I couldn't find that directory but I did find system\customize\resrouce but the boot animation isn't there.
Anyone know?

Yeah I could do that but I want to flash it on a custom rom.
Just search the system for bootanimation or downanimation. It should show you where it is located.
Ok I found a bootup animation zip file and another bootup animation file with no extention. Same with the bootdown animation. What do I do with these? Just copy and paste into the new rom ?

Try d/l a bootanimaton.zip in /data/local/ directory and see what happens. Maybe jt or dirrk removed the commands to play Samsung's qrm splash animation and so it trys to do the legacy bootanimation.zip method.

It's still there with jt's kernal.
Hopefully JT or Dirrk can fix this in their next kernel so that way we can fully do bootanimations.zip without lags.

Bootanimation zip files won't work on our fascinates. They are using a .qmg file system on the boot animation so the normal bootanimation.zip to change the boot screen won't work.

I havent tested the Ext3 since im on a Ext4 ROM but should be working fine. tell me if there not!
\\-----NEW - - NEW - - NEW -----// Animation is 540x960 at 25fps.
Version 3 - HAVING PROBLEMS UPLOADING!***
Looping & Optimized PNGs for a faster boot time, smaller file size and faster install but image quality suffers a little but @25fps hardly noticeable.
ADDING NEW COLORS - GREEN - B&W - RED - BLUE* - CYAN ... I might slow down the animation back to 15fps.
blue kinda came out more of a blue'ish Purple might not upload it.
Im still working on RED, dont want it to be PINK'ish.

"M-Atrix-v3-Black&White-Ext3-CWM.zip" B&W uses the Green BootLogo

RESERVED FOR AWESOMENESS! I guess?
*UPDATE* - 3\21\2012 - FINALLY Adding v3 and Ex4 support.
Minor bug: Theres a (1/25th of a second) black screen FLICKER from the boot logo to the Animation. no idea why...
Other Thoughts: looking back at v2 i like the M-Atrix going down the screen may make a new one. and update the v2 to ext4 as well.
*UPDATE* - 10\7\2011 - Working on Version 3.
*UPDATE* - 8\16\2011 - to Full CWM installable files.
If the files don't work update your CWM.
If that doesn't work tell me, I'll check them.

Alright so i made this boot logo and animation for my Atrix.
Thought i would share it.
Ive only tested it with my Motorola Atrix.
I call it M-atrix or matrix short for motorola atrix.
if you need instructions on loading them then just search on the xda forums.
The zip contains everything Logo.bin and the bootanimation.zip
also the original .png used to make the logo so if the logo.bin doesnt work for you u can make it yourself.
Animation is 540x960 and 10fps.

This is extremely nice!
Cheers!
I spent about 6-8 hours building and customizing every frame, i couldn't stand that BRIGHT At$T animation that came on before so i had to replace it.
I dropped it down to 10fps because i made it go by to fast at 15fps.
and the first few version lagged a little but Ive optimized the animation files a little to make it lag less.
I still get a stutter while the matrix part is going down but other then that its pretty smooth.

It's very easy to do this without a flashable zip.
For the boot logo, follow the instructions here, (most of you will only need to follow the sixth instruction) -----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16019521&postcount=1.
For the boot animation, just backup your current animation in /system/media by renaming it, then copy the boot animation from here into that location and rename to bootanimation.zip.
Reboot and you are all set. Takes less than 5 minutes!
Excellent work bro!
You're pro in designing ^^

You copied and pasted his boot animation into one of mine and never changed the update script, so it says Green Matrix on install. I'll fix it now.
Also, as a FYI to everyone, this is just the boot animation, not the boot logo.

totally agree, perfect with Alien. Just wish the android logo would appear for the duration of the animation so there's no black screen.
Here is the CWM version with updated script. I also included the boot logo files in the zip, although they won't be flashed. I'll look at extending the animation tonight when I get home and have more time if the OP doesn't get to it first.

Are you on CM7? It seems like a lot of people are having trouble flashing boot logos after switching for some reason.
Anyways, just try taking the logo.bin out of the zip and flashing it through fastboot the command is
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
its a little less convenient but it should work
Could it be an issue with the incompatible with the recovery you have. When I was trying to piece together a CWM zip file to change a logo that was of of the things that was interfering. That might not be the case here but just thought I might throw my 2 cents.

Had to get new Optimus G as I broke the prior one. But on the other after rooting and unlocking the LG logo was replaced with a nice looking Google logo with an unlocked lock on the bottom. How do I get that one back?
One a related note last time I unlocked the boot loader would show at the top what selection I'm about to choose (Normal, recovery, boot loader) but now I'm having to guess which one I'm about to select as there is no indicator. Is there an update that fixes this?
tl;dr How change lg logo on boot. How update boot loader to show selection indicator.
You have to be rooted and bootloader unlocked to change the boot animation.
If you look in the themes and apps section, you can find multiple boot animation threads (the Google one you're describing is one of them). You gotta download the zip and locate it using a file explorer like ES file explorer or root explorer. Then copy and paste it to /system/media and rename it bootanimation.zip if it isn't already. I also recommend renaming the current bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.bak just in case something goes wrong so you'll still have that one.
I recommend making a backup in recovery just in case (although you shouldn't need it).
As for your other question, idk what you did but I've always had a "hidden menu" for my bootloader. To get in recovery, I hit volume down (volume up) twice then the power button.
EDIT: it's been a while since I've done this but I think this is how it's done. If someone else wants to chime in, feel free.

It was never converted.
I have an LG Optimus G. I rooted, then unlocked it with the FreeGee. I then installed Ginsix Rom. My boot loader had the selections at the top. The little android bot was standing next to it and it would show me the different options as i hit the volume up and down.
Every time i booted the phone up instead of the "LG" splash i had a black background with white letters saying "Google" in the center and on the bottom was an open lock.

@Digil,
The splash screen is built into the kernel- he mentioned 'Ginsix' rom, so that's where he got it. The rom I have has the splash screen he mentioned - as for pulling it out of the kernel and making something useful, at this point kernel stuff is above my pay grade. :silly:

Easiest way to change the boot animation is to use one of the CWM touch recoveries (14.4.5, 14.4.6 or 14.4.7 to be specific) and then flash the zip using the change boot animation in the "Advanced" section.
It can also be done in the CFX settings in synergy's ROM (IIRC).

OK that explains the boot animation. Is the recovery selection menu difference, the same issue?
