[Q] Recover Blur Contacts? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Up till now I have been using the stock rom just rooted and I just installed the neutrino rom (doesn't have moto blur) and I just wanted to ask if there is anyway to get my contacts I had linked to my blur account.
I went to the moto site but couldn't understand it.
https://portal-moto.svcmot.com/moto-web-portal/profile

If you did not export your contacts before to a CSV file or vcard, then no, there is no way to get them. The instructions are quite straight forward:
"Transferring contacts to a MOTOBLURâ„¢ phone requires the creation of a CSV or vCard file by exporting contacts from an existing phone or email application."
Google is much better for contacts, and you won't lose them!
Did you happen to ever create a backup with Motorola Phone Portal on your computer?

That sucks, you'd think you should be able to see your contacts on the site like you can on your phone.
Thanks.

Trying to get contacts off the phone onto my gmail account

So I need to format the phone so I can apply the update. My contacts on my phone aren't online in my gmail. I need to save them there so I can then sync them back after I reformat the phone.
I have tried getting this to work on the phone and it is a no go. I can't get it to sync online and save the contacts. Anyone know how to get this to work?
there are several ways of doing this.
* use contact2sim pro and copy phone contacts to sim. then format phone and import contacts from sim to phone.
* convert all ur phone contacts to google contacts in phone and sync with gmail.
* mybackup pro does sumthing similar. though i dint try this. u can give it a shot. cheers
contact2sim work the same as the pro version. I just want to back the contacts up and then back onto the phone after I format.
How would I go about converting my contacts on my phone to google contacts?
Thanks in advance.

Anybody help with that?
Yep, I second that question. In fact, instead of having 1 set of contacts for Google, and one set for my Outlook contacts I would like them to be merged.
The same with the calendars. Everything I change in Outlook I would like to have reflected on my gmail account, without the need of a 3rd part application on the PC.

[Q] Backing up My Contact Question

Hi GUYS!
I just bought the Thunderbolt, My very first Droid very very happy!
My question is how do i back up my contacts..
I rooted my phone last week, and have installed perfect storm ROM. and backed everything up with Titanium Back up.
However, I realize that every time a new ROM or updated version comes out, I would have to wipe all my data. I only restore User Apps and no the System Data, becomes this is a new rom. Or should i restore all??
So my question is what files do i need to restore from Titanium backup to restore my contacts. because it gets very annoying having to link my contacts between Google email account, and Exchange each time.
**is there a way I can save all the phone contacts i have from exchange, and link that to Google permanently?
So when i updated my Google account, all my number would come out..
or is there a file i can restore through my Ti Backup to save all that hassle, Everytime I wipe.
Thanks Guys!
Your contacts should have sync'd to your online Google account.
That's the beauty of Android. Once everything is sync'd up. You can change phones, log into your google account and just resync all your info immediately.
hey buddy,
how do i sync all my contact to my google account now?

yea importing contacts can be bad if you have google sync on, it will create duplicate contacts if you restore contacts and alot of hassle removing the dupes
If you add your contacts as Google contacts you can edit them/view them online at http://www.google.com/contacts . They will automatically sync up then. Also, there are programs on Market you can get to save the contacts as well. Lastly, with most roms, once you get going with it, you don't *always* have to wipe; oftentimes you can just do it as an upgrade. At least that's what I can tell.

check under accounts and sync and make sure your google sync is on, contacts calendar and mail. when you save contacts on your phone you are given 2 options, phone contact or google contact. always choose google contact if you want them auto synced. Phone contacts wont get backup unless you use Verizon's Backup Assistant or use a 3rd party program like Ti Backup Pro or some other software to do it. Easier to use google contact and forget about it.
I came from a blackberry with Exchange mail.. So all my contacts are actually stored in my exchange mail. So is there a way where I can just sync all my contact information from Exchange mail to Google account.
I hate having to link both google info with my exchange mail info.. A couple of times i don't mind, but if i want to play around and update roms frequently i rather not deal with this type of problem if its avoidable.
Once you are all updated on your Google account, anytime you change roms and you get the "Welcome to Android" startup screen (If you wipe your phone prior to changing roms), once you put in your google ID and password, your phone will "pull" the contact information to your phone from your google account, so you won't need to re-input anything.
Only time you may have an issue is if you had a contact on your phone and for whatever reason you did not sync before wiping, you may lose any added contacts that didn't get sync'd up.
The easiest way I backed up my contacts was just make a vcard back up from the menu in messaging app to your SD card and then restoring it from your SD card when your done flashing. It was very fast and easy for me.

Quick question. When i export my contacts out of my phone book, to my sd card. when i do a wipe. does the wipe, wipe everything on the sd card as well.
sorry i'm very new.. been using a blackberry for the last 4 years.. and this has been an amazing moment in my life.. the only thing i miss is the keypad on my bold.. but the gingerbread keypad is making my transition a silky smooth one.
*i just imported my contact info from my exchange to Google.. Now my google is up to date.. i think i'm ready to play.

wipe wont wipe your sdcard, unless you physically do so in clockwork recovery.
Sounds like you got everything set up. Congrats on your new phone!
On a side-note. You have an Android, not a Droid. The Droids are a specific set of Verizon Android devices.

shouldnt gmail restore contacts or am i imagining that?

Without backup assistant from Verizon, why can I not restore my contacts? It's making switching roms really a hassle.
Are you positive that your contacts are in gmail? Do they show up when you go to gmail from a computer? They may be saved on the phone directly and wiping the phone wipes them too. But you are right. Assuming that your contacts are in gmail, they should auto-backup and restore. Just make sure you are signed into your gmail account and sync is set-up.
Yeah, sync is on. This is really my issue I run into anymore.I've even tried to find an app just to make contact backups. Ugh...
When you make your contacts you have to select them as Google contacts, otherwise they're just stored locally on the phone. Go to gmail on your computer and look at your contacts. If they're there, they should be on your phone. If not, you may have lost them.
I saw a post earlier that described the best way to get this to work. Basically the phone saves the numbers locally by default, and does not back them up to google (which is stupid). The way I read to fix it is as follows:
1. Backup all you contacts to your sd card.
2. Delete all your contacts.
3. Restore all backups from sd card and set them as google contacts.
4. In the future always check that you are saving them as google contacts instead of phone only.
This wasn't my idea, but it worked for me.
You can always back up your phone contacts and then email the file to yourself. Then, on a desktop computer, go to gmail.com and under contacts you can import your contacts file. Then the next time your phone syncs with google they will show up.

[Q] All my contacts are *gone* - Google doesn't Sync them?

I just finished installing a new, custom, ROM (Cognition X2 Beta 4). Everything is running well and there is no lag I know of.
Only one problem: All my contacts are gone.
I thought Google backed them up (with Google Sync). Apparently not! Even though my picture albums, gmail, and calendar; my contacts are still the same default AT&T contacts!
Does anybody know I can PLEASE get my old contacts back? I MUST have them (I JUST got everyone manually saved on my new phone from my old iPhone 4 - and restored the iPhone. F U 0 K!)
Yes, I did backup the "stock" rooted ROM. Is it possible to extract the contacts from it - without restoring back to it?
I'm desperate.

Go into your gmail on pc Web Browser and look on left side you will see contacts look to see if your phone contacts are there. If not then back up your current system in cwm then restore the stock one. Sync contacts with google let it finish then restore cognition backup in cwm. Sucks but easiest way to get them back.
Google only syncs the contacts that is in GMail contacts. Your phone supports many different contact providers. You can have Gmail contacts, exchange server contacts, facebook contacts and Phone contacts. The default is phone contact which syncs with no one. If you only save your contacts in Phone contact, you will never get that synced to the cloud. So, next time when when you create a new contact, pay attention to the where the contact is going and make sure it is Gmail contacts.
How did you back up your stock ROM? With titanium backup? If so restore your contacts with it. When you make a gmail account, make sure you go in your contacts app press menu/more/settings/save new contacts to/your google account or always ask and not to your phone so it can auto sync.
If you ever came from an iPhone or any other phone and transferred your contacts to Android. Go in your contacts app cause it's usually not stored in the google account to sync but rather the phone. Press menu/import & export/export to sd card....you will have a vcf file on your storage card. Go on gmail thru the computer. On your left pan you should see contacts. With your phone plugged into your computer, pull the vcf file or just upload it directly from your phone to your gmail using a file explorer on your phone like Astro. Back to your gmail on the computer...press contacts and find the button more in the center. Press import from there and merge and find duplicates if you need to.

Changing Original GMAIL Setting

When I bought my HTC Thunderbolt I logged into an existing gmail account that I thought I could change down the line. So, I have found that changing my original gmail account is not as easy as I thought. The problem is that when I go to put in a new event into my calender it does not sync correctly because it is syncing with the first gmail account I put on the phone.
So, before I go erasing this or that file, I want to check with some people who have good wisdom. My phone is rooted, I am on a different ROM and Radio, but everything I read says that you need to do a factory reset. So, here are a few questions I have...
Will a factory reset effect the rooting of my phone?
If it does not, should I just back on my apps up and do a factory reset?
Is there anything else I should know before I attempt a factory reset?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

gmail is directly linked to the primary account on your phone. the one you went through the initial setup with(setup market with). and unfortunately you cannot remove that email from gmail.
you can ofcourse add accounts via "accounts & sync", but that's a different story.
christ eh?... tell him/her I said salam.
I don't have any issues with erasing or not erasing the email. In fact, I don't really care if it stays on there or not. When I put a new event into my calendar it is using the email I signed up with. So yes, I could sync multiple accounts, but my laptop, tablet, home computure, work computer are all on one account. I like it this way.
When I look in my "accounts and sync" it says that it is using the proper account, but when I select a event in the calendar it wants to sync with google email I sign up with on my phone. I don't want it to use this account. I want to use the same one my google mail.
I am thinking that if I back up all my apps and data using Titanium Backup, do a factory reset, then add my google email so that my calendar syncs with the proper email I should be set. I can always bring my apps back using Titanium Backup and if all fails the worst that could happen is that I go back to my original setting using Titanium Backup.
Am I wrong in thinking this way?
Ryon
So, the gmail account you started your phone with... 1. Did you purchase apps on the market with it? And 2. Do you still want to use it at all on your phone? If you answered "no" to both these questions, do this:
On your computer, log in to the gmail acct you don't want. Export a back up of all your contacts. Now, log out and log into the gmail acct you 'do' want and import your contacts into it. It will not wipe any existing contacts.
Now. On your phone, delete the Google acct you don't want. Sync the one you do want (calendar, contacts, etc). You will have sync'ed all your contacts, email, and calendar. Make sure its all there.
If you answered "yes" to either question above, also do this... Once you're sure your phone has integrated your new main acct, add the old one back. Uncheck the boxes for synching contacts and calendar plus anything else you don't want to sync.

Oops... It is important to know, 4g phones are not linked to your Verizon service the same way 3g/non-sim card phones are. In fact, if you were to reset your phone and not sign into a Google acct at all, you would still have service after set up is complete. This is because your service is now linked to the sim card on your phone. Granted, you won't have contacts, but you could make a call or browse the internet...
