Better WiFi software than what comes stock? - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok I know that may sound strange. I'm running Caulkin+Clems Froyo ROM. I can connect to WEP protected networks without a problem, but my office uses EAP. Damn tablet won't even see the network.
Is there a wifi update floating around somewhere that might fix this? Seems kinda trivial...

dcd 2.3.2/2.3.1 Vzw Wife doesn't look for Router

I've been noticing that when I turn on the Wifi switch on my 6800m the EV icon turns into the wifi search antenna, but the wifi radio (maybe saying this wrong) doesn't try and connect to anything (access points, adhoc) I just sits there.
Used to get the "Radar" sound affect and I would be prompted to enter my WPA key, but now it just doesn't do it.
I tried reading the thread, but its up to 55 pages and i just didn't see anything.
I've tried to install a completely rom, just what was provided, and I still cannot get the wifi radio to search for wireless networks to connect to.
Any ideal?

Try going to the connections settings and choose WiFi.
Make sure the Networks To access tab is set to Only Access Points or All Available.
While on that screen go to Menu and choose the Advanced option.
In this menu check the box that states "Turn On available network notification" and on the scroll menu choose never.
Then on the Network Adapters section make sure that the "My Network Card I connected to " is set to " The Internet " or what ever setting is made on your router.
If that doesn't work try to make sure that your Wireless Router is functioning properly. Like unplugging the power from it for a minute and letting it reset. Or if you have a Linksys router you can search for a Wifi device by pushing the Cisco Systems Button in the from ( If enabled ). This issues a broadcast to all wireless network cards but only the one with the proper key can connect to it.
I noticed that something is a little weird I guess .. besides my reference to Vzw Wife .. typing in the dark is dangerous .. especially with on contact.
Anyway
I don't think my "connections" are correct.
When I go to "Connections" with WIFI off i get
and Look at Network Nanagement I have 3 network options
Verion Wireless, My Work Network, My ISP
I have Verizon Wireless entered for both options.
I do not see "The Internet" or "Work" as options.
When I chose my network adaptor as you stated .. I can see "The Internet" and "Work".
All the other setting were as you said in regards to WIFE andthe network card.
The title of this made me laugh.
I think there is a bigger problem in that when I have the WiFi switch on ... my bluetooth disconnects. I'm going to try one of the older roms and see if it works.
Shouldn't "Internet" and "Work" be visible when I go to Network managment under Connections?
I guess there is something wrong with my phone. I tried NexVision's rom and I could search and connect to my Bluetooth headset with the WIFI switch on, but still cannot search for wifi connections.
show your wife where the router is so she doesnt have to look for it?
(sorry couldnt resist)
could you flash a stock rom and see if wifi works there? its bad news for you but i suspect hardware...
Yep ... I think its hardware also ... and the Wife has no clue what the Router is LOL.
I guess I have a semi Vogue for now.
edit:
I flashed alllll the way back to 2.1.0 and still doesnt work.
I'm downloading the radio for the stock. now and will load the stock verizon rom in a moment. I'll let cha know.
I have alltel and ever since I started using Radio 3.27 my WiFi stopped working (not sure if the radio is the issue). I hear lots of other peoples still work. When I turn the switch to on (with bluetooth off) the circle goes on around the antenna icon and then imediately turns off. I know I have several WiFi routers in the area. The laptop picks them up but the phone does not.
Any vzw users able to use wifi with the new Radio?
Ahh ... Thats interesting.
To be honest ... this is the first time I have attempted to use the wifi since on the new rom. Last nite I was at home and said, I never tested it so I tried and it did not work.
It would make since that the radio could be causing the problem, especially with the radio coming from a beta product if I'm not mistaken. Also that Beta Product being released from another carrier.
Maybe when the Official Verizon Rom is stripped down (or even the pending Sprint Rom Release), us VzW users can use the Wifi, GPS and RevA.
I'm so lazy and just dont wana reloc the bootloader, flash the stock radio, stock rom and be back at such a ... non-robust phone, just for wifi. Right now.
I wonder if any VzW users that are using the new radio and new Radio based roms are able to use wifi?
I have an xv6800 on vzw and everything works perfectly fine, including Wifi, GPS, RevA, MMS etc.
there goes my theory
Yeah that is why I stopped looking for an answer. i hear others peoples work but I have tried all the WM 6.1 roms and none of them work but I put the stock rom in and WiFi works.
Have you tryed changing the power bar for the wifi from best battery to best perforance I used to not beable to pick any thing up untill I did that then once done bam I got all kinds of routers around me. Just a thought

It seems as if you have a hardware issue. I have the XV6800 with a Custom ROM that enables GPS and Rev A. and it works great for me.
Other then telling you to make sure that your WiFi is searching for all access points instead of computers, I wouldnt know what else could be wrong with your phone. Might as well flash everything to stock and report it so you can get a new one, but it is very weird that it didnt work.
Who knows maybe the access point you are trying to access isn't available
I might just try putting the stock radio on and then re-flashing the 3.27 radio. Maybe it did not flash completely or maybe it got corrupted. Who knows.
Hate to say i think everones right about it being hardware problam
I forgot have you done a hard reset this has fixed alot of peoples problams in the past
I think mine is a drivers issue. I installed WiFiFoFum and it started to pick up AP's. It actually connected to my AP. I did a soft reset and it stopped working again. Not sure why it worked for that 2 minutes.
Edited: As of 3-06-08 I have installed Radio 1.40 and DCD 1.7.0 and I still have this issue. The next step is to put the stock rom back in the phone to see if it is a device issue for me.
Edit #2: Ok I put the stock rom back on the phone and my WiFi still does not work. I am figuring it is a hardware issue now. Looks like I am off to the phone store to get my replacement.
same problem, dont think its hardware...right?
my wifi was working fine VZW with dcd 2.2.6, but since the upgrade to 2.3.x ive been having issues with it. it doesnt connect to my network, or search for networks like it should. sometimes it tries to connect and stays with the wifi icon on and arrows continuously going back and forth, but wheb i tap the icon, all it shows is the cellular data connection as active and no no wifi access point. in the wireless LAN settings it lists my networks as unavailable and wheb i click add new it wont search for ones that i know are around, it just asks me to put in the name of a new one. sometimes i dont even get the flashing arrows back and forth, but just get the antenna without a circle around it.
i cant imagine it being a hardware problem that we are both having since the flash to the new rom. my phone is less than a month old and wifi was working flawlessly until i put on 2.2.3 even had remote desktop over my school network working.

[Q] wifi connected but can not connect

Hey I'm new to android, just got a vibrant last week. Decided to unlock it as I travel a lot. The unlock worked, but now I'm having issues with my wifi. I can connect to a wireless network but I cant load pages. The wireless signal is strong and I tried with different routers, but still no luck. Looked through the forum and googled it but couldn't find a solution. If some one could please help with this, it would be much appreciated
try clearing your current wifi settings including remembered connections, passwords, and everything else...then re-scan for networks all over again, that's all I can think of for now
By that you mean just gong into settings->wireless and networks->wifi settings and then just forget the net work, rescan, and rejoin the network? If so, I did that but am still getting the same result. If you can think of anything else or if I didnt do what you suggested correctly please let me know. Thanks

yeah, thats what I meant :/....hmmm...sounds like your connection is working, can you download stuff from the market or is it just the browser? cause I unlocked mine too and wifi works fine
No I cant download anything from the market. I cant do anything that requires an internet connection, but it does show that I am connected to a network.

hmmm...im out of tips then ...perhaps some other members can be of more assistance
I sure hope so, thanks for your help
Have you been able to try another network? My first thought was it was in Ad-Hoc mode but I could be wrong. If nothing else restore to stock firmware and then try a different unlock.
Happened to me too. It would show the wifi icon on the notification bar but wouldn't load pages. I'd go to the settings and it'd say can't turn off wifi or can't turn on wifi. And when it was "on" I'd say connecting to modem then it'd just stop. When I was using the browser on wifi it would load a page even when I had full bars. I had to turn it off then back on to load another page. Is this similar to the problem your having?

I hope this doesn't sound stupid but yesterday I uninstalled Advanced Task Manager and poof my wifi started working again. The phone also seems to suffer from less occasional lag without it installed, but that's another story for another thread. Prior to this I had to manually turn my wifi connection off and on, but even that didn't always work. Since the uninstall I have not my wifi connection once. I am currently using the stock rom, rooted with minor adjustments here and there.
hi guys, i also have this problem.
i will be taking the phone in to the tmobile store on thursday.
it shows that i am connected via wifi; however, anything that requires an internet connection does not load.
very frustrating, since just yesterday i used the samsung kies software to tether a network for my laptop. i was testing the capability of the vibrant to act as a modem, and it worked just fine.
any help would be appreciated!
thank you
Charlie
connected but not connected
I also have this problem.
In my Vibrant shows that i connected, but i can not load pages. Someone
found any solution to this problem?
Hi all,
This is happening to me too. Rebooting seems to get Wifi working correctly again. But the problem comes back eventually.
Maybe a bug in the latest JI6 update?
Wi-fi problem.
Someone found any solution for this problem?
Froyo's update will fix this issue?
Thanks.
i hang on you **** iphone users they just bay for its cool smartphone **** iphone android is the king

[Q] Wi-Fi Dropping #UK

I'm getting often wi-fi drop outs throughout the day and the only way to fix it is by restarting the router?!
Restarting the phone doesn't work
Turning off/on the wi-fi doesn't work
Switching bands doesn't work
yet it still allows connection to BTFON/BT OPENZONE? But won't connect to my broadband.
It's kind of annoying, because on the status bar it shows that it's still on wifi but going into settings and turning it off/on then shows it's not working. As it won't connect to the internet obviously.
Anybody else getting this? Any fixes?!
Thanks.
I have an issue where it just briefly drops the connection and reconneca, sometimes it is connected but can't access internet unless I cycle wifi.
I am on the Optus, Australia S3.
I have tried it on both my access points, it can't sustain a Skype call-keeps choking up-I am hoping a new kernel or custom ROM may help-tried Omega, but had barely any phone signal.
I have sleep set to never, have tried 2.4GHz only....a bit annoying, but Ireckon it should be sorted soon. It is the only issue I have.

Try changing the security type of your router. It's often better to pub less encrypted seucurity. For instance try removing security completely for a few min and see if the problem carrys one. Then it means the problem is from the security of your router and then change the type of security to something different than it was before and should fix it. good luck

Hmmm i just changed it from WPA2 only too WPA & WPA2.. seems to be working at the moment.
I'll report back later.
Is it a bug that it doesn't support WPA2 or something?

My S3 has no problems with my O2 wireless access point (provided by BeThere), but I'm using WPA/WPA2 rather than WPA2
You are in UK as well, are you on Orange and using the "Your Wifi" app to manage the access to free BT hotspots?
No wifi issue get it exchanged.

Oh No it's not a bug! Some times different routers are not well at making a steady connections with certain devices through high encryptions. As you remarked the problem is not an issue incase of connecting to BTOpenzone and yes pretty much. This problem can often be solved without the need of even purchasing a new router. Simply head over to your router's setting page (should be something like 192.168.xxxxxx) then see if it's possible to upgrade your router's firmware.
See this link, maybe it will give you an idea of what I'm taking about

I'm assuming you're using a bt homehub of some sort?
I'm using a bt homehub 3 and I've been getting constant drop outs when downloading files over wifi.
I tried a lot of different fixes and was clsoe to throwing the phone out of the window lol
What seems to have solved the drop outs for me is using wpa instead of wpa2.
Try a factory reset?
I'm also on a BT Homehub and i haven't had a single problem, i did a factory reset as soon as i got the phone to prevent any issues.

[Q] Desperate for programmer help. Wifi tether not allowing login to PSN on...

Ok somewhat an obscure issue, and the fix that lets a VPN work over tether does not seem to fix it.
I first encountered this on I think 4.3 or 4.2 with my Galaxy Nexus prime. I would use a wifi hotspot, and all connections work fine except for when connecting my playstation Vita. It would say it could not login. So I do a connection test and everything is okay except the attempt to sign into playstation network.
I found maybe 2 other people with the same problem on different devices. I now own a rooted fire phone on 4.6.1. It too has this same problem. And it's believed by some that after 2.1 or 2.2 all native versions of wifi hotspot have this issue. I've tried treve mod, the vpn fix, and a handful of wifi hotspot apps with no luck. I don't know if these apps work as I could not establish even a normal connection through them.
I believe what I need is a kitkat compatible wifi app that doesn't rely on the native hotspot, or some way to modify it if anyone knows what's causing the blockage.
edit: To solve it on my old phone, I actually had to downgrade android to jellybean. I can't do that with this phone though.
Thanks for any help with this.

Slow wifi, did anyone solve it?

So I've seen a few posts about slow wifi on the G5 here on XDA but can't remember there was any solutions really.
Has there been any progress regarding to this?
Seems like my wifi suddenly drops from time to time (like every 2-3min or something), the "wifi bar" doesn't drop for even a second though so I guess it stays connected but isn't able to pull/send requests.
Getting quite annoyed with this since it's faster with my 4G network on than 100mbit wifi.
Also, might be a coincidence but overall I feel like my wifi got slower when I got the G5, on my Macbooks etc that is. Could of course be some router issues but not likely.
Any ideas? Kinda bummed out since I love the phone.
Might be a ip6 issue it is on my g4 use an app called disable ipv6 and it helps. Dont know if g5 suffers from the incompatability either
I would replace the phone. I get no wifi drop out and wifi is blazing fast when my internet connection at work and home isn't playing up.
If you can, disable IPv6 on your router, or if you have the European Varient and have root, there is a script to disable it on your device. I had the same issue and that was the trick. Get an app to test for an ipv6 leak before-hand, just to be sure.

ALSO, If you head into your developer settings, you can enable "Legacy DCHP" I have found this useful on a number of devices that were having issues with WiFi.
