Phone specs:
Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon SCH-i535
It was already running KitKat 4.4.2 before I rooted
This is my first time rooting and flashing ROMs to my Samsung Galaxy s3 and I have bricked it. I'm pretty sure it can be salvaged but have yet to find anything that works.
I have written the long version for those who need it, but the short version is that I screwed up and can no longer boot into recovery mode or normal mode, I'm not even sure if Download mode is working, and my device isn't recognized by Kies or Odin on my PC so I cannot yet do a recovery from there.
As of now my phone only boots into Odin Mode and gives the following info:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-I535
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
SYSTEM STATUS: OFFICIAL
QUALCOM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
BOOTLOADER AP SWREV: 2
and displays the yellow triangle error and says: Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please use Software repair Assistant & try again.
I tried to use Samsung Kies which has an emergency firmware tool but my device will not connect and become recognized by the program.
This is pretty much where I'm stuck.
Keep reading if you need additional info.
Steps leading up to problem:
I was able to Root the device succesfully
I then downloaded the latest CM11 package (cm-11-20140217-NIGHTLY-d2vzw.zip) and Gapps
I also downloaded the TWRP recovery img (openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-d2vzw.img)
Once I had these downloaded I got the app [ROOT] Rashr - Flash Tool
I opened the app and tried to do a backup but I'm pretty sure it failed, or at least it said it failed. I couldn't find out how to check, but was not worried since I have already backed up my important files to the verizon cloud.
On the app I went to recover using other file and found the TWRP recovery img I downloaded.
From here I booted into recovery manually, but it did not bring up the TEAMWIN screen for TWRP like I've seen in other video tutorials so I rebooted into normal mode went to the Rashr app again and followed the prompt to do a Recovery boot using the TWRP img.
THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEMS BEGAN:
It began to lead into recovery mode but it gave a message that said something along the lines that I have tried installing a custom OS and to take my phone to the nearest verizon store.
I turned it off and tried to boot back normally but got the same error.
I tried to boot into Download mode and was successful! So I thought yaay!
Read a tutorial to reload a stock version of android here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2586319
I followed all the steps but when i got to 7. which said You should see your phone under ID:COM (you should also see it has been added in message) I was not seeing my phone there. I figured it may be OK since I was able to install the drivers so that meant the USB was working so I went ahead and ran Odin to recover Jelly Bean 4.3 onto the device.
My thoughts and guesses as to what the problem is:
I think that it may be because I was already running 4.4.2 and/ or didn't have the proper bootloader when I tried to do the TWRP recovery.
Am I on the right track? Thanks for any help!
Please ask. In correct forum this is int'l s3 (i9300) forum

I have encountered a similar incompatibility trying to use the SM-J100H TWRP recovery onto a SM-J100Y handset. Trying to boot into recovery after doing this freezes it, and I have to power it off to get out of it.
It looks like some further development is needed to create a compatible Rom/TWRP image that wont brick the SM-J100Y.

RAM: J100y-768MB ; J100H-512MB
SIM: J100y=Single SIM ; J100H=Dual SIM
Network: J100y=3G 850, 900, 2100 MHz, as well as 4G 700, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz ; J100H=3G 900, 2100 MHz
NFC: J100Y=yes ; J100H=No
Hotspot: J100Y=yes ; J100H=No
AudioRecording: J100Y=yes ; J100H=No
I just wanted to install TWRP. Does anyone know if you need to unlock the bootloader for that using Odin? I would not have thought so, but I could be wrong.
Rooting SM-J100Y
'J100YDXU0AOC1_root.tar' image by Hosam Kashto (Password "hosamkashto") does indeed work for rooting my SM-J100Y but i fail to connect to my network Skinny, if there is a way to edit the image and make a boot img for the updated firmware version i'll be willing to give it a shot. And how hard is it to create a TWRP/CWM rom for this device?
root access successful
I have successfully rooted my samsung J100Y with no issues what so ever, J100YDXU0AOC1.
You need to install kingoroot on your phone first then install kingoroot on your PC, Also install ODIN V3.07 on your PC to get this done properly, when I get home I will upload the files to my dropbox and give better details how to do this correctly.

- Install Kingoroot on your phone
- Install both Kingoroot and Odin V3.07 on your PC (in the files provided below)
- Put your phone into download mode, power off the phone then hold down power, home and volume down until you see the little android robot
- Open Odin V3.07 and plug your phone in
- Click on PDA in Odin V3.07 and navigate to the file J100YDXU0AOC1_root.tar and press Start (let it work its magic)

I have included the original firmware in the files just in case something goes wrong for you, you can use Odin to restore with the original firmware.

i got root j100y. took 2 days but got it. Flash J100YDXU0AOC1_OPPOAOC1_V4.4.4_Repair_Firmware.zip. Unzip and find necessary files. Used odin3 13.3.1 latest version, insert files BL, AP and so from the zip. If its taking too long more than 20 mins, power off phone and back on but dont unplug from pc. Should start where it left off. Now, set up phone when it reboots, settings, about phone, tap build number 5 times, enter developer mode, enable usb debug, allow installations from unknown sources. Down apk kingoboot, install on phone. one click root. Device should reboot. Now check root with an app. Should be done if not run kingoroot on pc. Keep trying and follow any prompts on phone always allow and install anyway etc. It is possible.
Hey guys I flashed my i9300 with cm13 and GApps, but i didint want the cwm so i decided to flash twrp recovery. When I rebooted the phone, it was stuck at download mode. Can anyone help me? Can anyone give me the link for the firmware? And if there is a firmware my pc can't detect the phone. Tried samsung drivers already.
Please I need a step by step procedure to get out of softbrick.
Try with turn off your device reboot to recovery reset everything and reboot if not and your still on download mod update drivers using Samsung kies and here is firmware list (pls filter your country) http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9300/
Hello. I have a Galaxy Mega GT-I9205. It's hard bricked and so far nothing helped to get it back to work.
I've tried to flash a firmware with Odin but the Program stucks on Initialisation step and the firmwares can't be flashed.
Current state:
-If normally powered, device shows "Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue. Please selekt recovery mode in Kies & try again." a.k.a Death Screen. Also shows the same screen when trying to go into recovery.
- Can't go into recovery mode but still able to go into Download mode.
-Can't connect with Kies.
Also tried odin on different Pc and still the same .
Is there any solution to make Odin do it's job ?
Or an alternative way like if it's possible to flash a custom recovery through Odin and make it able to boot into or
flashing a custom rom through odin?
Sincerely Thanks!
It would seem that you are trying to restore with Kies and not try to install via Odin. Find the ROM for your carrier and your phone and load it. If you OTA'd the device and it has a ROM that cannot be rolled back, you just might have to take your phone to the store for a restore. Otherwise check to see what is the best ROM to use for a brick (RTMF/Search the entire database and Google a bit) to get your phone up.
Most OEM ROMS are available for various devices. I'd try an older ROM and see if you can OTA with that or flash the most advanced one that is able to be rooted. Your call....
Update: Maybe this link will help -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600976
CM13 was not successful. I can only use Odin D/L in my phone. I can not get into recovery mode.
I can see from many articles here that it is easy to get out of this semi brick mode, but I am spoilt for choice and do not want to ruin the phone completely.
My computer runs Ubuntu 16.04 therefore I need to use Heimdall.
Boot into download mode, connect it to your PC, flash a recent version of TWRP with Heimdall and go from there.
but I was unable to find a TWRP version for Ace 2:
I have tried to follow this guide:
[Guide/How-To] Install, Use Heimdall, and flash back to stock https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113195
I do not know what stock file to download. I assume I have to match my region. My phone was unlocked. I am in the UK. Could you please point me to a source for the right stock file?

It is advised that I should not use a version with boot loaders, because my phone is showing signs of booting (but not proceeding beyond the Samsung logo).
I am getting very muddled with this process although it is supposed to be easy.
What I had intended to do is:
Put the phone into d/l mode odin
Use Haimdall -frontend and run the oneclick process after loading into Haimdall the correct file for my phone
and here I am stuck because I do not know what to load because the list does not include my phone, but I have Haimdall installed on my computer.
