[Q] Adding Widget to WidgetLocker FC's, rooted, snowballed - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Hi guys,
As stated in the title, have a rooted snowballed NT on 1.4.0. I installed widget locker and all is fine until, well, I try to add a widget. As soon as I hit "Widget" after a long press to the options screen, I get a force-close. anyone have any thoughts or a possible solution?
Thanks,
Dan

I know this isn't really a solution to your issue, but is there a reason you are still running Snowball mod? The developer took her NT back at least a month ago, and it is not being maintained. Now that CM7 is available, though it alpha, it is very stable and has far fewer incompatibility issues.
Again, I know this doesn't directly solve your issue, but moving to CM7 might be better for you in the long run.

I like snowball. It's stable, fast, and netflix works. I put my tablet up under my monitor and watch movies at work. I have very few problems with it except the occasional white menu and this weird widgetlocker issue; most fc's I've found can be solved by dropping the app into /system instead of /data, just not this time.
CM7 is great but still Alpha. I actually had it on here for a few, but but until they get hardware acceleration working on video I'd rather have working netflix and a stock lock screen than CM7 and no netflix.

[Q] A lot of issues with the Galaxy Tab, need some help please

Hi,
So I just recently got the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. I am familiar with Android and I know what I'm doing (or so I think lol) but some things just aren't working and I don't know if it's me or software limitation. Regardless I'm hoping someone can shedd some light on these...
1. The market is lacking a LOT of applications that are available on phones. Is that right? I thought it would just scale for the most part....I can't even find the official Facebook app on the market. Am I looking in the wrong place or something? Hulu? Netflix??
1a. Some applications that I sideload (mainly widgets) like typoclock or something of that sort....install, but when I go to add the widget it is not there, as if never installed. Even when I try to reinstall it, it says that it will replace the old one so i know for a fact that it installs, but the widgets aren't available, and they arent listed in the installed apps drawer either.
2. It seems kind of sluggish...and I really haven't installed much, even from a cold boot...it's kinda laggy, not as quick as I have seen on some review videos. Quadrant scores around 1400-1500. I Rooted it, installed the latest SunBurst ROM and overclocked to 1.4Ghz and it's still laggy often despite nearing 3000 on quadrant now.
3. So I couldn't get any Netflix apk to work on it stock, so once I rooted, installed Sunburst ROM it came installed with a Netflix app, but I don't think it's official since the icon is orange and has a little android on it. Needless to say THAT app doesn't work and CAN'T be installed (I figure it's cooked onto the ROM) regardless I found a Netflix apk that install and replaces it, and works...but after one day it reverts back to the old netflix and doesn't work. So pretty much everytime I want to use Netflix I have to reinstall and overwrite with the new Netflix apk I found...it's annoying. (and the search function doesn't work on that Netflix either)
I know it's a lot to rant about and a lot of issues, and I love the tab and honeycomb, but I can't believe these issues still persist. I hope someone can help me with one/all of these and I will be forever grateful.
Thanks, hope someone can help...
1a. Try a restart after you install a widget. It seems that if the widget is not made for HC, it doesn't appear before you restart.
i tried rebooting but that didn't help any unfortunately...
There's a netflix 1.3 APK somewhere that sideloads perfectly. I haven't tried it with Touchwiz yet - I haven't even touched Touchwiz.
Try stock ROM first. Your ROM might have broken something. I know Bonsai completely broke USB storage support as an example, and Starburst claims to be the "most complete and fastest Touchwiz experience" which means it's going to have missing and broken things. Any ROM dev making claims like that is compensating for something. The "hacked-icon" Netflix app is an obvious sign they went a LITTLE too far.
Netflix sideload works perfectly on my Tab. Unrooted. TouchWiz. Stock.
i tried netflix fix on starburst rom, it did work but reverted back to fcs after a reboot. i switched to bonsai 3, netflix seems to be working fine even after a reboot.
2. It seems kind of sluggish...
The default launcher is a bit sluggish, it is a honeycomb issue. For me I have seen after a "reboot", the tab does take a couple of minutes to "settle", then it is smooth for me, but if you have lot of widgets on your homescreens it will be sluggish, my experience in any case.
thanks to all you guys for all the replies.
As far as the Netflix, I know I do have the correct apk I think the issue is that it isn't playing nice with the one that is baked into the rom. I guess I will have to install another rom.
However I haven't heard anything on the apps, is that right? There's no Facebook? Anyoneelse having issues with Widgets not appearing?
For Facebook search for an app in the market called 'Friend Me'
Looks great and works great =)
for getting rid of sluggishness try this launcher: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188701

Thanks! Good call, app looks great!
@js931,I'll give that launcher a try and see how it goes.
I understand and feel for you on your problems. My 3rd (and final) Galaxy Tab is on the way to me from Amazon.com. I also have an Asus Transformer on the way as well and the device that gives me the least amount of problems is the device I plan to keep. I want to like the Tab but I don't have high hopes since I'm about to be on my 3rd device. The 2nd one worked perfectly after Touchwiz for a while - even fixed issues I was having such as the typing lag - but the issues I had with the first one (screen and/or Wifi doesn't respond after bringing the device out of sleep) resurfaced a few days ago. The 2nd Tab also had something loose on the inside as it produces a loud rattling noise whenever it vibrates. While that is easily cured by turning off the vibration, I paid $600 for this device and I expect it to be near-perfect. So any little issue I have with this 3rd Tab means it's going back for a refund and I'll keep the Transformer... assuming it behaves like it should, lol.
At any rate, good luck with your issues. The Tab is a beautiful device but seems to be problematic... at least that's my experience with it.

Who else is running cm7?

How are you liking it? Its pretty bug free for me, aside from Facebook force closing.

I flashed it and it works but clockworkmod does not work .. get andn error and failed boot.. Stuck on what to do to fix it.
Anyone benchmark it at all? Like browser tests especially because that is where WebOS was infuriating.
Sunspider and Browsermark primarily. Also would be amazingly interested in seeing page load tests of a WebOS Touchpad next to a CM7 touchpad, if anyone has two of these things.

For what it's worth, touchstone won't charge
it puts it in dock mode, it trips the charger icon so you think it's charging, but it won't actually charge
kinda stinks, that's a major major bug to me
but I guess that's why it's called an Alpha build

Loving it. Hadn't touched my TP for months and had no hesitation to flash the alpha. I'd say for an alpha it is way ahead of most alphas. I'd almost call it a beta, but I guess some of the bugs, (like the wifi losing connection once in a while) are too big to be beta.

I read you can just grab maps and google apps that wont show up in the market from your phone and move them over. Just grab the .apks off the internet if you want. I just transferred over my TI Backup file and am reinstalling all the apps I want now, g maps is working for me.
I installed last night and so far it's great. The performance is great, no lags, all the apps I need\want have installed without any problems. The only issue I've had so is the battery drain makes it unresponsive so I had to power + home until it rebooted.
I got it loaded but the moboot option and recovery options did not work...so I could not boot back into webos. So I just flashed it back to Webos with the doctor. I think I will give it a little more time for the bugs to get hammered out.
Absolutely LOVE it. Super slick and fantastic for an Alpha build. 90% of the things i want for the tablet install and work without a hitch.
One nice surprise, my WebOS portion of my Touchpad was NOT wiped out in the installation. I booted into WebOS earlier, and to my surprise, everything was intact and exactly how it was left pre-CM7 install. I've been playing with it all day, and i must say, battery life has been great thus far. Tablet is showing almost 7hrs of use (display ON for about 5hrs) and still has 40% battery left!
love it. But it wiped everyhig on my webos. So now I have to figure out how to put my pictures and videos back
Overall I haven't had any problems. Can't wait for future updates
No issues except for wifi issues.
I'm running CM7, and I think it runs really well for an alpha release. I've had minimal problems and most problems are easily corrected and there are some workarounds appearing already.
Flashed CM7 yesterday. Seems more like a Beta than a Alpha build. I tried most of my apps and they work without issue. CM7 runs very well with minor hiccups. Some things I did after seeing others have issues
1-Wifi sleep policy set to never
2-Use Setcpu to OC to 1.5 and undervolt at 384 and I have no issues with the device waking up
3-Use the app "Myappsharer" to send the APKs from my Thunderbolt to the tablet and they install with no issues
4-Before I flashed CM7 I made a copy of everything on the TouchPad to my laptop in case it got wiped out.
This was my first time trying WebOs the past few weeks and I kind of liked it. I do not think I will be going back to it though. I definitely prefer the customization of Android.
I am really liking CM7. I installed it this evening and it seems to be chugging along. I was able to install Order & Chaos on it, but I had to change the build.prop in order to get it to run. It played better than I would have thought, for an Alpha version of the OS. I am going to try and overclock it to see if that smooths out the game.

I love it, my only thing is dead screen on wake up. It wakes up fine but it's unresponsive. I have to click the power button three times to get it to work.
384 & 14xx

[Q] Just How Reliable is CM7?

Throughout the forums there seem to be fairly conflicting reports about CM7 for the Touchpad, it crashes a lot, it mostly works, lots of apps don't work, most common apps do work.
Basically, how reliable is CM7?
I don't use too many apps, so for me it would mainly be for:
- Browser
- Gmail
- Google Docs
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Spotify
- Swiftkey (does the tablet version work?)
Oh, and the official Touchpad Bluetooth Keyboard.
Would I get a good experience out of the current build?
Some answers after 5 days using CM:
-in my case, no SOD, but it seems to vary
- dolphin hd (browser) works nicely
- SwiftKey x tablet also good
- 2 random reboots in 5 days
- facebook ok if you use fake gps to Set up your location (otherwise it crashes)

I have the official hp touchpad keyboard. It works really well once you get it paired. When it ask for the code on the tp put in 0000 then hit ok. As soon as your done hit 0000 on the the keyboard then hit enter. You have to do this really fast while the tp is running the ring on the screen getting ready to pair it. Good luck

One of the most stable "alphas" I've seen, more of a beta. Running Alpha2, a couple times a day I might have to cycle Airplane mode to get wifi back. This seems more frequent if hopping multiple APs. A couple apps you listed have issues;
- Google Docs - current version FCs, had to sideload old version 1.0.4r (search the forum, there are discussions on this)
- Facebook - FCs unless you run a fake gps app first
This morning I had to power cycle it to get touchscreen back, but even so I feel no urge to reboot into WebOS.

The Google Docs App force closed on me today when i downloaded/installed it.
Camera doesnt seem to work, it also force closes.
Had a few SODth but saw a thread earlier today about installing an ap (softlocker) and its helped thus far.
No random reboots for me. Ive been running CM7 alpha2 since last Thurs
Everything except wifi is fairly reliable. I only have secured networks, so wifi constantly crashes for me. I'd wait for the next release if it was important to you.

As for me,
1. Market sometimes FC when installing (not a big deal)
2. Wifi drops occasionally and need manual reconnecting
3. Battery drain during sleep, at the rate of around 2 to 3% per hour
4. Scrolling a bit jerky for a dual core 1.5GHz device
5. Facebook FC without FakeGPS
Otherwise everything is working so far. But then I haven't tested everything.

I only got mine last night and got CM7 loaded within minutes of opening it. I had some problems with wireless until I switched mine to channel 6 from channel 11. It ran solid as a rock for a few hours until I shut it down for the night.
Renders all my various size and density photos (all JPG) quickly and very crisply.
Netflix ran good.
Youtube was okay.
My mp4s encoded for my Nook Color were all messed up (played but video was whacky, striped accross the screen, these play great on webOS)
Plays my MP3 without issue (need to move my album art over from my Nook Color)
Quadrant scores are pretty low (low 2000's) only due to the FPS graphics not being optimized (GPU acceleration probably is not finished.)

Browser is meh. But 3rd party Opera is fantastic. Nearly as smooth as safari on ipad.
Gmail is fantastic.
Google Docs is great.
Facebook sucks if you don't install a fakegps app or the older 1.5.2 apk that didn't need GPS.
Twitter's great..
Thats all I know. But I do know that the camera doesn't work (on EITHER of my CM Touchpads) and that each of mine have also had a random shutdown and refused to wake up (without me long pressing the power/home buttons repeatedly)... but that being said... very sweet stable for an Alpha. In fact, I think it's more stable than my phone, also on CM. And more importantly, it's better than WebOS if only for the app selection.
Compared to web os its 100% better some bugs but I haven't booted into web os since the first alpha.

have SOD's despite the fact that i've tried every work around i could find... actually the last one was probably due to the fact that the work around drained the battery... between that and the wifi i've pretty much given up on it until a more stable for me release. it is in very good shape though. i liked having a netflix tablet for a bit. wish HP had made it 16:9 but oh well.
anyway since you can dual boot i really dont' see any reason for people not to put it on there. Pulse newsreader is so damn cool on a tablet

Just installed yesterday and very impressed for an alpha build. Only get FCs for market and Facebook but realised that i need the fake gps. Did have to reboot the first time as apps wouldn't install saying i had no space. On the whole i like it and especially adobe reader as its miles more quicker and better quality than the WebOS version. But i do miss the WebOS interface so i can see what apps i'm running and throwing the cards away to close the app.

ICS First Impressions

Looks great so far. The Home launcher is much more responsive so I can do away with ADW EX for now.
Kind of wish there were more small apps, but browser, calculator and IR remote are great choices for those and they work terrifically.

Uninstall from settings and go in as market... That fixed it for me...
The tablet was initially very laggy after the update but a reboot seemed to fix things, with the exception of the notification menu. It stutters very noticeably and is extremely annoying. Many apps also don't rotate properly anymore.
Still better than Honeycomb despiute those drawbacks.

DAMN YOU SONY!!!
Things i hate:
- this annoying wifi keepalive issue is still there!!! there is no way to keep wifi active during standby -.- damned why don't they let us users the choice... there IS an option to set the standby behavior but its still completely useless....
- sometimes there are widget issues (doesn't matter if 3rd party or preinstalled) that widgets change into editor mode when just pressing a button like update... changing screen ang going back will fix this temporarily... had this 2 times now...
- auto brigtness issue still not resolved... in low light the screen is MUCH too dark and when changing from full brightess to automatic it keeps full for a while and then goes down to min
- homescreen lag is still too much in portrait
- forced portrait is still not changable (damn i'm righthanded and want to hold it on the ROUND side when portrait is forced!!!!)
- the new ICS launcher... Sonys previous own launcher had a better overview with the sorting possibilities but ok we can have folders now...
- still no thumb keyboard -.-
things i like:
- media from SD card is now directly available and nut just for transfer... finally i have enough memory also without root and mounting stuff ^^
- the new mini-apps are nice but there is still much potential for more apps
- the new version of "Favorites" App is very nice animated and faster
- ICS possibility to deactivate system apps that are not removable... finally i get this google music player away
- a few other ICS related things...
ALL IN ALL this update is a big disappointement... they updated to ICS, integrated one or thwo new features and that's it??? all the big issues are still there since more than six months!!!!!
I have personally had a fantastic experience with the ICS update. Everything seems faster across the board. Menus more responsive, faster browser, better keyboard response/feedback. I also like the ICS look and feel and the mini apps. Really happy with the update so far.
I used to be able to DL directly to my SD Card, and using ES File Manager to move files around. Now it refuses to do so. Anyone else having this issue? If not, what file manager are you using?
My tablet seems to have gone really slow after the ICS update.
I tried a factory restore to ensure that I didnt have too many things installed and decided to start afresh. Didnt help. The tablet is still very slow. While the touch is responsive and I like the features of ICS like slide to dismiss, reading files directly from SD card etc, I definitely donot like the amount of lag I am noticing.
All my apps seem to be really really slow.
My Honeycomb seemed to be far more faster irrespective of all the issues that it had.
Any suggestions anyone?? I am on non rooted US version 16Gb Wifi.

The problem with that app from the market is that it keeps the device awake when you turn off the screen, and it eats through the battery.
On the Android phones I've used (Legend, Desire, Arc S), the WiFi remained connected, but the phone also went to sleep, battery drain was minimal.
This is the behaviour we were expecting to see in the ICS update, but unfortunately it hasn't been fixed...
Hey, i have a 3g tablet, because that i have to wait for upgrading.

CM10.1 Official ROM review

The CyanogenMod team has recently created CM10.1 nightlies for the Nook Tablet. Let's take a look at it.
At first sight it looks pretty good, and looks very clean (ditto). There is no gapps preinstalled (also ditto), so you need to flash the latest gapps ROM. This is official CM10.1, so nothing has been removed. After flashing gapps, you have to go through a brief setup process, and you're ready to go. This is a nightly build, but if reflashing a ROM every single day and losing all of your data is what disturbs you, think again; CM10/10.1 has a built-in updater tool, which is available in Settings<About tablet<CyanogenMod updates. I flashed this ROM yesterday, and today there was a new nightly (ditto), and I went into the updater, flashed the new update, and it simply was like an android upgrade when it booted after flashing the ROM from the tool. NOTE: To use the tool, you need CWM/TWRP. This does not work with other recoveries. For me, I don't even know why they call this ROM nightly. It is running perfectly stable for me. If you are on unofficial CM10, and want 4.2, but are disturbed by the alpha CM10.1s, you might want to check this out because for me, under my terms, it should at least be deemed RC. Already. If you are running another kind of CM10.1 (unofficial), you might also want to check this out because it is official, after all. If you are already running some other kind of 4.2 which you are happy with (like PA or PAC-man), you may or may not want to check this out. The new interface does have the pie launcher, due to CMs recent decision to include it, so if you are running PA simply for that, you might want to check this out.
UPDATE: Looks like the CM team has build a new RC2 at this point (which I am running of course). It eliminates basically all of the bugs I described earlier, and is much more stable than other 4.2.2 ROMs I have looked at (I have not looked at Xylon, Liquid, Carbon, or Slim however) (I have looked at PAC and Ubuntu) (Tried to flash Slim once but failed something about /tmp/sideload.zip, I reset to factory). The only problem I have had with it is that initially the Play Store didn't work (same with 20130518 nightly). I think it was the fact that I dirty reflash ROM updates. Wiping fixed it. Also, I occasionally see freezes or delays. But still, more stable than others, and I am in high anticipation for stable
Recommendations: If you are on anything, check this ROM out. Flash it. Just flash it already. It's awesome. I recommend this ROM over anything xD.
The biggest problem is battery drain too fast. Because Nook Tablet is not compatible with standard Android hardware and it's eBook Reader, I always wish it's better battery life for using every day as eReader Plus with fully Android features

Does anyone know how I could go about solving the deep sleep issue? I just need the alarm clock to work everything else I like. They have done a great job.

Have you tried a different clock app? Or, changed governor settings? What happens if you use setcpu (app from play store) and forced min to say 200. What make you think it's a deep sleep issue? Are you using better battery stats app to see what's happening?
Or better yet, what have/haven't you tried?

At first sight it looks pretty good, and looks very clean (ditto). There is no gapps preinstalled (also ditto),...

Please forgive me, but I have to ask before it drives me nut; What are you "ditto"-ing? Is this in reply to something else that I've missed? Sorry to ask, but I find myself completely fixated on those "dittos". Yeah, crazy, (and osessive!) I know, but I'd hate to lose out on some vital info around the beloved NT!

This ROM MAY NOT have the problem of WIFI radio staying ON during sleep.
My particular NT has problems using CPUtuner ( a way to trigger to turn off WIFI when the screen goes out, or if the NT goes to sleep): CPUTuner disables the radio, but leaves WIFI set as ON, like the built-in wifi sleep management.
I now use AutomateIT, which turns WIFI off, rather than turning off the radio. This works well for me. So then deep sleep works.
The problem with this, as I just got reminded, is that anything downloading (with the browser, or like magazines in Zinio... STOP or FAIL when the screen goes out.)
I just put on 041613 nightly, and the Nook disconnects from the AP when it sleeps.
I'll have to see about power usage, but it looks good. (nope, lost 10-12% overnight.... back to turning WIFI off with a service)
This ROM also seems to default to landscape. Mine has 0 degree as Landscape. 'Power widget' auto-orientation off/on is not working for me.
I had to run Fix Permissions and/or cache format in CWM 6.0.3 (what I already had loaded. I did not load the recovery in the first post. I don't know what version it is) to fix a mediascanner error at boot with this ROM.
Zinio won't connect to it's servers with this ROM.
WPA2 connections sometimes fail and need retries to get connected.
The good is that this ROM feels great, so I'm sticking with it. Most responsive I've used so far (although 'bout the same as 2/6 AOSP ROM).
Started with CM7, then updated to demetris_I's CM10 build (huge thanks for a great product) then did the CM Update from my table this morning 04/19 nightly and it is is smooth and fast. Huge props to CM and everyone that made this a possibility.
I have a Pattern Lock set and when I either re-boot or power on, the lock screen get's skipped and it launches directly to the home screen with a Clock has stopped error. But if I then launch a program and come back to the home screen it locks and I have to enter my pattern. Any body else seeing this?
Is there a way to enable larger multitasking images like in the sgt7 ROMs? And tablet ui only in landscape?

I have, honestly. I'm seeing problems now. However, I'm still satisfied, especially because I use WidgetLocker anyway, but I used to use pattern lock and had the same problem. Hopefully fixed by M4 or M5 or something.

Many thanks. Actually installed a newer nightly, I think 4/24 directly via EMMC clearing cache/factory reset and it fixed the issue

I mean, it's stock CM. And basically no ROM has gapps.

My Nook Tablet 16GB is still on it's way so I haven't been able to do any rooting and flashing, just reading. Question, does CM 10.1 have microphone support so we can Skype and use Google Now?

All good. Just tested using my nook, which has 4/30 nightly loaded as of this morning and voice search works well as does Skype for voice, of course no video, since Nook doesn't have a camera
Just installed the Nook on Fire Showtime kernel on top of the official CM 10.1 ROM. It is AWESOME!!!

Ditto. I am running RC2 with 3.2 and loving it. I really should update Cm, but hate the pain.

Moving up to the official CM 10.1 wasn't painful at all. In fact, it was probably the most pain-free experience I've had with my NT
