Guide to DARK TREMOR app2sd script- - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

[LINK BACK]
While installing rom people often ask for link2sd or s2e support
As of enabling Dark tremor app2sd is difficult for them....
I did an extensive research and came up successful in using and applying it....
I would like to share it here....
####
Before beginning it is assumed that you have a custom clockwork mod recovery and a custom rom is installed on your device. Alternatively, if you are in a stock firmware/rom and want to partition your sd card please Install Clock Work Mod Recovery and Flash a Custom Rom on your device. Also since partitioning your sd card will erase all your data stored in sd card, it is recommended that you backup your data to your computer. Now that you have backed up your data please follow these simple instructions to partition your sd card and install Darktremor App2sd script on your android smart phone.
PARTITIONING SD CARD
_________________________________
1. Reboot your device into Clockwork Mod Recovery.
2. Go to Advance>>Partition SD Card option on your recovery and select a size (for ext 3 partition). This will create an ext 3 file system partition on your sd card called sd-ext. The size of your sd-ext partition should be determined on the basis of how much apps and games you are going to install on your device.
i have 1 Gb sd-ext on 8 gb memory ...
3. Also, select swap partition size as 0 Mb (select 64 or more for gaming purpose)
4. [Optional] Format your sd-ext from mounts and storage>>fromat /sd-ext option in CWM recovery.
5. Reboot your device and open a terminal emulator or shell commander and type in the following command to make sure that your second partition (aka sd-ext partition) is mounted at boot.
mount | grep sd-ext
You should see the following code:
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /sd-ext type ext3 (rw,noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1,nodelalloc,data=ordered)
INSTALLING DTAPPS2SD
___________________________________________
6. Now download Darktremor Apps2SD (link bottom) and copy it to your sdcard.
7. Reboot your device in CWM recovery and then mount your data and system by going to mounts and storage>>mount /data and mounts and storage>>mount /system options respectively.
8. Now go back to main menu and go to install zip from sd>>choose zip from sdcard option and select the dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip file you downloaded from above.
9. After the script is installed reboot your device.
That’s all. You have successfully installed Darktremor Apps2SD on your device .
Note that the device will reboot again after you reboot your device. This is just to move all your apps to the second partition (sd-ext partition) and is normal.
Also if you want to manage your Apps2SD settings you can either use commands in terminal emulator or download the APPS2SDGUI application from market and manage everything from there. One of the useful command can be a2sd help. Try it on any terminal to see the help file that comes with Darktremor A2SD.
How to check if Apps2SD has been installed correctly...
________________________________________
The following information is for those who are still unsure of whether Apps2SD has been installed and if it is working correctly after root.
Open a Terminal Editor on your phone
When you have the client open, type "su" to gain super user access, and then hit enter. Now type "ls -l /data" and hit enter. You should see a few lines, a couple of which should read on the far right column:
dalvik-cache -> /system/sd/dalvik-cache
app-private -> /system/sd/app-private
app -> /system/sd/app
Notice the -> indicating symlinks and the 'sd'
You can also run: busybox df -h to check the /system/sd that the folder is being used
If this output is visible to you, then Apps2SD is working properly and you have installed it correctly. You will notice that by checking Menu > Settings > SD & phone storage, there is still some internal memory going down due to cache, other data, etc, but the main apps all go on the SD card given the above result. I currently have 29 apps installed (including Google Earth, which is 22.1 MB in size itself) and my internal memory currently shows 119MB of available space.
You can perform more extensive checks by executing the following command:
ls /system/sd/app (this will list all the apps which you have installed to the SD card)
CONFIGURING APPS2D
_________________________________________________________
open terminal emulator,, and type the following:
• a2sd check : Checks a2sd status; displays information incl. where your apps, cahce and data are stored.
• a2sd cachesd : Moves dalvik cache to sd-ext partition.
• a2sd nocache : Moves dalvik cache back to internal storage.
• a2sd data2sd : Move /data/data to /sd-ext/data .
• a2sd nodata : Move /sd-ext/data back to internal storage.
• a2sd remove : Moves apps back to internal storage and sets no a2sd flag.
or u can simply use app2sdgui to do things.. a help is given in app just proceed on installing the app and go to help menu
PRECAUTIONS: tips you should take in mind
________________________________________
After installing Darktremor Apps2SD don’t move your apps to sdcard either from Manage Applications Settings or by using app2sd pro or similar applications because it will ruin all your settings and your script will not work .
Also you may notice that your used space in internal storage shown in Manage Applications Setting is not decreasing even after you install Apps2SD and you may think that the script is not working. But remember if you followed all the instructions from above and got the same results as explained above then the script is working. It is shown so because system is fooled to believe that the apps are in internal storage but in reality they are stored in the secondary partition we created (i.e. in /sd-ext/app folder) on your device.
HAPPY INSTALLING APP2SD script...

dont use manage applications to move apps.. ..... just use the commands or better download the a2sd gui app(easy to use than using terminal emulator) from playstore.. dta2sd itself moves ur app to sd card.... ... rest can be read from the post

yep it will affect ur sd-card somewhat...the effect is after long duration and for good quality sd-cards is very low......4-6 years time........ as the applications try to continuosly use the data sector on the sd-card..........
BUT ITS practical to use... so dont worry

[Q]Link2SD and CM7 KANG = ??

Following from this thread, I finally partitioned my sd card and had link2sd installed in my ace.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919326
I moved my apps using apps2sd. I found out there are some remaining data in the phone. Are those data : dalvik-cache (.dex) file and lib files (.so) ? Or those are the game saves data. So, if i use Link2SD, i can completely move those data to sd?
It shows an error when I try to start it.. I could not link any of the apps.

my 2nd partition is on fat32
did u create both partition as primary?
btw i still think link2sd is buggy and annoying. at least in my experience. sometimes it fails to mount partition during booting and just prompt to reboot, or the moved app wouldnt even show in app drawer.
A2SD works perfectly for me.. There aren't many functions as Link2SD but it does the job..

Yes, both are primary as guided from the thread. :S
So any other than link2sd that can fully move an apps including it's data etc. My internal memory getting full soon.
Pahan88, is App2SD free same thing as A2SD?
here if we said a2sd or app2sd it generally means dartremore a2sd. u need to be rooted, and if ur on gingerbread u need to use kernel which support init.d script which is ketut's cfroot kernel. darktremore a2sd can move apps, data and dalvik cache to sdcard
edited: sorry, just realize ur thread title said cm7 kang. ur already rooted and using cfroot. u just need to flash darktremore a2sd via recovery
Thanks.. Do you mind showing me the right thread? I did a search and there are so many threads about it.. I dont even know which one is the right one.
partition ur sdcard with two partition, both primary. 1st partition as fat32 and 2nd partition as ext2/ext3/ext4
get the flashable zip file from its thread here
put it in sdcard, boot into cwm and choose to mount system and mount data.
choose to install zip from sdcard and flash the earlier zip file.
get terminal emulator from market, open it and do
Code:
su
a2sd reinstall
and ur phone will reboot.
when it boot up, open terminal again and do
Code:
su
a2sd cachesdreset
to move dalvik cache to sdcard, or
Code:
su
a2sd datasd
to move data to sdcard
Hi, I got a new sd card 4gb. But I partitioned using CWM. I checked through MiniTool Partition Wizard, it didnt show any 2nd partition but it did shows reduced MB. Partition via CWM is ok?

Sorry, but Yea its that simple But if your a frequent backup/restorer kind of person, using advanced mode may get very confusing and you will get force closes as it brings anything you moved to SD-EXT. Don't worry about the Cache size and ext4 journaling in the settings.
to use link2sd with CM7 KANG rom .just mount the second partition as ext3 format.link2sd will work.

a few questions of a2sd cm7.1 and lowmem settings

I have a few questions, if you are so nice of answering me, i almost have my target config but i have a few doubts, well i have done all of this:
I did partition from the clockworkmod and do this:
From clockwork to install partition with swap to ceiling and minimum 1024 of ext i moved to sd dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip in the sd enter recovery (cwm) again to go to advanced unmount system, unmount sd ext and next did install the zip
Next gone to start mobile to put in sd a2sdgui and to install, a2sdgui 0.91
Gone to the terminal and write first su and next a2sd install
Later went to a2sdgui dalvik cache on sd ext, etc.
Then I did a new backup of since I stay the system with clockwork just in case
And finally moved my copy of safety of the sd that tape-worm in my PC to the sd again
Dont now if installing the script from the recovery I have to give him to mount system and to mount sd or mount sdext or not for that in adjustments cyanogen he says to me that I do not have expansion to sorrow say to me a2sdgui that if then also I am interested in knowing ifi have to install a2sd.ext4.update.zip or from the commands spending to ext 3 and then to ext 4 from the commands, since the amon ra is not for the galaxy ace or I believe it (if you know that say to me) and 4extrecovery either.
This way i dont know if my sd turned to ext4 before installing the package, which I did was to give him to the command in terminal him a2sd convert-ext4, but clearly the whole configuration at least those those were linked of system to the sd not works, this way so then I did a restore from last backup done after install the script, other question is why when i wrote in terminal a2sd lowmem-ultimate, the change did but when reboot the phone is a2sd lowmem default? I spent hours reading forums but for the poor galaxy ace, there are not much explications of this process.
Sorry if my english is bad,is not my language
Pd finally Ive found an script that converts sd ext automatically into ext4,but i have other question in post3
jusr sharing my experience..
i'm using Grif cyanogen.
also darktremor a2sd.
my card converted into ext4 partition using my pc. using mini tool partition app which tell your partition format.
i've issue when converting from ext3 to ext4 via dta2sd.. bootloop happened..
basically cwm recovery 4.0.0.9 format my sd-ext card into ext3 not ext4... so i had to do it manually via PC.
last thing... sorry i can't understand the point of your curiosity... pardon me.
thank you. Ive found an script that converts sd ext automatically into ext4 and install a2sd auto as well its name is DT-CM7-2.7.5.2-EXT4-signed.zip. But i think that kernel overclocked cm-7.1-oc-kernel-2.6.35.7-perf-CL562111.zip of my ace not support swap because when i do a2sd check in terminal show this Swap - [ ] Partition not present or no swap support.[*] Swap does not start.
,but in a2sdgui show swap is on, and when change in this app swappines to 75 is still this value, but when reboot the phone back to a2sdgui and show 30 forever in swappines. (otherwise in a2sd check show correctly that sd is en ext4)
Do you know some kernel for s ace and cyanogenmod that support overclock and swap?
Thanks for possible reply.

Extended internal storage... i don't get it...

Ok people, I don't understand any of this. Does anyone care to explain to me how this ext4 thing works and how should my phone be set up?
first of all running cwm5 and ICSunday2
At first I partitioned my phone with cwm5, make a 800mb partition on my sd card. Then I used Titanium backup to move my apps to SD card. I set up from CM settings to install apps to external... now all my memory keeps getting full with time. With that partition I don't think I gained anything just lost almost half my SD card capatity.
my current memory according to Titanium:
system rom: 81/216 free
internal: 65/187 free
sd card 684mb/1.1gb free
Also CM settings sais that the device deosn't have expanded internal storage...
Can anyone help me get back to square one and guide me from a clean slate??
Cheers
P.s. while updateing apps i get storage full warning....
Download s2e this will help
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
will this detect all my apps and put them in the correct place? including them ones already on the sd card moved by titanium?
EDIT: great it just put me in a boot loop, fkin awesome
Edit2: restoring -_-
I used this on all my phones on my galaxy s i had 724 apps installed and on ace ive got353 apps it will put everything like cache apps etc in your ext
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
yeah i got that, except that the app got my phone into a boot loop... had to restore from cwm
I'll try to explain (CMIIW):
Firstly, the option in Titanium Backup and CyanogenMod settings refer to native Apps2SD, i.e. the one used by FroYo up. It will move data files to your partition under /sdcard/.android_secure/ and/or /sdcard/Android/
a2sd, however (such as DTA2SD, Link2SD and S2E) takes ALL the files of an application and puts them in the ext4 partition, then creates a link (a shortcut in Windows terms) in /data/app/ (and other concerning directories).
My personal favorite is Link2SD, because you chioose which apps to link, what files of the app to link and supports FAT, ext2, ext3 and ext4 partitions.
I have yet to try S2E.
Sent from my GT-S5830
OK, I get it. Thanks. But will it move the apps from the sd card that the titanium moved?
I tried the apps, both move the apps to regular sd aprtition not to /sd-ext
someone tell me what to do step by step, not "download **"

"Both apps" as in Titanium Backup and CM7 Settings?
Okay, I'll try to give you directions to use Link2SD (if you want to use another app, that's fine, but I'll only post instructions for Link2SD for the moment):
1. Download and flash CWM 5.
You've done that, right? Okey-dokey, next step
2. Partition your SD card with CWM.
It's recommended to backup then format your SD card in order for it work optimally. After that, boot into CMW and partition from there. I don't remember where, but it should be under the "advanced" option.
You'll get a prompt on how large the partition will be (I recommend 512MB; it's more than enough). After that, there'll be a prompt on the swap size; you should choose 0MB if you don't plan on using swap, otherwise pick ~200MB.
The created partition will use the ext3 partition; DTA2SD and S2E (AFAIK) don't support ext3, but Link2SD does.
3. Download/install Link2SD from the Market.
Pretty straightforward there.
4. Open and set up Link2SD mount scripts.
The first time you open Link2SD, there will be a dialog on what your 2nd partition filesystem is. As stated above, it's ext3, so pick ext3. After Link2SD creates the mount scripts, reboot in order to be able to start using it.
5. Pick apps to move to sd-ext and set up Link2SD settings.
Sidenote: you can't move system apps to sd-ext, for safety reasons.
You can batch-link your apps to sd-ext by: Filter icon (the kitchen funnel thing; don't know what it's called) > User > Menu button > Multi-select > Menu button > Select all > Menu button > Actions > Create link > OK. By doing that, all your apps will be moved to the ext partition.
If you want to automatically link to sd-ext every time you install an app: Menu-button > Settings > Auto-link.
Hope that'll work. Link2SD never fails for me (except for that one time when the mount script didn't work, but that was because I selected the wrong filesystem type; user error).
thanks for the guide. earlyer today I got a little problem I used the link2sd but i selected ext4, i moved the apps, but they went to the normal partition. i deleted link2sd and used s2e, s2e worket but only transfered the apps from my phone not the ones from my SD card that link2sd moved.. now any app i try to install or move the phone reboots... or sais that i have not enough space on my phone to copy back
any helps with that?
edit: ill just restore my backup and start over
Yup worked fine now, thank you so much again. You should post it somewhere as tutorial for noobs

Try these steps
1. Make an ext3 partition of your desired size on your sd card using a pc partitioning tool called minitool and put it back in your phone.
2. Install an app called link2sd and launch it.
3. Select ext3 when the app asks for which type of partition the mount scripts need to be created.
4. Reboot the phone.
5. Again launch the app and this time if it shows the change log, the mount scripts are installed correctly.
6. Select the apps you want and create links. You can link the app as well as its dalvik cache.
7. You can even set the app to create links automatically when you install a new app.
8. All the linked apps will be in the sd ext3 partition and best thing is that widget apps too will work.
Hope this helps you.

[Q] Google Play and Dialer problems in CM9

First, english is not my native language, so mistakes can occur
i've installed bieltv.3's CM9 for my Ace-i and it looks great, very smooth. But there're 2 things i don't like.
- The dialer app can't call to anyone. The others only receive calls from my ace but i can't do anything: Try to stop the call, turn back to the launcher by pressing home button, etc
- The google play store always show error 491. I tried many solutions such as deleting and readding google account, clear cache, reinstall it. None works
That's all. And i only can say thanks to anyone who help me with this becuz i'm Vietnamese
CM9 will never be stable for daily use. Bieltv.3 stopped development of it. CM11 has the basic functions working, except the moderate lag it has.
There is a help section for this matter and KAGE is right , dump it in favor of either cm11 or cm7 roms for more stable environments . However some bugs are common among CM's though , due to the fact drivers never been published and other things .
For Google play error 491 have you done the following process , after deleting your Gmail account (delete the Google Play updates too, if you have on your system) :
settings>>Apps>>All> Force stop, Clear data and cache for Google Play Store, Google Service Framework and Download Manager
Reboot your device and add you account ?
Second quick method was about clearing both cache and Dalvik cache through CWM ,, assuming you have done it correctly though .
Another solution which might work for your CyanogenMod 9.1 - BroadcomCM Beta 5 is a specific library and a binary was not included in the ROM ( fixed by Nightly Coder ) :
- Added libdrmframework_jni.so to /system/lib
- Added drmserver to /system/bin
Uninstall your old Google Apps package with the App Manager of the ES File Explorer ( i.e: GoogleApps_GearCM_CM9_20140711) and rest of the instruction from here and here ,, Follow them carefully to resolve your 491 error .
Hope i di help U and next time make your topic @ proper sub forum ( Help section not general part ).
I know and now I'm using cm11 now. It's not so smooth as cm9 and stock GB but it's still so cool. For now I only got 10.23mb left on /system partition because the cm11 was too heavy to put in with other flashable apps even GAPPS. Thanks u guys for advising me. Sorry for bad English

For your CM11 , you can get yourself some extra storage by implanting modified version of S2E script/app from this topic .
Here is the installation and guideline process for your convenience mate :
1. Download and install S2E
2 .Reboot in CWM recovery
3. Go to advanced>partition SD card>choose size (512mb or 1024mb)
4. After that choose ext 4 then choose 0mb as swap partition and continue
4. After this is done go to mount and storage and format sd-ext there
5. Reboot your device
6. Open up the S2E app you should see now that it will give you GUI or a menu and can choose 'Applications' and 'Dalvik cache' to send to you sd-ext
7. After doing all that reboot your phone and your done

Hope I did help You

Link to the apk/script clearly stated , it was modified for CM11 only , but you can get the general stance of the app/script from play store as well . If you got any problem after you planted it inside your CM11 , please notify me for further assistance .

Ok, now i'm using modded s2e from psyke83. It running well, but there's no option that it will mount /system to /sd-ext, only for the /data partition.

SD card has a serious low read and write access in comparison with your internal Nand flash memory , so imagine what will happen to your critical functioning parts of your OS when whole /system partition being transferred into your /SD-ext lol
You just created an ext4 partition on your SD card and used S2E to move your apps and free up internal phone memory , which is the purpose of this mod by moving your Dalvik and applications .
The ext4 partition is mounted as /sd-ext, with directories /mount points for apps, Dalvik cache. The data existing on the internal /data/app, /data/Dalvik-cache, etc, is moved to these new directories and the directories mounted within the /data file system structure of the phone without any effect on your speed and stability of your system. Thus, the phone is using the stuff on /sd-ext ( the ones i instructed )just as it used to use stuff within internal memory.
Hope i Did Help You
