I have had the 3vo since monday and on two occasions the screen became unresponsive. While stuck in that condition the 2nd time I noticed the bottom half of the screen was indeed responsive. i navigated that way until the issue disappeared on its own. I then became concerned enough to search out if anyone else was having similar issues. I ran across this while searching for the official htc forum. Basically the EVO 4G and the incredible had the SAME ISSUE.
http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/94/t/3264.aspx
I have searched htc's site and xda and haven't seen anyone else reporting the same issue on the 3vo. I then called htc support and of course they weren't "aware of the problem on any of those phones".
So I'm thinking of calling it a factory defect and returning the phone for a replacement. Anyone with more info to add?
Edit:
Found this as well.

I can also confirm this. Lasted about a minute. Noticed it after I plugged my headphones in.

It has happened twice to me while trying to search my concact list. I just backed out and opened people again and it worked fine.
What were you running when it was unresponsive?
I believe I was in the launcher. Also, phone was in my hands.
Had the happen 1st time ever tonight. And it was the same...the bottom half was responding and buttons but not the rest of the screen. Can't recall which apps I had open. No headphones though.

Uh oh...... I hope it's a small batch.
It has happened to me too a few time. Usually when i select kill all under task manager.
I've had it happen once or twice, I think both times I was opening a forum thread with lots of embedded images ie a show your screenshot thread.

Mine did it tonight for the first time. A reboot fixed it.

I have seen this as well a few times
The phone thinks that the notification menu is "dragged" down and it keeps you from tapping any icons or flipping through the screens.
To solve it without rebooting just pull down the notification menu and slide it back up and everything works fine again.
Definately a bug with Sense 3.0

DEFINITELY not what I saw. I was able to do everything except the top half of my screen was totally unresponsive.
It has randomly happened here too.
Ok i thought I was just crazy, but I have been having the same issue. It has gotten better and haven't had it happen in a while but It's a pain when it does.

You aren't able to click on any of the icons that the "pull down" notification menu would be blocking until you "repull" down the notification menu and slide it back up.
I was just offering how I was able to "workaround" the issue on my phone.
If this doesn't work for you, fine.. I was just trying to help with the experiences I have had.

Sorry. No animosity intended.
Same here..
Able to do everything except the top half of my screen was totally unresponsive.
And also the back button (capacitive button) is not bright enough as others (Home, Menu, Search).
Already sent to HTC for the screen replacement, but have to wait till next week because the screen no stock..
- Reboot the phone does fix the problem, but it will happen again & again..
- Already performed hard reset as requested by HTC cust service rep, but same thing happened within 24 hours, in clear system.
Unrooted EVO 3D..
I also experience touch screen problems, i just turn the screen off and back on and it works again for a short period of time.
My app drawer button is non-functional ish. The app drawer button doesn't always select in the green tone to show it's been activated. I know the screen recognizes it's being pressed because the full-screen weather animations stop once I press the screen but the rosie button doesn't... go. I tried resetting HTC Sense, no go. I don't know what's wrong.
Anyone else got this issue?

I've never had that happen. Are you using the stock HTC skin, or are you using one of the themed skins? Just curious on that. If you're not using the stock one, perhaps try switching back to the stock skin? A battery pull maybe? Sorry I don't have a better suggestion for you.

Stock skin, not temp rooted or overclocked or anything funky. It just started today too. I wish I didn't have such a unique problem! Grr. Thanks though man.

Well you can try rebooting the phone and removing the battery for a few seconds, but I'm going to assume you have done that already.
Second would probably be a hard reset, which I guarantee to fix your problem since it seems to be some sort of software hiccup.

EDIT : Get a drawing app and see if you can draw in the bottom left corner. If you can't, then you have a problem with the digitizer not registering in that area.

Okay I will try the drawing app, and yeah I've pulled the battery to no avail. I'll try the app, then just see if it works itself out.
EDIT: Drawing app worked fine, it's a Rosie issue. Hmm.
on that note
On the same note. Is there a way to change what is launched when you tap the button?

I don't believe that's possible without full root. It is definitely possible to remap the rosie buttons, but I don't think we can until we get S-off. (could be wrong, because there's a ton of talented devs here, but I dont think so)
Someone (literally just forgot who) is trying to repackage all of Rosie itself so it can be installed as an apk with a ton of mods, but again, I can't remember who.
Oh also, the button is now fully functional. Just kind of started working randomly, but oh well! That works for me.
Hello guys, it seems I am having issues with the multi touch function of the screen, when I play games and use the joystick it works fine until I press another button. Then it reverses back to the neutral position....
So basically.. it doesn't accept to inputs at the same time.
The same thing happens while texting, If I hold down the CAPS button while typing it will not capitalize what I type(as it should), I have to hit the caps after every letter.
This happens with both energy and xborders roms, and their respective kernels, when I reflash the kernel, it seems to fix the problem temporarily but then it breaks again...
I am at a loss??? what do u guys think?

Fixed it... apparently Go Launcher breaks my multi touch screen feature... wierd.. after all this troubleshooting all I had to do was unistall that
siigh..
maybe this will help someone else
Actually Go Locker or any lockscreen replacement causes problems with multi-touch feedback . Did you have that installed ?
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using xda premium
yea thats what I meant to say... Go locker was causing the problem... I switched to magic locker and it seemed ok for a while but then it started doing the same thing...
I wish there was a way to replace the sense ring without multi touch issues
Hell yea . I downloaded like 40 go locker themes . Come to find out all my games were broken . It took me soo long to figure out the problem . Oh well . Still waiting on ICS.

I can confirm this issue too.
I had widgetlocker installed forever. I had thought the phone was just a bit unresponsive until I loaded up zenonia 4 and the controls didn't work at all.
I found this thread and uninstalled widgetlocker. This fixed the issue right up. Still a bummer though.
Hi all,
When I charge my HP TP running CM9 nightly, a clock screen is displayed automatically. I note that after my screen time out period of five minutes, the screen does power off, however when I wake up in the morning the screen is on displaying the clock screen - I guess email or some other notifications turn the screen back on.
Basically, can I change the behaviour so that when I put the TP onto the Touchstone, nothing special happens and this clock isn't displayed? I have an app that switches the screen off when the case is closed, and essentially this charging behaviour is interfering with this. I don't want the TP clock blazing away lighting the screen up all night.
Thanks,
Andy
Wow some refuse to do any work on their own....
If you want to shut the screen down all you have to do is hit the power button and the screen shuts down
As far as the Desk Clock app... You simply go into app manager and clear the defaults for it

Thank you for your reply - unfortunately the option to clear defaults for the clock is greyed out.

I'm puzzled by your sarcasm - no, I can't figure this out by myself as I can't identify the configurable part of android that triggers this clock front end. I had Googled it but I can't find a suitable answer there either. Whilst I can shut the screen off with the power button, as per my original post when I wake up in the morning the screen has come back on.
Cheers!

Then you have something installed waking your TP that we have no way of troubleshooting without some type of log.... when you shut the screen down there is no reason for Android to turn it back on unless YOU have EXPLICITLY given an app YOU installed permission to do so. As far as the clock... when you set the TP on the Touchstone one of two things happens... a dialog box comes up with the apps that can by default be activated when placed on Touchstone OR YOU HAVE designated a default app to do this....
Now if YOU can't remember which app YOU ALLOWED to run then you have one of two choices.... go through all the apps in app manager clearing all defaults OR wipe all data and start from scratch and pay attention to what you press this time

Thank you for your reply, but unfortunately you are wrong.
I only have the clock app installed that triggers when the device docks - no other apps respond to this event, therefore when I dock the device I don't get presented with the option/choice, it just displays the clock as there is no alternative. I've found the best solution to be to install 'Screen Off ' from the market. This has an option to act on the dock event, and now when I put the device on the dock I get given the choice as to whether to show the clock or to power off the screen. This works pretty much perfectly, and without the clock showing the screen stays off, instead of coming back on randomly after I shut it off - therefore, I don't think that the clock was coming back on before due to notifications from apps/emails, but be cause the clock app itself was triggering - possibly when the device reaches full charge or something and temporarily disconnects from the dock or something, I don't know. In summary, you need more than one app installed that is coded to respond to the dock event, otherwise when you dock the device android just defaults to the dock event and powers the screen back on periodically. I have never explicitly enabled this behaviour, and without installing another app it seemingly cannot be changed or disabled.
I thank you for taking the time to reply to my post, but I think you should learn something from this thread - just because a problem may seem to be user error doesn't necessarily mean that it is - your post is completely wrong which is fine as I appreciate that you are just trying to help, but by getting all aggressive over it you've just ended up looking a little stupid. The forums should be all about helping people, not ridiculing them - hopefully this post will serve to help anyone out with a similar predicament.
Cheers.
Ignore cdzo72 - he's one of the most sarcastic members of this forum. He seems to have a hate on for anyone who has an issue with anything, and can't solve it for themselves. You get used to him, and ignoring him.
I'm glad you found your solution.
Thanks for posting that man, beginning to think it was just me. Guess every forum has one - hopefully if anyone else comes across this thread it might solve their problem too.

The clock app doesn't trigger itself. Mine charges all night and never turns back on. That said, it is almost impossible to move the pad while it's on the TS without charge disconnecting and reconnecting. And that will trigger the clock app. So, if you have the TS on an unstable surface that allows ir to be inadvertently "jiggled", that could cause the clock to turn back on.

Hey Man,
I don't know if it affects other devices to be honest. On my phone the clock app is configurable, but on my Cyanogenmod9 HP TP tablet it isn't something that you can change the behaviour of (if you tap the stock 'Clock' app it just locks the screen and displays a clock, you cant set any options like on my SGSII). I don't know if this is a feature of tablet OS'es in general, or just the CM iteration of Ice Cream Sandwich.
Either way, the 'Screen Off' app references working with a number of docks (blurb specifically references Sony ones) so I'd give it a shot and hopefully it will work for you.
I had that problem too, it was very annoying. I installed dock no op from the market and it finally stopped waking me up. That seems like the only option since cm9 doesn't let you set the dock behavior.
OK, I don't know what is happening to my phone but the notification pull down screen keeps opening on its own. It won't open all the way but just enough to cover the area where the clock is at the top of the screen. My phone was rooted, I was still running the stock tmobile rom when it started. The only changes from stock was that added google now. Once it started acting up I changed roms and the problem was still there. If anyone has some thoughts as to what could be causing it, any help will be appreciated.
Did you wipe? Also do you have an alternate lockscreen or notification apps?
Lol um...I'm pretty sure the answer to this is pretty obvious but I shall wait and see it's resolve.
I wiped everything but the SD card before installing the new rom. And no alternate notification or lock screen or anything.
