Hello,
Does anyone know of an app that notifies by waking up the screen or something visual even in standby mode? I work in a pretty noisy place and often won't feel a vibration so it would be ideal to have the SGP on my desk and visually see when a new email arives in my gmail inbox.
I saw an app called NoLED...
...but it does not work for my SGP
Thanks!
Try NotifierPro Plus.
Instant notifications with
sound, vibrations, lights and the screen will wake up everytime there's a new alert.
I have it on my SGP 5, it works pretty well.

Thanks! Looks like this will work.
Now that I'm asking...anyone know of an app that's free?
NotifierPro is free.

I have been using NoLED since it was a beta, now the app is on the market with a lot of customization. You can put different colors for sms, call, emails, etc.
Sometimes the application doesn't work proper. Maybe is me. I LOVE IT don't get me wrong.
I was reading and came across another application is call Missed Message. This application turn on and off the screen when you get a notification. I am using this application for a week now and is very effective.
What I like about NoLED is the color.
What I dont like about NoLED is that if you dont realize it will drain your battery.
What I like about Missed Message is that does do job because the screen on and off is very noticeable. Also that you can set up the intervals of on and off after certain time and after 5 hours it just stop workin
What I dont like about Missed Message is that is not customization.
What do you think about this apps. Which one are you using?
I haven't tried missed message, but I have used noLED. The potential was there, but it was just too buggy for me. I'm bout to give missed message a try. I was using sms popup. It worked quite well.
does it blink the whole screen? I wonder if it would be possible to blink a pixel lol

It blink the whole screen. You can make it blink for how many milisenconds you want and how often.
i think the newest version of noled lets you customize how long the app keeps showing missed items so you dont kill your battery
NoLED is better. You can set timeout for ir now if that was your only concern.

I had the S2 and it would have notification lights...

Da_G's kernel and DAGr8's ROM supports BLN (back light notification) which uses your capacitive lights as a notification light.
What zer0ninesaid above plus there is NoLED, which I prefer over BLN. It uses icons to idicate what is notifying you so you don't need to invoke a pavlovian response to a blinking button, lol. Plus it has some additional tools like Proximity Sensor so the screen won't turn on when in your pocket.
Somewhat related, I just stumbled onto this notification app, iphone notifications, from the market and it was just the ticket. One of the problems with Google talk, Gmail is that there is no pop-up to notify you which is what this app does. Now my wife, an iphone-convert, can't complain about not getting the text pop-ups she's used to.
BTW, this could be a stretch but I couldn't get BLN to work together with Iphone Notifications.
What if you stay stock? Is there anything out there?

As kimocal said, NoLED is awesome. I have used it for over a year on my Vibrant (same screen technology). It pops a moving icon up on your screen when it is turned off, you hit the power button again to turn it back off completely, otherwise the appropriate (email, gmail, txt, and other) icons move around on the screen. You can set individual app icons and their color. Worth checking out. Used very little juice since black is displayed as off on our screen, only the small portion with the colored icon is actually on.
Just tried the NoLED, but think I'll stick with Missed Message Flasher.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I just can't see how NoLED doesn't decimate battery life. The device is on, running, screen is on (I'm sure OLED doesn't use zero power when on, regardless of pixels shown), etc. I assume it's only on when there's an un-acknowledged notification, but even at that...
Even just running the proximity sensor all the time is a drain. I dunno, I'd assume it wouldn't be popular if it killed your battery, perhaps I should give it another try..
I've never used BLN before but it appears to be functioning erratically for me. I'm running RC6 and the bln free that he included in the ROM. It seems I'll consistently get BLN notifications for a few hours, then not get any for a few. I don't know how else to explain it other than sometimes my keys are glowing and sometimes they aren't. And unless I'm missing something the only options in the app are on/off, and duration of light.
Any ideas?
If you want your soft keys to glow every time you have a text you have to download go sms or hanscent sms the reason is our stock sms app doesent have the notification light option since our phone technically doesent have a notification light but the 3rd party sms apps do have the option for a notification light so thats what makes the soft keys glow when you have a text

I could swear though I've gotten bln before from texts alone... Maybe I just got emails at the same time

When we get proper Bln, it will work with stock SMS. It was done on the gs2.

When I receive a text through Google voice my notification light is a solid purple-ish color. Anyone else text through Google voice and have the same notification? I thought it was just weird that it doesn't flash like all the other notifications. It's stock gs3 btw.

To be honest I don't even look at the notification colors.. they are kinda pretty but I always have my phone with me so I check right when I hear the sound.
It seems that non stock apps are having issues with the notification lights.
my wife and i use GV for text.
ours both have the same Pulple/Hotpink color for the notification light.
wish it was blue....
Thanks for the replies! It's not the color that's bothering me. It's just the fact that it stays solid and doesn't flash!

I thought it was only me. I get the same thing on my s3 as well. It just stay solid purple for my GV notification. Im just worried that it might burn out the led on my phone
Your not the only one. Turns out that most 3rd party apps that use the notification led are messed up on the US versions of the s3. Guess the firmware for the led on the US s3 was a little different then usual. If you are worried about it just turn off the text notification for voice and check your phone more often lol. I'm not too worried about mine but that's because I don't use voice for texting very much and when I do I check it constantly.
My Verizon S4 is set to vibration mode (sound turned down/off)
In the options for gmail, facebook, and hangouts I have notifications turned on, but the vibration is off (unticked), BUT I still get vibrations when an incoming email, message, or notification comes along.
Anyone know how to override this issue? Are there external apps that can fix it? I only want my phone to vibrate when I get phone calls or text messages.
I have searched and found nothing.
Does no one else have this problem? It's driving me nuts!
I have the issue but mine only affects my enhanced Email app running Yahoo. Going to try uninstalling that and just use default email app, see if that helps.
Anybody find a solution to this yet????

I'm thinking that the sound/vibrate settings in Settings may be overriding this, but don't know why?

because you have it in vibration mode. all notifications are vibrate when in vibration mode, even when you have vibration turned off in the apps.

I was thinking that may be what is happening.....
It never used to do this on the Galaxy S4, whoever finds a fix for this I will love forever!
This is not a bug but an annoying change Google made as of Android 4.2. Basically anything with a notification is supposed to vibrate when the phone is in vibrate mode regardless of the app setting although the app needs to support it. There is no fix but CM10.1 has the ability to revert this behavior.

Sorry for digging up this Thread, but this is not acceptable for me.
My S3 is always on Silent/Vibrate - Mode. In this case, Hangouts isn't usable for me. I have to disable all hangouts notificitaions, or my phone would vibrate almost all of the time.
So, is there any workaround available, so far?
I've allready tried to revoke permissions for vibration from hangouts and G+ via "App Settings" (Xposed module), but that didn't work. :/
Any solution would be great. Otherwise I have to go back to 4.1.2.
Best regards,
Marcus

You can try to manually turn off the vibration in the sound settings. settings<my device<sounds<vibration intensity
Change the slider of anyone of them that needs to be changed (from what I can tell you just want the notification vibration to be turned off so slide that one all the way to the left).
Let me know how this go.
Thx for your reply. But this will turn off Vibration for all notifications, won't it? I just want to turn it off for Hangouts because I receive lots of messages there and it's pretty annoying to have a phone on your pocket, that is vibrating all the time. I also have an app, that comes along with the OmegaROM, called "Notifications Mangaer" But changes there doesn't take effect. :/
Best regards,
Marcus

That is the only way I know, other than the notifications manager. I know what you means too, I also hate the annoying vibration all the time and it waste battery life. I got tired of looking for a way around it and just turned off the notification vibration.
Sad to hear... But I won't surrender. This is not acceptable for me. There must be a way to disable vibration on Hangouts even if enabled in system settings. I'll hang on it and let you know as soon as I found a solution . Thx, so far.
Best regards,
Marcus
I have the same problem so I just hav the notifications that I want to vibrate set to vibrate all the time and hangouts not to, then I put my volume at 1.

Thats not bad as an temporarily soliution. It hits me on an idea:
Lets perfection this and create a 1s long, silent track and set it as ringtone. That should work as well.
But even this cant be the final solution. There must be a way to prevent hangouts from vibrating, although global settings force vibration. It worked in the past as well, so why not on above 4.1.2 versions?
Same problem with S5 Mini
I got the same problem on m S5 Mini - it's driving me crazy! Why should I want apps to vibrate in vibration mode, when i don't want the to vibrate in general - when I turn off vibration in the app settings?!
I wake up every night because of notifications from facebook or emails..
I just want whatsapp and phone calls to vibrate!
I came from HTC devices (Desire, Sensation, Sensation XE) and never had this problem before.
It's also annoying that I can't change the notifications volume together with the ringtone volume, but have to seperately adjust the slider
Any solutions without root would be great
