Update: Worked for me on my Note
Given the similarity of hardware, i'm inclined to think that the Darkside superwipe tool (CMW tool) from the AT&T skyrocket forum would work for the note. I'm willing to give it a go depending on peoples feedback here. The tool i'm refering to is linked below.
*Added note for clarity: I am not aware of anyone else besides me using this Skyrocket tool on the note - i advise caution, intrepid explorers only! Please use the reference link for guidance on usage:

It makes rom testing that much easier by performing all necessary wipes for a clean install.
Thanks in advance for your input!
I went ahead and tried it. Seems to work without issue, no errors. Saurom installing now.
His wording isn't very detailed in the thread. Do you put it in the root folder of your internal SD?
How do you know it worked? Did you flash a rom after or did you apply his update zip and then just reboot and everything was wiped?

Well, I went from the TPC rom to Saurom, running this CWM darkside install script before Saurom installation. Not only did the new rom install without issue, it did so without inheriting any installs from the tpc rom (which happans when flashing compatable roms over each other w/o wipe). But I didnt run darkside wipe and try to boot, i proceeded with the new rom installation. I took a leap of faith that the "success" messages indicated correctly after the wipe.
As for instructions on how to use, refer to the link in the OP

External sd, like you would a rom - runs via CWM

Glad to hear it works, makes me think more Skyrocket stuff might be compatible or at least easily ported. Only time will tell.
so, anyone else try this?
on my e4gt, we had caulkins wipe, which was a fantastic tool to run b4 flashing a new rom..hope this is the same type of tool for our Notes!

Same thing. I use Darkside Wipe every time I flash a new ROM with no problems.

flawless victory :highfive:
It works perfectly fine. I've been using it for the better part of the last year without any issues. I've used it on CWM and TWRP.
I recommend that you use it after you've done your Factory Wipe and wiped Cache/Dalvik x3; cleans everything up nicely for a fresh install.

I don't recommend this. I used this and it fried my external memory card. Can't mount it or format it. Thank god it was only a 8gb.
I have used it on the t989 and the skyrocket when i had both with no issues but with my note it damaged my memory card.

Tell that to the 2 memory cards i fried just to see if it was the wipe. Killed a 8gb and a 1gb after doing the wipe.

Have to go with wase on this one, used it everytime I flashed a ROM or prior to nand restore. Works like a charm and never had memory cards issues.

So I just realized that A2SD really corrupts your phone. Why?
Because every rom I use with A2SD ends up having the same problem over and over again, no matter what rom I'm using. And as a matter of fact, it's happening to me right now AGAIN after 3 weeks of recovering from a major one. Last one was worse because I couldn't wipe dalvik cache or flash any roms from CWM and had to completely reflash a 5 package with Odin.
Your phone will start turning off randomly. I myself just found my phone off WHILE CHARGING again. The common factor between all the roms I've been using is A2SD. No matter what script or mod I use. The fist time it happened to me was using Jusada's ICS final and now I'm all the way on The Myth 2.
I will still be using A2SD since I really need the extra space. My C++ compiler by itself is 60MB.
Just wanted to let you guys know, if it happened to you, you're gonna have to reflash a new rom all over again. If you can't wipe something from CWM before installing a rom, Odin is your fix.
Just want to make this clear, does your phone turn off completely or does it reboot?

I've been using the INT2EXT4+ script for a few months(?) and I havent got in touch with this issue. You could try to go stock for a week (with your essential apps installed + another sdcard) and see if this occurs to confirm it, such a hassle though...
To me this doesn't really sound convincing if I were to be honest, mostly because it hasnt struck me (yet).

I don't know. It keeps happening to me constantly. I just finished reflashing Myth 2 again. The script I was using before was INT2EXT+. Going to do the same thing all over again. I'm not sure if its the SD because this happened way back in the Jusada days and back then I had just recently bought my phone + SD.
Even while using S2E on CM7 and while I was using DT's A2SD when I first started using Myth 2. Not really sure how it's possible. This is my only theory.
Yep I also have issues with different A2SDs.
S2E
After a reboot my sd-ext is not mounted. Had to use Advance restore in CWM (sd-ext only)
Darktremor's A2SD
Random bootloop after a reboot. Had to completely restore CWM backup
INT2EXT/4
After a reboot, sd-card is only mounted as R/O. Had to use Advance restore in CWM (sd-ext only)
So every once in a while I always do nandroid back-ups. That's the only solution I know. But now I deleted scripts in my init.d specifically Adrenaline Engine because I noticed some of them has remount scripts at boot. I only left the default ones and the a2sd script. After a few reboots no problems so far. Hoping this will continue for a long time. :fingers-crossed:
I don't think that the matter is to be taken as drastically as in OP.
Using an a2sd script obviously puts your phone in the condition to be less stable than before, but some little steps will help you facing it.
1) If dalvik is moved to sd-ext by the script DON'T WIPE IT. It will result in phone not booting. If you are using INT2EXT script there is a flashable zip which wipes it in a secure way (just have a look at the Cronmod topic in this forum).
2) If the SD doesn't mount properly try taking it away and cleaning it (I think blowing at the SD and at the socket will do). It happened to me that the phone wasn't booting, no matter how many times I restarted it. After cleaning SD it was all right... and the same happened to a friend of mine.
3) Do frequent backups (at least once a week). You never know.
Hope I was helpful.

can honestly the problem isnt with the script i had this issue tons of times aswell with multiple roms.
something on your sd ext is corrupt format your sd card with mini partition tool and recreate an ext 4 using that aswell will sort the issue out
n btw i was getting bootloops and andriod force close alot before i formated
now using Amarullz tho its alot more stable

1. I never wipe dalvik unless I'm flashing a new rom.
2. I've never had that problem.
3. Yeah, I told myself I was going to do that but I kept forgetting. Either way, if you do a backup, won't you save the to-be-corrupted files anyway?

So you're saying the problem is the ext partition that CWM creates? Ext 4 is better? But a lot of people make partitions off CWM and theirs still work fine. :/

Sent from Ursa's claws.
I already used S2E, DT A2D, Link2SD and never had any problem like this.
But I'm facing a different but at the same time similar problem. By "similar" I mean that the problem also persists even flashing the ROM again, or flashing other ROMs (CM based ones).
WelI, I was testing CM 7.2 SIII Mod v2 ROM and after a reboot the PlayStore app disappeared. I did the 3 wipes, flashed the ROM again and it wasn't there either. Then I installed the Stock 2.3.6 with Odin and again flashed that same ROM and nothing again. Installed Stock 2.3.6 with Odin again, downloaded the latest CM7.2 from cyanogenmod website, flashed it, and guess what ? No PlayStore app! Now in every CM based ROM that I flash, PlayStore is missing. In Stock based ones there is no problem, it's always there.

Already did the backup. I really hope it doesn't happen anymore. Everything is literally working flawlessly on my phone
I'm a noob. I managed to root my Note and successfully install my first ROM. Sadly, I have to give up the phone (bills etc) and am selling it tomorrow morning. How can I ensure the ROM remains on it, but it's completely wiped of all my data.
Currently have Blackstar ROM on it.
Thanks in advance.
go into recovery and choose factory reset and format/wipe internal storage. reboot and check if anything remains. wipe external also if you are selling sd card with it otherwise dont forget to remove sd card.

I managed to compile twrp for the SGS3 GT-I9300. I loved this recovery on my SGS1 (until I couldn't get it to activate on devil kernel) and my Galaxy Tab 10.1. It has saved my rear end several times while testing the A1 kernel. With its on recovery terminal I could dd flash the stock kernel. CWM Touch is nice but I ABSOLUTELY LOATHE the blobs backup format. It makes it darn near impossible to save nandroid backups on your computer. I can understand the logic behind the blobs format but I still hate it. Also, I think it's a shame that the American/Canadian Qualcomm SGS3 has TWRP but the international power house doesn't.
I just downloaded the twrp source a few hours ago so this is TWRP V2.2.2.1. Unfortunately, the external SD does not mount but I did manage to get adb to work. I think that you could always adb push a rom zip in the event you cannot boot, forgot to make a nandroid, and forgot to have a "just in case" zip. Also, when rebooting, YOU MUST CHOOSE REBOOT SYSTEM. If you just poweroff, it will reboot into recovery the next time. If you forget and choose poweroff and it reboots into recovery, just choose reboot system and everything will be fine.
Attached is A1 (the character my A1 kernel is named after) holding my I9300 showing the recovery. The source is also uploaded, which includes files that I've changed in case anybody is interested to know how I did it. There is a rootzwiki page with instructions I followed. Just a few minor deviations from the instructions. I did "make recoveryimage" instead of "make amp amp..." that they recommended. And the obvious deviation, our device is called i9300 not tenderloin. That's the HP Touchpad.
I flashed the latest CM10 nightly from it, the latest siyah kernel and a touchwiz zip and nothing went wrong. Also tested backup and restore. Went fine.
Here is a youtube video demonstrating TWRP on the Galaxy Nexus by some random person on youtube.
Credits: team win, siyah kernel developer (recycled your zip to make the recovery zip). None of the code is original from me. I only tweaked the recovery.rc to enable adb.

I am currently running clean rom, and wanted to try out beans town rom. After 4 failed attempts at install, I had no choice but to give up and go back to clean rom.
I followed the directions in the post, I even wiped system and formatted... still no luck. As soon as I swipe to install in TWRP, it says failed in red.
What am I doing wrong? Any thoughts?
I've tried searching, and haven't been able to find an answer.

I would highly recommend redownloading the ROM. I also would take the opportunity while you have CleanROM up and running to update your TWRP to the latest version. You might need a clean TWRP install as well. Do these two things and hopefully you'll have no problem in your next attempt.
Btw, my procedure for flashing is as follows from TWRP (0 Failures to Date):
Wipe Cache --> Wipe Dalvik Cache --> Factory Reset --> System --> Internal Storage --> Format Data --> Install
WARNING: Please be sure that if you're installing from your SD Card (which you should be) that you at least have one ROM that flashes properly (i.e. your CleanROM version) or you might brick yourself if you can't get the Beans9 to flash.
Best of luck to you sir! :good:
Also, Beans has released version 10 of his rom. So at the moment, I would download Beans 10- rather than 9. Also while you are at it, be sure to update your radio if you have not already done so. It improved my 4G speed considerably!
Make sure to check the hash values of the files when you download them. Especially the radio files.
Well...after a lot of headache and strife... I was finally able to get Beans build 10 onto my phone. I can't exactly say what it was for sure that was causing so much trouble. But what I have found is that TWRP 2.4.1.0 wasn't reading the zip files from my extSD card. So I had to install Clockwork recovery, then used it to reinstall TWRP 2.4.1.0
I then downloaded the from zip file directly to the internal storage over WiFi using the factory browser instead of Chrome. Then booted into recovery, wiped both caches, factory reset, and then installed the zip/rom successfully.
This is all after I had to take the phone back to stock, then go back through the rooting and unlocking process. This is because I had wiped system and did a data format in the attempt to clear my phone of whatever was causing it to fail opening the zip/rom for build9. Then not only was I not able to open and install beans9, but I also wasn't able to open/install the CleanRom Lite I was already running.
What and adventure... glad its over and I am enjoying beans build 10.

I wonder if it has to do with the version of TWRP you are running. I am still on the older 2.3.2.3. I did see that the latest/greatest version is 2.4.1.0 but didn't upgrade to that because I read some posts about folks having issues restoring their nandroids. I would like to use the latest version but if there's issues, and mine is not currently broken, then for the meantime I will stay with my older version I wonder if 2.4.1.0 had anything to do with your issues?
But at any rate, I am glad that all is well now

Hi there ibm2010,
There's only 2 radios:
I605VRALJB
I605VRALL4
VRALJB is the one that came with the Note 2 originally, while VRALL4 was the radio update released OTA on January 18, 2013. Click below for more information, and also to download the modems:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36942418&postcount=1
Also, to check which version you have, from the main screen on your N2, press the menu button, click "Settings", click on "About phone", and then look for the line that says "Baseband version", and mine is I605VRALL4. Originally had the first one, I605VRALJB, and then updated mine using TWRP to I605VRALL4.
I would recommend that you download both files to your external card before flashing, just in case.
And as always, use at your own risk.
Regards,
Stat
I think I may have found where all my grief stemmed from... I may have very well had gone through all this trouble with trying to load these zip files from the external SD card, when the SD card most likely is responsible for causing all the trouble in the first place by not allowing itself to carry nor open all of the zip files....fake/bad card.... This is a Kingston brand 32gb class 10 sdhc for reference for all those curious.
I used an app from the market called "SD Card Tester." And I did this after reading a couple other posts unrelated to mine that were experiencing bad/fake microSD cards being purchased from eBay, and using software to check their authenticity and size. Kingston is a legit brand as I've owned their 8gb flash drive for about 6 years and haven't had any problems with it even one time. So I don't want to go blaming the brand for anything, rather this batch or maybe the one I got is a knock off from ebay.
Anyways.... Hope this helps others out down the line, as in the future I now know I will be checking any flash memory I buy for using software in order to verify the capacity and readability is accurate as to never have to go through what I went through losing all my app backups and nandroids.

Hey Yep that worked as far as recovery goes. Thanks so much for that. I know you said you sd card was formated as extFAT. What should I try as far as trying to get that Rom on there? Flash like you said and wipe after and fix permissions? Never had a Rom fail to install sorry for all the questions just wanting to make sure I do this right. Thanks so much for all you help(need that apps to sd feature.) Can't download folder mount insufficient storage even when I delete apps. Thanks again Tried getting in contact with Andy as he put this rom together but no luck on that front yet I am sure he is super busy doing Roms. Also you said that TWRP version I had was probably the reason, it looks like the latest version? Sorry if this is a dumb question used to Clockwork Mod and 4EXT. (TWRPV2.6.0.0 what i have installed)

So do it the same way just with the other version of TWRP? Doing this do I just get that version and rewrite script? Will this keep my other back up as well? Thanks for your help.

Just flash any of the zipped recoveries except Twrp 2.6.0.0. You should be able to restore the nandroids you made if you choose to use twrp 2.5.0.2.
*First check the md5 of whatever rom your going to flash. Then follow these steps.*
1. Format system, data, cache and dalvik cache
2. Flash rom.
3. If rom contains firmware update (i.e. a new kernel, or modem etc. ) then fix permissions.
4. Reboot

I downloaded a MD5 checker and they are not the same. What is suggested in this scenario? Please see attached. I have stopped at this point. So I don't mess anything up

Thats the md5 of a data partition from a backup. I meant check the md5 of whatever rom you were going to flash. Don't worry about the md5 of your nandroids for now.

had to change out my memory card and it did same method and it worked. My other memory card is format fat32 and the 64 is extFAT is there a way to get my phone to read that? when i insert it it says damaged or format. I have formatted it 3 times. Works in computer not in phone. I can mount it after and you can use it but I could not flash a rom from it.

Okay, let me rephrase that. Read the directions posted by the developer of whatever rom your to flash. If there aren't any instructions, you shoudl post asking the dev. But if you know what your doing you're going to be ok, in general only wipe the system parition if you know the rom that you're installing is already pre-rooted. You mentioned you wanted to install the stock root deodex VRUAME7 rom made by andybones. That rom is pre-rooted. Just don't install an OTA.

Where does it say fail at? What does the message say? Put the rom on your sdcard instead. If not then go to advanced>>copy log to sdcard then send it to me.

Got the rom installed had to change the card out to my old card which is fat32 not extFAT. As soon as I did that it flashed with no problems. Thanks for all your help. Question though I have a 64gb sdhc card that is formatted in extFAT but the phone picks it up as damaged but you can look under storage and mount it and it will show 64gb.... this was also the case last night when I was trying to install the rom. I have seen a lot of people saying the s4 is having problems reading extFAT so I was gonna format it to fat32 but when I do I lose half of the 64gb card. Do you know of any solutions for this? I would rather have extFAT for bigger file transfer but at this point I just want 64gb of storage lol. Thanks again for answering all my questions these last few days.
