Are we stuck in this 2.3.6?
I know that is almost 99% certain that we will never see ICS oficcial update for our beloved ace, but should we expect any other updates? Or this 2.3.6 that most of us have will be the last official update?
I sincerely hope NOT, that would be kind a sad ...
No point in 2.3.7 on the Ace, what else would you upgrade to?
I don'tm mind 2.3.6 but i would like if they did to ace what they did with galaxy w, where they changed lots of thing's but remained in 2.3.6
thing's like
- phone receiver
- lock screen
- Improved touchwiz
And i dint´t mind if they changed systemUI aswell!

Motafoca ROMs are much better than stock Froyo, but it's still nice to have the choice. Hope CM7 bugs will be fixed soon.

Official gingerbread on the GT-I5500 is hard to say, some Networks may release it while others may never see the light of day, my official froyo came 8 months later in UK then other networks but then again my firmware is from crap phone warehouse I mean Car phone Warehouse, because its probably sim free, just a guess.
Here in UK Networks or service providers carriers whatever you call them dont sell sim free phones only locked to network, the good thing is that by the time Gingerbread is out for this handset if it ever is officially, your warranty will be out which mean you can pay £15 and get the unlock code from the network provider.
Even if unlocked or not your official firmware will still be the official network identifier and after a year (when warranty is out and they stop selling these because eventually there wont be anymore to sell) I doubt many networks will continue to support the mobile never mind provide official upgrades.
Most likely a great deal of users will go the non official way.
I dont care which as long as its not riddled with bugs.
Still I doubt that Gingerbread will be released officially for a significant amount of users in all countries and all networks.
Lol in holland we even haven't a official froyo update...
Hello developers!
I have a question about the gingerbread update (2.3.3 & 2.3.4) on galaxy ace.
I'm using froyo 2.2.1 because of 1 thing in the gingerbread... the lock screen. It takes 2 seconds when you press any button to unlock screen to appear that's why i don't like it. And i was wondering is there any fix or anything? I don't want any custom roms or something like that.. I like stock better.
Thank you
I don't think there is a fix for it...
Gingerbread has so many advantages over froyo, so I think you should give it a try....
Actually, the lag in the lock screen is one of the features of gingerbread... Whenever you lock your phone, it goes into deep sleep... Hence It improves the battery life...
Thank you for your answer.
I have already tried it but the lock screen really bugs me :/ I know that the gingerbread is better and the performance is better you can feel it but that really bugs me like when I answer the phone or when i end the call special when i end the call or anything ...
I hope there will be a fix or something that could work this thing out.
I think it is ACE or Galaxy only. My Xperia with 2.3.3 doesn't have that annoying lockscreen delay.
Actually even with that delay, after 1 week with 2.3.4 for Ace, I still think it is better than 2.2.1.
I know that galaxy ace has this problem... but this really bugs me... like i said.
I hope that in the future there will be a fix or anything. I'm hoping for Ice cream sandwich update if it would be possible we'll see
i got Ginger 2.3.4 and works ok =)
Nope my friend who has a desire has that lock screen lag problem aswell

Gingerbread
Hi guys, so what are the "many advantages" of Gingerbread over Froyo?? I'm staying on Froyo because of all the bugs I'm hearing about ie/ screen lock, lagging, SOD, can't app2SD etc... & I haven't heard of any major add-ons. Camera/video is adequate for my needs. My carrier has said wait for 2.3.4 in UK, don't go to 2.3.3! So can somebody convince me to upgrade please? Thanx. Graham. London.
I have the GT-I9100P Galaxy SII from Orange in the UK (Just got it today in fact)
-The one with NFC inbuilt
-It has come with the orange ROM which I personally don't like, pushes a lot of apps on me etc.
-But my model of the S II has NFC Capability while others do not.
I know that I could put any standard ROM on the phone, and would therefore lose NFC, but was wondering if I put an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM on (The insanity one looks quite appealing at the moment) would the NFC work? since this is supported natively by ICS (or so I have been told)
I would post in the insanity forum but I have only just made my account and cannot post there yet (Long time reader, just never needed to post before)
Any advice or help anyone could provide would be amazing
-I have tried searching the forums for any mention, but nothing for specifically ICS and NFC
I would say no, as it's a leaked version I would wait for an official version of ICS before trying this.
ICS
But even if it is a leaked copy of ICS, I thought the fact that it is ICS means that it must run NFC?
That's my confusion, there is no mention of NFC on teh ICS roms, since most of the phones running them dont even have that capacity, so maybe they wouldn't know
-Hence my question. Has anyone tried? (Anyone braver than me anyway )
-From reading some of the other topics I seem to have gleaned the opinion that if i flash my NFC-capable phone with a non-NFC capable ROM, even if i flash back I will have lost the NFC?
-Can anyone comment on this?

Its not ICS its a leaked beta test rom .
You are going to have to wait for Samsung to release ICS to know this stuff .
As to losing NFC possible the Orange forums would have more information .

ICS
Ahh right, I thought this was the full ICS not a beta
-Will wait the month or so for ICS then, but still then get a stock ROM from here rather than wait for Orange to offer the update.
Thanks for your advice
Also it has been reported that NFC will not work with custom roms and rooted phones as there is a security issue.
thanks
Definately a good job I didnt flash then
Ill wait for official release then I guess
Thanks once again to everyone who has helped me on this
Hello all!
Im not sure if anyone else has had this issue, however i will state it anyway and feel free to close this thread if it has been mentioned previously!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 on O2 in the UK and have recently updated it to the official 4.0.3 via KIES.
Everything looks like it has updated fine, and it does say im running 4.0.3 - the only thing that seems to be missing as far as i can see, is the 'live effects' for the camera and video capturing - things like the silly faces, background replacement etc that i have seen on other 4.0.3 devices, such as the galaxy nexus. I know this isn't stock only to the galaxy nexus as i have seen other people with galaxy s2's that have a hacked rom on it that is based on 4.0.3.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks!
You should wait for cm9 to get video camera working then you can have the same gnex rom on your s2(with all camera things you are talking about)
Samsung ics was crap without ics features
Hi there!
Thanks for your response!
I don't really want to use a custom firmware on my phone and void the warrenty! Thank you for your suggestion though!
Hi all, after some advice from fellow S2 owners...
Okay, so I have a UK sim free galaxy S2 which I recently updated to ICS with the OTA update, and it looks great but man it drains the battery!. Anyways Ive always thought about doing my first root and trying another rom, and after this update it has made me think about it more- so I have a few Q's:
1. Obviously warranty springs to mind, I know you can reflash back to stock etc, but what happens if I drop 'my precious' and the screen cracks and I cant use the display to flash back before claiming on insurance?!! is there a way where I can just plug the S2 into USB and control the whole thing from the PC? basically, is there a failsafe plan of some sort??
2. MIUI has always caught my eye, does anyone use the ICS version day in, day out and is it now reliable and fully functional now the official ICS sources are out?
3. How dows MIUI ICS / Cyanogen compare to Stock rooted ICS for speed & battery life?
4. Do many of you use custom kernels? and if so which have proved good for your build?
Thanks in advance - just narrowing down my options and any info & advice will be much appreciated...
Cheers
Vis.
bump... any advice?
