Hi...
I recently got myself one of these bad boys:
Model Number: YP-G70CB/SSA
Firmware version: 2.2.2
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number: FROYO.XXKF1
- It does have the mechanical Home Key - purchased in South Africa.
I'd like to upgrade it to GB or higher Kies just tells me my device is not upgradable??!! Why would that be?
Anyway I have read solidly for two days on this forum and I am inclined to attempt the following ROM: International 5.0 (Rest of World) Eryiğit Custom Rom Default Release 3.0
I just don't know enough whether it's compatible or that it would work or brick?
One thing I really would like out of it which it hasn't at the moment, is to have an ad-Hoc hotspot running on it for others to connect to a small web server... is that possible with the ROM above or am I going to have to wait or try something else?
Any advice much appreciated - Shot dot Com...
See above
Sigh...

Hi all,
Long time HTC user taken the jump to the S2 - so far.. WHAT A HANDSET
I have some queries though. My S2 comes with the new NFC options built in and appears to be slightly different to the standard S2 ROM.
This is an Orange UK handset with the following:
Model Number: GT-I9100P
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: I9100PBVKI2
Kernel Version: [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.BVKI3
Can this be "safely" rooted (as much as any root is safe of course!
What ROMS are going to run with it properly? Will I need to use a different ROM than the ones the go on to the "standard" S2's?
I had no issues rooting and modding the living daylights out of the Desire but this version difference in the S2 makes me nervous... that and it's 3 days old LOL
Thanks guys & sorry for the noob-ness,
Moose
Yes it has been root Im not sure the root file is here. If I find the link I'll post for you. I saw it on a Dutch site as they have had this fone for a few months likewise France.
You could also dump the file by install HS-KTOOL from market and ask within the rooting forum if someone can be kind and make it for you.
Hi Nyssa - would it benefit members if I did the dump? If so I'll gladly do that if someone wants to do the "alterations" needed to it after...
Hi,

Background
Back in June/July when I was attending my friend's wedding in the states I bought a GT-i9100 off eBay while I was there (I live in the UK). Came with Gingerbread installed at 2.3.4. I knew there was a 2.3.5 available and possibly even ICS so I tried an OTA update. ~EDIT: I just remembered the other reason I wanted to update was that the screen had a yellow tinge and other some users were saying updating the phone fixed that for them.~ Nothing. Looked around the web, found out you need to do it via KIES and that there was indeed an ICS update for the GS2. Phone wouldn't connect to KIES so I did some more looking around in case there was a known problem but I also came to the realisation that my phone might be from a region where it wasn't released.
It turned out to have originally been bought in Hong Kong (the previous owner left some family photos and company documents on it too). I should have realised sooner when the phone had chinese as a secondary keyboard language. I identified the CSC as ZSKI3 and lo and behold Hong Kong wasn't getting ICS for the GS2.
Did some poking around and got confused by the conflicting or rather inconsistency between guides to change the CSC. Somehow followed followed one guide and put on XWLP7 (I believe this is open Europe. But I think I only flashed the ROM (PDA). I ended up with ICS but there have been minor niggles whilst using it which I think might be caused by something being mismatched between the firmware, kernal and rom.
***
Problem
I believe I'm suffering some problems with my GS2 because I flashed just the PDA to ICS and now there might be some conflicts going on between it and the firmware/kernal.
I would like to correct the CSC, ROM, firmware and kernal to open Europe or some other open CSC which you believe to be better.
I understand that I got myself into this mess and don't expect you to take the time to give detailed instructions.
Current versions
Code:
Model: GT-i9100
SNN: i9100GSMH (What does the suffix mean? GSM and HSPDA?)
Serial number: This is unknown in the settings. Did I do this?
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: I9100XXLPS
Kernal version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913

Build Number: IML74K.XWLP7

1. Download this app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.manniakk.cscselector&hl=en
2. Run it.
3. Change your csc code to your location or the closest one
Note that the process will factory reset your phone. So please backup your data before you proceed.

Ok, i did very much the same thing as you. Ok probably no. I brought mine oversea not ebay. However i live in Australia. But the phone was stock from asia. I wanted try flash and play with different roms. Blah blah.
What you need to do is have a data cable like one you were trying to use with Kies. Now you need to see if you can get into odin mode ( from an off phone position, hold down vol down + home key while turning on the phone.) This feature as far as i know is for all android phones. And is one feature you cant break, flash or change. ( note, if ya cant get to odin mode, you have yourself a brick, screwed or stuffed or wat word deem appropriate? )
If all above is working. Goto http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3 somewhere in the mid of that page is some field you need to put in. Pick your phone model, and the country you are in or want the phone to set in. Down load the file. And follow the odin guide which i am not typing out. You can google it with full pictures And video eye candy.
Good luck.
I'm a noobie so be ez on me. I purchased a used 10.1 SGH-T859 and went to update to ICS and saw that I have a weird baseband and Build number: Baseband version: T859UVKJ2 Build number: HTJ85B.VKJ2_demo T859UVKJ2_demo The one it should have come with is T859UVKJ3. Kies won't upgrade me to ICS and I'm wanting to root it but not sure how to do it, because I can't find anybody with this version. Was this a show room tablet with a demo version installed? I really have tried to research this before coming here to bother people.
Phone specs:
Model: GT-I9100
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: I9100XXLPR
Kernel Version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLP3-CL287862
[email protected]#3
Build Number: IML74K.XWLP3
Operator: O2 (UK)
I have the above model and since upgrading to ICS, the phone has an issue where the battery seems to drain within a couple of hours. I have done a factory reset, run with no additional apps, and even bought a new battery. Nothing has helped. Upon my google travels, I saw a number of users with similar issues who were blaming ICS. So I would like to roll back to Gingerbread.
I found this guide: http://www.galaxys2forums.com/17-sa.../3405-how-roll-back-gingerbread-gt-i9100.html which tells me to download the O2 UK firmware from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
I think I need this one: XWLP3: Download - Firmware info: PDA: XWLP3| Phone: XXLPR CSC: eek:2ULP4
But the link seems to be dead. Is there anywhere else to get the firmware? And am I looking at the right thing in the first place?
Sorry if this is a very basic query, but I have no experience with flashing phone firmware and would really appreciate guidance on this as my phone is almost useless to me right now.
Thank you!

Thank you for that link. I am now downloading the firmware.
"United Kingdom (O2) 2011 November 2.3.5 I9100XWKJ1 I9100O2UKJ1"
Apologies for my ignorance..The tutorial I linked to then linked to that thread which made me think that all the links there were for GB firmwares. I don't know how to read the shorthand for the different Android versions.
Its ok.Just google firmwares next time to see which version it is.
I run rooted kg5 on this thing.
First of all, let me tell you about the phone:
Rooted: Yes
Carrier: C Spire
Model #: SCH-R760
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: S:R760.01 K.FI24
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-SCH-R760.XARFF24-CL1125314 [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XARFI24
Hardware Version: R760.01
I am wanting to upgrade to JellyBean and install CyanogenMod. I am not sure how to or what versions of these two I need to download. Could someone explain and set me on a straight path? Thank you.

Honestly I don't want to upgrade to Jellybean if it's not necessary. I just need to know how to install CyanogenMod and which version I need for my phone. Cheers

First you need to flash a CM kernel(it will be given in the CyanogenMod Roms thread) then through CWM flash CM 10(for 4.1.2) or CM 10.1(for 4.2.2).
Edit :
DELETED links since I didn't notice your model number before , and I can't find any official cm versions for SCH-R760. Try searching harder for ported versions.

And don't bump posts after 8 hrs (after 24 hrs is acceptable). You make a thread or a post & wait patiently for an answer.
And you need to understand that because you have a relatively obscure phone few people who hang around I9100 Q&A have, it's only natural that you're going to wait a lot longer for that help for the most part unless it's something generic/that applies to most Samsung phones.
