There shouldn't be any spaces in the name of the backup file

[Q] Changing backup name

Hey all. I wanted to know if it was ok to change the name(s) of my backups in my CWM file from my PC. I'm not a fan of ROM manager and usually do my backups via CWM but it names it by date/time and when I get home I'd like to rename it so I can remember which darn backup it was.
If you rename nandroid backup that was created by CWM, you might get some MD5 errors when restoring that backup.
What you need to do is use ROM Manager for backup, and when you select "Backup Current ROM" you can name your backup and it will be fine.
Next time, use the Search
I found the answer here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623348

Sorry, but I did search and the only problem I read about was you couldn't put a space in the new file name. I just renamed my 2 backups and restored with no MD5 errors. I just wasn't sure with the newer CWM version.... Thanks for the reply though.

I have been renaming my backups with spaces with no problem. i think its a little weird that you might have an issue if you were to rename them with a space

[Q] Difference between NANDROID backup

What's the difference between doing a NANDROID backup and having a copy of the stock rom on your PC to flash via ODIN? I went from stock to CM7 without making a backup and instead got a copy of the stock on my pc.
i'am a n00b here......
but i think nandroid backup is save EVERYTHING on the internal memory......
including installed apps, contact, message......

I think the same too.
NANDROID backup backups everything on your internal memory, you apps, settings, data, your rom, everything.By telling having a copy of the rom on your PC,I think you mean that you have a copy of the firmware on your PC.Its not the same at all, where is the data and all your apps?NANDROID can do that
Or you could take individual copies of all of your apps and setting using titanium backup.

Thanked for the info. And yeah, I have a copy of the firmware on the PC and all my apps and settings backed up by Titanium. So I'm guessing I should make a back up as soon as I get back to my stock rom just in case, right? And what if I decide to make a copy of the CM7 I'm using now instead of the stock rom? Does it work the same?

[Q] CWM Recovery question ! ( URGENT ) !!!!

Guys i have a karbonn A21 running ICS 4.0.4
I recently flashed its newly compiled CWM recovery 5.0.xx version ( 5.0.2.8 is full name i guess)
When i try to backup my rom.. it backs up my system image... everything but when it comes to backing up of data .. it gets stuck at the last on a file tombstonenocrash01 .. and after some time the phone reboots itself.
When i check my backup folder in clockworkmod there's about 435 MB of backup data in there including recovery.img , boot.img , data.ext4.tar and system.ext4.tar .
I just wanna ask that is the backup of my rom Complete and is it safe to restore that backup without any errors ?
Because it didnt show " backup complete" and rebooted itself automatically while backing up data in the end .
Help me please !!!
I would not recommend to restore this backup. I don't think it is consistent.
Try the following:
Open your file manager and go to /data/tombstones. Delete tombstonenocrash01 and try backup again.

Dont you think it might cause a system crash by deleting that file ? Cause its in the android data folder( not on the sdcard) . There are three of those tombstone files. When i extracted my backed up data.ext4.tar i saw those three files are present . And moreover the size of data folder in android directory is same as that of backed up data.ext4.tar .
What should i do ? Restore or not ?
I am scared cause at the moment we dont have any stock rom for the device and if i restore the device and problem crops up then my device is gone. Suggestions please
I wouldn't use that backup ....it will tell you when backup is complete .......and it doesn't look like yours is
Your phone is still working ??? I would download a stock rom or another rom for your phone and copy it to sd card at least you can
use cwm to install it
Hope this helps

As I wrote, don't restore.
For deciding to delete the tombstone files you might want to know what they are for:
If one of your apps crash (forced close) such a tombstone file is created. It is kind of a system dump to search for the error. Maybe some apps crashed in the past on your phone.
Always remember:
Files in /data are configuration files. If you format/wipe data in CWM recovery and reboot, your system is still okay. Wiping data only leaves you without configuration of the apps you have installed.
So don't panic, deleting tombstone files does no damage to your system.

Deleting tombstone files doesnt help. It's still getting stuck at backing up data . Recovery's fault i guess

Did you start the backup from the app itself? md5 checksum mismatches happen a lot when you do... nandroid backups should ALWAYS be done via the recovery menu to avoid this problem. I'm afraid md5 checksum errors are non-recoverable, but do not take my word for granted
As for the titanium backups, check the /extSdcard/data/com.keramidas.titaniumbackup folder is there and has not been moved or modified in some way (remember titanium backs up to the internal phone memory by default, if you flashed another ROM and didnt backup this folder the backups wont be able to be restored)

It will just make a backup of your stock rom or custom rom including your photos, apps, music, etc
Nandroid backup is backup all your data (system and rom too) except SD Card Nandroid backup uses .zip .tar.gz file, Nandroid backup will be created as a flashable zip and Titanium Backup (.tar.gz) so, if you lose your data you can flash through CWM and Titanium Backup but if you stop the operation of making a flashable zip (like App2Zip) or it stopped by system, you can't using that flashable zip becouse the file is not fully maked to .zip (even Root explorer can't open it)
okay that's it (SORRY MY ENGLISH IS BAD BECOUSE I'M INDONESIAN AND I'M A CHILD THAT HAVE A EXPRIENCE OF ROOTING :silly: )

Send from my GT-S5282
Hit Thanks if my reply HELPES YOU
I used titanium backup but i think flashing through cwm will easier and faster.. Gonna try app 2 zip
If i helped you please hit thanks
Tit Backup is faster if u hv a 100 apps installed. It takes about 1.7gb of space and my rom takes 400mb so total 2.1
if i take a nandroid backup it takes about 4gb. so u know im saving a llot of space
also if my device gets messed up i can either flash my rom or just use odin and then titanium backup magic.
also to change rom while retaining all the app data titan... all da way
How do u backup and restore your rom in titanium backup?.. And wat is an update. Zip..,?
If i helped you please hit thanks
Why is so difference in size between titanium backup and cwm
Sent from my GT-S5282 using XDA Free mobile app
Okay this why the size are different
Titanium are using BusyBox and data are included
And CWM is zip that compress data but update-binary is about 250 KB and CWM is a single zip with some files (including multi apk and data < data is optional) inside dont like TiBckp(Titanium) That use only single app and data only
