Hey Guys
Just joined the android bunch when the wife got me a new Xperia X10 for my b'day/anniversary. Its awesome and i'am loving every bit of it especially the personalization part of it.
However coming from the iPhone I have a few queries and would be great if someone could help me with it. Have searched the forums and haven't really got any useful info of it (mind you i could have terrible searching skill, btw did anyone see my keys??)
I have two mail id's like most people. One is my personal gmail id and the other is my corporate mail id. I have configured them both onto my phone and I'am indeed recieving all mails without a glitch. Unfortunately I don't have an option of sorts to configure my office calendar to sync with the native app. The calendar option does not exist for the second mail option(The option to sync my personal gmail calendar exists and is working fine).
However while using the iphone3g previously I was able to simultaneously use both the calendars (gmail & corporate) and an update on either of the two calendars from my desktop would show on the calendar.
Question1
Is it possible to have a similar system on the android as well. The backend for my corporate mail is provided by gmail and so is the calendar and everything in it. Someone suggested elsewhere that i could share the calendar to my personal mail and i could use it that way. Unfortunately it not enabled for me and the only option for sharing lets my personal account to see if I'm free or engaged at any time. This would be of very limited use to me.
Question 2
Whenever i receive a mail with a calendar invite on the corporate id, the mail appears empty with a small attachment. Using the preview option on the mail app displays text based data that pretty much random stuff overlaid on the meeting name etc(i guess this is the program info or something). Is there anyway if and when i receive an invite i would be able to add them to my calendar or refuse it right-away etc..
These two queries are the biggest of my worries as of now on the otherwise enjoyable experience. I'm terrible sorry for the long post but thought I'd give as much info as possible.
Thanks for your time and help!!
Cheers!!
PS: Some background info, Phone: Xperia X10i, Firmware 2.1-Update1(India), unrooted, baseband 2.1.54. If there is any other app that would help me do the same(Paid or Free), it would be awesome.
Hi there,
I use my phone in a similar way, I have 4 accounts in my gmail app. 3 corporate and 1 personal. If I can remember back to 2.1 (eclair) you can only have 1 gmail account in that app. Then you have to use the mail app for up to 5 more (not sure about moxier mail, I never used it).
Basically what your best doing is rooting the phone to get it up to 2.2 (froyo) that way use have much more control over what sync's from each account. I would recommend tripnraver's froyo. He has a new 1.2.0 coming tonight. You do have to put up with some minor bugs, but the benefits far out weigh the negatives.
A lot also depends on what type of email accounts they are. Either way froyo is way better for your needs.
If you don't wish to dabble with your new present, wait a few months when sony bring out 2.3.4 gingerbread!
I have had a few close shaves, while flashing my phone but approx 10 roms later, I'm pretty sure it's hard to brick it. Worst case restore it back using the sony software.
Hope that helps.

Hey,
I'm looking for a to do app that allows me to organize my tasks in a beautiful, tablet optimized way (like Beautiful Notes) and allows some kind of sync method to bring that stuff to my Galaxy S later. Someone got an idea?
Bye ,Smirny
I don't just want to plug my site but have you searched on Tablified.com or Tablified Market? I know I have a few on there.
Found some:

What I really want is a task/ToDo app that syncs with my google calendar so I can have both my tasks, todo's and calendar items all together in one.
Evernote is popular.
any.DO looks interesting.

Pocket Informant does all that but its pricey...

I love remember the milk but it's a service with a 25 dollar year fee.
The widgets in the pro version are amazing.
The best part about rtm is how simple it is.
For fairly simple task tracking check out any.do. It syncs with Google tasks so that will keep stuff lined up from device to device.

Wunderlist is nice too.

+1 for evernote.
not many people realize that you can create a To-Do list. i have it on my Prime, my G2, and on my windows PC....any changes i make are cloud-synced.
and it has a fairly decent widget.
I am a list and note whore. I have tons of both and have been through most the apps in the market. The best one that has worked for me is Pocket Informant, but Ultimate To-Do list is quite handy also and has widgets you can use. Both can be synced with Toodledo which is an online database that you can sync for free or pay for extra features, which really isn't needed but cheap non the less.
I have spent a lot of time on this and it has all been tablet focused. If this helps, free free to click thanks. ^ ^
+ 1 for wunderlist

I uses Tasks N Todos Pro.
Lets you make multiple Todo lists and synchrosizes with Google. Not sure if it works together with Google calendar.
Any.DO would be perfect for me, except that it doesn't sync automatically - you have to go into settings and click 'sync' every time. The only flaw in otherwise one of my favourite apps for android.
have any one tried yet Platinum Tasks (To Do List)? I have tried Tasks N Todos Pro and I do like it..
possible solution

Dunno if this will work for you, but here's what i did and my google calendar syncs with all of my devices:
1- go to accounts and sync
2- add account
3- select "coporate" (not "google accounts")
4- type in your email and password
5- under domain type: m.google.com
make sure to select all the options you wish to sync.
this worked on my asus transformer prime with android honeycomb.
Mobilise Notes is awesome & Google syncs.
Damnit. Just when I was thinking I was happy with my to-do list.
I'm going to go try them all!!!
(Mobilise didn't come up in the market...)
Edit*again* and then when I search for wunderlist it does. n/m.

You might like "Do It Tomorrow", It's kind of fun.
GTask syncs with Google Todo.
and you can use Agenda Widget to consolidate the calendar and todo into one Widget

I'm surprised no one had already mentioned GTasks by Dato before the previous poster did... I've been using it with my TF & EVO for months, for simple no-frills text only to-do lists that sync with your Google Calendar/Tasks it works very very well. If you need something fancier I'd look into other services like Remember the Milk or Evernote.
I like GTasks because of it's simplicity tho, if I can add photos or full web pages to my to-do list I'm just gonna amass way too much crap I'll never sort thru. I don't sort my to-do list very obsessively nor do I fiddle with due dates a lot either, something like RMTM's probably better for that.
As for widgets, GTasks has a serviceable one but I like Pure Calendar widget a lot better... It's scrollable, combines your calendar and tasks, very customizable, and it works with a ton of calendar/task apps.
Pure Grid Calender's nice too, hell all the Pure widgets rock imo. Config screens are a little cluttered and look somewhat dated, but the widgets themselves are very slick and have tons of skins. I use both the calendar ones, music, and messenger. Been meaning to look at the news one.
Hello,
I have an unbranded German S II. Since updating to Android 4.0.3 (through Samsung Kies), the standard calendar widget doesn't work like it used to anymore.
I synchronize with my Google account where I have multiple different calendars for different purposes (work, freetime, projects, etc.). On my phone I can go into the calendar app's configuration and tick the boxes of those calendars I want to have synchronized and shown. It used to work like that and I could make it so that only my work appointments would be shown on the calendar widget on my homescreen.
Now, after updating to ICS, the calendar widget will show all calendars at all times, rendering it less useful. No amount of fiddling with the properties has corrected this. After asking in two other forums, this is my last hope.
I really hope somebody here knows the problem and might be able to help. Or is this really just me? Thanks in advance!
I don't have a direct answer to your question, but if the stock calendar widget isn't behaving how you'd like it to, there's a Play Store brimming with alternatives. I'm sure at least one will function in the way you're hoping.
Yeah, I know. I don't need any fancy, skinnable, customizable calendar apps that fill the android market. I'd rather have the stock widget that just does what I want it to. Seeing as this worked fine before the update, I hoped there was something I could do. Alas, seems as if that is not the case. Thanks though
Hello, i have exactly the same problem. Did you find any solution ?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
It's good to hear someone finally acknowledging the problem. I was starting to question my sanity as it seems that out of millions of owners of the SII only I have the problem. Finally someone else speaks up, thank you for that
Sadly, I have not found a solution since. I completely changed the way I organize my events in google calendar. It's not as well organized as it was before but it gets the job done. Still, I would prefer if the calendar worked like it did before...
If you don't want to redo your whole google calendar organization, I guess you could indeed try a third party calendar. The play store is full of calendar apps; I was overwhelmed, because I just want a simple and clean calendar, like the stock one.

When you select the widget, you should be prompted to select which calaendar to display. If it doesn't, check out this alternative widget. You can still use your default calendar, but use this widget instead of the stock:
Simple Calendar Widget
The stock Samsung email app is OK but robust it is not. If you want more consider AquaMail Pro. Free trial and a few bucks to own. Very good looking and powerful. Keep all of your email addresses in one spot.
I have no connection to the app other than I own and like it.
K9 mail real good opensource mail client.

i like the Sammy Email but +1 on free and robust
I agree Aquamail is quite nice IMO. Did not take long for me to get the pro version... For couple bucks it is well worth it.... Knowing also how much work is required to access exchange via ews the app is in fact cheap... Only complain is no sync with Outlook contact and calendar AFAIK.
Thanks for the heads up on this app that deserves it.
Cloudmagic is great too

blue mail it's the best.... ????
If I require mail, contact and calendar sync with 3 Exchange accounts what is the best non stock email app for me to try? I have been hating the inaccurate notification style of the stock Samsung email app
Nine is my email app of choice. Plus it shows the exchange calendar in the stock calendar app.

+1 for Nine. I have been looking for a good Exchange Email App and when I found Nine I knew I hit gold! It is by far the best Exchange Email app around... and I have tried many.

If MS Exchange compatibility is your prioirity you cant beat Touchdown. It is not free however. But you can get a free trial to try it out. For me its well worth the price.
Yes, Cloudmagic. I just went through and tried most of them, and Cloudmagic I've been using for about a week. Aquamail did look good, I just didn't have the time to go through and learn all the functionalities of it. I'll probably give it another try once I'm able to spend more time learning it.

Definitely Blue mail is the go-to mail app, it is free Nd it is multiaccount with push notifications and looks great on the GTS
The new Gmail does all that and is free

But Gmail doesn't have push notifications
Is it only the included mailapp (and calendar) from Samsung that works with the tab after papergarden? I assume you know what I'm talking about, no? On videos from YouTube I believe the widgets covering the calendar and mail widgets are yellow and green.
If third party mail/calendar apps doesn't work together with said widgets, isn't it better to stick with the stock apps?
No way.. Blue mail is the one. They will repond quickly also if you send in ab issue. Plus its works constantly for push on mulitple accounts. Stock for some reason goes to sleep and emails come in up to 1 hour late. I thought google would have fixed the isue from note 3. Not every since they stopped supporting exchange mail settings 2 years ago.
who runs blue mail? There no info who they are?
I like mailbox, perfect for me.
type mail
It's fairly new but I love it I think it's better than aquamail pro, I have them both downloaded but I think Type Mail is alot faster. Did I mention completely free.
Don't know how many people realize this, but Outlook.com is the only free cloud service that would let you synchronize your email, calendar, tasks and contacts between MS Office Outlook and Android and iOS without having to install any software on desktop.
This is huge for people working in managed application environments where you can't install any apps on work machines and use Outlook for company emails.
Google requires a paid 3rd party sync software, and Apple requires installation of the free iCloud.
Outlook.com account can be set up in Outlook app without any 3rd party downloads, and at least in Outlook 2013 will sync email, contacts, calendar and tasks (no Notes). You can then get all of this on your Android or iOS device by setting up an EAS account.
Now, the problem.. so far the only Android widget that I could find that would show both the calendar and the tasks from Outlook.com is Samsung's Mini Today. The problem is, it's not available unless you use Touchwiz.
There may be some paid widgets - I didn't want to pay $ upfront only to find out they didn't work. But so far each and every free or freemium widget I tried would not show Outlook.com tasks.
Any suggestions ?

You are speaking from the bottom of my heart. I am in quest for other than Samsung TW calendar & tasks widget for over a year, from the beginning I have an Android device. Until now I have not found a widget that would be able to show calendar & tasks from Microsoft Exchange account that is used in our managed enterprise environment (and I tried them quite a bunch).
It is actually one of the main reasons why I stick to TW ROMs. MS Exchange Calendar & Tasks is a must for my work and personal life and I would like to have everything in one place.
Even worse, the S Planner widgets are not available in alternative launchers - only in TW launcher. And that really is an annoyance.

I would be even willing to pay for something that works but so far I have found nothing.
So, in fact, no suggestion, just crying and complaining :crying: (and hoping that someone would point to something I have overlooked).
