Is battery life in ics better than in gingerbread? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like the title states, is the battery life better in ics than in gingerbread?
Would appreciate some help on this.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

For every noob who posts a new ICS related thread on XDA, battery life decreases by 1 minute. We're down to only 5 minutes of battery at the moment and I wish you'd stop, it's frustrating having to be tethered to electricity 24/7.
When it's officially released, flash it and find out the correct answer.

Battery life on ANY device is totally subjective to the user....

Short answer no. The ICS leaks are not official so no surprise

agreed
either wait for official ics or try a leaked rom, everyone uses their device in a different way so its impossible to answer your question....

I'm not a noob...I just didn't know the answer to a question. Last time I checked that meant I'm human, so I don't appreciate you bringing this attitude when all I did was ask a simple question which required a simple answer.

As an experienced user, you should know there are so many variables that determine battery life which make your question almost impossible to answer. There is no rom X is more battery friendly that rom Y, regardless of what version of Android it is.
That's the point other people are trying to make & which you're not getting.

Honestly bro, from personal experience, I just try out the ROM and see whether battery life is better or worse. The way I use my phone is different from others, so try out the ROM first and test it out. Won't hurt to try.
plus, testing a ROM yourself will allow you to gain hands-on experience which may prevent you from asking questions that people may bash you on.

Depends on your phone Set-Up, but honestly i did some battery test before with same widgets, theme and apps.. and i get more battery life with Gingerbread, remember they are leaked versions.. No official, Beta version for me!

I know all about that mate. Its just that usually if there is an upgrade in the os then the battery life gets better as well. I've watched pocketnow videos in YouTube and I heard that Android 4.0 has a better way of dealing with ram and such. So naturally I thought better ram management equals better battery life.

Nice sense of humor. Seriously there are so many review threads of each and every leak. All have answered this in some form or other.

If you want more battery, try undervolting you cpu. This seems to help.
See:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1101355.html

For me it's really better with ICS
I'm using Resurection Remix ROM v9.4, make some trick with betterbatterystats

yes
it is faster if you have a stable ics rom

I would say it's the same for me at the moment, i am using CM9 Codeworkx, but as the rom gets more stable the battery life is getting better. My battery life when using stock Gb was pretty poor anyway.

[Discussion] LG Optimus P500 Official ROM 2.3.3

There are so many question being asked about Official updates in ROM thread. Some of them being answered and some them lost in middle of hell lots of queries. So i thought it's better to make a Question/Answer or discussion thread, where new member can ask their quires and senior members, DEV can help them out. By this we all can fulfill our curiosity regarding updates and can keep ROM's thread clean.
But its the dev section!

Moderator already moved this to general section. Shoot your question to get help.
it's better than froyo. I like it but lg theme sucks.
Is possible to change the theme to the original Gingerbread Thema?
I think I have found same for Baltic countries here:
Code:
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP500/ABALSV/V20b_00/V20B_00.kdz
It is also Forbidden and probably will release soon.
I'm on official 2.3.3 and believe me, it's not worth it. I'm coming from CM7 and i think it is a dissapointment. The only benefit is the battery life, which is incredible. Never experienced such a battery life on any rom i had, but in any other aspect, not worth it. Even if it's official and bugless, i am quite eager to perform the root again

Ok, Why? What did you not like on 2.3.3? Can you elaborate?
But GB IS NOT OFFICIAL YET for p500, and I read that the leaked version is buggy, but is this case we just have to wait some more days till final release (official) is ready..............
However hail to andy....

The performance is better than at froyo, more than double, yes the touchscreen bug is fixed, but it seems slow and the visual appearance is kind of ****ty.

Incredible?!?!
I'm experiencing high battery drain at night, in idle. From ~30% @ 1.00a.m. to 8-6% @ 10 a.m. Happened this night and the night before.
One of these days I'm gonna throw it in the garbage bin and go get myself a real phone
I returned after only 24 hours to mik'os 6.5.5...

Battery life results

I apologize for I know that similar threads have been created but the last one is fairly old. I have mostly been running AOKP for the last few weeks but I recently tried out serendipity- I'll say that I do prefer an AOSP style rom over a samsung rom. I do like customization but battery life is a priority to me. Can someone please give some input to what rom/kernal/governors are being used to maximize battery life?
There is no simple answer to this question. All Kernels and ROMs are good - please refer to Entropy's battery drain thread for common issues affecting battery drain.
Some kernels however offer UV ability e.g. Siyah which allows u more flexibility.
Having said this I saw about the same battery life on most of the ICS roms I tried.
I am currently evaluating custom GB roms to see if the battery life is better.
Aokp and fluxxi. Pegasuq governor or something like that. Don't expect any other help from people. Smh

Thank you, I will try the fluxi kernel. I know i'm most likely only to receive an open-ended answer at best. It's just that honestly I have tried different combinations on my own without too much success

Sure that works for you but other kernels/governors are better for other people. That's what we're trying to get at so there's no need for a smh.

Yeah I understand that, it's just you would think that several people might say "woah hey this particular kernel has amazing bettery life!" But apparently that is not the case...

we've trained most not to say crap like that. its all dependent on user, apps, and device.
just play with them, find one that works best for you and your setup.

Biggest issue

My biggest issue with my ROM is essentially the battery life.everything else is amazing ( nice job objection creators). So the question I pose, with the official releaser of Ics is the battery performance better? Same?
Can we expect the battery life to increase street some good devs get their hands on it. Other then that....excellent job so far gentlemen.

I mean not THAT much difference between official ICS release and what devs already had so......
Imo only thing that can truly help is undervolting since we now have source
But even without that you will still have folks claiming they get 72 hours off a stock battery
So "battery life" is all relative to how you personally use your phone

i thought it wasnt a problem cause i asked in terms of battery life..
Too many variables determine how much usage you're going to get out of a charge to be able to definitively say "rom/kernel X" will give you the best battery life.
That's why these threads are frowned upon (essentially a waste of time; you won't have the exact same experience with a given rom/kernel as me).
Only way to get great battery life is to read/learn/tweak/read some more/tweak/etc/etc. All the info you need is on this site, you just have to do a bit of digging to find it.
for me stock roms always have best battery life..
yeah asking a question like whats the best rom is stupid but he asked a concrete question, whats the best rom in terms of BATTERY LIFE. i think its legit but im not a mod to decide. still, it hasnt been removed so i think im right. im also curious btw. thats right u can tweak a lot and improve batt life but there are definetly better roms for battery life, there are some with good performance, others have great features etc.

[Q] Help - poor battery

Hi, I need some battery help, this is my first android phone after running with ios for the last 4 years, I'm using th S3 and loving it however I'm having to charge the phone twice a day. Like I say this is my first android so rooting is new and I unsure what I'm doing here. I've followed plenty tips to save battery life but it's still running down too quick.
After 3 1/2 hours of very little use my battery is at 70%
Standby has zapped 24% of that
Screen another 24%
Internet 21%
System 12%
OS 8%
These safe the main culprits for the battery use, I understand you can do something when you root the devise, any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks
This should be in the Q&A section, but please be specific as to what exactly you were doing? (Gaming, browsing in 3g or wifi, etc.) If you just got the phone however, just wait for about three and four days and the real battery life would start to emerge. This is the time when most phones can actually last for almost a day or two. Another thing is that you should download Better BatteryStats and find apps that give the most wakelocks. Just take a screenshot and upload it here if you need help. And live wallpapers and widgets do cause some unnecessary battery drain.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I've had it since release. I hoped that JB would fix the battery. I'll try and get a screenshot later
maybe something stopping your device from going into deepsleep.
One use Better Battery Stats ,
Two read the multitude of battery threads .
Basics .

I think he's talking about underclocking the max cpufreq to 800 mhz when you're sure that you're not going to be using the device for a while. I think it's a pretty good idea actually, but certainly not practical for everybody especially heavy users like me

Yeah. I sometimes do that when im not near a charger and my battery is dwindeling. Anything less than 800mhz is pretty bad though when your used to the rapidness.
Looks like im selling this badboy anyway. Hopefully get a lg nexus next week. It seems to me that to acheive proper butteryness you have to use toichwiz ui. None of the cm10 or even when i use nova or any other launcher. None of are as smooth as tkuchwiz.Im mad for mods and flashing so think its time for a switch.

Thinking of the same too actually. But based on the rumors, I hear more nexuses coming from other OEMs are to be actually revealed rather than just from lg. Although if the nexus 4 really does come with just 8gb of internal storage without a microsd slot then I'm sticking with my S3. Although I hear that new parts of code are already starting to show up in the Origen-board-something for exynos processors, this might turn out to be a gamechanger for our problems with cm10 or other pure android goodies.
