I checked around the site and saw threads dealing with ruu and mainver problems. anybody know how to go back to stock?
RUU is the best way to get it completely clean and stock.

Or you can grab one of the two stock rooted ROMs from the dev forum and flash those, if you are already updated then I think scrosler's is the way to go. If you are not updated to the OTA and you want to be RUU is best way, or else grab con247's stock rooted ROM and do this:
Put ROM on sd card
Flash in recovery
When you get to bootloader put phone in fastboot and connect to PC
Relock phone
Flash PHzip in hboot
Unlock phone
Flash Amon Ra if needed (can't recall if you'll have stock recovery now or not)
Install su
Also, there's a Q&A forum in here where this thread should really have been posted.

You didn't flash a gingerbread kernel and you cannot boot GB on ICS kernel. We also cannot flash kernels through recovery on our s-on devices.

So I achieved s-off on my first try, and was feeling cocky. So, I downloaded Newt's new 4.0, with the patch for old firmware from Nil's Rom. I am writing this from my rezound now, but whenever I try to go back to chingy's gb Rom, it hangs at the 4g screen. I have tried to use the image the Rom produces, pm98img from another gingerbread Rom, incredikernal, and fast l
booting the boot.IMG file from said sources. What am I doing wrong? Besides messing with stuff I shouldn't. I thought going back to gingerbread would be simple if I stayed on old firmware. Does anyone know where to go from here? I can install Newt's xXx Rom and boot with no problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I fixed it by using the PH98IMG ruu, then using the juonutbear hboot patch. Then reloaded Amon Ra. Flashed Chingy's rom, then my back up. There was alot of drama in the middle of all that. Mostly caused by the user. I flashed so many different things, that i would have trouble telling you what i flashed to get back. I scoured xda for several hours before attempting to try this, and hours more before i asked for help. Thanks to those that helped.
easyy fix
the 2.1 is just a patch you need to do 2.0 first which is newtoroot rom then 2.1 for the patch and yes you do need to use the sense4_boot.img again
The old ROMs didn't contain firmware. So if you installed the ICS leak RUU then you have the new firmware and need to flash the "old firmware" patch. As far as kernels go, you should always flash the kernel that came with the ROM(except for GB ROMs where you can use incredikernel).
I think this will work for you. Backup your current ROM(if you want), then flash a GB RUU, then flash a GB ROM/kernel. Make a backup of that. Now you should have a GB firmware backup and an ICS firmware backup.

He was saying he just installed Newt's rom,but still on GB firmware. I think all you have to do is reflash Chingy's rom, but wipe first and then make sure your installing GB's kernel. I have had similar issues , where I had to install a rom with the stock kernel first before going back to custom kernels. So maybe install Scott's earlier GB rom first or Nil's GB business sense rom they both use the stock kernel.
Not sure why that seems to work, but for awhile I had the exact same issue going from ICS to GB and back. Only solution I ever found was to wipe a few times install a rom , then stock kernel.
Mjh got it right. I have back ups of both. whenever i try to go back to gingerbread now, i get stuck at the 4g splash. i have tried several gb kernels and still no dice. i think a ruu is in order. I have the exe RUU on my pc. It is taking forever for the PM98IMG Ruu to download. Can i run exe file on my S-off phone and then use recovery to load one of my older gb roms.S-off was easy compared to this. Thanks for any and all advice.

Yes, you can ruu , just remember if your on stock hboot you will have to relock and that will affect what your bootloader says. Otherwise, also make sure after the ruu to reflash amon ra recovery.
Did you try the stock ota kernel ?http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476152
Try the GB kernel on this page and see if it works before RUUing.

Hello all, I am new to these forums so I apologize in advance for possibly sounding a bit uninformed.
I got a Rezound from a friend that was never unlocked or rooted that was stuck in a boot loop. I tried everything to bring it back to life with no luck. I flashed the stock RUU, I unlocked via HTC Dev and flashed Amon ra 3.15 recovery. No matter what I did, It would just boot up to the HTC white screen and shut down and repeat over and over.
I decided to put a custom ROM on it to see if that would work. I flashed Scott's Clean ROM from recovery along with his PH98IMG.zip file as instructed to do and the phone came to life. I am currently running the Clean Rom which is ICS 4.0.3 which happens to be the same android version as stock.
What I am wondering is, If I can somehow get this phone back to stock? The RUU didn't work the first 20 times I tried it and it probably won't work now. Is it possible to flash the stock ROM through recovery? Is RUU the only way to go? Do I need to use stock recovery to load stock ROM? If anyone knows how I can get this phone to stock, I would appreciate it. It is strange how it works on custom ROM but not on stock.

I recently bought a htc one x plus and as the person as i am, i quickly unlocked the bootloader, installed a custom recovery (ClockworkMod recovery) and kernel. But then i tried to flash a AOKP Jelly Bean 4.2.1 Custom ROM and after flashing it, it would just hang around the AOKP boot logo (a horse head with rotating rings around it). Then, without thinking, i relocked the bootloader (with a custom rom) to send it for warranty. Now, it would only go to the bootloader screen. After going through a few forums, i found out that this could be repaired by using the correct ruu for my device but they all say that i have to flash a stock recovery and boot.img before relocking the bootloader in order for the ruu to work. So my question is can i reunlock my bootloader to flash the stock recovery and boot.img without bricking the device and can flashing the correct ruu repair my phone. Please reply, i'm so desperate. The htc guys wanted me to pay $400 just to repair it and since i rooted the phone, warranty does not cover it.

You can unlock the boot again if you kept the code you received when you did it the 1st time round. Once you have unlocked it you can then flash any Rom. Did you make a nand backup before installing the custom Rom? If you did you can reinstall the custom recovery and restore the phone to stock.
I currently run the viper 3.4.2 rom, you could also install this after installing the custom recovery.

Hi Sharveen,
Please do youself a favor, and don't use the CWM Recovery, this Recovery is not adapted for this phone, I strongly suggest that you install TWRP Recovery, the latter is way more complete and rigorously tested on the HTC One X+.
TIP : Please read, read, read as much as you can before doing any changes to your phone, that can save you lots of problem.
First make sure your SDK tool (adb) is correctly installed and also the HTC's drivers. (There is a link for a tutorial in my signature.)
Download the correspondent recovery for your phone International OR AT&T/Telus (N.B. Links are available in the Sticky FAQ)
Flash the Recovery.
Clear Cache
Reboot in Recovery
DO A COMPLETE BACKUP OF YOUR ACTUAL ROM. BE SURE TO KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE
Install your correspondent version of any ROM.zip you want that is already on your storage. (Otherwise,Sideload a ROM to be able to flash one inRecovery)
Flash the boot.img of your desired ROM
Clear Cache Again
Reboot
Should work
Thank you soo much for replying and no, i did not make a nandroid backup when i tried to flash the rom. So can flashing a correct ruu repair my phone and hopefully get it back to stock rom...
Is your SDK/ADB tool correctly installed?

If you want to flash a RUU you need to install the original Recovery then flashing the correspondent RUU. Just let us know what is your preference, but as far as I am concern, your original backup wasn't made too bad, but you can still install a modded ROM.
This is gonna be your call for the continuity.

You could try searching the forum to see if someone has a nand backup for your phone. Only problem with ruu's is they haven't released the more up to date ones, so if your phone had the latest ota I doubt you will be able to use the ruu method. Personally I would use a custom Rom until you can find a nand for your phone.

The original recovery will be contained in the %temp% folder created by the ruu when opened but do i have to flash the boot.img which is also contained in the folder and also most of the forums says that you have to flash the boot.img after flashing the recovery while some says that you could relock the bootloader and flash the ruu after flashing the recovery only. So in my situation, do i have to flash the boot.img or not.

Ok, I don't consider myself too much of a noob, I have rooted my old droid incredible many times...however,
I tried rooting my rezound today and believe I was successful at least in getting my bootloader unlocked...(using Hasoon's AIO kit v3.1)
I tried loading aokp rom and it just stuck on the white HTC screen..I can get into hboot, I tried rebooting many times..I downloaded
RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_2.01.605.11_Radio_RS_0.95.00.1123r_3161E_9K_QMR_release_233635_signed.zip and copied it to the sd card, renamed it PH98IMG.zip and tried re-flashing to the same stuck white HTC screen.
I am starting to freak out and wish I didn't have to ask for help here, but I am at the end of the rope and don't know what else to do...
Any kind souls out there that can help me?
Thanks in advance...
Being stuck at the white screen means the kernel didn't load when you installed the rom. I'm assuming your phone is still s-on. You need to flash the kernel seperate from the rom using fastboot. Extract the boot.img from the rom zip and flash it from your PC, I believe the option is there in the all in one tool.
If you wan to run the RUU, you need to re-lock your bootloader first and flash it through the bootloader, not recovery.

The boot.img flashing DID work...
Now I just have to find the correct stock ROM... The one I tried said it was too old during the recovery...
any thoughts....Any links to a solid recent stock ROM??
Thanks again!!

If you want to stick with Sense 3.6, I recommend this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1855605
I've download stock one for my rezound from android police website.

If you want the latest official RUU, here is a link:
(the RUU you tried to use above was a GB one)
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Vigor Grab 3.14.605.12
There was a recent OTA to take it to .13 but it's not really necessary.
If you want to go to the global leak RUU here is a link:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/
Since you are s-on, if you go to the global leak you won't be able to go back to anything official unless you s-off.
The above will have Verizon bloat, so if you want something stock without bloat you can look through the ROMs. I think there's a couple in there.
This is last resort. I've been at this for a while so please someone help out.
Got the phone.
Did the OTA update to Telus 1.20.661.1.
Unlocked and Rooted with AIO Toolkit.
Tryed to install a few roms to get rid of Sense (Venom XL+ 1.2.7). None worked and confirmed by others users with newer software.
Trying to get back to stock and can't do that either. Downloaded the "RUU_EVITARE_UL_JB_45_TELUS_WWE_1.15.661.11_Radio_1.09.55.17_18.20.95.55L_release_290307_signed" and get either USB or general errors 155/159
Can't figure out how to get back to an older firmware and stock rom/boot image.
Can someone please help?

I have the same issues after the AT&T firmware update, I can't flash any ROM. The only one I can use is the stock nandroid backup.
I've tried everything with no avail.
I'll try with CWM recovery and let you know.

I was able to use CMW recovery and reinstall a backed up rom but since trying the RUU exe it worked just enough to wipe that so I don't have it anymore.
Where do I find a stock backup?
I'm reading in other threads that the RUU's don't work with hboot versions above 3.5. Not sure if that's why the RUU exe won't work for me or not.
Seems like very outdated files on HTCdev. Nice of them to break their last resort recovery tools and not bother updating them.

Did actually get it out of boot loop.
Had to catch it at a very specific position during start up to be detected long enough to flash the boot image.
Got it on the AT&T 1.19 rom now but really want to get rid of sense and get the Venom rom working. Wish I hadn't hit that upgrade button..

Because you have the new hboot, you cannot go back to an earlier rom. If you flash the rom from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235248 you should have updated stock. You will need to push the zip from the link to your phone with adb. You can then use TWRP or CWM to install rom and fastboot to flash the updated boot.img.
Thanks. I noticed others mention the hboot and RUU issue.
That's the rom I ended up getting to work. But it's stock only.
I haven't tried it yet but others are reporting that the AT&T 1.19 doesn't work with custom roms either.
