getting great speeds on it. Throughout he day I usually get 6-10mbs download speeds. Sometimes I peak at 12mbs. The upload isn't great. I usually got 1-3mbs on my t989 but only around 100-500kb on the note. No biggie. Still fast for me. Only problem is it hangs occasionally and I have to toggle it on and off to get it working. I'm looking for a workaround for that.

just pointing out the fact that tmobile compared their 4g network to sprints and then used a iphone 4s as an example on sprint 4g.
http://explore.t-mobile.com/verizon-att-sprint/vs-sprint/
you know... most people here are 1D10T errors. lmao! 4S IS FOURTH GEN! iphone. has nothing to do with their crappy 3G connection. oh it is 3G and won't ever be 4G lol. When is sprint going to upgrade their 3G to compete with at&T? The average AT&T 3G connection IS FAR FASTER THAN SPRINTS SO CALLED 4G NETWORK. With verizon, I get 50+M down and 12M up! THEY have a real 4G network.
I do find the comparison amusing. It's two-sided. 1. It's T-Mobile trying to prove that it doesn't need the iPhone because it has superior phones. and 2. Because only AT&T is the only comparison that actually uses HSPA+ like them. Funny thing is they can get away with that marketing because they never once said they were comparing 4G services, they even state "two different phones, two different networks". Truth be told if they compared the Galaxy SII for Sprint or even AT&T's LTE version the results wouldn't look as favorable even if their psuedo 4G is better than Sprints 4G Wimax. The marketing works in their favor as most people just see what's put in front of them, everyone else actually takes the time to do a little research before they make a purchase like that.

Actually, the iPhone 4S is the 5th Generation iPhone. The iPhone 4 was the 4th generation.
Also, sprint or Verizon can't make their 3G as fast as AT&T. That is one of the downfalls of cdma. Gsm 3G is faster in general. Cdma 3G tops out around 3Mbps while gsm can get up to 5Mbps and possibly a little more.

So feel your pain, fixing to cancel and get a nexus world phone and go a different Avenue. Not going to wait another year. Just tired of waiting for things to improve.

While those are some ****ty upload speeds... The download is actually really good. And the ping is pretty good too.

I agree. I think his post was being sarcastic.
Upload is always way slower than download speeds.
Wish I got those speeds.
Verizon is going to have 4G in my area by the end of the summer. Looking at another two years before Sprint 4G comes to my area.
So the the ultimate question is, how much do I like unlimited data?
One thing I know is, if Sprint pulls unlimited data after it acquires a network I am going to be more than upset. If I sit here for the next couple of years getting 50-300kbps average, while I could be getting 10 times that on big red, only to see Sprint say, "Okay, we have a network comparable to the other carriers, here's tiered data..." Somehow, I think that's there plan.

It was all in jest. I get acceptable 3g and good 4g. However, I will be mad if LTE if slower in my area than my current 4g.

If that's there plan I'm out. If they change unlimited data they will definately be letting people out of ETF I would think

Man I would die for those speeds. I bet you can download a 2 hour movie in 10 mins or less.
Yeah, my speeds suck in St. Louis too.

Would love to see the 3G speeds. You are just lucky to have 4G coverage for the time being...maybe you'll have LTE by 2014

4G WIMAX is scheduled to be here until 2015 AFAIK.
3G in St. Louis:
Speed
I would kill for speeds like that. im getting 63kbps down and 109kbps up.
My 3g is typically around 2 down. Luckily I live in Houston so LTE should work well for me.

Using 3g:
Ping 201ms
down 732kbps
up 369kbps

My 3G speeds are slow, but I live in a 4G area so I hop on that when I need to. I wish it was a little quicker to turn on the 4G antenna, though.
3G speeds has definitely improved for me in northern Delaware

NOT sick of Sprint, works for me anyway

:good:
I'm in Las Vegas we had 4g early on. Won't be getting LTE for quite awhile but the 3g is decent enough to watch shows or whatever usually where i'm at. I never get dropped calls. Actually had them for 10 years now, Houston, Reno and Vegas never dropped calls.
I get a work discount so my bill is $69.95 total each month. My contract was up Feb 1 so i bought an evo off craigslist and activated without a 2 year contract. I looked at verizons prices, i think over $100 for a comparable plan.
Not perfect but i'm sticking with em.
Not bad I might add, for how far they've come on a complete network overhaul in less than a year...

Sprints has been doing some upgrades in North East Wisconsin. Almost everywhere I go I get ehrpd. That's one step closer to lte. The speeds have improved too.

I came from the AT&T side of straight talk (And DON'T listen to people, ST is not the same as having the actual carrier AT ALL.) It was the worst carrier I've ever had, and I had AT&T before with no complaints. I switched to Sprint on a discounted plan, got the EVO LTE, and I don't have a single complaint. I drive to/from work streaming radio and it doesn't miss a beat. If the network is congested I just switch from eHRPD to CDMA only and that usually fixes the issues. Sprint is totally worth it haha
Lucky you.
I am still waiting for the speed test to complete, which I started 5 minutes ago.
Edit: 790ms ping, 117kbps down, 109kbps up. I feel like luckiest kid alive (in 90's. Who just got ISDN)
Bump

I never got Wimax and never expected to get LTE, but I I preordered the Evo LTE and then signed another 2 year contract anyway. Sprint 3G speeds fell on their face in my area, but that was right before I got to see the 4G icon in my status bar! I now constantly have LTE in my area and the entire surrounding area! Couldn't be happier with Sprint! Pulling great speed tests on LTE while sitting on my bed!! Hit 36mbps in my carport while I stepped outside for a cigarette!! When I go to a store, in either nearby cities, I never lose LTE!! Great speeds everywhere, but even faster speeds at my house out in the sticks than I get in the city! Obviously more users in the city than at/near my house. Nothing to complain about though in my area!! Congrats to everyone who is getting LTE soon, and good luck to those still waiting.
Oh, FYI: My 3G speeds fell on their face before LTE lit up here. So to anyone who's seeing a recent decline in 3G speeds, maybe that's a good thing for you and LTE is coming very soon! Along with 4G LTE here, my 3G speeds are now about 2-4 times faster!!
EDIT: If you're looking at the map above, I'm about right in the middle of the big purple blob in Georgia
In looking closer at the map now. Other than Illinois, Georgia's coverage area is about the largest of any single spot that I'm seeing, viewing the linked map anyways!! Awesome!! Gotta love the Dirty South hahaha

And this was doing 70 on the 5 North. Right past Encinitas.

Yeah I'm from Vegas to and my 3g speeds are not that great. I can't even update apps thru the play store 75% of the time now. They just time out and give me an error.
Keep a look out for tmobile and AT&T/Verizon powerhouse

Could be still working on those LTE towers. That's about the speed I get in NY at few spots LTE is available in. T-Mobile Note II squeezes out almost 3x that speed on 3G. My record today was 17mpbs on 3G (well, T-Mobile calls it 4G, but it's not)
Don't worry....be happy...

I visited Vegas in December was surprised they did not have LTE. I had Layovers in DC (no LTE, got some coming in but not at the actual airport) and Chicago (half-working LTE). I would think Sprint would target major cities first but I was very disappointed, even the 3G was spotty in Vegas. Maybe one day our big little VA town will get LTE/4G. One day.

I completely agree!! I am not sure of Sprint's reasoning for lighting up LTE in less populated areas before big cities. Maybe it's for cost effectiveness, maybe it just fits their future plan for full coverage and this fits their build-out better, no clue. I can't complain though, having fast LTE at home in the sticks is awesome! Lol
