There are so many trawling through all the posts would take ages, I know coming from an Incredible S, There was issues with cameras and video cameras not working which put me of as I use my camera alot. Any such issues with the SGS2?
The best ROM imho is the XXLPH Samsung leak - stable enough to use as a daily driver with only minor issues here and there. The many variants of this ROM should be all relatively stable too and useful if you dislike touchwiz/samsung apps.
By all accounts, Samsung are going to launch an official ICS soon (they said 1st quarter 2012), so it should be all good.
ICS
I use ICS v9.3 by westcrip, had no issues what so ever.
Good luck make sure you read all instructions you will have no issues.
Tapper OUT!
GB allows recording of phone calls with sgs 2 . I did not see any of ICS threads talk about this . Is there any ICS rom which allows call recording and without too many problems. I would like to try that. Thanks for the help
I suggest Thebyani Rom V3.2_ICS for SGS2
I highly recommend Thebyani Rom V3.2_ICS for SGS2, built on top of the latest XXLPH Samsung leak.
Super stable and a motivated and helpful developer and community
ICS Stable Official Samsung release is the best why stick buggy beta test roms on your phone when full release is due .

Nope, and it's going to stay that way until kernel source drops.
There's clear evidence Samsung didn't fix well documented and well known bugs in their ICS kernel, like the fuel_alerted wakelock bug.
15 seconds to fix with source, nearly impossible without.
You dont say ..!!!

hi all
i heard cm9 might be releasing fir the ace in the near future ..and i am pretty excited ...
but then again whats the pro's of having a cm9 rom? will it make the ace faster ?
i don't use rarely use stock apps ( music , launcher , video player ) so will i fully benefit from a cm9 rom ?
Cm9 is ICS rom...it will make ur ace do everything an ics device can....for now cm9 for ace is in alpha stage....ics is faster than 2.3 and holds a superb multitasking feature...and a very good ui....
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App
sweet!!! and i tot cm9 is only eye candy..
oh and what does alpha stage mean.?
Alpha is a stage of an ROM like how far from complete it is.
Here are some of the stages.
Pre-alpha -> Just started and running. - For Developers.
Alpha -> Not ready for daily use. - For members with a lot of experience.
Beta -> Normal members can start using here. - But still contains bugs.
RC -> Ready for use. - Very little if any bugs.
Nightly -> Generally it means an automated build that is done once a day, typically after the end of the day for most of the developers. For projects with developers in multiple time zones it's generally a compromise time. The idea is that everyone who is going to check in code "today" has done so, and the automated build will make sure that everything compiles, and hopefully run the unit tests and any other automated tests etc that exist, then produce a final installer/executable etc.
Maclaw's Alpha 3 is working good. But still contains lot's of bugs. - Such as flickering and no camera.
i like how you say "your mother can use it!" lol
and.... it's more than "a bit" of flickering. dont you agree? it's like a time back and forth flashing. like a busted time machine... lol ... btw, any idea when are the devs gonna release it?
Nope. You can never give a ETA. Depends on how many more bugs are found and how bad the bugs are. NEVER EVER ASK FOR AN ETA
One of the main reasons I want to use CM9 is for the browser and slick multitasking UI. Most people think it is just eye candy but it isnt. Other than a major graphical revamp, it is going to be much faster than stock 2.3.4 and CM7.
Android 4 links:

http://www.android.com/about/ice-cream-sandwich/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_version_history#v4.x_Ice_Cream_Sandwich
A lot of low-level work on optimising the frameworks has been done (hardware acceleration and graphics tweaks), though some of that will benefit from the newer Android kernel V3.x which I don't think the Ace will get quickly (current ICS alpha still uses the older V2.6.x kernels).
The UI is also much better designed!!!
But the biggest change is what developers will do with it, lots of new APIs means the best apps will be ICS only. This is the biggest thing, without ICS, Ace users will slowly only be able to run older apps...
Hello
I have just come from a htc sensation with an ICS rom with nova launcher, getting around 20 hours battery life and a no bugs ICS experience with nova launcher and a few tweaks such as miui battery bar, centre clock etc.
I am currently using pure ICS with nova launcher set the way I want and it's very good but the battery lasts about 8 hours and there are no tweaks.
Are there any other ICS roms with better battery life and some tweaks? I can always put nova launcher on top if it is not in the rom.
I don't use the phone an awful lot and have the exact same apps andwidgets as on my sensation, hence why the battery life is strange to me, is this normal for a sgs2?
I was using the same rom , then Andyx from both ics and battery life on both was pants, I then flashed cm9 experimental which is now on nightlies and I think its the dogs bollox, only downside is no USB connect to PC until they fix it, but using from manager premium you don't need a PC anyway everything is straight to the phone, a minor hiccup for an awesome rom

Have you got a link for that rom? I can't find it anywhere
Might as well wait for release of genuine Samsung ICS .

I have been using CM9 and it's working amazing only thing is you need to live with no MTP, video recording and certain other things I forget *thats what google is for* I highly recommend it!

you could try WajkIUI if you like MIUI im on this rom for 2 weeks now and i'm really impressed
you could also wait about 2 weeks for ics to be released officially by Samsung
Whatever happened to trying out ROMs for yourself......
ICS is so 2011 we want Jelly Bean
ALL ICS roms which I've tried are not suitable for day to day use. CM9 by codeworx was the best I tried. better wait for a stable release.

I don't want to try loads of roms, my main concern with my current one is the battery life so testing lots of roms isn't great for me as I need my phone at work, that's why I asked peoples opinions. I just want a nice ICS rom with a few tweaks and good battery life. I hate touch wiz so the official ICS update is no good for me.
The sgs2 is a lot faster than my sensation but with my current battery life I would rather swap back to the slower phone and get nearly three times the battery life.
There are also a lot of roms for the s2 hence why I asked people rather than trying loads and they also get updated nearly every day.
I suggest you don't go for ics just yet if your only real concern is battery and as for tw, tough luck I'm afraid.
Try the latest stock gb with neak custom kernels. Best battery life I ever had. Oh and on the subject of best roms, that's totally down to personal configuration.

Yes but ICS is a beta test rom base why not wait for roms to be built on the actual working firmware . I have yet to see one ICS beta based rom that does not have a problem or two and they tend to be random and varied judged by all the help ICS rom xxx dont work posts . Plus battery life is not that good on the leaks .
You might get ten replies that ICS zzz rom is good but wont see the hundred users that have removed it .

IMHO, best ICS rom out there. Using it for 5 days now (heavy user) - not a single FC in 5 days, very stable, fast, customization options rock! Battery life 12 hours really heavy usage / 24 hours moderate usage. No bugs, except video not saving and no FM radio, but these are known...
I've just been trying out GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XEULP5.tar from Infratech's stock ROM thread for the last day or so and have found it slow. Often I'll touch the screen and nothing will register or it will take a full second or so to respond. Starting apps can sometimes take up to two seconds before it seems to register. Scrolling long lists in various apps can sometimes show a small amount of lag on Gingerbread, but on this ROM it's horrific.
This can't be right can it? Is anyone else finding this? If this is progress in the name of ICS, I'll stick with GB.

I don't know about stock rooms but I'm on cm9 the latest nightly and its pretty slick to be honest. I can't wait until the wake locks are sorted but I just love it! I hate anything of Sammy stock firmware I think they are kind of clueless in that department but good in the hardware side of things. Also people have been talking about Sammy working on android 4.0.4 so that should fix any issues. Hope I helped you mate

I've been on cm9 for the last few months, and I have just dual-booted lp9 Samsung ICS rom yesterday, and I just couldn't believe how slow and laggy everything was in Samsung ICS rom compered to cm9 and Samsung gingerbread rom. The browser was horrendously laggy compared to Samsung gingerbread roms and the same issues as described by the OP. Also, the scrolling mechanism was just screwed up beyond belief. I really like the idea of switching between cm9 and Samsung roms when I feel like change, but at the moment I find all ICS Samsung roms, just unusable after using cm9. I hope Samsung fixes this mess in their next major update.
ICS 4.0.3 is not 100%
ICS 4.0.3 is not 100% perfect couple of issue are there.
Waiting for Samsung to Release 4.0.4 which will address many issues that are present in 4.0.3.
cm9 to me is draging ics behind it, when ics is improved cm9 will be mint ,im still on Gb but will flash when it gets up to 4.1.0 etc, i dont want these bugs in my daily life.
I'm using LP7, tweaked some cosmetic stuff, and I find it very fast and responsive. A friend recently changed from GB 2.3.6 to ICS 4.0.3 official via Kies and said (his words, not mine): its a whole new smartphone.
try cm9 buddy, best rom ive used atm
or you can try hydrogenics, its basically the same with some added tweaks.

ICS is smooth for me, very smooth. Don't use AOKP roms since lgcamera doesn't work well with them yet. Battery life is worse than sammy based roms as well, plus no dialer codes work. The only LAG I've gotten is with Quickpic. Don't know what the difference is between Quickpic on GB and this one on ICS but swiping across photos lags like hell and yet the stock gallery is now smooth like cream
For me, ICS is smooth as a baby's bottom, as long I stay on stock kernel. Once I flash a custom kernel, smoothness goes south. For this reason, although I like the fast charging feature in Siyah, I have to stay on stock.
dialer codes are working for me
cm9 is smooth as hell and more than stable for normal usage
yes, it is laggy. little better using Siyah.
No issues whatsoever when using AOKP roms. Try changing kernels.

I found a ROM that was receiving a lot of praise, called AndyX. It's using Siyah kernel if I remember right. I tried it and it was actually very good, nice and smooth, no complaints. It also has the ICS look I was expecting to see which was quite nice. You mention lgcamera not working on AOKP ROMs - I'd never heard of AOKP but have just done a quick google and may see what's kicking around for the S2. I know this is the wrong thread, but it's thanks to you I can now record video in 720p without in looking like a slideshow (lgcamera tips in another thread)
So, in summary, my initial choice entering the world of ICS just turned out to be a dud and there's hope yet.
EDIT: I may well go back to AndyX for a bit.. I had to restore to my normal GB ROM because I changed governor in AndyX and now the phone freezes before I can unlock it

AOKP is based off CM9 with other mods flung in (Look at Resurrection Remix or Hydrogenics) and they both run smooth. However I NEED lgcamera unless I get horrible FPS in the camera (looks like you know what I'm talking about lol). Just so you know, 1080p does work as well without lag just in case you didn't notice. I do prefer 720p though. No automatic zoom in like 1080p. I used to be on AndyX rom, quite some time ago actually
I came from Gingerbread KL1 & updated to LPG, gotta say even though I had the phone for 4 days (on GB) the lag is very much noticeable on ICS! The phone was just blazing quick everywhere but it just *feels* different now...

So, I'm not an Android N00B or even a CyanogenMOD N00B -- I'm just a Motorola N00B. I've been hacking CM9 on HTC and Samsung phones for years so I don't need any "how-to" help.
I've gone through the forum here and I can't make heads or tails about what the general consensus is about different ROM's.
I don't need (or even want, really) Jelly Bean so I'm looking for a pretty vanilla (but solid) CM9 ROM.
Also, are there any issues with different radios and call quality? I ran into that a lot on the T989 (TMobile Galaxy S2) and I'd like to avoid it if I can.

Performance, working features and stability have come along way since cm9. I'd be looking at epinter's cm10 or cm10.1. But there are camera / video camera issues with all including cm9. If you want cm and with all things working then it would be cm7. Once we have a new kernel the cm9/10/10.1 roms will finally be fully optimized.

ICS ROMs based running on the leaked kernel are pretty good too, and include all the features except fingerprint reader and Lapdock support, the cons may be the battery life (Sometimes problematic AFAIK) and stability (Only for a little handful of users).
There is a CM10 ROM based on the leaked kernel but it's no longer under development, I think you'll prefer using ICSrom in that case.

What is overall the most stable rom that actually has up to date android features? I was reading the CM10 issues log and stuff like "can't receive calls when bluetooth is on" is just an instant turnoff. I know every custom ROM is going to have issues, but what is overall the best balance of modern and stable for the Droid X2?
I'd like at least 4.1, but I know the world isn't perfect.
Well since we are sadly on a locked bootloader it makes it difficult for us; The most stable roms are Gingerbread. CM7 is pretty good and is running android 2.3.6 i believe. Eclipse is pretty good and smooth but cm7 has overall more features. CM10 would probably more stable than cm9 but cm10 sadly gets some force closes(i never experienced this when i was using it )

4.1 is the furthest we have gotten. cm10 is 4.1 , cm9 is 4.0 . cm10 is WAY more stable than any ICS build we have. i use it as a daily, and if you dont use many apps, and can stand a bit less battery life, it is totally worth it.
it has curbed my want/need for a new phone.....or atleast until november!

I used the CM10a3 port and my gmail app was WICKED unstable, a flick scroll would not FC it but it would just close. I LOVED google now but due to compatibility*? issues i could not update it with anything google released. I currently run eclipse, although older has been the most stable, battery efficient, and usable rom on my DX2.

You know, with all the apps, launchers, keyboards, themes, etc., you can probably be pretty happy with a stable gingerbread ROM and make it look and feel like ICS or JB.
I'd run cm7 with holo launcher for that jb feel

at this point, i have been using cm9 for a few months due to the phone call issue present in cm10. whenever the screen turns off due to the proximity sensor ( holding it to your face) the call is lost and the phone freaks out. this is a phone. so that would not work for me. cm9 has better battery life, and a few more apps work with it. from what it seems, DZK has abandoned us. our only how on a better JB is g2yupie working out his 4.2, and it not having the same phone call issue. i say try out cm9. unless you dont make many calls. also, it doesnt do the proximity thing if you are plugged in. but any other time, under any other circumstances , it does. there is no work around.
