Network Speed Terrible on .15 - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I went back a few pages and didn't see any specific topics on this. I've got a C1 prime and have had no issues with it until .15. Ever since I loaded the .15 update the Wifi speed had been atrocious. Is anyone else experiencing this or know of a fix? Is there a way I can roll my prime back to the previous build?

Yes. I had .11 since 2 days ago. Wifi Speed wasnt that good but better then in .15 and the reception of the Wifi was better in .11 then in .15
since i have .15 i cant receive Wifi in one of my rooms where i get reception with .11
So .15 didnt make Wifi better for me but worse.

went from bad to worst for me too

My wifi connection seems about the same as with any previous firmwares. But i'm looking forward to an update anyway... Hope they update the apps and overall stability (browser, task manager)^^

I haven't noticed any reception changes myself but my house isn't that large. Same rooms & same activities as before .15. I don't have before and after speed tests, but I have relatively small files I regularly pull off my local network (< 100MB) that would normally take seconds to acquire are now taking several minutes. Page loads are exceptionally slow and forget about watching anything on Youtube now.
I know my local network is fine. All of the other devices on my network (wired and wireless) are all performing normally.
Is there a way to see what was actually changed in .15. I'm hoping it's a config change(i.e. build.prop) that got altered that we can just set back to the .14 settings?

Same thing for me. WiFi was never perfect, but it's actually gotten slower with this last update.

I documented this is the 1.5 thread, but wifi speeds went up 18x with .15.
I was getting 1 meg down prior, but with .15 I was able to maxe out my home bandwidth at 18 megs.
I was pretty amazed.

For me the reception is much worse than before. The speeds are as bad as before !
I cant get over 30mbit even i have a 100mbit connection and router but i think thats router setting.
Is there a way to just flash a wifi an older wifi version?

LoL well only when im next to the Router :// Yea its not bad but sitting next to router i can use the PC^^
when i go to my sleeping room which is around 10 feet away i get only around 3Mbit and that Sux. With .11 it was better.

yes. my wifi is much worst. Thought it was just me. With .15 I can"t watch Youtube without constant buffering and I can hardy pickup my wifi at work. Previously, wifi was fine. I have the first models received in Dec. BCOKAS

Im not 20ft away from the router ( i can see it lol) and i'm getting one or two bars of wifi signal. 15mbps 20 ft away, 30mbps 3 feet away.
My ipod gets better reception, and it too has a metal back. I feel raped.

Same here, .15 fixed the battery issues, but the BT and wifi really bad now!
I bt tether to razr phone and it's useless now. The wifi will not work with bt stereo device connected, which is one if the original ICS issues ... DOH ... boomerang bugs
I was sooo happy when the .15 update smoothed out so many issues, now I'm truly frustrated, you cannot screw with wifi on a non-wwan device. Now I have a $500 digital camera without zoom
I heard rumors of a hardware solution in the works, I hope so...

So roll it back then.

Guys - if .15 is that bad - roll back to .14 or whatever version gave your Prime the best overall performance. - I realize this is not an option for everyone, particularly those who had to overcome rebooting issues, but until ASUS decides to inculde a changelog, fixlist or ANY DOCUMENTATION AT ALL WITH THESE UPDATES - its the best we can do.
I know there is always variance in the field, but the differences between MOST customer units with Primes has just been awful - One guy get a fix, 3 guys get a new bug. GPS gets better, no wait, now its worse, - like the earlier post said: Boomerang BUGS!!!
At first I was impressed with Asus rushing out these updates. Until I realized that thats exactly what they are doing... RUSHING out updates without enough testing. .15 was tested, as far as I can tell from the thread, by XDA users for under 1 week, and ASUS pushed it to everyone.
That was when I pulled the reigns... ENOUGH! - I had a slew of issues with .15, the ONLY update that caused me ANY issues. Every other update had been fine. .15 had me witnessing screen static, bouncing bottom bar, and my best GPS to date that I had on .14was GONE with .15 - Not a single satellite view even outdoors, whereas I had 13 locks one day on .14 after someone commented how good their GPS was. Of course I couldn't maintain a lock, but it was the best to that point.
Anyway, if things have gone downhill or backwards after an update, use this method to roll back. ****, I don't even root since there is no driving need for it at this point, and I am NOT unlocking my remaining 10 months of warranty. I rooted to roll back, then let the root get lost on the flash to .14 - I am happy again. I just wish I knew how to blow away the .15 that's sitting in my notifications, waiting for me to accidentally hit it ,LOL
Roll back:

POLL: Does Vulcan Nerve Pinch Fix Your Wifi/GPS?

There've been a fair number of positive results with the Vulcan Nerve Pinch, so this is to quantify the findings.
I can't edit the poll, but please take "permanent" to mean 2 days of regular use. So if a single application works for at least 2 days, then vote this, else vote temporary. If improvement didn't last for 2 days, then indicate how long it did last.
Detail of the issue and of the Vulcan Pinch:
The Prime's three antennas use pressure contacts (pogo pins) that can be marginal, causing weak wifi and/or weak or no GPS. Pressing/pinching on the three locations, or along the Prime's top edge (landscape), can improve reception in many cases. Per the poll so far, about 25%.
See pics in below link to find locations of the antenna contacts,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21847680&postcount=52
Well I just did it about 3 hours ago, so I don't know how "permanent" it is yet.
But, so far so good.
You're holding it wrong
unfortunately, no. my gps still doesn't see jack and wifi still slows to a crawl when there are walls between prime and the router.
Well what do you know, they named a Fix after me.
To what I understood there were two different kind of problems for GPS :
1) Some people had no GPS satellites detections at all.
2) other people had satellites detections with locks but at a low reception level.
I guess this fix is only working for the case number 1. In that case, people are now joining the case number 2.
For people who were already getting a few satellites (case number 2), it will change nothing as the back cover is still the same ...

Except maybe make it worse.
I got a gain of 10db on the WiFi, no change to the GPS.
Did not vote.
My Wifi and GPS work fine. I picked up my Prime on Friday from Best Buy. It's the C1 serial number.
Sent from my Samsung Epicâ„¢ 4G Touch
I pickede mine up Saturday from BB (Orlando) and B1 Series with no functional GPS but amazing Wifi. I have even went a little father to beat it againest the steering wheel and see if i could "jar" something to work a little better. With no luck GPS has not improved. Wifi reception is just as good as all my other devices. Does not fall of as quick as some of recorded.
The sad results of this pole show how many of us are willing to squeeze a $500+ tablet.

Pinching didn't help. My GPS was fine until the last update. I ran GPS test before and after the update since the update was to fix GPS. I wanted to see the improvement, but I only got to see how it made my GPS completely unfuctionable. The same exact thing happened to my Dad's Prime. I sure wish Asus would get their **** together.
I tried the vulcan pinch a few days ago but did not affect GPS. I even drove block to block to see if google maps updated my location but no go. I dont think it affected my wifi either but I think my wifi was good to begin with and had thought it was bad as I was basing it on the signal bars.
Got a c1 model from BB last saturday. After ics update and vulcan pinch, Gps Went from zero sat to 11 views with 8 locks indoor. Unfortunately, view/locks are intermitents. WIFI didnt improved and is quite slow but stable. I noticed that i cant switch on/off the gps device from anywhere in the settings since the ics update, but it was still available before the update.(?)
Got my squeezer from Best Buy (serial BC). Wi-fi working fine, 4g LTE is sweet. Gps works only outside, but locks in and out with movement, bad. All the pinching for not. Dock works great. I will keep returning trying different units until Best Buy bars me.
BC model from Comet (UK) wifi works fine but had no GPS signal prior/after ICS update. After the big squeeze the GPS is now working indoors, albeit with weak signals (best result I had was 11 Satellites / 7-9 locks - range of 15-31 SNR). On the road it managed 5-7 satellites with locks dropping in and out.
I'm going to hold off on answering because although I have wifi analyzer and gps test pre and post Squeeze that shows it improved......I also have the similar results from 3 weeks ago or so when my gps and wifi were "fine" and then they went "bad".
So something changed for me even before the Squeeze (no, I didn't drop it ) So I'm hesitant to say if mine has been "fixed" temporarily or more. I think that IF this connection is the culprit then we all might find that our reception might be hit or miss over time. Hell, all I did was reboot a few days ago and I got a lock on a few satellites v. none prior to rebooting.

It's just the original technique that is applied to the Prime, that's all this Vulcan Nerve Pinch is.

How I Fixed My Wifi

Turned on GPS..
If I stand at the furthest point in my house and do a speed test with GPS disabled I get
34ping 2.30Mb/s down 3.82Mb/s up
I enable GPS and do another speed test..
11ping 17Mb/s down 4.44Mb/s up
Although this has, for me, fixed my Wifi my GPS is non existent, I am yet to get a single satellite with GPS test while in the middle of my garden.
Let me know if enabling the GPS helps with Wifi speeds for any of you
Maybe this is why my WiFi seems OK. I just leave GPS on most of the time. (although I haven't tested my GPS as it is wintry here)
interesting, i will have to give this a try.....thanks for the info sir.
Was really hoping it would work for me since my wifi gets below 5mbps which sucks...
Did multiple test and nothing major changed..
Glad it worked for you..

You're sure enabling GPS didn't simply make speed test select a more appropriate server?
It would be better if folks tested wifi speeds over their local network, I think.

Interesting. Is this with the latest firmware? Play with Wifi Analyzer as well. Check your Wifi -db signal. See what is going on with that.
Odd that just enabling GPS and not enabling would get different results. Maybe something with the latest firmware.
I can't test because my prime is totally modded. External antenna etc.

My GPS works (marginally) . Works better with the GPS fix mentioned in other threads. However, getting a GPS fix from a "cold start" sometimes takes a while. For example, Decided to try it on a short grocery trip. When I finally got the fix (already at the store), it said "2050 sec to first fix"....Once it got that first fix, it worked fine the rest of the way home.....Again with that fix applied....although I marginally see sats without the fix.
Another side note: I happened to notice while it was searching, a little info message appeared that said "Best results are obtained if the unit is horizontal".
But sometimes that first fix can be a bear to get.
Good luck,
Bob

Other than the check boxes in LOCATION Services, there is no other control. When you open an app that can use GPS, you'll see a little icon in the notification bar that says "Searching for GPS"
If the GPS system were totally working, you would never lose the signal...The only time you lose it is if it is marginal.
What is the impact of GPS on battery life, if it does not work and it keeps searching without finding anything?
Battery will be drained very very quickly. I am sure.
Think about it

The GPS will only find your location if an app asks it to do so. So if the GPS icon isn't showing next to the clock the GPS is not in use.
Not sure any of you have noticed... Prime doesn't have a gps.conf file on it... I added it last night and got 8 of 13 locked... from inside... by the window. Check out system/etc/gps.......
One other thing I noticed.. in build.prop my wifi.country = is set to GB even though I bought the transformer in Canada... can someone check and see if they have anything different?
I've always wondered if the Wifi issue was a software problem. My wifi is "okay". The most annoying thing is it randomly completely disconnects from my school's wifi network and then it shows that there is no wifi available. The reason why I think its a software problem is because if I disable and re-enable the wifi it starts working again with me being in the exact same location.
Kind of odd...

I saw this on previous firmwares, but never on the latest one. It also seemed, in my experience, to be related to the chrome beta. If I brought that up it would immediately stop any data being transferred over wifi and would then lead to a disconnect.
I never did uninstall the chrome beta to see if that fixed it entirely, but updating to the latest firmware did seem to stop the issue.
Suppose I'll hop on the bandwagon and give it a go.
It's hard for me to get any real speed degradation without actually dropping below the connection threshold with these rural speeds, but I'll try.
My wifi works pretty good after some build.prop tweaks, i would suggest that before modding the tf201. Basically, i added net.tcp.buffersize.wifi with some values and net.tcp.buffersize.umts with the same values 4096 ,87380, 256960, 4096, 16384, 256960
Of course you need to be rooted

[Q] wifi problems EVO LTE

Hey guys,
tried to search if any other problems like this exist...
My WiFi seems to be disconnecting often... Meaning it still shows as connected, but it wont load internet pages or download anything / stop at some time downloading.
Now i tried to look at my WiFi with WiFi analyzer... at it seems that I am on the best channel for my area... but still... I also tried 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz same results it seems...
I am not happy with it... it seems so unstable, that even at home often i use 3G just because it doesn't crash that much... if the WiFi works i get great speeds though... but it seems like a hit and miss....
any idea?
You may ha e.faulty connectors as that is the problem w some of the one xs also go to WiFi settings switch it from auto to 2.5 GHz idk if 5ghz works well or not

Suspect an issue on the router's end...
I have the same frikken problem. Drives me crazy. Ill be rolling thru XDA or whatever, and suddenly my phone disconnects wifi and switches back to 3G. Then maybe a second later reconnect to wifi. I have no explanation for it. I have an HTC rep calling me today. Ill let you know what he says, but I wouldn't hold your breath LOL. I know man it sucks.

I just updated the firmware on my router as well. Well check back after a couple days but so far so good
Wi-Fi not the greatest for me either. Running a WRT54GL which is one of the most rock solid routers ever with Tomato never have issues with it on my 3D or any other devices. Having similar issues you are having. Sometimes just not staying connected even though it shows connected. Other times no wi-fi on when I wake the phone. I'm guessing it's bugs other people have reported similar problems. Going to see how it performs after the next OTA update I'm hoping they fix some stuff. Also I hope they fix the very annoying set time zone message. Not sure what caues that but you are certainly not alone with the wi-fi issues.
I currently have mine set to 2.4Ghz only not auto since I don't use N for my phone there is no need for it and it sucks more battery at least it did on my 3D.
I would just hang tight and see what the next OTA brings.
This is disturbing. There seems to be a great deal of variation in build quality (i.e. Wifi issues, screen light bleed, data issues, etc.). I have had none of these issues with my phone. However, multitasking is a joke, and google wallet is broken after working previously. My phone is none stock at this point.

Posting it here as well in case someone remembers how hot their phone was when their wifi drops..
Just throwing in my experience for the record...
I'm a network administrator for a living so I know a few things about making wifi work. In a nutshell my Evo LTE will not maintain a stable conneciton to *any* wifi N network under any settings. I've tried mutiple routers and multiple ROMs for my phone and none would work properly. I'll spare you the details but channels, encryption, spectrum, root, preamble... nothing would work on N.
WiFi G = rock solid
WiFi N = sucks more than Paris Hilton
Since I concluded that G works perfectly I've just made sure to stick with G networks. Not worth fighting Sprint for a new phone that may very well do the same thing for me. :victory:
Not sure if you guys are having the same issue I've been experiencing, but my wifi issues have went away since using Mozilla firefox. I messed with my router settings, used 2.4 ghz, 5ghz, wifi n, wifi g, different security configurations, a bunch of different wifi apps, just about every browser on the market and as odd as it sounds, only Mozilla has solved my problem. If I use any other browser, I get hang-ups and phone gives me the impression that wifi isn't working. I don't know why or how mozilla works great while all other browsers' performance is inconsistent and frustrating but its a fact. I strongly recommend anyone with "wifi problems" give mozilla a try.
has anyone found a solution to this wifi issue?
i can connect to my home router with no problem, very stable. but outdoors, on cablewifi, or optimumwifi the connection is terrible. the signal shows connected, but there is no data being uploaded or downloaded. i think it might have something to do with channel congestion, but my friends iphone has no issues whatsoever.
so whats the deal with the evo's wifi radio???

Wi-Fi issues

Hey guys, lately my wi-fi connection has been very slippery, as if it drops and then reconnects often, although it remains physically connected to my router. I don't know if it could be my router since every other device in my home is connecting to it fine. My phone is able to connect well to networks outside of my home, though, so I am unsure. Do you guys think it's the routers fault or maybe a kernel issue of some sort (I'm running stock kernel)? I've been having this issue on Tranquility and Viper ROM (maybe also on Mean) so it can't be A ROM issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
sounds like u have a gaf phone man.. if every other phone in ya house connects fine.. its not the stock kernel.. also the update we just had the OTA was supposed to fix wifi issues.. so u mite have something up with your phone.. alot of people had wifi issues that why they had a fix in the for it in the OTA we just got... my phone did the same ishh before the OTA now its fine..
I drop 3G like It's cool but that's sprints problem, never had that issue on WiFi. This phone has very powerful radios.

There's an app in the Market called WiFi analyzer. U can use it to see what other wireless networks are operating in your area. It will also reccomend the best channel for your router to be on.
Sometimes there is a lot of interference on your channel and switching it will help or has helped quite a few people with your problem that I know of.
I had a problem at work with a linksys router not issuing an ip address to my phone consistently. What I did is take a screenshot of my ip address, subnet mask, DNS address defaults, etc. when u could connect. Then I made myself a static ip using that info. A good app that basically let's u run ipconfig and other network troubleshooting applications is an app called Fing.
I've worked on this issue far and wide. If the new ota didn't help and u still get random disconnects thru WiFi then u need to exchange your phone. It is actually a problem with the radio. My first EVO LTE did it and I could fix WiFi disconnects temporarily, but not permanently. This, my 3rd EVO LTE works great with no ota installed.
Good luck. Hope I was of some help. Pm me if u need more help.

For me, I was on a different channel than my neighbors with no other wireless device ever had a problem in the 12 years I've been there.
What I do, Go into wifi advanced and click on the high-performance setting.
Only use it when needed as it burns battery.
Post back if it fixes the drop issue for you. Fixed it for me.
.,
Last night I flashed the awesome kernel and set the frequency to 2.4 seemed to go away. Today I flashed tranquility rls 1.a and I'm running it as is and having the issue again . I'll try out your suggestion throughout today and tomorrow, thanks for the tips guys!

I've been hearing about people talking about the wifi issues since day one, but never actually run into them. The past few days though I've been trying to stream and download things (exporting through dropbox) over wifi, and OMG, what the hell is this? Every 2 or three minutes the connection just stops - the wifi bars at the top still show the wifi connected, but the the stream or download just stops. Sometimes it starts up again, sometimes I have to disconnect from the wifi and reconnect. And the whole time the wifi indicator doesn't indicate any loss of signal - once in a blue moon though you'll see it disconnect then reconnect. I don't want to hit that high-performance setting (although it seemed to help the in the limited time I used it), because it uses more battery. I thought the update was supposed to resolve these issues. I know I never had these issues before the update. None of the tricks mentioned in this thread seemed to help. Just wanted to report the issue in case some other people are having it also, and hoping an update will come out in the near future to resolve it. On Viper4G, btw. If have time at some point, I'll try to flash another rom to see if I get the same issue.

It's kind of strange, mine has been dropping but the actual indicator in the status bar goes off when it does.I've seen it connect and disconnect 10-12 times per minute.I'm also running latest firmware/radios on the latest version of ViperRom.I'm also running Enoch's Kernel but not sure if I had the problem before the kernel flash or not.
im having the same issue. ive only really started noticing it because i was running chameleon pretty much since i got the phone and this never seemed to be an issue. now im on viper4g and my wifi will drop sporadically. it drops, i see the 3g icon for about half a second, and the the wifi reconnects. sometimes itll do it just once, sometimes itll do it continuously... the longest ive let it go before interfering is about 30 seconds. but my battery usage screen tells me that it goes on for way longer than that if left alone.
anyway, im on the lastest firmware, and i have the channel set to 2.4 (5 seems to knock everything in my apt, including my phone, off the router). i use the best wifi performance option sometimes, but as has been mentioned, it drains the battery. the phone wont sleep with that option checked. also, it seems to happen more frequently when im on the opposite side of my apt from the router.
ive read stuff about using a screwdriver to pull the antenna pins up a little, but that scares me. i dont really think that has anything to do with it anyway as ive tried that test where you squeeze the phone to see if your signal changes. it doesnt.
really, im kinda at a loss here. im thinking that i might try to exchange the phone if i cant get this figured out soon, but i dont want to do that if its something with my router or if the replacement is going to do the same thing.
I am using Viper 4G and have been having issues with my wifi connection dropping but more recently my phone has been restarting only while connected to Wifi. I haven't tried changing the wifi Frequency band to only 2.4GHz , but I will once I get home after work. I hope it works because its getting kinda annoying to have my phone restart so much while its just sitting idle.
I believe the rapid connect/disconnect issue some of us are having is also related to the phone not playing nice with particular routers. HTC referenced that fact when the 1.22 OTA came out. The changelog said the issue was fixed on how the phone communicated with certain routers and the disconnects should be eliminated. I can attest that the new update has made it a little better, but still not 100%.
The router at my work has been perfect, I've never disconnected from it once.
The router at my house is a whole different story. I have given up on downloading a ROM with my phone, directly to my phone. I will start the DL, sit the phone down and go do something, only to come back and find "download unsuccessful" every single time. I know it is because it is disconnecting. I can sit there and watch it happen.
The router at my friend's house is fine. Connect once, and never worry again the rest of the night. Obviously I need a new router. More obviously, HTC's software needs fixing. I shouldn't have to buy a new router just so one of my devices can stay connected to it.
Interesting seeing all these reports of dropped connnections with Viper4G. I've been running it for a few weeks and have never had a connection drop while it was in use on either the 2.4ghz or 5ghz bands of my d-link router. This thread over here suggests that replacing your Sense Settings.apk with an AOSP Settings.apk solves the problem for some people. I can't verify since I wasn't experiencing disconnects, but the AOSP menus are cool anyway

My issues (detailed above) have apparently resolved themselves. I haven't lost connection once today, and I was streaming and downloading all day.
I don't see how this actually did anything but here's what I did. I decided to try another kernel instead of the stock one that comes in the viper rom. I knew the wifi fixes that HTC supposedly made were in the new kernel, and I knew I wasn't having any issues until I updated, so I thought I'd give a custom kernel (based off the old base) a shot, and play around with some new governors and overclocking while I'm at it. I did a nand backup and flashed awesome sauce. Wifi issues were gone, but I didn't like the kernel, stock seemed smoother. So i restored my backup, and for whatever reason, my wifi issues remained gone. Like I said, I can't explain it, but there you go.
Nice to know I'm not alone with this. My Wifi drops every so often, particularly at night time or with downloads. Hopefully HTC figured out a way to sort this out 100%.

If you have a wireless router like myself that operates at two distinct bands, go into your Wi-Fi settings and choose the band that is at the higher range, and setting best performance is also a good idea, although this might result in greater battery drain. HTH!

Adding support for all the 5GHz wifi channels on Nexus 10 (Lollipop)

I hate the Nexus' lack of 5GHz UNII-2 and UNII-2extend channels.
Poking around I found the /system/etc/wifi/bcmdhd.cal file. With root access you can change this file.
For some reason my tablet says ccode=EU which should be Europe.
I switched it over to ccode=US and now I can join my channel 52 AP
You can also set it to ccode=ALL. I am guessing this allows all the channels...
After the change just turn the wifi off and on and it should apply it.
Not sure why it was set to EU, maybe a bug?
I was having the same problems as others after upgrading to 5.01 - bad wifi, would connect for a short time the no data, would not connect to 5GHz access point, etc.
After making this edit on my tablet wifi is much improved. It is much more stable, have no issues with dropped connection and connect on 5GHz channels.
I set mine to US.
I was having the same problem, as well. This resolved the WiFi issues that I've had some upgrading to Lollipop.

After running on 5.01 with this edit for two weeks I have reverted to 4.4.4. The edit improved WiFi performance at home but I still have lots of issues connecting and keeping reliable connections when at other locations and even after returning home. Most of the time a reboot allows me to connect when it initially can't but that is a pain to do every time I change location.
Hope that 5.1 fixes this for good.
Tried this out and immediately connected to 5GHz, got 40MB/s from my bedroom, besting my wife's iPad. Streamed a couple 1080p videos no problem. Came back later and it was garbage again, <1MB/s despite full bars. Gave up and reverted back to 2.4GHz and my lousy 3-5MB/s.

I just poked in my KK N10 and saw the same exact code. I've never upgraded to Lollipop on this device. Made a backup and changed it to US. Never had an issue before so lets see what happens...
Well been a few weeks now after making the change. I see no discernible difference before / after.
Not that anyone here cares anymore apparently? Lol
