After rooting some apps fail to install. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings XDA members,
I have a issue, I'm running ICS 4.0.3 on my Galaxy S2 (leaked) from Sammobile and it is working smooth. I overlayed it with Nova launcher and so far everything is working great.
Unfortunately after I rooted my phone, some apps including the XDA app were unavailable for use. My phone told me they don't excist on the SD card. This was after the root before the root I didn't have this particular issue.
I have un-rooted my phone and I can now install every app I wish to desire but... It's not cool to deal with a killer good phone without the root, this limits my possibilities and I hope you members have a solution for me.
Kind regards.

Wait for genuine release of ICS is one solution .
jje

Perhaps...

Yeah, same exact issue. Running leaked 4.0.3 LPH and used CF foot 5.2. Rooting process removed some of my apps. Dead space for instance. When I go to re-install I get an error message, "unable to install on USB or SD card".

Just Unmount your sd card, Install the apps, and then mount again. Worked for me.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA

Had exact same issue while running Omega 3.2 black-blue themed ROM (ICS 4.0.3)
Unmounting the SD Card works fine and makes installing failed apps possible again
thx for solution

Hmm...did you try to remount you're /sdcard before installing something?
Try to root it once again und then open a Terminal Emulator and remount you're sdcard.

Yes! But it still failed to install the selected applications.
Later this week I will try your theory.

[Q] Screenshots issue...

I just tried taking multiple screenshots and on every attempt I get a message in my notifications that reads "Screenshot failed: libpng error: Write Error." I tried rebooting but that didn't help. The last time that I tried taking screenshots was about a month ago and I never had any issues until now. Since the last time that I successfully took screenshots on my NT I have installed Swiftkey Tablet X, Hacker Keyboard, Anycut, Text Plus, Google Voice, Google Translate, and Root Explorer. I don't think any of these apps should be the cause of the problem but I'm mentioning them just in case. That I can tell so far, screenshots is the only function that my NT is having a problem with. I can live without being able to take screenshots but I would like to fix this issue if possible.
Can anyone help me fix my screenshots issue?
1. You using CM7 or rooted?
2. Same SDCard? You might try re-mounting your SDCard.

I have had the same problem for weeks and tried all the suggestions I could find on the Internet, nothing worked. Then I found a posting explaining that a possibility would be to move the default installation location to the sdcard. So I used the terminal emulator (rooted phone), to check the current setting first. It was already redirected to external memory, so I tried to change it back to internal memory (Command: "pm set-install-location 1"), which solved the problem!!!! I now can install in internal memory, using link2sd I keep the internal usage to minimal, problems solved! :good:
Hope this helps,
Peter

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Xcover's Memory and Link2SD

So here it goes:
I'm using a Galaxy xCover running a android 2.3.6 stock rom, and because of the memory problems i rooted it and used link2sd, I'm running a nonbranded probably european setup phone, so here are the specs right now:
internal memory 148/165mb
sdcard 2,97/14.84GB
sdcard (linkedpart) 1.09/14.4GB
system 214/238mb
cache 1.69/25,55mb
So basiclly my problem is that the internal memory is so full i can't install any new apps.
If someone has a solution for my problem it would be nice to know...and i guess that problem is been had by a lot of people but i used the search engine on the forums and on google but i didn't find a solution. Because i already downloaded the terminal emulator...and used the su / a2sd chachesdreset stuff but it doesnt find the a2sd ... so this workaround doesnt work for me...
Cheers and thanks for the help,

Did you create a second primary partition on the SD and linked the apps to there?
In link2sd, you can try more -> relink files, move stuff etc. Do all of these (except Restart / recreate mount script).
Still, some app data are internal. You can go through the (settings ->) app manager and sort by size, and delete data, clear caches... Made a big difference on my phone, since browser history, cookies and other stuff from apps were still internal and eating ~20 MB.
Also, an app like for example SDmaid can help you clean system logs, temp stuff, ... which also can save several MB.
Btw, you can uninstall unnecessary system apps with link2sd, like Samsung Apps, Social Hub, smart runner....
I have the same problem...as if the links are not working... I do believe that I've done everything right.
I'll get back if I find something out, and will be very interested to hear from others.

Lars

Update:
Having checked again, and tested by moving a few apps around, I have found that Link2SD works fine with my Samsung Galaxy Xcover.
These are the steps, I used:
Rooted the phone using the Universal Gingerbread Root kit v 25
Bought a 32GB Class 10 MicroSD card, slotted it into my Windows PC, and partitioned it using MiniTool Partition Wizard. I created one large FAT32 partition to be used for "regular data" and one ext2 partition at about 1.8GB to be used for Link2SD.
Installed Link2SD from GooglePlay and followed the available instructions.
Only problem, I have now is that sometimes Link2SD gets stuck when I move apps from the SDcard to Phone (which I believe uses the native app2sd method) and when I also when I try to create links for Apps that are installed (partly) on the SD card (using the native app2sd). I leave it for a good long time, but Link2SD just stis there saying the it is moving the app. Eventually I wait a little longer and then terminate Link2SD; it has not caused damage (yet). But I think I will set the installation defaults to install to Phone by default for the future, and then use Link2SD ...thus not using the native app2sd at all.
Next I will find out which of the Samsung-installed Apps that can also be removed or linked. Some of them are classed as "System Apps" even thought they clearly don't need to be ..e.g. YouTube...
PS: during the process above, I also installed Titanium backup and ran some backups - just to be on the safe side ...and I also at an appropriate point reset the phone to factory defaults, just to get it to a defined state before making big changes...
PS: my Samsung Galaxy Xcover is running Android 2.3.6 and the kernel version is 2.6.35.7
Regards,
Lars

Since the firmware update I have the same problem. Also with freezing system apps. After killing L2SD, it seems like it was successful though.

It worked in the previous firmware I sent a bug report. However, you should upgrade to XXLL1 (released 14.01. or sth.), much faster and it fixes the scroll bug.

in my experience a very double edged sword, cause this blew my hole system 3 or 4 days ago had to reinstall everything from scratch ... and also one titanium file got corruped so i lost this apps data completly.
But on the other hand i have been tweeking around with my phone quite a bit in the last some days and it seems it got a bit faster.
@lars: about the stuff you can savely remove:

Hmm, everytime I tried to mount a pair, the phone reboots, then the mounting resumes but I got the message "Error: extSdCard permission - FM could not fix the external permission and ownership. This could lead to read/write issues for apps that try to access your mounted internal sdcard folders. Please try to remount all pairs after a while manually". Never used foldermount before, so IDK what's wrong here :silly:

thanks for trying, that seems to indicate foldermount is the problem, not necessarily my chinese root. haven't had luck getting su installed in its place, but it lets me change build.prop which is what i needed to get to .510. really wanting foldermount to work so i can install more than just 14 gb of games and movies.

can confirm remountrebootfix app does work! First i installed the superuser app from the app store, did not delete the chinese su app though as it doesn't seem to be a problem (keeping it for now), rebooted to make sure i still had root with superuser instead. then ran the superuser.bat, deleted and reinstalled busybox (smart install). 360root method works directly on 510.
vroot doesn't work on 510 (if applied directly).
I myself used vroot on 475 kernel that is flashed on a 510 FW, and reflash the 510 kernel after root. Now my 510 is rooted. Also changed the chinese root apps with superSU.. Plenty of step-by-step guide in other threads in the general section

Just plug your phone into your PC with 360root application running and hit the big, green, ROOT button and there you go.. Your phone will restart automatically, that means the process is done and you can close the application on your PC.
Remember the 360root requires connection to chinese server and therefore depending on your connection you might have to set up proxy on your PC. More detailed guide for this, go here.
Also, disable your antivirus, especially those that come with firewalls.
If 360root somehow doesn't work, use the 475 kernel workaround to root your 510. Guide here.
Another easy way (and more reliable) is through recovery, guide in here. But this requires unlocking your bootloader.

If you want to avail this feature to move apps data to sd card you need to root the phone(Use kingo app for rooting) and install gl2sd app from playstore.
This app will copy the huge data of bigger games and few apps to sd card. That way you will be able to free up lots of space. You can then install many heavy data games on your phone and enjoy.
But yes you have to root the phone first. If you're afraid of warranty, then don't worry you can make the status back to official and get the warranty back. There a tool called triangle away to do that. So, if you want to have this feature then root. Go ahead and try if needed and enjoy. Cheers ! ! !:good:

Out of Space : Unable to install some apps
Hi everyone!
Pardon me, I'm just new here, I signed up bcoz I'm losing hope now.
I'm having issue installing "some" apps on my phone. (some are installing)
Search and tried TS steps found online to no success.
TS steps done:
Restarted the phone
Clear Cache on the recovery mode
Clear cache on each application through setting>application manager
Clear cache using android assistant
Tried the MMI code *#9900# and deleted dumpstate/logcat
Deleted the "mysterious large file" .thumbdata
Checked and deleted some odex files
Checked and deleted files under android/data
Installed Lucky patcher (no troubleshooting option)
Unable to install logcat
Unable to search appslib or app-lib
Phone information:
Galaxy grand quattro
Not rooted, stock ROM
phone memory : 1.74GB/ 5GB
SD card 1.5GB/ 32GB
Running process (under applct'n manager): 662MB used, 219MB free
RAM status : 568MB/845MB
I can just reset my phone to factory default but that's just avoiding the problem, I would like to resolve the root cause of the problem. (without rooting the phone)
I believe that we can resolved this issue.
Thank you in advance.

First of all make your phone rooted (then only you can delete modify files) use odin to flah CWM recovery and install superSU with CWM, some apk need root access ( like lucky patcher, root explorer) then use root explorer and go to sdcard/andriod /data and delete only the files which are not working and then try to install them it will work.
Here is the link to rooting :
