my girlfriend's phone just told her that there is an update available she has the latest software and hboot 1.5. The update is 9.3 mb. Does anyone know what this is? I downloaded it on her 3D, she is not unlocked or rooted. I rooted my 3D via 1.5 S-on HTC method. Is there a way to take it apart and analyze it. Heard rumors of random ota that revert hboot.

She still on 2.08 ? Why not update to 2.17 ? Then take root? The latest ota is 2.17 which updates a bit of stuff and removes the CIQ thingy....
Is there anything possibly in this that will help get s off? It is update. Maybe some clues. Can I upload the file via the XDA app?

I doubt it the guy that said he had a update of the such wasn't true...
His phone was a previously owned device that had S-off already the store sold him one that was returned in that 14day period...
So it was already rooted prior to him buying it.. With S-off lets you do some more playin around... The person that owned it before him had rooted it with the REV method on root... So that was how he been boucing back and forth on the hboot thing...
.... a guy can hope

I would update it to the 2.17 latest radios and everything then root it she should be good to go on everything.... Then you can show her how to flash and everything else

From what I read newer radios offer better reception all the other stuff. I prefer to stay on the latest updates that come out. Really can't break a radio down in difference. Newer generally better .

There is other ways to update.. I prefer to wipe not the SD. Then RELOCK and use the lateset RUU 2.17 CDMA exe then redo the unlock code and flash a recovery then
fastboot boot recovery.img and wipe and flash rom

From what i heard , you dont need to relock or unroot then re-unlock, then re-root. You can just flash stock recovery and take the update, if bootloader gets locked then unlock it again.
I might be wrong but thats what i have heard.....i mean read.

Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Great you can flash roms. You do realize you are using 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 which ever you flashed last. Please tell me you don't think you are using both roms at the same time.
Hahaha yeah I know I'm not using them at the same time, I was on a 2.3.4 rom then I flashed a 2.3.3 rom, I didn't think u could go back and forth ,just one or the other.

Yeah i never knew you could do that cause I took the newest ota and I have hboot 1.50 and unlocked my phone through HTC
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Yeah some great Dev's here, cant wait to try out the 2.3.4 kernel when someone completes one!
No kidding seems like every week something new comes out
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Were you s-off before you took the ota?? You may be able to flash a 2.3.3 rom, but you won't be able to flash the kernel so the rom may not fully work. Most people that try find out wifi won't work along with other problems. The hboot 1.5 won't let you write to certain system partitions and the kernel is one of those.
Yeah I was s-off b4 I took the OTA, then I did the HTC unlock method when it finished it didn't reboot so I took the battery out and went into recovery and it said unlocked in the pink banner and s-off lol seems like I ghetto rooted my phone. Never had any problems flashing anything yet
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
That's why your able to flash older roms, you were already s-off. All others that started out with hboot 1.5 and used HTC's unlocker can't flash 2.3.3 roms and have everything work right because they can't install a 2.3.3 kernel. Since you were already s-off you must still have write capability to those locked partitions.
Well that makes sense thanks cruise for your info
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Have you been able to flash a 2.3.5 ROM. I see that some newer ROMs are being built on that?
Yeah I can flash 2.3.5 roms it will be sweet when they get sound working

It'll un-root you. But have to use the same RUU that goes with your hboot. So it doesn't get affected.
Don't use RUU.exe's. It'll put you s-on... Unless that's what you want.

Why the ruse? If you are trading it in to Best Buy, then why does it matter if you are not rooted. They would probably prefer the phone s-on and stock anyway.

My evo 3d is 3.0 with h-boot 1.5 with S-OFF but wont update to 4.0. Goes to install screen for 2 seconds then reboots back to 3.0. What can or do I need to do to get the 4.0?
Just wait for the rooted version. Check out the cdma development forum (if ur on sprint) it will be up soon.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Jesus people this is rooting 101. If you are rooted, do NOT take an OTA update. Wait until a dev releases a stock rooted rom zip file, shouldn't be more than 24 hours. Flash that like any other rom. Not that hard.
Hey thanks for the info. I tried the ota again and it worked this time. Only thing that sucks so far is all of my apps are gone.

In the past I had an epic 4g and the root process was completely different. But I just got this phone and it was already rooted and is running a custom rom right now. I want to flash one of the jb rims but when I go into hboot it still says locked on the top of the screen. To my understanding doesn't the bootloader need to be unlocked in order to flash anything? (I can also boot into the 4ext recovery)

I'm not an Android expert by an means. Can someone please tell me if the pop-up I'm getting on my HTC Droid DNA telling me to update to: HTC6435LVW_2.06.605.1-2.04.605.2
Is Not something there is a fix for...or it IS something there is a fix for?
My phone is rooted, S-OFF, and running teamwin recovery.
So do I need to watch this stupid Verizon pop-up or can I upgrade somehow? I see threads talking about a bounty for a crack but I'm not sure if that means there is a fix for just upgrading or not?
Thanks.
Do not upgrade. You'll lose root and soff...

If you're rooted and S-OFF then why don't you just flash a new rom with the updated base? I know there's a couple of stock rooted 2.06 roms in the Android Dev section.

They didnt and if they did they probably relocked like a stupid. Once you have s-off you have no restrictions.
Most of them relocated thinking that they could just unlock again and that the exploit wasn't patched.

Even then, if they are s off it really doesn't matter and if they were s on then they could use their old unlock code.bin to re unlock their device.
