[Q] ROMs for XXKI4 - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Successfully rooted and installed CWM, just searching for a ROM that will work with my version of Ace (GT-S5830DTLKI4). Can't find any threads with people stating they've actually flashed ROMs to this phone. Currently on GB 2.3.4, but feel like my battery should be lasting much longer off the top (and I've read and done the obvious things to preserve it, ie. 3G off, auto sync off, WiFi off, lowered screen brightness. Installed CPU Tuner and created various profiles with (painfully) low and conservative power-demands but I still drop from 100% to 75% charge like nothing. Any success stories out there with this model and custom ROMs with good power management capabilities?

if you are looking for battery mostly then i might tell that cyanogenmod roms may not be good choice for you

Stability is most important. Battery life is a close second. Do you have this phone as well?

I have the same phone. I'm using stocklite v2 very happy with it. Installed an ICS theme and did some additional customizing using UOT Kitchen (google it). Works like a charm.
Don't forget to make a backup before installling any roms.

success
Using The End 3.0. Tried Stocklite (both vsns) but battery life didn't noticeably improve. Tweaked my settings on TheEnd and it's comparable to those ROMs now. Not sure how my phone model changed to the regular GT-S5830 though. No more "D" now. I guess that has something to do with the kernel changing?

[Q] Stock Rom but battery friendly?

hi just wanted to ask if there is a ROM there that is as close as the original ROM of the samsung galaxy s II in terms of apps and looks but is tweaked for better battery perfomance?
cause my dad bought a SGSII almost a week now, and we only get about 5-6 hrs of it using only it. already did about 4 charge cycles. (4 only cause most of the time the GSII is off, my dad's getting a hang it yet)
config:
- stock android 2.3.3
- 3g auto
- auto backlight (but we are inside a mall so the backlight is isn't that bright & have strong signal)
- auto sync is off
- background data is on
- haptic feedback is off
- audible selection is off
- fast dormancy is off
- power saving mode is on
- juice defender app in balanced setting
apps running:
-skype
-messenger
it drains a LOT even in standby a lot more when using it (browsing, not yet chatting). my hd2 is much more efficient knowing it is not a native android smartphone...
is there a tweaked battery efficient rom there that is as close or at least still looks as the stock?
You can do three things,
1- Install Better Battery Stats and see under 'Partial Wakelocks' to see whats running on background.
2- Stay on Stock ROM and flash a kernel which allows Voltage tweaks and install SetCPU and Undervolt CPU. Ninphetamine 2.1.3 is such a kernel.
3- If thats too complicated for you, then flash an Undervolted kernel, like SpeedMod.
I won't advise you to change to a Custom ROM for battery backup betterment. But doing the above processes will certainly save some.
Regards.

thanks for the quick reply, so custom kernels work with the stock rom...i thought it won't. i'm not that familiar yet with native androids cause in HD2 most of the undervolted kernels there are already built in the roms so i don't change it that much now with the NAND builds....but anyway, i'll try for the mean time # 1 & 3....i'm not that into that #2 tweaks yet in a phone that is not really mine....
It is proven that Stock ROM's with custom Kernels have sweet battery life. As with Stock ROM's they haven't tweaked anything, it's just stock and you flash what YOU want, whereas a custom ROM you're getting things you dont infact need.
I keep going back and forth from Custom ROM's to Stock ROM's.
Hi
I would also recommend looking at SicOpat's ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183774)
This is essentially a stock, rooted ROM with a custom kernel and I find it exceptionally good.
The other thing I would recommend then is to install Titanium Backup and freeze/uninstall a lot of the Samsung apps - WiFi Sharing, software update, *hub stuff. Removing these has a very positive impact on battery life.
Hope this helps.
-Barry
I have also been troubleshooting poor battery life on my phone. I used to lose 10-15% an hour just idling. I reflashed Stock KH3 with the KH3 CF-ROOT kernel and reinstalled a few things (twitter, yahoo messenger, google voice, and some apps that don't sync data). Currently I had 18hrs now with 60% left. MUCH better. A lot of the time the phone was idle but I did listen to music, play some games, and browse the internet/chat, use wifi a bit. Phone only lost like 4-6% overnight. (sorry I don't have hard figures but I didn't document any of it on paper). I'm trying to find out what was killing my battery so I am installing things little by little but I would definitely recommend stock KH3. Seems great so far.
I think your problem lies with the wifi-sharing battery bug. I hear this is updated in newer roms. This was the biggest battery hog on my phone, but after noticing it, my battery life is excellent now.
When Wifi is turned on/off this erroneous process starts in the background called "Wifi-Sharing". It hides and drains your battery at a VERY fast rate. The remedy is simply to "Force Stop" this process after you use Wifi.
Let us know if that helps.
You could root the phone and install Titanium to freeze this process permanently.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
sorry for the wrong forum i got messed up in opening a lot of samsung galaxy sII threads....
i dont see the "wifi sharing" in my dad's GSII when we used it. and as with kies, i think JKG2 firmware is the latest, so i assume that the wifi sharing bug has been fixed there, yes?
i know it would consume a lot since the GSII has a big "engine" but i didn't expect it to eat a lot even on standby with only YM and SKype messengers running in the background.
i'm still observing it. i'm still running stock.
EDIT: i just used wifi to download an app then when look for running apps, i saw "wifi-sharing" is running but i didn't even turned it on
i just flashed Speedmod T38 kernel (it seemed less complicated to use ) now observing if my dad's SGSII gets better

New user - surprised at poor battery life - help?

I'm a new Galaxy S II (and new Android) user, and am a bit disappointed in the battery life of my new phone. It was running down extremely quickly yesterday, only lasting about 12 hours with relatively normal use (sending half a dozen texts, downloading 2 apps, checking Facebook and Twitter once an hour or so for a couple of minutes throughout the day). I allowed the phone to discharge completely and charged it fully last night, but this morning nothing seems to have improved. I burned up 10% of the battery in half an hour sending 2 texts, checking my emails, Facebook and Twitter and downloading and trying out a couple of apps.
I'm anxious to know if there's a bit of a burn-in time with the battery on this thing - does it get better after a few charges? I see a lot of people saying they can have the phone on for a few days in some cases, but that's definitely not my experience thus far.
I've installed JuiceDefender (balanced profile), AutoKiller Memory and Advanced Task Killer to try to sort things out but none of them seem to having too much effect and to be quite honest I'd rather not have to compromise my experience by running a number of apps like this to try to extend my battery life at all (nor do I want to have to turn the brightness right down to an unusable level, or set black wallpapers for example).
Does anyone have any real advice on this? I'm starting to think that switching ROMs might be worthwhile? I see that the leaked 2.3.4 ROM seems to have better battery life - is this correct? I'm a bit reluctant to switch to any other unofficial ROMs as there are so many I wouldn't know where to start. It seems they all make a lot of changes but I'd want to keep as close to the stock feel as possible, just with better battery life.
no one uses stock roms/kernels nowadays. u should flash a custom rom or kernel since they provided optimizations to batt life.

It is argued that task killers and memory killers will only make the problem worse. Juice Defender might be useful if you are using it for scheduling sync and turning WI-FI off when the screen is off, but this feature is only present in the Ultimate edition and you can turn off sync and WI-FI manually if you want. Also beware of rogue apps which are syncing all the time. It is normally the main reason of poor battery life.
Other reason, is that whereas powerful tech specs for phones were rapidly developed, battery technology didn't followed the pace. Our simply batteries cannot cope with our beasts.
Also, there is a thing that it's called "new phone battery blues" which is described as poor battery life due to excessive use of a new powerful toy. After you use your phone normally, for the purposes that normally people use a phone, your battery life will became better.
That said, personally I have a spare battery and a spare charger, and when the battery being used is low, I replace it with the charged one. Sometimes it is necessary, sometimes not.

They also have a tendency to look very tacky I think though. I think Samsung's skin and widgets are pretty nice and don't care too much for the mods I see in the screens of most ROMs. I'm really looking for something very similar to stock, except with better battery life if there are any suggestions? That's why I was thinking of just jumping to the leaked 2.3.4 if it had any noticeable impact on battery life...
Try using better battery stats, link in my sig, to see if you have any wakelocks, the thread has a good howto on using it.
The biggest thing that uses the battery on this phone is the screen, you will get between 4 and 6 hours of screen on time depending on usage and screen brightness.

Fair point - not all of the roms are everyone's cup of tea. My advice, as a starting point is to flash the stock XXKH3 variant for your area, and then flash a custom kernel, such as Ninphetamine's or Hardcore's Speedmod. This will greatly help with battery life, and also give you the ability (via root access) to use Titanium Backup to freeze apps and services you're not using, which is often the major cause of battery drain through 'wakelocks'; apps that prevent your phone from entering Deep Sleep, or continuously wake it up.
Update to the latest version in your area, uninstall those task killers and whatnot or do a factory reset, install the apps that you are going to use normally like facebook twitter and install better battery stats, decrease brightness to your most tolerable level.
use the phone normally and when the battery is low, use the tool provided in android to check if your phone is sleeping when the screen is OFF, if you are having wakelocks, then use better battery stats to find which apps are causing the wake locks.
No need to install battery management apps, or task killers or memory optimization apps (or as custom rom as yet), that would only compound you problem which may be a very small one to begin with
Thanks for the help so far guys. I've installed XXKH3 and flashed hardcore's Speedmod kernel, and am just getting things set back up the way I like them again. I'm going to uninstall the battery saving apps for now and see how the battery lasts the next couple days.
I'll install Better Battery Stats and keep an eye on any wakelocks too.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction - it was all very simple and quick to get set up; the sheer number of kernels, ROMs, etc. is all a little overwhelming to me right now, being new to Android!

there are other tweaks with custom roms that aren't found in the stock rom (which provides better functionality).
btw, i also suggest u use setcpu to underclock your device to save more batt.

wow, good for you
I used HTC Desire before this device, and the roms on there actually hindered battery life, even with all the fancy underclocking, so I am betting, without even attempting to brick my phone, that they are just as overhyped on this phone too.
I get two to three days out of my phone, using it as a PHONE. I can send and receive emails and texts all day, along with phone calls and the occasional browsing and still get at least two days before it dies. I turn off data when I dont want it and stick it in 2G mode and it dares me to kill the battery.
Just let usage settle down and it's fine

As far as undervolting -25 to -50mv is a safe first bet.

That is wrong. I used to have a UGKG2 ROM and since I upgraded to XXKH3, the battery is MUCH better while the GPS pinpoints in less than 3 seconds with a 5meters accuracy.

Battery problems i9100

I am running KL1 rom with a KK5 rooted kernel.
I get about 1 day and a few hours on a full charge with 3g and h+ network activated, some wifi usage but not much.
My problem is that i get between 29-40% usage of battery on android os.
Is that normal?
Is my battery life normal for what i do with the phone?
I turn off what i don't need and what i don't use gps, wifi etc (except for the data connection).
PS: i know it's a smart phone)
Ps2: i have done a battery calibration, this beeing the result after the calibration.

Sure it's ok...
U have a normal up to good battery life so no stress.
The question because adnroid os:
It just says that u didn't use ur phone soooo much.
People who using phone a lot more often (surfing, playing and so on) have this or more percent on Display.
So it's just and kind of relation: If u use one thin less and other is getting higher....
CHEERS
To cover this quickly, I'll break it down into three points:
1) you're getting pretty decent battery life; could be better, but a lot of people are getting a lot worse. If you want, PM me and I'll run you through how you can get the most out of your battery - I won't cover it here because it'd be O/T (I think).
2) the Android OS battery issue is well documented here, if you'd used the search tool (which, by the way, has just been improved greatly), you'd have seen the plethora of posts relating to said topic. For now, don't worry about it, there's really nothing you can do.
3) the Galaxy S II uses the MAX17042 fuel gauge, and doesn't need calibration. The best you can do is wipe your battery stats every few months (drain battery completely, plug into charger but do not turn on - allow to fully charge, then boot into recovery mode, go to advanced, and select the 'wipe battery stats' option).
Remember, always use the search tool

Doesn't matter. Battery life is dependent on literally hundreds of factors, your ROM and kernel don't play the largest part in that. Takeaway note: don't go flashing different ROMs and kernels with the promise of better batter life - yes, some kernels and ROMs might go a bit better than others, but it comes down to a variety of factors including usage environment, usage intensity, installed apps and respective services, etc. etc. etc.

[Q] Phone Radio eating processor time on all custom firmware.

Hi,
New to playing around with custom firmware on my Galaxy 5 player (yp-g70 US)
I have tried the pacman version and slimbean so far.
They all look much better than the default gingerbread stock rom configuration.
I would love to use one of the custom firmwares but have reverted back to Gingerbread because I have found on any of the custom built firmwares I find here that the battery life is less running custom firmware. This is wth ALL settings that could use battery power turned off, no wireless tried airplane mode etc.. (Disabled all services) I have found from GSAM batter monitor that there is a type of service listed as Phone Radio and under any custom firmware I have tried here it always lists as using most of the power if my player just sits in a deep sleep state. (after 48 hours idle 98% of the CPU use says Phone Radio)
This Phone Radio is NOT present in Gingerbread at least its not even on the list of apps consuming battery power, I even found some type of zip install that I used clockwork mod to run that supposedly gets rid of the phone radio from android/data or something like that. (And I recall verifying this was gone in the file manager)
Is there any way to really kill off this Phone Radio thing? Why is it even present in the custom firmware for the 5.0 Player?
Normally in Gingerbread if I let the player sit in deep sleep mode only like 1% will drop over 24 hours. With custom firmware it seems to be like 5+ percent.
Thanks to any one who can point me in the right direction. I searched this forum first for any threads with Phone Radio in them with no results.
Thanks

The phone radio is a false positive: there's no radio in the device, so there's nothing to worry about. Battery life will decrease on any custom firmware, particularly if you're jumping from Gingerbread to ICS or JB. Personally, I've found running CM 10.2 builds on my 5.0, that I'm able to get around 2 days of light usage (I turn it off at night).

Ahh, ok. I was hoping there was something to that.. Yeah I figured there was something to it.
I was also going to try comparing Slimbean with none of the extra Google apps installed and freezing / disabling as many services as I can to see if I can make it close to Gingerbread..
Thanks!

I don't think freezing services will help much. The battery drain that you're seeing is more a result of the way the 4.x code runs, not so much the services and software. For the 4.x improvements, you're gonna have to give a little to get a little. Unfortunately, it seems that we can't have our cake and eat it too!

Yep you are correct. I spent awhile disabling everything that was not essential for my use. Made no difference with the extra drain. Was going to experiment with kernels, but I suppose it is just a small trade off I will live with.

Battery drains in cm11 + galaxy-s2 - tried all tips

I installed cm11 on my s2 a while ago using the installer and since then im trying to figure out the reason for the huge battery drain. Cm works great but it drains the battery in an average rate of 19% per hour (a special app did the math, and i can clearly see for myself ). I dont do anything more than music, surfing and whatsapp. Android stats usually say the screen is the no1 battery drainer. Android os second.
I searched the internet and tried every possible tip there was. IMO the only thing I hadn't tried is flashing different modem and different kernel (didn't find good guides for it and was afraid to brick the device)
What I have tried:
1. Flashed neatrom just to compare. A little improvement but still not like old days and of its not a good performance like cm.
2. Went back to cm through recovery backup and Used battery stats, taking permissions away from every app with a redundant wake/cpu lock.
3. Got new battery, assuming the problem may have to do with an old battery (bought the device 2yrs ago)
4. Calibrated battery both with the app and also using the manual trick (chrage while phone off, take batter out, wait five mins and put back in).
5. Tried different governors.
Might be forgetting other things. Nothing works!
What can I do? I really wanna use cm and not get lost flashing less good roms.
Thanks
This device uses an old Exynos SoC optimized for Android 4.1, In new versions is normal battery performance loss because there is more consumption of resources
It also warms up and all.... You recommend flashing older version of cm?

Yes, only if you really need more battery life. I have a Galaxy S Advance, who died in the 4.1, Battery life in 4.4(CM) is 30% lower than the official 4.1.
