Download mode clicking - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Anyone ever go into download mode and notice that their phone is making a 'clicking' noise. Really the only way to describe it. If the phone isn't in download mode, no clicking when connected to the USB cable.

Yeah, I've heard it before as well. I just imagine it's tiny little Samsung elves laboring away inside the phone, making $#!t happen.

It's the hard drive.

I get it too, but usually after installing a rom while rebooting.

Thats just the loudspeaker given short spurts of electricity. Or sparks inside your phone that makes the battery explode, not sure.

Its the LTE radio trying to connect to the towers so your phone can boot up to 10X faster than 3G boot times.

It's the BEATS hardware giving you a little somtin-somtin while you wait.

Its the awesomeness of this phone banging against the glass trying to get free

This thread makes me warm and fuzzy inside.

This phone has a hard drive? I always wondered what that spin-up noise was.

I don't normally post just to post...but had to say I LOL'ed a couple times. Wonder which one of these is true?
Maybe ALL of them! YES!
Sat here and tried to come up with my own add on...but I can't match those.

141.6°F - "A New Record!" | What's the hottest battery temp you've seen?

So this week I've discovered a hidden feature on my Rezound: it doubles as a portable pocket burner. Not sure if that is too be expected (having read through the other battery threads, it seems that 120°F is typical eye-bulge territory), but if it happens again i'll probably start the replacement phone process.
This happened off charger, just playing a high quality graphics game for 20 minutes.
Just seems a bit high to me, but any further insight is welcome. (as a comparison i've read on the Galaxy Nexus forums that a few folks are getting ancy at around the 120°F mark as well).
Maybe the Rezound is just has a poor design in reference to heat dissipation? Maybe I have a defect? I can live with it, so long as I know its not that big of a deal. I'd like to avoid waking up next to a phone shaped melt hole on my night stand.
Did you try frying any bacon or eggs on the screen?
Phone would triple as a portable skillet! Lol

Udderly ridiculous.
That's 60 °c. That is way to hot for a phone. Hottest I have seen on my phone is 54°c 129°f

Hiyoooooo!
I haven't checked the hottest, but when I got up this morning it showed 38F and the screen kept fogging up.
I've never had a phone go past about 40°C. I haven't really pushed the rezound that hard yet, so I will try that later today.

It's defective, return it. I did and received my replacement and with hard use it hasn't gone above 105* whereas my last one would routinely get into the 130's

If I remember correctly, I was using the new Onlive app for the temp in my OP (but it gets north of 125°F commonly on normal games). If you (or anyone else reading this) have that app, would you mind running it for few minutes & reporting back? It wouldn't surprise me if it played a role in tipping the temp over the edge (Onlive is a magical service // magic = power).

^^ Nice. This is what we all need to know. Can you do something fancy / intensive w/ your replacement phone for a few minutes and see if you can get it into bacon mode again? (gaming or streaming w/ 4G enabled, etc).
If we can confirm that "hot phone" is somehow a hardware issue, its warranty time.

Have you S-Offed?

Just curious, since someone asked over in Q&A if S-On devices will still be supported, how many people are staying or not.
to me, the whole physically taking wires and jumping those pins is what turns me off to it.
i remember s-offing my inc, and just running that one click program...meh, if something like that comes along, i'll do it..but as for right now, i'm a bit weary of it
Yep, its a super easy, painless process. I have done it on 2 Rezounds so far, took me 2 tries on the first and I got it on the first on the second.
Yes, wasn't easy at first, just took patience & making sure the tiny pin connection actually got touched.
Do you still need to do the HTC dev unlock to get s off?

You have to be unlocked and rooted to do it, then once you s-off it will switch the bootloader back to locked.
Got it done. It wasn't nearly as hard as it was made out to be.
Did it Saturday night... Took me more time to back up my internal memory then anything. I had a spare SD card also.
Not yet.... waiting for a free block of time... perhaps this weekend
yup - took all of like 5 minutes - I used a paperclip wrapped with some electrical tape

Yeah, it's pretty generous to call it circuitry in this instance! I mean, it is, technically you're completing a circuit.
Anyway, 90% uptake is pretty solid!

It does seem sort of backwards though. Im not sure why they wouldnt put the kickstand the other way out of the box to begin with. But it works either way so its no biggie.

Actually it has 3 ways to use the kick stand. both landscape views and portrait.

Indeed. I tend to use it in portrait mode far more than either landscape view.

I think they designed it that way so you could adjust the volume while playing videos and hoping the phone is charged enough.
They should've just put both on the same side.
Does anybody think that over time the kickstand won't have that same snap to hold it in reverse landscape? I'm giving it a 50-50.

I figured that one out by accident fumbling with the phone

Slow wifi while holding/touching phone

Anyone notice a significant slowdown when touching or holding the phone?
I go from 65Mb to 5mb. With 2Mb of actual speed.
Very annoying.

Thanks, from what I have experienced, this phone is almost as bad as the iPhone for this issue. Why would they put the bloody antenna in the bottom left.
I get the same, unless I'm in the same room as the router I have to hold the phone in my right hand and keep my fingers behind the phone and the WiFi becomes unusable if I hold it in my left hand

I'm on Resurrection 3.0.6 with the newest Siyah. Have tried most kernels too.
I feel like this issue is worse in jb but I'm not sure. I am thinking to downgrade to ginger just to try.
But I agree with the above I max out around 1mbs when holding with my left hand.

The rezound finally died.

I have been using my Rez as a dashcam for a few months since getting the S4 and during the last cold snap it killed it. I walked out to the car and it appeared to be charging, then tried to power on and it kicked the bucket. No lights, sounds, nothing. Tried swapping batteries, and still can't get it to respond. Oh well, RIP Rezound.
