So, I did an idiot thing and flashed the last Meanrom I believe version 4.0. The idiot part was that I flashed Leedroid Tweeks De-odexed version. Well, now my phone only boots to the HTC screen. When I hold volume up while powering on the phone, it takes me to HBOOT, and then looks for updates. If I cancel the update, it says reboot. If I do the updates, it says reboot. Can anyone help me get my phone working or am I out of luck and have to buy a replacement? (I tried posting this in the Meanrom thread, but I don't have enough posts to post in there).

ok...you need a way to manually go int your sd card .... aside from your phone.... and delete the file you have on there that its trying to update...prolly PG86IMG.zip....once you delete that you can reinstall it to your phone and then go to your hboot screen and then you can go from there... just the key is deleting that file some how from that micro sd

It doesn't give the option to go into recovery on the HBOOT screen. It should say Fastboot
Recovery
Reboot
or something like that. You didn't brick it, just messed up the ROM partition by flashing incompatible things. You just need to reflash the ROM or another one in recovery.
Great, I will try that on my lunch. A buddy of mine is going to get an adapter for my micro sd to be a full size sd card. I will then put that in the computer and see if I can delete the file you mentioned. Thank you very much for the reply. I will post back if this fixes my problem.

If there is a PG86IMG.zip wloftus is right. Remove it then boot into recovery and reflash.

Hey, everyone. I know this is probably the last thing you want to read, but I could really use some prompt help.
I tried the method posted in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686551
I got to step 3, but it didn't let me choose recovery. It just started installing the update. However, when it rebooted, it never got past the white HTC boot screen. I pulled the battery, pulled the MicroSD card, went back into the bootloader and tried running Factory Reset. Same result - stuck at white HTC boot screen.
Some more information:
1. Device is completely stock - no customer bootloader, stock Gingerbread OS. (2.3.4. That's why I wanted to try this in the first place. According to HTC, my IMEI number block hasn't been updated for ICS, yet.)
2. I renamed the file "update" as per the thread.
I'm hoping that the devs and contributors here will have mercy on a lowly noob who's having problems. I'm hoping to either return to stock and wait for the ICS update, or get to the point where I can install a custom ROM found here. (I was thinking SpeedROM). But, as my device has Gingerbread (or, potentially nothing at this point), I'm not sure where to go from here.
Thanks so much for any suggestions. You guys are the best, and I love this site.
Not sure if you've tried this yet, just name your file as PH85IMG.zip and place it on your microSD. Boot into bootloader and let it run the update. If this is what you did, then I have no clue what happened.
Just out of curiosity, why didn't you get the official OTA the official way if you're completely stock?
PS - This question belongs in the Q&A subforum. Remember that next time if you don't want to get flamed =)

The official update just never showed up. I literally lost count of the number of times I went into Settings > About phone > HTC software updates > Check now.
I've been on probably 4 chats and 4-5 calls between T-Mobile customer service and HTC tech support. The general consensus is that my phone's IMEI number is in a block that hasn't been authorized for the ICS update, yet. But, I really wanted to upgrade, and I think it's ridiculous that it's been 2 months since the update and my phone can't.
Ok, so I'm first going to apologize, since I've heard that double-posting is very much not accepted by forum communities.
I've tried several times to fix this. I renamed the file as was suggested, and went back into the bootloader. It (apparently) scans the MicroSD card for files, and says "Loading...[PH85IMG.zip]" (It attempts to load PH85DIAG.zip, says no image, and PH85IMG.nbh, and again says no image)
After this, it says "Checking..[PH85IMG.zip]" (That is the only thing it says)
Then, I get the options:
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
If I go into FASTBOOT, it doesn't really help - just reboots either the bootloader (repeating this process, obviously) or the phone, which goes back to the white HTC boot screen it's hanging on.
If I go into RECOVERY, there's not option to install the .zip like the other page suggests, but if I try "Install update from SD card" it gives me "Illegal operation" and reboots.
If I go to FACTORY RESET, it acts like it's reinstalling, but leads to the same problem.
I'm thinking that I just nuked the phone's internal storage, and completely deleted the original OS. Any ideas on how to resolve that?
Or, if that's not the problem, where should I go from here?
It's funny....I troubleshoot computers for a living....but I'm lost right now on this phone.
Thank you for the continued help, gents! I'd really like to not have to throw away a $350, brand new phone....
I would guess you have one of the 3
the wrong carrier's ruu
A bad download of ruu
Renamed wrong (maybe you added ".zip" when it already had the ext but is just hidden by windows 7)

Hm....well, it's not the third. I doubt the first, unless the wrong file was linked in the thread I mentioned. I'll try downloading the file again.
So, if this still doesn't work for me, let's attack this from a different angle. Are there any other options? Could I change the bootloader, install the leaked ICS ROM, then install another one after that? Like I said, I had been considering trying out Project Butter Speed ROM. I know that the instructions for all that are in the Amaze Bible thread, but there's such a large volume of data there, it's hard to sift through.
Edit: Re-downloaded the file; no change. Any more suggestions?
I've been away a while, but if my memory serves me correct, to install it using ph85img, you must first relock your bootloader. are you locked or unlocked right now?

I never unlocked or modified the bootloader in any way. That's why I thought this would work. My impression was that basically everything had to be stock.

I think you need to reconsider the name of your file. If it shows up as PH85IMG.zip, more likely than not, it is actually named PH85IMG.zip.zip
This is due to how Windows reads files. If the file is of a known file type, it will not show up the extension (even though it IS there).
Try renaming it to PH85IMG and then put it in the root directory of the SD card and then boot into bootloader. It *should* read it.

I'm a computer support tech. Trust me, I did not add an extra file extension, lol. Windows does indeed recognize it as a zip file, so I know the extension is properly set. Name is just set to "PH85IMG"
Not trying to sound like a jerk; just making sure people know where I'm coming from.

I understand that, but if you read through the Q&A section, you'll know why I imperatively make that statement. Can you link me to which file you're trying to flash? I'm thinking it might be a wrong file you're trying to flash.
When you flash or update via a stock ruu, it may seem stuck but it isn't, first boot always takes time, read through this thread properly when I get home, the guys seems to be here, so I'm not needed anyways.

Hello,
Im having problem that i couldent find any topic for anywhere, every topic is about bad card and no topics about bad slot.
So my SDcard slot is dead. And funny thing is it just stoped working without me doing nothing. I was not installing nothing or anything, screen just lighted up and it was showing that SD card was removed Phone ofcourse would not show me nothing in gallery, music etc.
My first thought was that SDcard died, but when i put my card in friends phone it is working perfectly well. I also tried putting his card in my Evo and same thing happened, it started to load files and imidiatly showed msg that card was removed unexpectadly.
So, as the problem was phone and not card, my first reaction was "Great, at least I didnt lost all my data on card, ill just return my phone to original ROM and send it for repair" becaose I have one year of warranty left.
But latter on I realized that i do not now a way of installing a ROM without an SDcard, and im not evan sure that is possilble,
So can annyone please help me with either fixing this card reader problem (if it is some way of software error) or helping me restore my phone to original ROM so I can send it for repear.
Thank you.
Go to recovery, do some wipe, when it's doing the wipe immidiatelly pul out battery. Do it till the phone dies. Now NOONE can find out you have root/custom recovery on it
Or, easy way, download newest RUU and flash it via PC (you don't need SD card i think).

Loving the first option, that is something Chuck Norris would do. But too bad ass for me Im afraid.
Second seems ok. I just need help to do it. I guess there is a tuttorial or something as im not so experienced in flashing. I did a s-off, rooted the phone and flashed the different ROMs like 20 times but thats it.
EDIT: I was just searching for a topic with instaling the rom directly from PC without SDcard and I really cannot find evan one.

Go here and download the file which match your phone's original carrier. Make sure you install HTC Drivers on your pc and run the exe file that you downloaded. Make sure also that you downloaded the right file which should have the SHOOTERU or SHOOTER_U word on the name and NOT SHOOTER ( shooteru is for GSM and shooter is CDMA ). The software will install the original ICS firmware released by your carrier. The downside to this method is that it will also update your hboot which depending on your carrier might be hard to downgrade to lower hboot for flashing custom roms.
One of my friends BRICK his phone and he has no idea how. He has a rooted HTC ONE X on AT&T network with Viper XL (Not even sure what version of the ROM) probably from last december.
It is now stuck on the Booting animation screen and won't get passed that. I am able to access TWRP recovery, but there is not zip files or backups any longer. When I originally flashed this phone for him I had a zip file on the root of the internal SD CARD. It no longer is there and i have not rooted/flashed a phone for almost a year and can't remember.
I tried to fastboot oem lock and it fails (was thinking i could some how get it to boot and install stock jelly bean)
I am able to mount the SD card via TWRP and throw a rom in there via zip, but when i unmount i and go to restore or install i do not see any zip. When I mount again the file i put in the phone no longer exists.
Is there a work around or another way to flash any custom room. I was thinking of CM10 nightly evita... I don't care what rom as long as i can get the phone working again for him.
Is there a way to flash a rom the way we flash boot.img via fastboot where the files can reside on the PC and not the phone? Any assistance/tips would be great. Again i don't care which rom I flash and i have TWRP recovery access. Currently i have CM10 downloaded if hat helps. Thank you in advanced.

OK i found it sorry about that guys.
Glad you found the correct forum eventually. However, if you con boot into recovery, I'd suggest using adb to push a rom to the phone and flash that. I've always had Samsung phones, and this is my first HTC, but I would imagine the same theory applies to all vendors. If your phone can boot into recovery, and you have the right drivers installed, you can push a file to the phone and flash that.

Yeah but I would need a ROM that allows to be installed via FASTBOOT Opposed to zip file thrown in the sd card. Do you know of any Jelly bean rom? I haven't been on these forums for a while and have no idea what i can use. If you do please let me know if not thanks anyways and for your recommendation much appreciated.

Ah, was doing to many things at once, just re-read and saw your dilemma. I don't know of such a rom, but I'm still learning the ropes for HTC so I can't make a recommendation. Best of luck to ya!
Phone was working great until it just froze, I did a battery pull and now it won't go past the HTC white logo screen.
It boots into recovery, but only as safe mode.
Cannot access internal memory or external memory.
Haven't tried wiping the system since I can't really access the storage space to flash anything, or even restore a backup.
It's not dead. Simone else just posted the same exact problem.
Download the latest ruu. Pull your external sdcard.
Put sdcard in the computer.
Copy the ph85img.zip to it.
Put sdcard in phone.
Boot to bootloader.
Follow the on screen instructions.
That'll get you back to square one.
Also look for Odysseus' post in the other threads. He has some good information on this subject.

As Chevy said, someone else posted with this exact same problem a day or two ago. Since you're S-off and unlocked the procedure is to download the latest factory image for your device. You can't flash one from another carrier or you'll brick it. There are links in one of the "pinned" threads at the top of the forums.
Once you have it downloaded rename it to "PH85IMG.zip" (note the capitalization must be exactly the same) and place it in the root of your external SD card. Now comes the fun part. It won't flash on an unlocked bootloader, so you must relock it using ADB commands or with the Amaze toolkit (don't worry you won't loose S-off). BTW I hope you saved the HTC unlock blob from when you first unlocked as you'll need it again to unlock later.
Flash the image from the bootloader hboot. When it's finished then go to settings / about phone /software information and accept any HTC updates. With a T-Mobile phone there will be at least three OTA's depending on which image you installed. Two of them are 30MB and require rebooting in between. The last one just updates a couple of .apks and doesn't need a reboot. You need these to get the latest radio.
Once all of the updating is finished you'll be back to factory with the latest radio. Now all you have to do is unlock, install a recovery, reroot, SuperCID, and you'll be ready to play again.
I hope this helps
Thanks again for the help, the phone is functional again. Does anybody have any idea why this happens?

I'm as careful as they come. but it happened to me a few weeks back too. Sometimes you just get a bad flash, other times NAND memory cells get stuck (they wear out over time) or are slow to accept data. All it takes is an important part of the file system flashed onto a bad data block and the whole thing can get stuck in a loop. For me I had been trying out a bunch of ROMS and somehow a kernel failed to flash. I ended up with a kernel mismatch (kernel modules don't match the kernel) which resulted in a bootloop.
As a precaution I just keep an old 2GB SD-card handy that only has the Amaze image on it, so in case of an emergency all I have to do is relock the bootloader, stick in the SD card and I'm back in action within 15 mins.

Flashed via SD card.
By the way, can we dual boot this phone?
I know, it's risky booting it to two os, but I'm just wondering cause making backups and restoring nandroids are becoming a pain every time I want to take good photos. :/ So I was wondering if we could dual boot.
I dual booted my old defy that only had about half the ram, and half the processing speed lmao so why not this device?

I could dual boot on my old HD2 as well. I don't believe any devs here have written a bootloader with that capability for the Amaze, but you could always just do a search and find out for yourself. It might be just a matter of porting an existing app to this device. Good luck!!!!

I googled it, the only thing that came up was an old thread about someone asking for the system/cache/boot sizes.
Looks like no one really wanted it for this device.
I wish they did though, the Sense camera is amazing

I know what you mean. One reason I keep coming back to NRG is because of camera and video. I can't find a replacement that comes close.

I've actually never flashed that one lol
But I was reading up and apparently there's a HD camera mod (can't remember if it was the desire or sensation) that was supposed to take better 1080p videos and superb photos.
I saw it floating the forums a while ago, but it was a sense cam so I couldn't flash it. I had Pac 4.3 at the time.
Now I'm on 4.4 Evervolv, so far so good. Lowest ram usage I've ever had with a lot of apps installed, so I'm happy with it.
I may or may not try Cyanogenmod 11 but I'm in no hurry.

Thanks again for the help, the phone is functional again. Does anybody have any idea why this happens?

No idea why it happens but I had the same symptoms - wouldn't get past the HTC logo but this happened after I had simply powered the phone off and removed the battery after I wasn't going to use it for a while [playing with the Lumia 920].
It seemed like the partition map gets wiped out or something causing the problem.
The hdd camera is in the aroma installer I'm my viper Rom.
Well also be the camera default in the upcoming release of jellybean sense and other future releases.

Sounds good, but no kit kat?
One Rom at a time... Lol
Ravike and I have been working on this for a while now. Can't progress until we get the next level finished, then the next version will be hopefully easier. We are getting closer. Ravike has a lot of building from scratch to do.

Ooooh
I used your rom, I love the full gpu rendering. Haven't tried the camera yet, but looking forward to that HD mod that's on there.
Nenamark2 gets 50.5 fps!!!!!!!!!! That's the most I've ever seen this device go up to!!!!
Damn! Awesome lol
Antutu shows that the graphics goes over the 4000 mark. Definitely love it.

ViperAmaze was one of the first ROMs I tried when I got mine. I loved everything about it except I had Bluetooth pairing and WiFi tethering issues. Since I'm a truck driver, I need hands free on my daily driver. Unfortunately, it seems most if not all of the builds that are not derived directly from the OEM HTC Amaze, have some type of Bluetooth or WiFi issue that's not easily overcome.
