I am new Android developer.
I have a few questions about tools for Android development.
1) What is the best tool for Android development?
2) Can I only use HTML5 to develop Android software?
You can use browser based technology, but if you want to develop apps then you're better looking at Eclipse and Java. Everything you need (Eclipse, Java EE SDK and Android SDKs) is free and easy to find.
There's also the Android developers site, which has a vast amount of helpful info...

Also, if you're going to be learning this from scratch, I would strongly recommend signing up to Stack Overflow. It's a bit like xda in the respect that if you can think of it, someone has probably already asked it. It's a really great site for coding issues...

Good luck, and have fun

Just wondering how futuristic pursuing development opportunity in android market.
I am currently low level software developer, dealing with software that interfaces directly with hardware. But I want to move away from it. Recently I started doing lot of android development using eclipse. I am eventually interested in doing something related as a career. I am wondering if anyone in this forum does android development as solely for passion or as a career.
Any contribution would be helpful.
getting signed up by a MNC would be good
It is all about ideas. If you have the right idea for a "must have" app you can pretty much write your own ticket. It should be universal enough to have global appeal and cover several generations. If I had the knowledge I'd write something that checks for what leaves the phone/tablet when there are no activities, where it goes and if it can be stopped. Not suggesting that people are paranoid, but the growing dependence on these devices means that people will be more and more concerned about their privacy.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Any codec experts want to throw their knowledge in there to get video/sound acceleration working for the ICS android development on the HP Touchpad.
I have been following the different ROMS and developers on here, rootzwiki, and even twitter and haven't seen a hand raised on working on this area yet or have some knowledge.
rootzwiki.com/topic/15509-releasealpha06-cyanogenmod-9-touchpad/
Just thought I would throw this out to the general community to see if anyone knows of someone.
Cheers!

Hello, everybody! Recently I got to use AirDroid. I found it has a pretty nice interface. And I can manage my Android device very easy. However, compared with the other management tool-Moborobo I have used, I found AirDroid does not have the backup and restore feature. This is one point I hope AirDroid will develop. So what you guys think about it?

hello,
i am not a programmer, but i used to do as3. and i felt quite comfortable with it. but flash is dead and still, i am not a rogrammer. so i do not want to learn a lot of new languages. but i dont want my as3-"skills" to be wasted . so i found haxe and it sounded quite promising. similar to as3 and compilable to most common platforms. so..
so you know haxe?
do you use it?
what are the restrictions in comparison to native java development?
is it really as easy as they claim to develop for different platforms?
tyvm!
kws
Questions should be posted in Q&A forums, not Development forums.

Thread moved.
We are using haxe and haxeflixel at the moment. And the latest version is pretty good.
The only problem we have is to export our games to html5.
Building for Android, iOS, Windows, Linux and MAC works great.
To all forum readers and lurkers, welcome to a new and experimental section of the forums! The PC Hardware forums are part of our expansion into a limited discussion of PC hardware for our enthusiasts and developers. So while the normal forum rules apply you may notice that things here will be slightly different and a work in progress.
Here's what you can expect in each of the forums within here:
PC Hardware Portal Article Discussion is where the portal team will be posting a new thread for each article on the category. While Disqus isn't a bad option it's also a very limited one in comparison to our forum membership - and so we'd like to try moving some of that discussion here. It also gives us the ability to give some behind-the-scenes updates and additional content that may not fit the Portal well, such as build logs and photos of projects we're working on for Portal articles.
Forum members are more than welcome to continue the discussion but new threads will only be created by us here. If you want to carry on a discussion of a different topic, we have you covered.
The PC Hardware For Linux Developers section is ideally for continuing the discussion and talking about topics near and dear to our developers' hearts. Whether you're just starting out and want to know how to build your own kernel/ROM, set up a kitchen to theme, or something more advanced... if it's about Linux this is the place to talk about it!
While the name doesn't call it out specifically it's well known that a subset of developers use Mac OS X instead - feel free to post in here too on your topics. To help clarify we ask that the prefix [OSX] be used so readers know this deals with a Mac-specific topic.
Lastly our PC Hardware General is for all other discussions under the sun and related to the topic. We're not looking to replace your go-to sites but rather foster a conversation in addition to that. And while we certainly understand that these discussions can get "heated" we ask that people treat each other with the same civility and respect as you would anywhere else on the XDA forums.
Your moderation team can be found in the upper right hand corner under "Moderators." Please feel free to contact us if there are any questions/concerns. In addition you will likely find me around here quite often - part of my job as PC Hardware Editor is to help foster those discussions. And we'll be watching to see how this develops - if we need to split this up further you may see additional forums being added or moved here to better keep the related discussions together!
Thank you for your continued time and support of XDA!
