Others have tried it, check forum on omnius homepage, Omnius are big on unlocking Sony Ericsson phones, now they have started this program for Samsung phones and for now its FREE, but it wont be for long, just want to share this info if anyone wants to unlock there phone.
Regards
Tried it about half an hour ago!
I have a Three UK locked phone on 2.3.3 KPN and I ran this program and it was unlocked after 1 restart! If it shows 'No Service', All I did was pull out battery and sim, wait for five minutes and then put another network sim in and powered up. Amazing. Thanks so much!
Really can't put it down in words useful this has been to me. Thanks again!

Excellent, just worked beautifully on the Ace I've bought for my son for Christmas.
Will keep him on 3 network as the tariff is excellent but can connect using my Orange sim while I set the phone up.

You won't find better value for him than Giffgaff. £10 per month for true unlimited data (no fair use policy). If you have good 02 coverage you will be fine. The sim card is free.

Hi guys,
I am a noob here, but i know a little! i have a SGH-I717 and i cannot unlock it, i know i can do it through cellunlocker and sites like that but i wana do it without paying any money!
I've rooted the device thanks to Da_G and installed superuser and busybox, tried the galaxy s unlock app but it doesnt work, it gives an error when trying to save in step 1, so i tried locating the efs folder myself and i did, but i cant find the file nv_data.bin, does that file get created when i insert an at&t sim? i dont have one and i am not in the country now!
please any help with this is appreciated, i am dying to use the device and i cant, my flash counter is at 15 now i think and still i cant reach anything!
thanks
Is all the aggravation really worth it? If I were you, I would just pay the 5-20 bucks, then enjoy the phone the way god intended it....functionally!!

Its so frustrating, and after doing all this and spending that much time i just cant give up now
So i guess no one has done it?
I have also tried to unlock it for free and nothing has worked so far. I guess the galaxy s unlocker app by helroz doesnt work since there is no NV_data.bin in the efs folder. I manually tried looking for it but no luck.
I've also paid cellunlock my $20 two days ago and no code yet. I'm kinda frustrated that can't use this phone.
If anyone knows where I can unlock this phone, even website, let me know please. Cheapest option of course.

Sent from my phonablet AT&T Galaxy Note - please forgive if typos
This is how to unlock via AT&T
Guys if you are with AT&T then don't bother with any of those methods to unlock. It's quite easy actually. Just call AT&T and let them you know that you will be traveling and need to unlock the phone to use foreign sims. They will ask you for the phones IMEI number then provide you with an unlock code. You then power up your device with any foreign sim (any other than AT&T will work), it will ask you for code, you enter it, and done. Your device is now unlocked and free to use with any GSM chip. Have done it with our 4 phones 2 GS2 and 2 GS Notes.
I don't think your allowed to most external links to Ebay, pretty sure it's against the rules.
If you go to Ebay and search the seller name it should come up...
Not sure if it works for at&t, mine is Rogers, and Canadian carriers do not give out lock codes for free, no matter how long you have been with them.

At&t wont provide unlock codes for certain phone like: the Iphone or the Skyrocket. And the Galaxy note is probably on that list (cant unlock)

Hi . I got my S3 and it has sim locked to 3 network . Is there any way that i could unlock it for free ??
+1 getting mine this weekend and it's been confirmed that it will be locked to 3 Ireland and im with Tesco Mobile, can someone please post unlocking codes or method as soon as it becomes available otherwise i wont be able to use my phone.
Perhaps the mods can make this a sticky as well no doubt there are many people looking to get it unlocked.
Galaxy S unlock from the Play store works on SGS1 & SGS2. Not sure if it works on the S3 though.

If your phone is rooted PM me a link to your nv_data.bin and I will take a look, initial analysis of the GT-I9300 nv_data.bin indicates a possible simlock block sign, but I cannot be sure without more files as an example.

hope someone releases an app for unlocking soon

If you buy directly from a network, there's a chance the phone will be locked to them. Sim-free ones are obviously unlocked.

What country is that mate?
I've never been with 3 but some people are saying that their phones are always locked whereas others are saying they are not but it would be useful to have unlocking codes that work, im reluctant to purchase before then as i don't wanna have to spend €20/30 to unlock.

Hello Odia,
I sent you the files you asked. Please let me know if you need anything else. I would be really pleased to unlock my phone
Thanks guys.
Well its as I suspected from the file provided by Zanr Zij, there is a 256 bytes sign after the second simlock block, only I am not sure what its signing at the moment, so I need a before and after unlock by code nv_data.bin file or someone with a locked phone who will allow me to try somethings out over TeamViewer, I will take the required backups, but cannot guarantee the phone will not be corrupted.
Haven't yet purchased the phone yet so afraid cant be of any assistance but im keeping a close eye on this thread as soon as there is a successful unlocking code ill purchase.
I have a galaxy note from USA, but I CANNOT use it in HK, as HK no AT&T.

No you can't. You will have to pay a company like CreekDirt mentioned. You should have picked up the unlocked international version.
You may also want to go talk to ATT about it. Explain that you will be travelling to a region of the world where ATT has no service and that you intend to get a SIM card locally and would like to use your Galaxy Note. ATT can unlock the phone for you, and if you are polite about it sometimes they will do it prior to the 6 month window they generally have for new phones, especially if you are a long time customer.
Att will only unlock it after they lose exclusivity of it which would be when the T-Mobile version comes out.

I don't know if their policy changed since 2007 but back then, I e-mailed their customer support for unlock code for my phone because I told them I am currently out of country in Burma, a country they don't have roaming partner so I would like to use the local SIM in my phone and they e-mail me unlock code within 24 hours with the unlock code.
Yeah they used to do that. Lately they claim they can't provide codes if they are the exclusive carrier. They denied me an unlock code on the Note and Samsung Focus Flash saying they won't provide them until a certain date.

It took about 10 minutes for my code to come
They were willing to do it with me, I was told that Samsung has asked them not to release unlock until August 19th. At that time they will happily provide the unlocks. I've been with AT&T for 10+ years, they have never hesitated to give me an unlock code except for an iPhone. I admit, its the first time they've delayed, but I have no reason to doubt their explanation. Honestly, the CSR (all 3, I tried several times) all seemed surprised that they didn't have access to do it.
So, in short, if you need it now, pay. Otherwise, be patient. Either we'll figure out how to unlock it, or AT&T can do it when they get the codes.
The unlock code will typically require stock Rom ...
My code kept failing.. I called supplier, they insisted I needed a stock Rom.
Reverted to stock and paid for code worked. Phone now remains unlocked regardless of Rom i install.

>> there is some 'minor differance' eg ATT - TMobile .... but then its 'GSM frequency rate' and you can go from one to another (provided you have right SIM card....
keen to know
thanks
Freely admit others may be smarter than me.
But I rooted but did not unlock this phone.
Installed several ROMs none of which spontaneously unlocked the phone from the carrier unlock.
Attempts to install different carrier SIM didn't work until I reverted to stock ROM and executed a carrier unlock with code. Even installing an AT&T ROM, the phone still only worked with Telus SIM. I didn't care if the phone was officially 'unlocked' -- I just needed to be able to use an AT&T SIM in it. Installing an AT&T stock ROM didn't accomplish that, nor did any of the many choices available here in the DEV forum.
Advice I got right here in XDA was such that I had to unlock first... before installing other ROMs. Perhaps, I was misled?
On a Galaxy Infuse 4G, I was able to root the phone and find the unlock code inside a file located on the phone. Then unlock before new ROM install.
Wasn't able to do that successfully on the note.
Sent from my SGH-I717M using xda app-developers app
Oddly enough, I haven't purchased an unlock code, yet my device recognizes my T-Mobile sim. I've only rooted and installed custom roms + radios. Maybe I'm lucky.

When I bought my SII at&t released a batch of factory unlocked phones. I don't think they knew.
HI, I just wanting to throw something out there...I was looking at some different sites about unlocking the galaxy note...and I was also checking the reviews for the sites too(can never be too careful).. and I ended up picking cellunlock.net and going with that one...the unlock was 39.99 but after using the promo code I searched in google (android50) it brought it to 19.99..well while I was waitng on the unlock email I stuck my sim card from tmobile usa in there and come to find out it was already unlocked...well I still got a unlock code in my email about 12 hours later but never tried it cuz there was no reason too...well since then I got a new note ( a white one).. and it was not already unlocked...believe I checked haha...but I checked reviews again and there were several saying that the never got a code..and several saying that the codes they sent were fake...but I really needed the note unlocked and at&T wasn't helping..so I went for it anyway...I got the unlock code in my email about 28 hours later and I tried it and it luckily worked!...now that was about 4 hours out of the time frame that they gave me...but it worked...so I just thought Idf let people know my experience...but try at your own risk!
at&t has been giving out the unlock codes for free.
I dunno if the sale is still on, but I got my code from unlockthatphone.com for about $14.

You weren't kidding. Called and said I wanted to use the phone overseas and gave them the imei number and a minute later she had the unlock code for me. Nice!!
Same for me - I got the unlock code straightaway on a web chat with AT&T. The site says something about a limit on the number of unlocks one can obtain on an account, I think it was something like 5 per year.
I don't see why they would give you a hard time unless you're unlocking a bunch of phones on your account.
Same for me, I used the AT&T International Support web chat and they gave me the code right away. Too bad you need a non-AT&T SIM to actually use it.
