Samsung Rolling Out Android Ice Cream Sandwich To Galaxy S II This Month
Mar 05 2012 06:03 PM | mobile_sensei in Articles
South Korea consumer electronics giant Samsung has unveiled that its current flagship Galaxy S II handset, will be receiving an update to Android ‘Ice Cream Sandwich' 4.0, mid-March.
The company made public this news over Facebook, from their Israel SamsungMobile.IL account - reports Android news website Android Authority.
This Google mobile OS site has noted that "March 15 will be the release date for the Samsung Galaxy S2 upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich", where the Israeli version of the Samsung Galaxy S II is based on the international version.
The site goes on states that it's safe to assume that the new version of Android platform will then roll out globally, as a result of the mobile phone variant used in Israel.
Android ‘Ice Cream Sandwich' OS was seen on a number of new mobile phones launched at Mobile World Congress last week, but it is really only widely available on the Samsung made Galaxy Nexus, manufactured for Google.
ICS marries the mobile phone version of the operating system, with aspects only once found in the tablet ‘Honeycomb' 3.0 platform - where this deployment by Samsung could placate those awaiting the Samsung Galaxy S III, which never made an appearance at MWC.

still all referring to the 9100. not the i777. You could probably discuss it with the folks over in the 9100 forum, who will actually be getting that update though.
Not really new news, not a question of if we get it but when. Samsung has said for the last 2 months they will roll it out to our phone "late first quarter" which would be March. Real question is if we will be subject to carrier delays.

Back in late October, a leaked document had given us a look at the update schedule for the Android 4.3 updates for various Samsung devices by major US carriers, including the Galaxy S4. Now, a new document obtained by Android Police has revealed that the Galaxy S4 on carrier US Cellular will begin receiving the update from November 8th, starting from 9 AM in the morning.
The update – build R970TYURMJA – will add support to the Galaxy S4 for the Galaxy Gear, improve performance and display quality, add new camera and TouchWiz features, KNOX functionality, and more. Also accompanying the update will be a newer Kies version, so for those using their computers to upgrade, an update to Kies might be required as well.

This update has nothing to do with the SGH-I337. I know there isn't a forum for the US Cellular variant, but you should title the post of this thread accordingly. If you have a Galaxy S4 on US Cellular, then you model number is SCH-R970. The i337 is an AT&T only variant.
It probably makes more sense for this thread to exist in the Galaxy S4 international forums.
I dont understand what this has to do with the ATT galaxy s4 variant.
Yeah, move it to us cellular please, I got all confused

I put this update off until yesterday. I wish i had continued to put it off as this update is a hunk of garbage. My phone has rebooted over 20x and constantly crashes when playing games, and any other hardware intensive application.
No I am not exaggerating.
I booted into recovery, wiped 3x to hard reset it and still have these issues. I am now looking at a custom ROM from this site to install.
Do not install this update if you can avoid it.
Hi All,
I am hoping someone knows the answer to this. I am in Australia and still waiting on the Note 2 4.4 F/W release whilst most other counties got it months ago.
Does anyone know are Samsung firmwares for different countries all developed from the same place with the same dev team etc or is each region responsible for pushing out the firmwares for the devices in their region with their own dev teams etc?
I ask because my carrier has been advising since July it was coming since August and since then each month they post a new update saying sorry delayed again new ETA..
The thing is, this behavior is not limited to Kit Kat, this device only nor is it only limited to carrier branded firmwares too...
As an example the same thing happened with 4.3 was released elsewhere and months later we got with the initial released scheduled for early December with it being delayed and finally dropping in February. Furthermore other Galaxy flagship models suffer the same fate with the Aussie F/W always being delayed. And now let me mention the fact that my friend has a Galaxy Note 10.1 tab N8010 which is wifi only and unbranded so is only dependent on Samsung making the F/W available directly and it is still waiting for 4.4
I wanted to state that because Samsung are trying to pull the wool over my eyes with their replies to email questioning the delays in Aus telling me it's the carriers fault for the delay and that in fact the carriers have the F/W already and just don't want to release it. I know that is BS because the Australian unbranded non carrier reliant 4.4 has not already been released yet and before Samsung can give the carrier their firmware thy have to develop the unbranded version first and then make a version based off this with the carrier bloatware etc..
Anyway I am curious to know where these F/W are developed because if Australia has to hire their own dev teams and push out the F/W releases for Aus devices then it makes sense why we are so delayed clearly the Aus dev team is crap! But if all the F/W worldwide are developed from the same place then I don't know why AUS F/W are so delayed.
For the record I am already on the Nordic 4.4 months ago because of this constant issue but that's beside the point I would much prefer to have my own carrier version loaded up with the carrier modems etc esp since I want to sell it soon so I want to sell it loaded with the correct stock F/W
Thanks!
Optus testing Nougat for the Galaxy A5 (2016)
Samsung recently confirmed the Nougat update for the Galaxy A5 (2016) along with a bunch of other A series handsets. Australian carrier Optus has now begun testing the said update, with the commercial rollout expected to begin by the end of January. The phone is currently running Android 6.0.1.
Going by this revelation, it’s possible that the rest of the world will also see the update around the same time, although nothing can be confirmed at this point.
The Galaxy A5 received a security update to patch to what was considered a “critical flaw” not too long ago. While the company didn’t publicly announce what the critical flaw was, it was relieving for the customers to know that it was fixed for good.
We are looking forward android nougat for a5 2016

I'm a bit confused. I just received mine yesterday (after 2 weeks eBay shipping debacle) and I went to look for my pie update, but there isn't one available. So I came here and read through a few posts and it seems that some people have upgraded and others haven't. I the SHT-W09 version. I've read where some have recommended using hisuite, but when I tried to, it said I needed "Huawei Mobile Services", which won't install via the link that it provides. Can someone point me in the right redirection? I'm just trying to get this think upgraded to Android Pie.
If you have a US version, you do not have 9.

yeah the manufacturer isn't too keen on releasing pie for US base devices and has nothing to do with the China trade war they've never issued us devices full OS updates from what I am told.

You are very wrong. I've owned various Huawei devices for years. Before the Mate 10 Pro debacle when Trump bullied AT&T and Best Buy into not carrying the M10P Huawei provided full OS updates to it's US customers the same as outside the US for its products.
But after the M10P Huawei abandoned the US market. The US model M10P received no feature or OS updates from Huawei while the international models were updated.
Prior to the M10P we got the same updates as everybody else so you can definitely thank Trump for the fact that the US model isn't receiving OS updates.
Just updated ot 9.1.0.328(C432E3R1P2) - September updates for the 8.4" UK version.
If you have the north american version. you do not get android 9.
If you have any other version you have or will get android 9.
Anyway to hack a Android 9 onto NA versions?
I have CMR-AL19 from ebay.... (Media Pad M5 Pro) - Still Android 8.0.0 - > 4 times called support, 3 times they told me it isn't available for my model and fourth time they told me they manually push an update and if it still isn't available to update I have to bring it to a store.... no store in my near....I'm a bit annoyed.
