[Q] launcher that can hide apps - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

hey guys,
so i have a prime
currently updated to ics.
and well i will be sometimes giving my tablet to my brother to play games on and stuff.
so i was thinking i would change the launcher and hide the apps i don't want him accessing.
i'm not too fussed about the performance of it. but would be a bonus.
also i can't use adb, as i am planning to make hubs for myself.
so anyone know a launcher that can hide apps that works on ics?
please help

Search for SwitchMe in the market. It will allow you to create totally separate login for your brother which will not see any of your apps or settings. He can even set it up with his own gmail acct and install his own apps without affecting you.
SwitchMe requires Root, but is worth it and works very well

QuickDesk on 1.2?

Has anyone tried QuickDesk on 1.2? I tried and it just crashes to the homescreen (after first going through the walkthrough/setup). I would really like to use this, since I like things being as simple as they can be (this way I actually read books on the thing).
Right now I'm running 1.2 rooted with no custom launcher and using smarttaskbar to access other apps that don't show up in the apps menu. But I really don't like that app very much.
Any ideas for how to get QuickDesk to work? Or has anyone accomplished it?
P.S. - my preferred way of doing things would be for the apps to appear in the stock app menu, but I recognize that is most definitely not an in demand solution (and therefore don't want to pester people about it

There is an app that simulates a "reboot" without going to halt and restart the whole nook, you could try it since all apps shows in regular EXTRAS/APP after reboot at least used to back to 1.1.... dont know if works, but if you are really interested in not installing new Launchers, you should give it a shot... the name of the app is Fast Reboot i believe... good luck!
The way that apps that are sideloaded show up in 1.2 seems different than 1.1 and earlier. You have to use an alternate launcher to access them.
I found another alternative: I'm using swipepad with the "AppLauncher" addon. I can access "quick apps" and then also a full list of all of my apps without having to use a Launcher other than the Nook Home screen.

how do i uninstall applications?

like widgets? such as "apmobiles", seems to be a newspaper sort of thing i will never read. i also can't uninstall social/music/gaming/book hubs? i'm in the setting/applications/manage applications bit.
i want to basically delete a LOT of apps then only install what I need? i'm new to smartphones, moved from a nokia keypad phone. so the galaxy s2 was a massive jump for me.
Have a search for titanium backup and root. You'll need to root your phone 1st before you can 'freeze' but not remove apps.
The phone is brand new and it will take a while before custom roms that let you remove apps are available.
If I were you I'd wait before rooting as it is still a bit complicated and simpler methods will come along soon, I'm sure. I'd use the time to read the guides and get familiar with the phone.
Bear in mind that rooting/custom roms will lose you your warranty. Also, I'm not too worried about app removal as the phone has plenty of memory for my needs. Just remove the apps you don't want from the home screen and put on the ones that you do.
Edit: just wanted to clarify that I was referring to removing pre - installed apps.

Thanks for that, it's that I also noticed that there are services running in the background from applications that I'm not using, like I have the apmobile service running and also a social hub service running even neither is open. And I at least want to remove app shortcuts from the menu.
You'll need to root and freeze to remove the shortcut from the app drawer. I really wouldn't do that until you've read up and are confident though.
There are other threads about the social hub, have a search. I think you'll need to reset the phone and then not add any accounts if you want to stop it from being active.

To add-up about removing the widgets (probably you've found it already though), you only need to hold down the widget and slide it down to an area says remove
this phone comes with a built in task manager and a widget that shows you active tasks, i use the widget on my phone's desktop to close apps as needed ( i know the phone can handle it but its just my own thing lol ) and from there, there's a tab that lets you uninstall apps as well.
ofcourse you wont be able to uninstall those that came with the phone just yet.
I rooted mine which was dead easy and was my first time so you'll be fine. Download AntTek app manager from the market its free and lets you freeze, delete and backup any apps and widgets you want. You will no longer have any of those crap apps working in the background draining your battery. Hope this helps.
Edit: Oh yeah the built in task manager doesn't show system apps working in the background or at least not all so well worth freezing or removing them.

I would recommend reading the official XDA introduction guide to rooting that will answer all your questions and more on root found here. Let me know if you have any additional questions I'll be happy to answer them for you.

There are many articles on the internet that explain this. I'll give you the gist of them though:
Debloating. "Bloat" is unwanted/unneeded apps. They take up space, they slow things down, and they bug you for updates. You can't always delete what you don't want because these apps are installed by the manufacturer or carrier as "system" apps, rather than "user" apps. With root access you can uninstall system apps. Be careful in what you delete though, and always do a back-up first.
Back-ups. With apps like Titanium, ROM Tool Box, and Helium, you can do full back-ups of your apps. It's a good idea to do a back-up before updating some apps, as you might prefer the older version vs the new one. Or, you can back-up a game that doesn't save to a server/cloud and you don't lose your progress. And you can back up system apps before deleting them so you can always restore them if things go awry.
Ad blocking. With apps like AdAway you can block ads within apps/games and also ads within your web browsers. Besides making things cleaner and less annoying, this improves load times and reduces data usage because the ads don't have to load.
Customization. Root access can let you use certain apps to customize the appearance and function of your OS. Most notable is the Xposed framework, an extremely powerful tool that utilizes individual modules to not only change how your phone looks, but how it can fundamentally operate.
Performance. Even without a custom kernel, you can still use a kernel controller app to tweak your phone for better performance or better battery life. Exactly what can be done and by how much depends on the phone.
Free wifi tethering. There are apps that bypass your carrier and phone's built-in tether provisioning.
Tasker. Tasker is an app that can automate your phone to do whatever you want whenever you want it to happen. It's nearly limitless.

[Q] Android Apps Crashing

Hello, I am new to the forum so I apologize if this is not the correct place to post this. I am I need of desperate help with my Alcatel C1 (Android 4.2.2 Jellybean). Within the last few weeks A LOT of my apps seem to be crashing. Just some of the apps are: Text free Pinger, Dash clock Mini Notes. Inkpad, POP, and Clean Master. When they crash most of them will open for say about 60 seconds and then either exit the app entirely and take me back to the homescreen or sometimes they will just exit out of whatever I am doing inside the app and take me back to the apps main page.
This is extremely frustrating and have no idea of the cause. A lot of my apps DO NOT crash as well, such as UC Mini Browser, my email apps, file explorer, and showbox as well as others. Why are some of my apps crashing and some not?
I have a theory that it could be my launcher...I use Apex, the paid for version. Apex will crash everynow and then though not very often. But the reason I think its my launcher is because I downloaded the regular Apex launcher through the play store and then added the premium version of it through other means....
So what I'm saying is that the basic Apex launcher is official and downloaded off the play store, however, the paid for upgrade was not.
It still doesn't answer why I had zero problems for many months after downloading both Apex versions up until recently...
So, can anyone answer why some of my most used apps are crashing and could it possibly be problems with the launcher? Thank you in advance.
Oh, and also, my phone is rooted however I never did anything with my root access yet.
Someone please help ha...ANY advice or info at all would be GREATLY appreciated!
It very well could be do to your warez app. But as xda doesn't condone or advise the use of warez you will not find help here with it. My advise is remove all the warez and try again. Many apps are now programmed to look for things that allow warez and set. To cause random issues if detected.
warez?
Thank you so much for your response, however, what do you mean by "warez"...I'm sort of a noon when it comes to smart phones so please explain ha...do you mean the file i downloaded of Apex that wasn't "official"? Is that what the "warez" is?
Thanks again,

What I mean is "warez" is a paid app that one got for free from somewhere. The issue with this that most people don't take into account is that most of these paid apps when given for free are changed and malware, like keyloggers, screen recorders and data collectors are added to these apps.

I've rooted my Kindle! Now what?

Hey everyone!
With the help of the excellent guides on this forum, I was able to root my Fire HD 6 and install GAPPs. However, I'm relatively new to the Amazon ecosystem, and rooting in general, and I was wondering if I could get some help on a few tasks that would make my experience way better.
First, I need to be able to allow notification access to a few apps I use, but since I'm still using the restricted Amazon settings menu, I can't see how to do it. How do I access the vanilla Android settings menu?
Second, I would love to use a lockscreen like Echo, but when I swipe in, it just shows the Amazon Special Offers lockscreen. How do I disable the Amazon one?

LOL. Welcome to our world, where all roads lead to Amazon settings. Seriously, there's no such thing as a vanilla Android settings menu. I haven't tested latest OS, but on last version Push notifications tended not to work or to be very late--Hangouts didn't work at all. Other kinds of notifications (from Gmail, xda a few others) were pretty good. I'm doubtful anything's changed with this release, but you can try one of the Xposed modules that offer per-app notification settings. Might be something at the Play Store.

You can disable the ads and get Amazon's stock lockscreen wallpaper. See here. I've tried a few lockscreen apps and Xposed modules, but they either didn't work or made the lockscreen look wrong or behave badly. Maybe you can get something to work after disabling ads.
