Sony Tablet S - Stuck on Boot - Sony Tablet S

Hey guys,
I am currently having an issue where my S1 gets stuck on the boot up screen. It seems to freeze on the "Sony" text before it gets to the boot animation and just stays there until I long press the power button to turn off. I tried the reset function first to no avail. Then I let the battery completely drain and recharge before I turned it back on and it still gets stuck in the same place. I have not rooted or done anything to it but download a few apps and a launcher. Two things I would like to avoid is doing a factory reset but more importantly avoid dealing with Sony and their warranty. Any help you all could provide would be appreciated!

Unfortunately you have only this two choices ...
Factory reset or Sony (dealer) warranty ...

I was having wifi issues after rooting and did a factory reset solving my problem. If you don’t have that many apps on your tab I'm pretty sure it will fix your problem. Since you haven't rooted your devise then you should be fine calling Sony tech support if the factory reset doesn’t fix the boot loop.

Thanks for your responses. I spent a lot of time setting up my home pages as hubs so this sucks!
Next question, does anyone know how to perform factory reset without booting up the device? I performed one when I first received it but went through the Settings. Since I cant get past the boot screen, I obviously cant do it that way.

factory data reset
with the tablet off you need to press and hold the volume + button and then press and hold the power button. keep holding both buttons and when you see the sony logo release the power button only. once you get the android system recovery mode you release the volume button and use the volume + and - to navigate the menu and quickly press the power button to make a selection. before you do the reset try this: access the recovery mode and select restart and cancel, your tablet might boot normally.

If you are unable to enter stock recovery I would think you will probably have to contact Sony. Even if you have adb I don’t think you would be able to do anything because your devise is not rooted. Someone correct if I am wrong.

I believe you are right.
I was unable to get the tablet into recovery using the method stated above. I get to the Sony screen (as always) but when I release the volume button the tablet turns off. Now I have to deal with Sony. Crap! What are the chances they replace it under warranty when I bought it off ebay?

Call them and play dumb. Tell them that you received it as a gift and you weren’t sure where it was purchased from. It’s worth a shot.

My Solution
I just had this problem, what I did was..
when on the Sony logo I took out my SD card>unplugged power>did a hard reboot>waited about 30sec>then powered the tablet on and it booted normally.
I hope this was somewhat helpful

My Tablet have the same issues. It goes to Sony Service Center. I think is a shame for Sony, because the tablet is 8 months old. That is not quality.

Sony Firmware update
Since I had the lockup on the Sony logo, I have received firmware update 4.0.3 Rev1a I haven't had the problem again yet.

what happened with you can you help me
i have the same problem
thank you ....

Have you tried using a paper clip and reset yet? Worth a shot before staying on hold with Sony.

Galaxy S2 Power Button Issue

So I searched the forum for a bit and saw some people have similar issues but not the exact issue that I have. For some reason, my phone's power button only turns on the phone. After the phone is on, it doesn't work anymore. (i.e. will not put the phone into the lock state nor wake up the phone) The only way for me to wake up the phone is to plug it into the charger which will activate the lock screen.
Some additional information:
I am currently running Stock 4.0.3 ICS unrooted.
I have tried a factory reset on the phone.
I have also tried the *2767*3855# factory format code which is supposed to reinstall the phone firmware.
I was using the Go Launcher/Go Locker app as my default home screen and lock screen but this is still happening even after a factory reset back to TouchWiz.
This problem occurred after turning my phone back on this morning after it died due to running out of battery.
If anyone knows what I should do or can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.

Boo, that sucks. Do you think going through AT&T or Samsung would be better? I guess its between a refurbished phone vs not having one for 2 or so weeks.

[I gave up] Stuck on Asus EeePad boot screen after JB update and CANNOT shut off

Attempted the JB update, seemed to install (I also did it on my wife's) but on mine it must have failed and failed hard as now I am infinitely stuck on the "Asus Eee Pad" boot screen and if you try to shut it off it just reboots... endless loop. So, there is no way to even shut it down. It just reboots back to this screen! If I try to boot using power+volume down I get (1) wipe data and (2) Android and so I pick #2 and it says cold booting Linux but nothing happens.. ever..
WTF happened and how can I get out of it? Wiping data is not an option I want. Press reset button just reboots but it just reboots anyway.
did you try the reset button? that is the only thing i guess you could do, next to factory resetting... what about usb connections when your in the recovery?
This may not quite be your problem, but do see these threads:

I press reset button and it just reboots and sticks at the screen. So, loops over and over back to the EeePad Screen. endless. no way to shut it off or get any further.
I cannot boot into recovery. When I do, I get a dead Andy with red exclamation.
I could try to hook it to my PC via USb but... when what IF it even would work?
This might only be solved by hooking it to my PC but have no idea what steps to do, software to load, etc.
You don't have an unlocked bootloader with NVflash, don't you?
If your adb recognizes your prime, you could force it to shut down at first and then restart it completely. but I fear that will not work.
I think you need to reset the device. luckily pictures and videos, music etc. is normally not erased when restoring firmware configuration.
If even that does not work, I think you are one case for RMA.
No unlocked bootloader, no NV flash.
Not sure how to "adb recognizes your prime, you could force it to shut down at first and then restart it completely"
BTW, pictures and videos are less of an issues, dozens and dozens and dozens of hours setting up and loading apps and making their settings just rght is the real loss if I have to wipe it.
So, I want to exhaust all avenues before any wipe is done.
i'm having the same issue. i've read elsewhere that somebody was able to exchange theirs at Best Buy. i've had mine since release, so I'm assuming that won't be an option for me. i've tried running the battery down until it shuts off. when i plug it back in and fire it up, it just gets stuck at the splash screen again.
yeah, it is crazy.. you cannot even shut the f**** thing off.
I want to try to salvage it of course. Did you try the wipe option?
i can't get to a point where i can even try to wipe it. my computer won't recognize that it's there, which makes sense (to me anyway) because it really isn't. it's completely unresponsive aside from the endless loop of boot screen.
The only way to shutdown the tablet is to let the battery die. And then make a RMA for it. :crying:

so since your RMA anyway, did you try a data wipe first?
I bet there is a way around it, just need some savvier people to chime in on the steps using ADB or something?

Called Asus.. they said either data wipe or RMA this POS....
anyone with any other ideas?
did they inform you on how you're supposed to wipe the data off of a tablet that won't allow you to do anything but sit at a boot up screen? i don't care if i have to wipe the data, i have nothing on it that is that important.
i'm going to have to have that very conversation with them tonight.

oh thats easy.. hold power+volume down button and you should see at least 2 icons.. WIPE DATA or ANDROID.. just pick Wipe Data and give it a shot.
I want to hold out and see if someone can reccomend a way to ADB or sideload JB or something as I care about all dozens and dozens and dozens of hours and days and weeks of time I spent setting up apps and configuring that I will loose with a data wipe. If you dont care, go for it and report if it works.
yeah, i've tried that. i can't even get the icons to pop up. i'll try again tonight before calling, but i'm not all that optimistic. although i didn't try it this morning after running the battery dry. perhaps it would work now. we'll see i guess. worst case, i'm in the same boat that i'm in now.
i'd probably care more if i have spent that much time on it too. i've maybe spent a handful of random hours screwing around with it, so i'm not really out much.

My tablet is completely unresponsive. Talked to Asus and according to them the only option is an RMA. If you're able to get the data wipe prompt, you might have other options, but I don't know what they are. So I'm sending mine in.
Have the exact same problem. I can't get to the wipe menu at all. Tried to open an RMA online a week ago and haven't heard anything. Going to call them today.

Help. My phone is stuck in a boot loop

So I was charging my phone, and it restarted itself and now it's stuck in a bootloop!
I can't access download mode or recovery, it keeps restarting before I have the opportunity to press any buttons (hardware or on screen) and removing the battery does nothing either, as soon as I put the battery back in, the phone resets without me even pushing the power button
I'm using Temasek CM11 v8 with the "201113-1248-cm11-i9300-r3p2-linux30101-BOEFFLA-temasek" kernel
Is it recoverable?
I've managed to get it into both Recover and Download mode briefly, but both times the phone restarted within a few seconds back to the bootloop
Sounds like the power button is shorted out, fairly cheap repair if so.

Thanks for the reply. What makes you think that it's the power button shorting?
Holding power button for 5 seconds acts as a hard reset, everywhere.
That's a good starting point actually. There's no reason for download mode to reboot automatically. If it loaded then it waits for the events. Either it works until you do anything with a PC, or doesn't work at all.
hi
try using a universal battery charger and then try again

Ah Well I suppose that makes it pretty conclusive. 2 hours later and it's still bootlooping... I'd take it apart but I don't really know what i'm looking for and I suspect if it's shorting, something will need replacing or soldering etc. Thanks very much

The issue of having it shortly resetting once reinstalled the battery sounds to me like a hardware failure, most probably hard resetting all the time.
A hardware repair should help fix this.

It's funny you say that, after hours and hours of trying to get my phone to work, somehow through more luck than judgement I managed to get it into recovery and flash WanamLite 7.2 (I figured it was the next best thing to stock, as I couldn't access download mode) and well... since then, touch wood my phone hasn't restarted itself even once... now granted in that time i've only touched the power button once, to turn on the device, but it seems like progress to me
So my question is, is it possible that I could of had a bad flash or something? It seems too coincidental to me, and I don't actually think the different ROMs have anything to do with the problem (that is still lingering beneath I suspect), but the optimist in me REALLY wants it to be fixed haha
EDIT: Oh and thank you tweetatoo for your reply

Interesting, thanks. It's just a bit confusing, it seems plausible because I flashed the ROM earlier in the day but at the same time, im not sure how much control the new ROM would have over the phone entering Download Mode... Mind boggling.
I'll keep an eye on it for a bit... and im still too scared to use the power button haha
Thanks very much
Download mode is entirely separate to the rom, I still think your power button shorted out (stuck down) as it's been reported many times before. If you have warranty then now would be the time to triangle away and return to stock for a while, just in case.

Xperia Z2 Death Experience

Dear All,
I have been using xda for long time as a user of the huge amount of knowledge in these pages...
Thanks to this community I got the most out of my samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy SII, Galaxy SIII and LG G2.
Now I have an Xperia Z2 D6503. I've been using it for a month and I love it.
But this is my problem.
2 days ago I was using the phone normally, I checked google maps and I put the phone under charge.
An hour later, I went to check the phone, and the phone was unresponsive: black screen, impossible to turn off/restart, no sound, no apparent activity. The only sign of life is a red led when I press the power botton.
The phone is with the original stock (firmware 17.1.A.2.69), I rooted it with a guide I found here (of course) just to use an app like android firewall.
I tried to search the forum for something like this, but honestly all I could find was something similar for the Xperia Z and what was proposed there to restart the phone didn't work (power+volume up).
I also tried to restart the phone with the off button inside the slot where the sim card is. That didn't work either.
Please let me know how can I move forward. As anybody else experienced something like this?
Thanks for your support!
Try flashing official firmware with flashtool maybe? Maybe this will help, I don't know man.
and what about hard reboot, by maintaining power and volume up until the 3 vibrations?

I suggest you go back to stock using flashtool, use it for a while just stock and see if this happens again. If it does, there's something wrong with your phone, but i don't think that's the case.
Try and tell us.
diego9016 HugePotato thanks for your answer! is there any way I can save my data first before flashing?
sensei_sai how do I perform the hard reboot? if I press power and volume up the phone does 3 vibrations, then nothing. what next? how do I hard reboot?
thanks for your help!
I'm currently travelling but when back home in a week I'll definitely go back to stock. But in the meantime, I'm so anxious to save the data stored in the phone.

I figured out a way to use the companion app to go back to stock. When you get to the part in repair my device to connect your device, phone must be plugged in.
Hold the power button and volume up, once you hear the 3 vibrations let go of all and hold volume down. You will see a red light and then a green one. You're phone now in download even though there nothing on the screen.
Let me know if this works for you.

flashing logo

Hi guys, I'm sincerely apologizing if this is the wrong place to open a thread about something like that, I couldn't figure out where else to write down my issue. I've been told here are people that know the most about devices and that someone might be able to solve an issue I got with my Samsung s6 Edge. The samsung support has been not helpful at all and it's either sending it to them to repair it and loose all my files or at least before doing that at least trying to save some of my personal files. The problem yet is that I can't even get into my phone. I was charging it at night and suddenly I saw a flashing Samsung Logo on screen with a blue LED that flashes as well. So the device had to be turned itself off and then it was restarting but it couldn't get pass the 2nd SAMSUNG loading Screen and got stuck. That's all. From then on I wasn't able to do anything with it. First I thought it may be making some updates, but then again I turned off my wifi before going to sleep. So that can't be the case. I waited hours, because I was hoping it might get pass it at some point but it didn't. While waiting I looked up tutorial to fix it but nothing seemed to work out and then I called the samsung support which basically just told me to turn it on and off without any real solving advice. So here I am. desperate to just save up the last photos and that's it. Does anyone know a solution that won't mess with my guarantee.
Thanks for reading if you made it up to here,

Hey
1st did you use google photos and enable syncing? If so all pics will be saved in the cloud.
2nd the only fix is to do emergency firmware restore via Samsung smart switch. It won't mess with your guarantee but you will lose all data on the phone.
3rd you can manually flash the stock firmware with Odin.. Doing this you will lose your guarantee and all data.
Before you do anything power off the phone. Then when off hold home, power and vol up. It will boot to recovery menu... Press wipe cache partition then reboot phone. See if that works.
If not hold only vol down and power.... As soon as it boots release power and continue holding vol down until its fully booted up on home screen.
Let me know how you get on

Learned my lesson tho and will make sure to always have it on from now on. As for now the solution didn't help. After following your good advice my phone decided not to go with it and brought me back the same flashing samsung logo and blue light. :/

Sorry to hear that :/ what exactly did you try? The wipe cache? If you want step by step instructions to flash stock firmware I'll be happy to help. Either that or take it to Samsung with your guarantee.
