[Q] U20a unlocking bootloader, and flashing custom kernel - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hi, I have a question I own a mini x10 pro u20a, this version works in different frequencies to allow 3G (HSPDA) navigation, so my question is:
If I unlock the bootloader and flash a custom kernel, can it affect the data/3G connection?
because most of the developers are using a U20i phone and I don't know if the custom kernel can affect the frequency that the phone work.
have anyone with a U20a flashed a custom kernel without losing the compatibility with the data/3G connection?
thanks a lot for your answers.

i have an e10a and i use cm7 and cm9 and i have 3g. you need te u20a in the baseband 0015, and later unlock bootloader, and install custom kernel and a rom, you will not lose your 3g. note: your phone will say u20i, but it's u20a
///

u20a/u20i - e10a/e10i, according to my knowledge, the letters are only regional things, nothing about functionality. Even, for any reason, if you lose 3g, it can be fixed; just read in the appropiate subforum and thread, related to your device . Good luck

I'm running MiniCM7 2.1.9 nAa kernel and posting straightly from 3G, so I guess it works fine . However, I have seen some people having trouble with data, don't know what it could be, though, but here it works fine.
(My signature says U20i, but it is originally a U20a)

[QUESTION] Mexicans... Is this true?

Hi.
I have something really important to treat. This topic is mainly directed to mexican Xperia Ray/Neo/Mini/Arc owners, or people from other countries where there also is a big horrible service company that monopolizes the cellular telephony with expensive prices and a very deficient service...
One friend recently got the Galaxy Nexus. We both are from Mexico.
He told me that Telcel (the biggest and the baddest provider here, but the only "decent" option we have) "locked" down all the Xperia range and other brand phones too, so it will be technically impossible to get ICS by PC Companion. He just downloaded ADB and the official generic firmware and installed pure Android ICS on his Galaxy. He's happy now
I want ICS already on my Ray. I'm starting to think what he said is true, 'cause PC Companion never detects any update, I'm still stuck on Android 2.3.3.
I know I have the option of unlocking the bootloader, but my phone is SIM locked and unlocking it won't be that easy, that's why the service menu says "unlocking bootloader allowed: no". Besides, I don't want to mess with bootloader again thanks to my bad xperience with Xperia X8, now it's a pretty decorative paperweight lol.
I don't trust in Wotan server.
And finally, I have the option of updating with Flashtool by "pushing" the nordic firmware... But I want to know if any of you guys have tried this option and how it goes...
Or, if it's really necessary to unlock the bootloader, but with a process that grants it won't be any problem... I don't want another bricked phone. Im dying for using all those cool ICS ROMs and new kernels that developers are cooking!
Thanks in advance for reading and answering.
I'm from mexico and unfortunately it is true I have a x10 never had official update to 2.1 by telcel much less to 2.3 now I have a xperia ray and I doubt he has acutalizacion ICS so I have to update FlashTool and works well (sorry for my English I'm using the google translator)
Hi Man, if you want to try official Sony firmware updates like GB 2.3.4 or ICS 4.0.3, you don't have to unlock you phone, but you only need to use Flashtool softaware in order to flash .ftf firmware files in your phone.
You can easily find official .ftf firmware files and Flashtool installer in this section, just check threads regarding Flashtool upgrade and the list of our Ray's firmwares and mods.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351324
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1628264
Thanks to Hansip we have also a good list of mods and tweaks that we can do to our phone, go get a look into this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426912
With root and CWM you'll be able to flash rom's backups from recovery and this could be a good method to try some different softwares without unlocking bootloader; check this for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673489
Finally, I don't know alternative ways to Wotanserver for unlocking your sim-locked phone and I have never used it (I have always unlocked Xperias with test point method), so I can't help you figuring out alternative ways.
yes you are right telcel had blocked the bootloader so you cannot update i had an x8 i rooted then change the customization number to a generic e15a then the pc companion let me update and all the telcel garbage dissapear, now i have an wt19a but i don't know now any number to make it update, so if any one knows one please tell me.
the next week SE will release ICS for mi cel but if i don't have the magic number(for WT19a) i'll have to wait for telcel, so... i will never get ICS in my life :S knowing telcel....
A million thanks to all of you guys for your anwers.
Warst675, I think I'll have a busy weekend reading all the options you just posted. Thanks!.

Hi to all!
It is nice to see mexican people around here...
The sad thing is that there will be no update to ICS coming from Telcel, I will also follow the instructions posted above by Warst675 to update my Ray but I will wait if it's worthwhile... I didn't want to update because of the buggy 4.0.3 and I hope that 4.0.4 fixes majority of the problems.
Hi!,
I updated my Xperia Ray from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 using Wotan, no issues at all.
Then updated from 2.3.4 to new 4.0.3 using nordic rom and flashtool. Then using all the scripts and modifications from the forum, have a very decent rom with no garbage and a lot of quick options... no issues at all, and runs flawless.
Now I'm thinking to update again from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 as soon as a rom gets leaked and seeing scripts to make it better are compatible/available.
Good luck!.

Well don't lose hope man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oT1UIMt3UQ
in september Telcel will release ICS for all the xperias so just wait and dont' worry it will be ICS 4.0.4, it won't be 4.0.3 because sony release for wt19, txt, pro etc in this week 4.0.4 they didn't go trough 4.0.3 ^^
Hi again!
Guys, I got some news. I just installed Android ICS 4.0.3 with FlashTool.
I had some problems at the beginning, related with unstability and freezings. But now it seems my Ray is "adapting" to ICS, no problems in the last 15 hours.
However, Im still looking forward to install custom ROMs, I need more options in my Ray, maybe CM9 settings...
Don't wait 'till September you guys. Telcel sucks, really. Jinx is a member of our forums who is doing bootloader unlock for all Xperia phone over the internet. He's in England, and will do the unlock remotely for a fee of 15 pounds. Here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4002805
I've done this a long time ago and I can guarantee that he does get the job done. Do it and flash any firmware you want. Be free.
By the way, it won't void your warranty, lol.

Thanks for the info.
Seems like nobody is listening to what I'm saying. You are really accepting that pathetic situation of waiting for ICS almost a year after the release? By that time Jelly Bean would be out already. And to be honest, don't expect anything good. As a foreigner living in Mexico, I've had enough, not just from Telcel but Telmex, IUSACELL with their freaking piece of garbage Totalplay service. No offense but those companies really suck at being punctual.

You're right.
I won't wait just 'cause a bad company doesn't want to deliver the update at time. That's why I already installed Android 4.0.3 and Im looking forward to install 4.0.4 now.
If Ray is perfectly capable to run it, why not?
You can actually flash 4.0.4 now even with a locked bootloader and root it without any problem. It's actually a bit smoother than 4.0.3.

first we are in june there are 3 months to september not a year =P second yeah all the companys are garbage but telcel is the best of the worst :S
i have already tried changing the CDA in my LWW but i could't update to a generic frimware :S so unless somebody upload a latinamerican frimware either 2.3.4 (4.0.2.A.0.42..58...62) or the 4.0.4 we are stuck :S
We know Telcel sucks, it's the problem when a company owns the market...
I'd also like to see a latin-american version uploaded but until that happens I think I can wait for some time, maybe I'll change my mind and I will upgrade to a generic firmware, so far GB is working well on my Xperia Ray...

[Q] Rooting a SouthAmerican Atrix

I`ve had an Atrix for about 6 months and Im looking into rooting it, the thing is I live in Peru and so I probably have a Different Version.
So here are my specs:
Android Version: 2.2.2(Froyo)
System Version: Blur_Version. 0.54.1.MB860.AmericaMovil.en.01
Is there anything else that might be useful? my Carrier is: Claro which is a pretty big company in south america in case someone else has asked.
I can provide any aditional specs in case im missing something and I`ve been checking all the tutorials around here so I do have some idea of what I have to do.
I`ve tried looking for this before but Couldn`t find anything on my version, I hope I`m not asking something thats too obvious. I rooted my galaxy tab without any trouble but the atrix has a carrier and I dont wanna brick it.
I found a guide on Lifehacker and they said it works, but I cant post links yet so I cant show you, it basicly links Pete`s motorola root tools, in case its familiar to you.
In any case, Any help is appreciated!
Hi i'm from argentina and i bought an atrix with claro carrier, my rom is GB 2.3.6 and i root with superoneclick 2.3, you can download from the official site!!
sorry for my english!
Alright that sounds great, just one question though, when you talk about your rom, do you mean you were on Froyo and upgraded to gingerbread or that you rooted from gingerbread? if the answer is # 2 then do you think I might get some kind of issue from rooting from froyo with that method?
Slds.
South american atrix = brazilian? LOL. Upgrade to gingerbread and use the rooting tool.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Well you see gingerbread hasnt come out yet for Claro in Peru, I don`t think its the same software they use for brazil, Argentina would definitely be a closer call. But Still, I`ve heard they`ve got the Gingerbread OTA update and we haven`t so far.
So any tips on rooting from Froyo?

to change baseband try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244490
You have to do this
"1-Primero tenes que crear un backup de CM10(P760) desde el recovery.
2-Flashias un KDZ argentino(P778).
3-Rooteas.
4-Instalas el recovery
5-Desde el recovery restauras el backup que hiciste en el paso 1.
Ya tenés el CM10 con la banda base argentina"
Y apartir de ese CM10 podes pasar al CM11 que vas a conservar tu banda base argentina.
Another idea to change baseband
Hello,
I am currently using CM11 Unofficial from Artas with baseband v20i on my P760. I would like to flash a new build of this rom, but I need to change the baseband to v20o, at first.
So far, all operations that require connection to a computer either with this, as well as with the previous (HTC Desire Z) device I was able to perform only with Linux terminal, so the method which requires Windows (and probably eventually even xp) and all this mess with the drivers terribly discouraged me.
I also know that CWM recovery doesn't support baseband partition - but maybe TWRP does? - Anyone tried it?
I watched a little on the partitions and it looks like the baseband is here: /dev/block/mmcblk0p7. Can anyone confirm this?
And if that's true, then maybe someone could make an image of partition 7 (with baseband v20o of course) and then one could try to flash it using fastboot?
How do you think, if it could be done this way?
Regards,

Erase customized ROM and go back to the original, out of the box?

Hi! I need help. I bought a used XZ1 US version, and it doesn't had the fingerprint enabled. I flashed the device with Flashtool and Xperifirm, using the Europe version of the software to enable the fingerprint. I don't know much about this, but i want to go back and erase the customized rom, as if the cellphone come out of the box, and had the OTA updates and everything.
I'm a little bit scared haha, tis is all new to me, and i don't know if i can fix this. Any help will be greatly apreciated.
Note: Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Argentina and huge fan of the work here!
Hi, since you flashed via flashtool without unlocking bootloader (or did you unlock the bootloader?) you are not using a custom rom, it's an official rom. Use flashtool/xperifirm to download the rom of the region your device.
(tu rom no es custom, si instalas un rom aunque sea de diferente región, sigue siendo rom oficial y no custom. así que si queres regresar al rom de la región con que venía el cell, sólo debes bajar el firmware de esa región e instalarlo usando flashtool).
BTW using flashtool you can download latest firmware, you don't need to wait OTA.
Thanks! Now I'm more relieved ?. The other issue I had it's with some apps like Instagram or Google earth on Play Store. It says "Your device it's not compatible with this version". I have to download the apk of those to use the apps. The current version of Android is 8.0. When updated to 9.0, it will fix this? I did something wrong in the flashing?

Mmm that is weird, that say "device it's not compatible...". I'm sure this will be fixed when flashing. Im currently at pie (and rooted) and those apps can be installed from Google store.
I'll wait to the update to android pie, and if the problem persist I'll flash the device again, seeing to make all the steps right. If you have to recommend a guide to flash my xz1, which one would you recommend?
