I am a Noob, so bear with me.
I went through many threads regarding XT530. links are
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218506&page=2
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271114
the first thread is said to be root XT530 (2.3.5 based) but the title goes for XT316(2.3.4). So i am a bit worried if thats alright or i got wrongly redirected over there. Moreover, the links for the files weren't working, so i need links for the files needed (like Google GMS pack).
the second thread says it will root the current android version, but i need to ask if that would install Google GMS services automatically or i need to download that pack externally.
PLus i need a few basic questions if anyone bother to answer:
1. I got just 19mb to 25mb as my internal memory constantly. i mean, i dont think i would get more than 35mb of internal memory even if i remove all apps installed. is it normal?
2. would i be able to shift apps to SD card after rooting?
3. can i overclock my phone? and if yes, what is the maximum limit?
No ine bothers to put down a single dmn answer? :\

Hello,
I know for a fact that both uper mentioned links worked fine, but i rooted my XT530 phone using the second one.
1. It is normal 19 to 25 MB of memory if u have installed a few apps, that is becouse you have preinstalled lot of useless junk which you cannot uninstall even if you have rooted your phone. I'm hoping that cianogenmod (or some other custom rom) will soon be available for XT530, so we would be able to uninstall things we don't need.
2. You can shift apps to SD even without rooting your phone, but the trick is that most preinstalled apps cannot be shifted or uninstalled.
3. After rooting I wasn't able to overclock my phone, and I tried every cpu-tuning app available on the matrket. Again we will have to wait for some custom rom.
Hope this helps a bit.
first thanks a lot for replying.
Can you give me a good reason to root my phone if i cant do anything in the casE?

hello guys. i'm from Malaysia. i recently bought HTC Hero. currently have problem with downloading application for hero and malaysia dont have android market yet. is there any way i can download any application besides android market.
i got a few question also. what the purpose of rooting the hero. if im using it in malaysia. do i need to root. will it void my warranty. thanks.
Before you even think about rooting, first read this.
The only other way to get applications/games onto your Hero without the Marketplace is to manually open the apk installation file via using Linda File Manager. You don't need to root your phone for this.
If you made a backup of your Rom using nadroid, your original Rom should be safe and your phone is still under your warranty.
The only reason to root your phone is to be able to have access to hidden files, remove unnecessary programs, have useful ones already pre-installed, speed up the phone, etc.
If you have any other issues/questions regarding what I am talking about, read the link I provided you first. It should answer all your questions.

Sorry, but that is not correct. There are other Market-style applications out there that he can use. e.g. SlideME, which probably came on the phone. If it didn't, you can download it directly from the website onto your phone, and install it from the browser though you need to enable Menu->Settings->Applications->Unknown Sources ticked beforehand.

Sorry, but this isn't correct either! A *very* good reason for rooting is to use "Market Enabler" so that he can install the Market application, and enable it for a different region that supports paid apps. Other good reasons include tethering by wifi, and apps2sd.
Regards,
Dave
ok. thanks guys. does it means if i root my Hero then i can access the Market even i malaysia?
Essentially yes, though you will need to install the Market app and use the Market Enabler application to "spoof" the Market into believing your carrier is in a supported region.
Regards,
Dave
But a "problem" with this would be the phone would "believe" that you are in say "Netherlands" when you are in fact in Malaysia.
You can "solve" this by disabling automatic time / date. Enter it manually.
ok. i read on how to run app from sd card. one of the step need to flash ROM to SD card. is it ok if i use different ROM than my current Hero ROM.
As long as it is a Hero ROM, for the Hero (e.g. MoDaCo 3.0) you should be fine. You do need to be a little careful though, because devs have ported Hero/SenseUI to other phones (e.g. G1/Magic etc).
If you make a Nandroid backup before you flash the new ROM, you can always roll back to your previous ROM.

Dave
Hi all,
Well for everyone who want's to have the Google apps like:
Android market
Youtube
Gmail
etc.
Here is a link to a share where the gapps4archos can be downloaded.
http://code.google.com/p/archos-apps-installer/downloads/list
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
WARNING: You cannot install this appInstaller if you installed gApps4Archos or any other gApps installer. Anytime you switch appInstaller programs, you MUST reset your device back to stock. If you've NEVER installed ANY market/gApps installer, then your good... no need to reset.
NOTE: If you've ONLY used my appInstaller, then you can REMOVE the old files using my app and re-install the apps at the same time, then REBOOT.
1) Download - http://code.google.com/p/archos-apps-installer/downloads/list
2) Copy download to your device via USB (if you didnt download directly using your Archos)
3) Use 'Files' app to locate gAppsInstaller, then execute/install it
4) Choose install packaged apps or choose to install your own packaged 'apps.zip' file located on the internal drive (not sdcard)
4a) There maybe a short delay after you tap an install button (its installing and you'll be notified when its done, about 5-10 seconds)
5) REBOOT!!
6) Follow the Market FIX instructions below
MARKET FIX:
This will get you most missing apps from the market, except some "protect market apps"
Setting-->Manage Applications-->All-->Market (Clear Cache then 'Force Stop' -- DO NOT clear data)
Setting-->Manage Applications-->All-->Google Services Framework (Clear data then 'Force Stop')
REBOOT again
Market Fix video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l-nySibzeA&feature=player_embedded#!
If you do this correctly you will find most missing apps like 'Copilot Live USA' in the Market. However, some apps will not show because they are "protected" Market apps. These include 'NY Times'. Google search "android protected market apps" if your not familar.
NOTE: The latest version of GMAIL and Youtube can be downloaded in the market...
Thanks to our friends from the archosfans.com forum
Thankyou for this, I have seen how much work you have put into it. Tried gAppsInstaller_v3.apk this morning and seems to be working well, no FC's etc so far...
(edit)Oppss ment to say thankyou Kenyu73 for the app and thanks Dreetje for posting, thought you was Kenyu under a different name...

Well i didn't made it, Kenyu73 did make it It makes my device complete, really love the Archos device!
Thanks! I've looked at these instructions a dozen times on ArchosFans and always missed that market was clear cache not clear data and never figured out why it didn't work right for me. With the latest gapps I'm now seeing most everything. Awesome guide!
Edit: For some reason when I use this installer however, TweetDeck will not run properly. It always Force Closes once I've signed into my account and I cannot fix it. This is one of my favorite apps. If someone could figure this out I would appreciate it.
Edit 2: This installer causes a ton of apps not to launch in my experience thus far. TweetDeck as mentioned, Moblox, Angry Birds, they all just FC or hang endlessly. I'd still recommended the other installer with the same steps outlined in this post.
Stupid question but does "reset your device back to stock" mean anything else than a reboot? Like an Android reset or something?

thanks for the advise on market acces update, now finally updated gmail apk
I have the Google Marketplace up and running and for the most part it works wonderfully. My biggest issue are protected applications I use on my HTC EVO aren't showing up and some of these application I really use / enjoy. Some of these are:
1) BatteryView
2) Battery Watch
3) Splash ID!
4) Monster App Pro (I'm using the non-Pro right now)
I've been trying to add the "Market Access" application to the mix to help me with this issue, but thus far can't get z4root to work. Oh, it says it was successful, but none of the programs that need root can get it from the Super User application.
I can live without these protected applications, they are simply nice to have -- except Splash ID!, which IMHO, is necessary to protect my development personal, professional, and development information. I was able to get a work around for Splash ID, for which I'm thankful.

Excuse my ignorance, but how is this at all new? There's been a gapps hack available for every Archos device for quite some time now. It's always been readily available on ArchosFans.com.

It's a different version which allows for more flexibility, especially for updating the two most useful core apps.

It also has less apps in it, saving space for where the apps are installed, especially since Archos only provided around 275~ MB of space for app installation
And not all apps can move to sd card so any space is helpful
All we need now is the Samsung Galaxy Tab email app ported over. If anyone has any idea please share.
Thanks for posting the info for my gAppsInstaller. I've been away from the game for a few days now doing housework "mods" (=
The only issue remaining that I'm aware of with this app is a certain sub-set of apps that FC (AutoZone, OSMonitor and a few others mentioned in this thread. I haven't had time to research, but whatever the gApps4Archos is doing is making these work ok... I'm thinking its some registration of dll files ('so' files perhaps). I do know it copies 4-5 .so files into the froyo/system directory, but i'm not sure right now if I need to do some type of '.so' file registration with them.
If any linux guru's out there know of something I need to do specifically with these (besides copying them to the '/froyo/system' directory, please let me know.

Your question: I searched for an explenation about registering the .so files and found this link: http://users.actcom.co.il/~choo/lupg/tutorials/libraries/unix-c-libraries.html#shared_dlopen
just checking - these instructions are for 2.2 only ?

I dont think he created the original gApps4Archos package, he only de-compiled it, added the updated the apps with the newer 2.2 market then vanished.
I think he dropped of the radar after he did the re-package of that app.

Did you use this one or gApps4Archos?
yes i use that and youtube comes with it but it keeps fc and it wont download from market
Hi. I've only rooted one phone successfully before, the Nexus One and have had no need to root the Galaxy Nexus. I have pre-ordered the Nexus 7 & doubt I'd need to root that either. I like stock Android with no bloatware.
I've purchased an Archos G9 101 Turbo which only has 8gb flash. I didn't want the pricier and way heavier 250gb SSD model. However, 8gb is very little when I want to mainly use it to store video data and digital comics which take up a lot of room. I put in a 32gb micro sd to expand my storage but realistically all that will allow me to do in Android 4.0+ is store pictures, music, etc there which I won't do with this tablet.
What I need is to be able to store app data to it like you could in prior versions of Android. Since the new software works much like iOS in that everything shares the remaining memory that the OS doesn't take up, I can understand why they are starting to not put micro sd slots in. But if they aren't going to, more flash needs to be added.
So ... I understand that there are tools such as Directory Bind that I've seen links on here discussing it for other devices that users want the same thing I want it for --
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1536568
I also recognize that in order to accomplish this, I need root permission. I don't have need for a custom rom as the archos is fairly close to stock but I would like to remove some bloatware and utilize an app like directory bind to re-direct my apps to store their data on the micro sd I installed. Digital comic books take up a lot of room but if I could make the app store the data on the micro sd, this would alleviate my problem.
Having explained the above, can someone please kindly assist me with a thread or tell me directly the following;
1) How to root the gen 9 101.
2) If I root, do I HAVE to have a custom recovery and ROM?
3) Once I root, is Directory Bind the best solution for moving app data to the micro sd and if not, what is?
I'd really appreciate guidance on this as I don't want to brick the Archos 101 G9. It wasn't a terribly expensive & high quality device but since they bumped it to 1gb ram, it runs pretty smooth for what I need ... to bad they didn't include more RAM!! Regardless, I'm willing to root this one & use it as my play device.
Thanks in advance for any help. I did search thru the forums before posting but there was o much information I wasn't sure which avenue to take.

Hi!
...because Archos is not a classical device ....you need to perform few steps !!!
1. You need to install ( enable) SDE menu ! please go here & press Thanks to Shano56 , for enable SDE , how prepar your device for root & ...
2. You can download & install the last Archos firmware 4.0.7 (4.0.3) - Root version ( is the same version with official Archos but with root access !) here !
3. You can not move app on micoSD ...for this you need to perform some aditional steps !
3. After you have installed SDE, you can install Custom Rom !!!
( I will upload soon the Root version ~ 1hour !) :good:
Good luck !

Thanks for the help. I don't know if I'll get it right and definitely don't want to brick the tablet so I hope you don't mind if I might have another question as I go along.
BTW ... I do not want to put my apps on the micro sd, just the app data only. The apps themselves hardly take up any room but if you read alot of books from different apps (Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Play) and read a lot of digital comics via an app like Comixology, the data they store will eat up what little memory is available of the G9 101 with it only having 8gb. That's why it's so important to find a way to do that and the Directory Bind app looks like it might solve that issue. Comixology especially creates a lot of data with the downloaded comics. I just don't want to constantly have to delete comics or books from any of my apps just to make room for more. IF I can get the G9 working where the apps recognize their data stored on the 32gb micro sd card I installed, then I'll have plenty of room for what I need and can download more books and comic books than I could read in a year. The "cloud" is fine for some things but I don't want to trust it with my entire reading library.
I will follow the steps you outlined from the links noted and let you know my progress.
-- Will I need a custom ROM or can I just use the rooted Archos ROM you referred to and if so, will it still get OTA updates which Archos is frankly way better with than the likes of Motorola??
-- Have you personally had any success with the DirectoryBind app that forces an app to relocate data to the microsd? I see mixed results from several threads and from a web article. Here's a few:
http://www.jayceooi.com/2012/06/25/how-to-move-applications-games-data-to-external-sd-card/

One other quick question: what are the advantages of using a custom ROM for the Archos G9 101?
Hi, I was reading through all the forums about the insufficient storage issue when downloading something, now here is my question, I want to download fifa 14 (1.3gb) and the l9 storage space is 1.80gb, that means I couldnt download this app even if my phone was completely stock? I dont want to root the phone, is there any solution to this?
Maybe this is what you're looking for. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2496459
I never used it, but I think if you had the apk in the linked downloads folder, you could install it.
Hello everyone.
I am very new to all of this so I figured I ask first before I accidentally do some stupid things to my phone.
I was thinking of rooting the phone since a while because of the constant storage issues. It was advertised as a 4gb model but since it is my first smartphone of the newer generations I haven't thought of it having only a couple of megabytes storage left after all the system files and bloatware. Now I am regretting not buying an 8gb dual model.
At first it was somewhat manageable, but now after the 6.0.1 update I can barely somehow hold my everyday social media apps updated, let alone be able to have any utility apps or games installed, despite having a 16gb sd card. Since the phone requires some files to be installed on the device itself it makes it rather unusable. I have now come to a point where I cannot install a new very needed app because of storage insufficiency so I came to search for help on how to remove all these useless preinstalled apps.
I searched a bit trough the forum but all these apps and roms... are confusing me. As I don't which of those I would need just to get rid of the bloatware. I don't really need any other changes to my phone. Just something that makes me able to remove the bloatware and has the least amount of risk bricking my phone.
What would I need to do to be able to remove the unwanted apps? Just the root? Some app after that? Or a new rom?
And if you could point me in a direction of a detailed or low risk guide I'd be grateful.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
emaciop
You have several solutions but of course, root is the best way to be able to to the more.
A lot of solutions need your phone to be rooted.
But it is not so simple to do, look at the different tuto on this forum.
