Unable to install custom recovery! $20 to whoever can help! - HTC Amaze 4G

I've been working on this for 2 days now and I can't seem to find an answer. I'll pay $20 to the dude who finds the resolution.
So, I just got a new Amaze, fresh out of the package. I was able to unlock the bootloader with no problems. However, when I run the flash.bat file the phone reboots into the boot loader, but nothing happens, the MS DOS prompt simply says "sending 'recovery' <4634 KB>". I've tried to use Hasoon's all-in-one-kit, but it is not able to install any recovery either. I'm not a noob, so don't insult my intelligence with stuff like "were you in USB debugging mode"? YES, I've read all the directions, and searched all over.
Things I've tried:
2 diff computers
2 diff USB cables
reinstalled HTC drivers
relocked the and unlocked the bootloader
Tried diff recoveries - CWM 5.0.02.5 and TWRP 2.0.0
Running HTC Amaze
Anyone?

Try this...
Put the recovery.img in your android/tools folder (be sure there are no other recovery.imgs in there)
Run cmd
Type the following...
"fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" be sure that the name of the .img matches the command where it reads recovery.img.

Do it the easy way
ClockworkMOD 5.5.0.4 Amaze 4g/Ruby: http://www.android-dev.us/showthread...4-Off-charging
---------------------
1. Download file to your computer
2. make sure its named PH85IMG.zip
3. Copy to sdcard (externel one)
4. Pull battery and replace
5. Hold volume down and then hit power
6. Wait for it to say do you want toupdate (press volume up)
7. Press power button to reboot
8. Reboot Phone into recovery as normal and enjoy clockworkmod recovery with fixed charging and sdcard

Command worked, however hangs at "sending 'recovery' <5066 KB>..."
On the screen of the Amaze there is a green vertical progress bar that is about 1/4 filled, but never moves beyond that.

Do you have root access? If so try downloading Rom Manager from the Market and flashing it with that.
Edit: N/m I went and re-read the instructions again and see you need recovery first.

you need root for that method to work, and even then it has a really old version of cwm that does not have internal sdcard support...

I went through the steps and now phone is off and wont turn on. When connected QHSUSB_DLOAD in device manager.
Do we need to have the QHSUSB_DLOAD drivers for this exploit to work?
Thanks ahead of time.
EDIT: Did a battery pull and started over from begining. We now have S-Off!!!!! Failed to install CWM but I will install TWRP
Does Amon Recovery work? If so, can we get instructions for that? If not, instructions for CWM.
Thanks,
Mike
Oh okay, I failed.
When I did that it just came up with a list of commands
If your phone wont turn on you probably dont have your fastboot drivers installed. Do that first
AS for amon RA recovery that hasent been built for the shooter yet. If you want cmw just keep running the revolutionary application and it will ask if you want it to flash CMW

So that means that you should opt out of the CWM install and install TWRP after doing s-off? Would be nice if we had full instructions: including what to select/install during the revolutionary exe.

Exact same situation here.
Edit: Just saw the post above that CWM isn't working yet.
I flashed this through fastboot and it appeared to work. It won't boot into the recovery though. Are there some steps I'm missing?
beta key
I have tried to enter in the beta key oh about 20 time but it keeps saying invalid press almost and key to abort anyone else having this problem ?

[Q] lost my recovery cant enter

I used revalutionary to root and it worked great but I tried to use Rom Manager to load a rom and since it made me install CWM Recovery. I now do not have a recovery. when in bootloader it will scan for PG86IMG.zip but it is scanning for PC86IAG.zip. Can some help me fix this.

Screw CWM and ROM manager...take the extra 20 seconds it takes and just boot to recovery by hand. flash TWRP and be done with it.
EDIT: Sorry, here, http://www.techerrata.com/dl.php?path=27&file=PG86IMG-twrp-shooter-1.0.1.zip download that, unzip it and then download fastboot from here: http://developer.htc.com/adp.html#s2 then type "fastboot flash recovery path/to/recovery-twrp-shooter-1.0.0.img" , make sure all of these files are in the same directory....oh yeah, with no quotes.
I must be stupid
I cant get fastboot to work. Does it work on win7 64bit comp? I put the phone in fastboot usb mode and go to the comp and try to run fastboot but all it does is flashes for like a mil sec and does nothing.

You've gotta go to the command prompt....
So, first download and unzip all of the files into a folder called "recovery" (no quotes)....
or click start, click run, type "cmd" then hit enter. then type "cd Desktop/recovery" (no quotes).... then type in the fastboot command I gave you above.
ok, well thank you soooo much for your help, but I still cant get tis to work.
1 How do I get my comp to now to flash the comand to my phone, do i have the phone in charge, disc drive or go into fastboot?
2. the comand you told me to type into the cmd was 1.0.0.IMG BUT the file is 1.1.0.zip
I had a friend that is very smart with cmd promp and he was confused with how running this on the computer -- to get it to the phone.
all we got was an error that it could not find the path
Just follow the guide here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192643
Basically download a recovery rename it to PC86IAG.zip power on using vol down and power the recovery will flash and then reboot and delete PC86IAG.zip.
Or turn off quickboot settings/power uncheck quickboot and then reboot your phone and I bet you will have your CWM recovery, but you need to do the above or a battery pull to do a real restart.

Dont bother with all that cmd prompt crap you dont need to follow what I said. Easiest way is the battery pull then reboot to recovery.

Download that file. (it's TWRP recovery). Rename it to PG86IMG.zip. (if you're on windows, remember that the '.zip' extension won't show, and is already there. So just rename it PG86IMG). Then place the file on the main directory of your sd card. Shut your phone off, and boot into the bootloader. It will scan and find the PG86IMG.zip, then ask you to update. Press volume up to say yes. It will finish. Then reboot. Then shut phone off and boot back to bootloader. Select the 'recovery' option from the bootloader menu. You should then successfully boot into recovery. That's all you should need to do. And as daneurysm said, forget about Rom manager, and do your wiping and flashing manually, from the recovery menu. You'll have less troubles that way.
EDIT: After you get recovery working, flash this http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...echerrata.com/toastcfh/Shoot...d-unsigned.zip, and then you'll be fully rooted. At that point, I suggest downloading "quickboot" app, and you can use that to boot to recovery or bootloader much quicker and easier. Have fun.

Yea, your response wasnt there when I started typing mine. I started typing it, then had to get some pizza out of the oven and cut it up. Then got back to my response. Wasn't trying to steal your thunder or anything. Also, you said to rename it to PC86IAG.zip or something....does that work? I've only used PG86IMG.zip. Just curious if you made a typo, or if you can use either one.

Hey, If you are S-ON you have to do one step more. Go as to my sequence.
I assume you have already downloaded fastboot, drivers and android in your pc. And your phone is bootloader unlocked via HTC dev method and rooted, CWM installed. So ..
You need these : SuperWipe (To wipe data) , A Custom ROM ( I suggest Mwakious Demcritous 3D v7.0) / Put these to your sdcard root and Get a copy of these on your PC hard drive too.
1. First go to your recovery menu ( Here its CWM) and select Install from zip file.
2. Select the SuperWipe.zip and click OK, this wipes all your data.
3. Now again select install update from Zip file on recovery . Select the Custom ROM zip file from the sdcard and click install.
4. Then youll see its getting installed. Once its done select turn off your Phone from recovery menu.
5. BOOT IN TO BOOTLOADER Menu now. (Holding vol down + power) , DO NOT TURN ON YOUR PHONE OR YOU'LL get STUCKED in BOOT LOOP
6. Connect the phone to the PC, then bootloader menu will say --> Connected via USB
8. Now unzip the same ROM file youve got in your Hard Drive. Once done find a file called "boot.img" inside that unzipped folder.
9. Now open up a cmd, go to you android tools location (eg: C:/>Program Files/Android)
10. Type > fastboot devices ( If this shows some result which makes any sense proceed to step 11)
11. Now type the below command on the CMD.
"fastboot flash boot C:\<Location you've extracted the zip>\Mwakious3DRom.v.7.0\boot.img"
12.If the result says DONE, you are good to go.
13. Turn off the phone and On it now
14. You should be logged in without a problem, guaranteed !!! Otherwise let me know
Thanks

Thank You Very Much And Where Can I Find This ROM?

[Tutorial] Root, Unlock, Recovery and flashing a Custom ROM

This is long, but it's nice for noobs because it's detailed. It's honestly kind of fun, I promise. I'm assuming you have WINDOWS. This is based off of the guide by torxx!. It's modified because some of the info is outdated (you don't have to flash the boot.mg separately, for example). If you are NOT a noob you can just look at the "overview" for each step.
UNLOCKING YOUR DEVICE WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE. THIS IS A SECURITY FEATURE. BACKUP FIRST.
Part 1- gaining unlock token
Overview: go to htcdev.com and unlock bootloader
Be sure you've turned off fast boot option in power menu; usb debugging should be on (settings -> developer options).
Go to http://www.htc.com/www/software/htc-sync-manager/[1] and install HTC SYNC. Alternatively, if you know what you're doing, you can install these drivers:
x86 http://www.mediafire.com/?qabo1tue2v1ky75 x64 http://www.mediafire.com/?8dl8s3l9mr6ggr9
Go on http://www.htcdev.com[4] and create yourself an account on HTCDEV.
Download these adb/fastboot files: http://d-h.st/RvD
Make a new folder anywhere. We'll use C:/fastboot as an example.
Extract the zip downloaded to the new folder
Go Here http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/[6] and select "All Other Supported Models" and "then begin unlock bootloader" (check the boxes, click proceed, all that good stuff). YOU CAN IGNORE THE DIRECTIONS THAT THEY TELL YOU (and follow this guide instead).
Power off your phone. Power your phone on by holding power and volume down.
Highlight 'Fastboot' the volume buttons then press power to "select".
Plug your phone into your PC and open a Command Prompt. (windows XP - Click Start > Run > type CMD in box then press OK; Windows 7 - Click Start > type CMD in search box then press Enter) Change directory to your folder where we put fastboot files by typing cd c:\fastboot for example.*
*Alternatively, you can just hold down shift and right click in the folder and select "open command window here". Neat huh?
Type this into your command prompt window: fastboot oem get_identifier_token
Select & copy the text as per step 9 on the HTCDev website
Paste your identifier token into the box at the bottom and submit
You Will Very Shortly Receive an email from HTCDev with a link to the second part of the instructions and your "Unlock_code.bin" attached
Download the "Unlock_code.bin" from the email and save it to the same folder that we extracted fastboot files
Type this into your command prompt window: fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
The Display Will change on your phone, press Vol+ to accept and power to confirm.
Part 2
Overview: flash your recovery. Boot into recovery. Turn phone off if it boots into OS. Boot into back into recovery. You're done!
Download a recovery:
TWRP (the one I use): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173870
CWM 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2172979
CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173863
Place the Recovery file to the folder where the fastboot.exe is.
Same thing as above- boot (volume down + power) into the bootloader and highlight 'Fastboot' the volume buttons then press power to "select".
Do the same thing as with the command prompt above. This time, however, you'll be typing:
fastboot flash recovery "name_of_the_recovery.img"
For example:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-m7.img
then type:
fastboot erase cache
From the menu, boot into recovery (use volume to move up and down, power to select). The phone might boot to the OS instead of recovery, don't worry!
Turn off phone then turn on (while holding volume down) to boot back into the bootloader.
TAMPERED shows up, boot into recovery and now your recovery should be working!
Part 3- obtaining root
Overview: flash a super tool
Download a super user tool for root:
SuperSU (I use this one): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
SuperUser: http://download.clockworkmod.com/superuser/superuser.zip
Alternatively, download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252959. This is a stock rooted rom for ATT. If you download and flash this instead of the super user tool, you're done. (This rom includes super user) Or you can download a custom rom such as this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023
Turn on your phone again (and disable usb debugging) and connect to computer, copy the .zip super user tool to a location you remember ON the phone.
Flash it with the Recovery: Power off your device and then hold the VOL DOWN + Power to boot into the Bootloader Navigate with VOL and Power to Recovery Now flash the .zip:
- install zip from sdcard
- choose zip from sdcard
- select the downloaded SuperSU/SuperUser zip file and flash it
- Reboot now
You're not out of the woods yet! The stock kernel is system write protected, so you still can't modify it (changes won't "stick"). You'll have to flash a custom rom or a kernel if you want stock instead.
I recommend these kernels: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2255900 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233665&highlight=menu
Download it.
Installing custom rom/kernel ("flashing a rom")
Overview: Download Rom, boot into recovery and wipe and then flash.
According to Shenye, even though your device is s-on, you can still flash boot now. So just do this:
Turn on your phone again (and disable usb debugging) and connect to computer, copy the .zip kernel/cutom rom to a location you remember ON the phone.
Flash it with the Recovery: Power off your device and then hold the VOL DOWN + Power to boot into the Bootloader Navigate with VOL and Power to Recovery Now flash the .zip:
- install zip from sdcard
- choose zip from sdcard
- select the downloaded SuperSU/SuperUser zip file and flash it
- Reboot now
I feel like this title should be changed to clarify that it's unlocking the bootloader, not the SIM lock.
Just wanted to say this tutorial was 100% dead on and what I used to unlock bootloader and root/rom my One.
Oddity - Did everything, I've got root but I -AM- out of the woods. Was installing bulletproof mod through recovery but it kept failing due to missing a MD5 file or something -- Trying to work that out through that thread atm but anyway, rebooted the phone a couple of times now and I still have root, Tit back up works OR are we talking about things like CPU clocking won't work since it can't rewrite?
Sticking this.
Excellent tutorial. One thing to add:
If you flash the TWRP recovery you link to, after TWRP boots for the first time, if you reboot into System, TWRP will offer to install SuperSU for you; no need to find another to flash. Once the system reboots, you can launch the GUI installer to finish the SU install (it will boot into TWRP and back one more time to do the actual flash).
Does anyone know if this will work on the Rogers HTC One?
Thank you. Followed this last night. Worked flawlessly. The only thing that threw me was rebooting into recovery. It took maybe 3 or 4 reboots for it to say "TAMPERED" at the top. When it didn't say tampered, it would not boot to recovery.
TELUS?

Yes it does. I have a Rogers phone, and it worked perfectly.

No, I have a Rogers device. But the procedure should not be any different.
followed step by step and got an error that says submitted token wrong length
I'm on ubuntu 13.04 and I get stuck at getting the token. I type in fastboot oem get unlock_identifier_token and it says waiting for device. Tried it with sudo and it says error and sudo ./fastboot and it says no such command.

Having a really odd problem. I flash the twrp recovery per instructions. I try to reboot to recovery and it seems to try and then, blam, the att boot.
I have tried this from the bootloader, selecting Recovery, as well as from a booted stated using "adb reboot recovery".
Any hints for me? I originally had a silver One and today got my Black One replacement,. Had no issues on the original one. Hmm. Guess I will try CWM.
FYI: Yes I unlocked the bootloader and it says Unlocked in there
-I also notice that I seem to go right into fastboot, when I boot the bootloader. Now, I believe that is normal if you have the usb cable attached, but this happens regardless.
-flashed stock recovery back and can get into it. trying twrp again, renaming the file to "recovery.img" just because...and it worked on that stock recovery file
-Also, very hard to get into bootloader from powered off state. I may flash RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_Cingular and see if it helps me.
OK, maybe it is the phone or ATT has done something screwy on the latest. I can not even get the RUU install to pass inspection. Wants me to check the connection. I know all my stuff is in order, as I did this all on the previous one. grrr
-Just noticed mine does say Unlocked but it does not say Tampered.
-Crazy. I decided to get a new Unlock token and redo the unlock with it. Now, the bootloader finally says Tampered and I got into TWRP. I have no idea why, since I would think that if the original Unlock token was incorrect, it would not have unlocked the phone.
So, rather than providing worthwhile information for anyone else having problems, I think this post is probably deletable and that is fine by me should the powers so decide.
How would one go back to locking the device for a return?!?

fastboot oem lock
but, it will say relocked. nobody cares or seems to check. also, it will say tampered until you restore a stock ruu to flash. I used RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_Cingular.exe for mine when switching from silver to black. it is the right one for att. sorry, don't have the link to the download anymore.
great writeup! quick comment though, just helped my brother unlock his phone. i had a similar issue to @Barsky above so I decided to try to reflash the recovery. The first time I used the line fastboot erase cache after flashing the recovery and I think that's what caused it to not boot into recovery. The second time I flashed TWRP, I didn't enter that line and voila it worked on the first try!
can anyone post a mirror of the dev host files? devhost seems to be down.

I think the last bit was your problem. You can't factory reset from bootloader. Try to push twrp again in fastboot then load/flash clean romantic, then boot up. It already has root so you don't need to push su.

[Q] HTC Rezound stuck on white screen....

My HTC Rezound is stuck on the HTC white screen. The bootloader is unlocked, but i wasn't able to finish the rooting process before I got this white screen. Can someone walk me through what I need to do? I can get to the HBOOT menu, but not sure what I need to do from here. Other threads said I need to re-lock the bootloader if I'm still in S-ON...but not entirely sure. Thanks.
How did you try to root?
You probably dont have a boot.img anymore... I would flash a ROM and its boot.img

I used a walk through on the unlockr website to root the rezound. I got to the part where you unlock the bootloader but then I gave up for the night and decided to do the rest the next day....but never got a chance...
Would you be able to explain how to flash a ROM and its boot.img? I'm sort of an amateur here..haha...I can get the phone into HBOOT and then get it into recovery mode...but not sure what to do from here....Thanks for trying to help, much appreciated!
Ok, i will backup... Download recovery and flash first, then use its file browser to see if you still have a ROM. Most likely you will have to flash a ROM, and when S-ON requires you to extract the boot.img and flash it manually.

CWM or TWRP are custom recovery applications that allow you to flash ROM image zip files. You will need to select a ROM to flash as well. Place a copy of the recoveryXXX.img file in your fastboot directory. The next step will depend on the answer to my next question...
Did you have a certain custom ROM in mind or do you just want to be stock & rooted?

stock and rooted would be fine to me unless you have a better suggestion.... I'm very new at this...the only reason i undertook this endeavor is because my soft keys stopped working and most of those "home key" apps only work when you're rooted.
I'm sorry I'm so dumb at this...but do I install CWM to my phone or to my computer?

You can flash it to your phone, but it isn't necessary... if all you want is stock and rooted, know that I am back in front of a computer and not on limited to Tapatalk on my phone, I will walk you through it. I recommend TWRP though, I am familiar enough with CWM mod to do it on my own, but not to instruct someone (Do not type the quotation marks themselves unless I say otherwise)
1) Download the latest TWRP from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1902381
2) Unzip the file and copy the recovery.img file from the ZIP to the same directory as fastboot/adb
3) Download the ROM image from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260154
4) Open the ZIP with 7Zip (or your favorite ZIP tool) and extract the file called boot.img and place it in the fastboot/adb directory as well (we may or may not need it, depends how this goes for you)
5) Place a copy of the ROM zip file on the root of your microSD card
6) Power up into Hboot (the bootloader) by pressing POWER+VOL DN until the screen comes up
7) Select and start FASTBOOT and connect the USB cable, there should now be a red bar over FASTBOOT USB
8) Open a command window in your fastboot directory
9) Type "fastboot devices" (without quotes) and press enter, the system should respond with your devices serial number, if it doesn't... STOP and report back here
10) Type "fastboot boot recovery.img" and wait for TWRP to start on the phone
11) Go to Wipes -> Advanced and select everything except the external SD and execute it
12) Go back to the top menu
13) Select Install and select the ROM image and flash, wait for it to let you know it's complete
14) Reboot and be patient... first boot on a new ROM can take a significant amount of time, give it a good 15 minutes.
Remember you do not have to flash ANY recovery image to your phone, this is only needed once S-OFF and returning to locked, you can always boot a recovery image via fastboot.
Enjoy

The easiest way would be to remove the microSD card and place it an external reader in the PC and then just copy and paste... the other way is to skip #5 , then after #10 (and before #11) use TWRP to mount the SD card by clicking MOUNT and then make sure Storage is set to "Micro SDcard" and click Mount USB Storage... the external SD card should show up on your PC as a regular removable USB drive, just copy it over that way and after it is complete press Home in the lower left corner and continue.

Update -
I skipped five because I don't have a miniSD external reader.
after I typed "fastboot devices" I think it showed the serial number (which is good i think)...it showed a series of letters and numbers and then fastboot. When i typed fastboot boot recovery recovery.img, i received cannot load recovery... any ideas?
