USB jig not working on XXLPH - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

USB jig not working on XXLPH.
Is it Ok. Because after I downgraded to GB ROM, it worked.
How to reset the counter on XXLPH
Currently using XXLPH wanam lite v8.9 ROM

You can use Chainfire's TriangleAway http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22463153
You need to be rooted of course. Read the first post before using.

I know the triangle away thing. But that is risky (mentioned by Chainfire). So is there any other alternative?

I think It's only dangerous if the information about counter and triangle are wrong and you still use it
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9 using xda app

Yep, I'd say everything requiring root is dangerous unless you know exactly what you're doing (or at least the dev whose app you're using knows what he's doing).
Hence, ALWAYS read all the instructions and all threads about the mod or app you are going to use with root permissions.
-LP-

Yep. You could flash the old bootloader (search for it) & your jig will work. But as others have said, there's a very small risk involved. As there is using Triangle Away.
Up to you, red pill or blue pill ?

[Q] Confused with S2 process / keeping warranty

Hi,
First post in this forum but have been on XDA for a while now (galaxy ace/note). Did look for this before posting. My wife has an S2 and it recently updated (via kies) to ICS. Its the UK (H3G) carrier version. Im not new to rooting/roms/flashing etc as have flashed my old galaxy ACE countless times CM7/9 etc.
I understand the S2 has a custom flash counter which could screw up warranty.
She hates this (H3G) ICS as it has quite a load of bugs. (Freezes lots etc) and I was wondering the following:-
1 - Do you need to root the s2 to flash via ODIN?
2 - Will flashing a stock ROM from sammobile increase the flash counter?
3 - If so will triangle away work to get rid?
She is not keen on the warranty being void but will happily go back to GB if I can do it for her.

You can root using odin, flashing anything will increase your counter and Triangle away does work but it can hard brick you phone at the same time.

Cheers for the quick reply. The first question was do you need root for odin? is Triangle away that risky?
A. No.
B. No.
C. No need if not rooted as flashing official firmware package will not increase the counter. An insecure kernel will.
Just follow Intratech's official firmware thread. Has all the instructions you need.

If you want to remove the triangle and reset the counter you can use a jig usb and after flashing the old bootloader

Flashing the stock Rom = No Triangle
I flashed the leaked version of ICS using ODIN and didn't get the flash count triangle, It wasn't until I flashed the edited stock kernel that allows root (without effecting the rest of the phone) That I did.
But using Triangle away got rid of it and I feel the major warning message may be a little overkill as it only took a second and it doesn't even reboot the phone.

about triangle away

Is it true that triangle away only works with ICS? I'm on 2.3.6 and I want to remove the yellow triangle. If so, please give me a link for stock kernel of XWKF1
yes it works only on ics,r u on gb or ics?
Yes it requires ics
Flashing your stock kernel will remove the yellow triangle but will not reset the counter

Ok do this, flash GB stock ROM, after that flash cm9 using cwm. After that use triangle away, if you survive this I'll stop posting this.
Edit:

The solution comes with the new kernel uses by ICS builds. The flash disk actually has two hidden boot partitions, /dev/block/mmcblk0boot0 and /dev/block/mmcblk0boot1 . The MMC driver in the kernels used for Gingerbread did not present these partitions in the past, the MMC driver in the ICS kernel does.

Good to know that, I take boot partitions as where boot loader must be. Will be editing my posts...

[Q] Were can i find the original ICS bootloader

Hi there,
I am using ICS 4.0.3, i have a USB JIG and i want to use it to reset the flash counter and get rid of the pesky triangle.
From what i found on the website i understand that i will have to flash the ‘old’ gingerbread bootloader to get the JIG working with ICS.
I am using this ICS rom I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XENLP3.
I have two questions
1) Will the ‘old’ gingerbread bootloader work with the above mentioned rom?
2) Were can i find the original ICS bootloader to bring my phone to its initial state in case i need to claim guarantee.
Thanks in advance for your answer
Greetz Henk
Just use triangle away app to get rid of counter and triangle on ics.

you said triangle away worked, the reason i said it was not tested and highly dangerous was because no one even tried on i9100g so thats why.my question is this will it work with i9100g with rootbox ics with cm based kernel?
also eng.mohamed851
are you in ics or gb because triangle away works only for ics.
Triangle Away does not work on I9100g.. It says MAGIC HEADER NOT FOUND.
May be we need to request its developer to make it compatible with I9100G also..

Why do people continue to post offtopic crap in development sections?
This forum is for developments, not questions or general discussion or the "I cant use search button" forum
Questions go in Q&A.
Discussions go in General.
Developments, ie ROMS, Kernels, Mods, Reference etc goes in appropriate device dev forum.
How hard is that to comprehend???

How to install old bootloader and reset counter?
I have a Galaxy s2 GT-I9100 and unsuccessfully attempted to root the phone and the counter is on 5.
Current state of the phone is that it can only access download mode.
Tried a jig, that didn't work. Next tried to install old bootloader using Odin this also failed.
Initially the phone was running ICS and I believe I must have attempted to install an incompatible root kernel.
My intention was to reset the binary counter and then use Kies to restore the original firmware.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Little help please

Could do with a little advise. I have rooted in the past, most recently my HTC desire. I used to flash roms all the time.
Anyway I have decided to root my s2 and I am having problems. I root view odien and everything goes fine but when it reboots everything is the same and have no root access? any ideas?
If it helps I did the manual ics update a while back, don't know if that has anything to do with it?
Thanks

You're not really explaining the steps you took to root. Flashing a CF-Root kernel through Odin would usually do the job if you want to maintain stock ROM. Otherwise, flashing a custom ROM would also give you root access as most ROMs come with it built in.
I strongly suggest you explain further what steps you took to flash. Because root view odien doesn't say much and is quite confusing.

You should know by now to post the details about your phone.
I could say flash siyah-s2-v4.1.5 via odin(which gives root/perm cwm and safe kernel).
But I wont til you post the details.....

It has always been my preference to root through a custom kernel... If you do decide to go this way, download siyah v4.1.5 and flash it through the PDA section of odin.
Also, as theunderling said, please post your phone details before flashing.
Flashing this kernel will grant you root + permanent CWM
My phone is on 4.0.3. Kernel XXLPQ. so can I just flash a custom ROM and it will root my phone. Its not like it used to be with my htc desire.

Do as theunderling and poroto mentioned. Download the TAR version of siyah v4.1.5 from www.gokhanmoral.com and install it via Odin the same way as mentioned in the tutorial link you posted. (Instead of cf-root, use siyah) Do this and you will have root. Then you can flash a custom ROM.

If you followed this tutorial you are already rooted on 4.0.3. If you want to upgrade to 4.0.4 I recommend to flash a stock 4.0.4 via odin then Cf-root (or other prerooted) kernel to have root, custom CWM recovery and be safe from brick bug. Then flash desired custom rom. Yes, custom roms come usually with root.

No you don't. Flash the TAR ( NOT zip.) version of siyah or dorimanx kernel via Odin. You don't need CWM for this. Once you install one of these custom kernels you will have root and CWM and can then install a ROM and whatever else you want via CWM.

It happens everytime you flash custom software to your phone via PC odin.
Use Triangle Away app from Google Play store to remove it. However read carefully the app instructions before you use it.
