[Q]Whatsapp fullsync issue - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There is recently some problem with whatsapp fullsyncing and causing massive wakelock even though i had switched off my internet. These only happened with the few latest versions of whatsapp
Anyone has similar experience?
The service causing the wakelock:
fullsync
com.whatsapp.Whatsapp

Same problem here except I'm on a galaxy nexus running aokp build 27 with Franco's kernal. Murdering my battery it is.

Same issue using galaxy s2

Hey guys,
Pls help!!!
I am using Xperia P and since an Update few days ago whatsapp has been draining my battery heavily!!!
I added a Screenshot! I lost nearly 30% in 3 hrs! Anybody know how to fix this?!
Edit:
I found out: manually killing the whatsapp task and rebooting the phone seems to fix the problem, at least for me and at least for now.

Seems like thats the case. A friend of mine had the same problem but he was able to fix it by killing the whatsapp task and deleting its cache. Anybody got sucessful by that too?
Note my edit above, I solved it with an additional reboot. Still wondering about whats the matter with whatsapp...

Same here, on a stock Galaxy Nexus.
Excellent update, Whatsapp, really ..

I'm experiencing the same issue. Over the course of a day, it's kept my phone awake for over 7 hours! WTH is going on.

Found this possible solution in the Nexus forum. I just did it so won't know immediately whether it works or not.

Go to settings, scroll down to accounts, tap on whatsapp. There you can turn off contacts synchronization, which is causing the wakelocks.
It will not interfere with your messages as this only sycs your contacts.
Do check once in a while if it stays of as with me it sometimes turns on automatically

I've had this since updating Whatsapp+ to v3.9D. Going back to 3.85D for now...

The issue is still there with the latest whatsapp update (2.10.768).
Also the workaround doesnt work for me anymore (disabeling the contact sync) even with the sync turned off, whatsapp went syncing overnight with my screen off(?!) It didn't turned sync on, but it went in "full sync" wakelock anyway...
I send an email to the whatsapp developers. I think (and hope) more people did this already, if this issue won't be resolved i will remove whatsapp messenger. This issue is just damn irritating and very bad for battery life (short and long term).

I'm experiencing this as well. I disabled contacts sync but the problem is that it turns itself back on.

Also have to say that i'm on a LG Nexus 4. Maybe i'm wrong, but it looks like LG & Samsung (Nexus models) phones on Android 4.2.2 are the only ones with this issue. In the Whatsapp messenger comments at google play this problem/bug is not mentioned either.
Don't know if you already found this out, but trowing it into the open anyways. Using 4.2.2 for only two weeks now, coming of 2.3.5.
Today i found out that there is another (hidden) "sync" option to be found via the google agenda/calender. Go to settings -> choose your google/gmail account -> Accounts and synchronisation. there is another option listed above the accounts i could't find earlier "Appdata/information aut.." (i think that stands for "Automatically synchronise app data").
Turning this off will mean none of your accounts will sync automatically anymore. I will check if this (temporarly) works overnight and report on that.
I'm thinking charging the device enables the bug. I'm thinking this because i looked at my phone over the rest of the day (wakelock detector) and the issue didn't occur.

Not true. I'm experiencing this issue on my S3 with a TouchWiz 4.1.2 ROM.

I have the same problem now on my HTC One running Android 4.2.2 and the current whatsapp+ version (Base Whatsapp 2.10.750)

Good news from my side.
With the app sync unticked via the google calendar the problem did not occur overnight after charging.
This temp fix looks like it's working for now.

where did you find whatsapp in google calandar? can you explain that a little? thanks

Just follow the steps i explained.
You will see a list of all your accounts. Whatsapp should be in that list. On the top of that list untick the app sync.
Note that my way works on a LG Nexus 4, you use a HTC. This has a layer over android that may have a different way to change settings.
Just look for your "auto sync" settings and put that off in general. This workaround seems to work for me.
EDIT: Unhappy to report that the problem came back right after charging my phone.

[Q] Official Facebook and phone awake

Just got my SGSII and I see that the offical facebook app is keeping my phone awake all the time, noticed when I disabled all the data communications at night ( I need to do that as I need my GSM to work but don't want my emails ).
Not sure if it does this if it has access to data communications.
Can anyone else confirm this behavior ?

How do you know that the official facebook app (there is one?) is keeping your phone up? Just curious so I may keep a look out for it.

Well, if I find the facebook app in the battery usage screen and click the app I see partial wake hrs is 9hrs.
I remember this being a problem with a previous version of the Facebook apparently but as far as I know it was fixed.
I'm not seeing any issues on my end. I take it you're using the *#*#INFO#*#* battery usage screen?

Facebook push notifications have stoppped... again!

My Facebook push notifications have stopped coming through. Nothing I do seems to work.
First I cleared the application data – a fix I found on Google (this fixed it last time it happened about 4 months ago).
Then I uninstalled the app, rebooted the phone (stock unrooted Vodafone SGS2, reinstalled but still no joy.
Can anybody please help?
Yep mine stopped too so I have actually turned back on email notifications, now that is reliable ...
I will soon ditch FB anyway so ...
How long ago did it stop? Mine stopped sometime Tuesday night.
Have you tired clearing the application data.

Same problem here, im on XXLPB they have not been working for the last 3 days
Generally it can be solved as-go to your main phone settings, applications, manage applications, facebook, clear data/cache. then open the app and resign in.
Also, in main settings, accounts & sync, is facebook enabled? is background data and auto sync checked?
in all the years ive had android Ive never had them working. I tried the Blackberry workaround last week and I received one notification and then it stopped again.
Back to Friendcaster, buggy but at least notifications work
For some reason facebook messenger has stopped notifying for me too.
Im using friendcaster -- some issue, but overally far more responsive than official app
Funny thing...
You wanna read something funny about this issues??
I own a Samsung Wave, the first one, and the social hub premium on Bada -its OS- does support Facebook with messenger and push!!!
I'm tired of asking Samsung support why the same functionality is not implemented in the social hub for android!!
The Samsung Facebook application for Bada works flawlesly, push, messenger, uploads, everything. Yet, on this device, Samsung's Flagship, social hub sucks big time, it sucks so much that users are left having to install other apps for the same functionality that could be already integrated into Android by Samsung...
Sorry for the OT, just venting a rant because I share the same push problems you do....

Google Finance not working

I have the Google Finance app on my Defy+. In the last few days I noticed that the ticker had stopped updating. Tapping on the widget gets me an incomplete share price page and the title line says "Loading" continuously - it never finishes loading
I tried uninstalling Google Finance and re-installing it from Play. The result of that was that I couldn't add a share to the ticker list at all
Fortunately I had a Ti backup of the app so I restored that, with its data, and I now have the share back in the ticker - but it's still not updating. I've tried adding a different share to the ticker and it just sits there with the sync icon in the notification area, achieving nothing.
It's as if Google Finance can't talk to Google any more. All my other network apps, including eg Google Maps, work fine.
Anyone got any ideas?
I have the same problem, but my prob only started midday today
I also have the same problem. No idea what to do.
---------- Post added at 08:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:29 AM ----------
Its like Finance has been dying a slow death. I haven't been able to get my widget to auto update at all for months on multiple phones. Now this. I really wish there was another compact widget that would simply give me the current dow. Time to move on. Anyone have any suggestions?
The app called "stocks" uses your google finance portfolios and seems to work still (indicating a server-side problem for google). I don't like it as much as Finance, but at least it works. Doesn't come with a widget, though
Thanks but I really need a home screen widget
---------- Post added at 01:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 PM ----------
I think it says something that we are the only three people across the world making noise after Finance goes non-functional for about 3 days now.
I thought it was surprising that no one complained when the widget quit auto updating months ago. Here it goes completely dead and hardly a word.
If anyone is interested, I tried most of the widgets and this one is the only one that seemed to work and auto updated in as little as 1 min increments per the settings.

I have the same problem
For the past few days It didn't update any stock quotes. I deleted data and uninstalled then reinstalled and now it doesn't even update my portfolio from Google Finance server and can't add new stocks or do nothing. It is completely non-functional now.
I'm also having the exact same problem on HTC Evo 3D.
- App wasn't syncing
- Deleted data and lost my portfolio
- Reinstalled and still not working
- Sync icon stays in the left hand corner but it does not update
The portfolio is still available on the full/mobile websites.
Same problem here with my motor RAZR Maxx. Widget stopped updating so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now I can't get it to sync with my saved stocks.
Hmmm... yesterday I needed to rebuild my Galaxy S2 phone (had tried a different OS and had problems restoring the original). I had deleted google finance 2 days ago.
Today I reinstalled Finance, just to see.... and it's working fine! Got my portfolio reloaded and replicates prices nice & fast!
Soooo either Google Finance just started working again for everyone, or the solution to the problems reported here is some sort of delete..wipe..reinstall cycle
Good luck ladies & gents.

Apparently no reinstall needed. Wonder if by some miracle auto update started working also. We'll see when the market opens.
I sent an email to the support email address in the app and now it's working. Maybe they do read those emails.
Yup, working for me again now. Must have been a Google problem. (I did e-mail them about it twice but didn't hear anything back.)
Now all I have to do is find the RBS stock mnemonic which gives me the real current price of RBS ordinary shares. I know they're not great but 7.45p sure ain't right...
Google's Problem
I second ejstubb's assessment. I initially uninstalled / reinstalled with no resolution. As of last night, it seems to be working fine, so i can only assume it was a problem on Google's end.
Does anyone except me care about the fact that the stock monitor widget has quit auto updating months ago? I guess no one uses it?

GTALK_ASYNC_CONN Wakelock - So Frustrating!

Since upgrading to 4.1.2 I'm suffering a bit with battery life. Looking at BBS, in the past 57 minutes my battery has gone from 100 to 92% I've had 242 wakelocks from GTALK_ASYNC_CONN_com.google.android.gsf.gtalkservice.AndroidEndpoint
Now when I was on 4.1.1 I suffered terrible battery life until I unticked "Use wifi to help determine location", and then I was averaging about 32-34 hours to a full battery (about 3% per hour), great! I was very happy with that. Now I'm losing 7-10% per hour and this wakelock seems to be the issue.
After Googling about a bit there doesn't seem to be a concrete solution, so any help is appreciated.

Maybe you can log out of GTalk?
It seems to be a Gtalk issue so why not log out of it ?
Better yet, just uninstall it for few days and observe the behavior.

Hi Eggman, thanks for your reply.
I should have mentioned in the first post, from what I've read it isn't actually Google+ that causes this, it's a general Google Account process, and to be fair I shouldn't have to log out of G+ to save battery, I don't with FB or Twitter. (I'm not shooting the messenger here)
Anyway, luckily I don't use G+ so it I have just loaded it up and logged out, let's see if it changes anything.
He says gtalk, you say g+... See the discrepancy?

Sorry, I thought Gtalk was just a byproduct of Google+, basically like Facebook Chat is to Facebook.
Well, either way I've logged out of Google+ and it's completely killed the wakelock. Weird.
Gtalk and google services like gmail were facing a widespread outage today. So that's why the wakelock. It'll get fine once the service resumes normally.

My girlfriends Nexus 4 had this wakelock and it was draining her battery pretty quickly. I monitored it for a bit and realised that at work she connects to a free wifi network which blocks the ports Google Service uses to sync. I told her not to use that wifi network anymore and the wakelock has gone.
Could it be something similar to this for you?

Yes at my work we have proxy connection wifi and I realised when wifi is on this wakelock is and when I'm on 3g it isn't. But the weird thing I didn't have this wakelock at all before 4.1.2 with the same situation.

Ive had this issue for a while now, its a massive wakelock compared to the rest of them!
The solution that worked for me, although I need help with it, is to disable all the 'gtalk' entries under Google Framework Services in the app called Autorun Manager.
Freezing the app, or logging out has no effect as its linked with Gmail and Play store.
HOWEVER, when i disabled these entries i therefore couldnt get gmail to auto sync anymore (didnt try play store).
SO, there are about 5 or so entries in the framework that have the word 'gtalk'. If someone could find the entry that disables this lock but still keeps gmail (and whatever else) working properly that'd be great.

From what I've personally seen, that wakelock is related to some as-yet-discovered google service doing it's thing over Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi only. When connected to my house's Wi-Fi, I've seen in a couple of times...but there is a mobile AP at my work and I am guessing they've locked things up tight and might be restricting certain traffic.... in any case, when I am connected to the APs at work, that wakelock GOES NUTS. I disable Wi-Fi... and POOF! the wakelock vanishes. As soon as I pop it back in, the WL cranks back up again. I turned off Sync and it still keeps cranking. I tried disabling google's backup, you name it.. still there. I haven't quite found out exactly what process is throwing that WL... is there a way to find that out?
Something seems to be trying to phone home over my Wi-Fi, can't, and its throwing up a WL while it keeps trying. But when I'm running over the Mobile network, it's happy as a clam and never heard from. Is there a way to find the exact process/service that is triggering this wakelock?

Horrible battery caused by facebook

I have no idea what's going on, and its extremely aggravating. I never use Facebook other than for when notifications show up, each of then pictures are taken of stats on a brand new s3 with a brand new AOKP ROM, and I have not even opened Facebook after a full battery charge and a reboot, and it still demolishes my battery.

If he uses Greenifiy he won't receive any notifications from Facebook because the App will be hibernated.
That's right, Facebook will only sync when you open it, this is what fast Facebook does (which is very popular as it's a lightweight ver different version). Facebook is a big hogger but if you want instant updates, guess you'll have to put up with it. You could try clearing data, running sdmaid on a regular basis and clearing Facebook files, that might help.
