Green tint, blue tint, lines....etc..
My first device had problems making calls.
Second device had a white burn in mark.
Third device has a faint white horizontal line near the bottom...
Really?
I've also seen a few people complaining that they had circles burned in to the screen
Now is this a problem with OLED screens in general, or is this just a poorly made device? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the phone, but this is getting ridiculous.
I've had 2 devices in the past 3 days (Best Buy wouldn't match Sam's Club tax pricing) and I haven't had an issue with the screen on either. There's the slight bluish tint when you look at an angle but nothing I'd consider an issue myself.
My screen is great no lines or nothing. I think the amoled screens just intensify the colors so much people think the colors are tinted...and maybe they are...still looks amazing

First 2 devices were purchased from an AT&T store in Wayne,NJ. Third device was purchased from an AT&T store in West Caldwell, NJ
First device from AT&T store, no issues.
I believe I read in the normal Galaxy SII thread that theres a screen calibration app that fixes it. I'll see if I can't find it.
Here are a couple pics showing my issue. Don't know if I should return it or not...
Not the best pics, but you should be able to see the darker center. The light part that looks like a white line goes upwards on the right side as well.
I upgraded today at the local ATT store... first one had a very noticeable coloration problem in the lower right hand corner, almost in the shape of a triangle... Went back and exchanged it... Number 2 looked fine when I powered it on at the store, but now I am noticing the same lightness. I created a simple gray jpg and emailed it to myself (so I can open it using gmail and see it) and it was really bad on number 1... Number 2 barely noticeable.
I will give it a couple days, perhaps the screen will work this problem out itself... otherwise I will be going back to the ATT store for another exchange.

It's been a couple days, so I think I'm going to return mine. I might just hold out for the next powerful phone. I'm having trouble with data and receiving texts on this device anyways. Oh well
SGS2 from an AT&T store and it's amazing. No problems at all.
For some reason the only time I get a green tint is with auto brightness on. When its off there's no tint regardless of the brightness level
I actually returned my first SII to Best Buy. Had a big white triangle in the bottom left corner. Obvious when the notification shade is down. Best viewed on gray colors. Got a 2nd, had slight circles burned into the top. But they were very faint and I gave it a few days. Completely gone.

No clue. The triangle didn't go away on the first phone. The insignificant burn in on the second one (dim dim outlines of circles at the top, probably from a testing app Samsung uses) went away after a few days. I guess the screen adjusted.
Nothing but absolutely spectacular performance from my Sunday AM Best Buy purchase.
Bound to be a percent or two failed units.
Too busy finding and loading apps....
Only a single force close so far, probably me being impatient.
God I love this phone.
My phone seems to go dim from time to time.

I just unboxed my ltEVO and it has a predominant yellow tint for white. I read about this with the one-x. Mine seems heavy. But I'm coming from a super amoled+ display that has a blue tint on white. Anyone else having this issue?
I read about a possible patch for the one-x, do you guys think this can be corrected via software?

Send it back and get a gs3 in about 5 months

From my experience with screen starting with the Treos to HTC to Asus that this is hardware and not software. Sometimes screen manufacturer will use a different top panel if supply is short.
However there is an app called "Screen Adjuster" that will allow you to change RGB as well as contrast. I used this temporarily on my Asus Prime (home screen transition) til I finally got a Prime with a whiter less yellower screen. It may slow your phone down however as it slowed my Prime just a tad. The contrast is what'll slow it down by a lot so try not to use it.
I forget though but you may need to be rooted to use it.

Youll get used to it till you see another screen thats whiter or more blue.
My screen is much more yellow than my brothers, I used ADB to get the panel manufacturer and they both say sony...so strange. I used the method that the ATT One X guys are using over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25025862&postcount=29
Both ours say Sony, what do you get?

Yes, its normal if your coming from a different phone like the s2.
Its probably sony made screen which is better! Most people prefer the yellowish tint than blue anyways!
I know this thread is old, but I figured it'd be better to bring it back up than to create a new thread about the same thing. I got my EVO one week ago and have noticed that I have this yellow tint on my display as well. From reading through other forums for various phones (iPhone, One X, etc.), many people say that this is due to an adhesive that hasn't fully cured and should go away with time. On my phone, the tint is the most pronounced towards the bottom of the phone. I'm not sure if it really will go away with time or not, and my 14 days will be up soon.
My main question is that for others who have noticed this yellow tint on their phones, has it really gone away over time? Or is it still there?
The strange thing I have noticed is that it is not my ENTIRE screen that seems to be warmer/yellow-tinted. The very very edges of the LCD on all four sides appear to be free of this yellow tint. For example, when I open the Settings menu, I can make out a slight warm/yellowish rectangle covering all of the LCD except for the very edges which appear to be pure white. I'm not sure what to do with my phone as far as whether I should keep it or try to get it replaced in hopes of getting one without this yellow tint.

Mine has had the yellow tint on the bottom of the screen since launch. It has not gone away.
I forgot to mention that even when using Screen Adjuster and boosting the blues or even the reds or greens just to experiment, the yellow is still visible. This leads me to believe that it is not an issue with the LCD but rather with something that is on top of the LCD.
Yah... It's not going to go away. But if you're like me, you will eventually stop noticing it. Had mine for two months and the tint at the bottom right is still there but I honestly had forgotten about it till I saw this post.

I received my new htc evo v 4g few days back, and unfortunately, I also have yellow tainted screen. I also have galaxy s2 and this is huge change for me.
Galaxy s2 is on white and bluish side. and this htc evo v is predominantly yellow. If i open google on both the background, supposed to be white, is strongly yellowish in htc. Also, if i use the app screen adjuster, i am able to fix it !
Now am at the fix shall I continue with it or go for a change. The problem is that replacement is huge hassle with virgin mobile. PLUS you have to pay shipping by urself as well.
What you guys did? getting used to yellow or replacement?

So I'm having this slight yellow tint on my S3. It's not super visible but I do notice it. I also compared it to a show model and mine definitely had a tint while the one in the shop was just pure white. Should I return it or just leave it as it is?
If anything the tint should be blue due to the pentile display.
it could be down to your screen mode which you can change under settings > display > screen mode
Screen mode doesn't change the tint.

Hmm, I would suggest getting some other people you know to look at it and confirm it has a tint without trying to sound harsh it could just be your eyes. If not take it back to the store its still going to be covered by the stores warranty and of course manufacture warranty.
are we talking about the casing or the screen?

I actually compared it to the store model. It definitely has a tint. But a guy at the service center said the tint might go away. There are more cases where the adhesive had to dry or something, so the screen would have a yellow tint the first two weeks or so. If it doesn't go away I will send it to samsung in a couple of weeks.

If you're still within the 14-day return period I wouldn't chance it and just get a new handset now. That would be the safer option.
That sounds like a line, the guy at the store probably doesn't want to do anything for you. If I paid a lot of money for a device and or 3 year term you better bet I'm getting the best phone possible without defects. My 2 cents...
There are at least 2 two other threads about this here and there is also two on swedroids forum (use chrome for translation).
I have the same problem and I have sent it back to the retailer as a DOA. I hope I get a new one!
Looks like it's not meant to do it I goggled for like half an hour and there is nothing coming up for yellow tint due to adhesive.
I'll be mad as hell when I get my S3 and it had the same thing. It's bad enough looking at it on my S2.
The yellow or pink tint is something pretty common almost all S3 I've seen (about 6 sets). The severity and location of the tint varies from set to set. On my current set, the screen is yellow at the top 25% and pinkish on the rest of the screen. My previous set was yellow on 50% of the screen right in the centre.
This problem is most obvious on light colored backgrounds (eg. white, grey) when we surf the web. An easy way to see is to download LCD-Test app from play store.
Very very disappointing widespread defect on an otherwise superb phone.
Well I they said that they wouldn't wan't to take it back as I had some other problems with other S3's and they already replaced those. But anyway.. Is there a chance the yellow tint will go away in the next week or so? As I heard it is often caused by some kind of adhesive.

I would honestly leave it. You might end up getting a worse phone with dead pixels or worse.
All phone screens are slightly different. There will be a rom/kernel out eventually that will let you tweak your color settings.
My i9000 used to have a slight yellow tint. Now I've set up voodoo color it's a pure white. I'm sure your phone is perfectly capable of displaying a pure white too.

Well I actually don't plan on rooting it.
I'm more than 1 week in and the tint hasn't changed a bit. I made the screen a bit hot (not too hot) so that if the tint would be caused by adhesive it would dry. As there is no change in more than a week I'm not really expecting the tint to change. If the issue persists more than 2 weeks I will bring it back and keep everyone updated on how the service is, so that people will know whether they can send their phones back in case they have a tint.

Someone please post a screenshot of the yellow tint, I am going to sue Samsung on this now.
on my new galaxy s3 i have noticed in dark backround in dark room i have them bloody annoying black spots. i have recearched it but it only says its a common problem for amoled screens. i have about 8 of these spots one which is huge. only noticable in dark room using black screen. do i get replacement or will that just be a waste of my time?
Let me recap
- you're in a very dark room
- you're watching a black screen
There's an easy hardware-fix to this problem; shortly press the button on the right side of the screen and the blotches will disappear, while the rest of the image (read: black screen) remains intact. [/IRONY]
It's, as you found out, a common sight on AMOLED however it's not an issue. These pixels are simply darker than the others.
Galaxy S3 black ink spots
ok thank you makes sense. but buying a $1000 phone you would not expect something like this. so is this a software or hardware problem sorry for askng??
return it get a new one.
i was planning to but how am i going to prove to the retailer of my problem? first of all it will need to be a very dark room which is unlikely in a shopping mall unless he throws a blanket over his head lol. second of all some people see these things more easily than others, the staff member might not be able even in the right conditions to spot any marks....
Kick his ass and make him go check it in the toilet roms. Tell him not to forget to turn the lights off lol
i wish i could but then he will charge me for rape lol. seriously though im starting to think that if i get a new one it mght even be worse
sell it get the htc one x

I too found 2 dots on my phone. I returned it immediately, got a new one after a week, found 3 dots now . I dont know what to do now.
Even if you return it a million times you'll still get some...
According to supercurio it's a software issue (trigger voltage slightly too low or something like that) and will be fixed with his upcoming 'Display Expert' app
I had some on my S2 and now on my nexus.. To prove it you can download an app called LCD Text (AMOLED) from the market (it has the logo of an RGB circle pattern) and then set it to full brightness and black screen, you will notice them very quickly.

Anybody here have black spots in their screen?
Its only noticeable when the room is dark and the screen is dark.
For example, when I'm about to go to bed all lights off and I read stuff here on xda using the dark theme. I notice some black spots in the screen. They're everywhere in mine and its annoying.
Can you guys try it and let me know if I'm not the only one.
To see it better try using screen filter app from the market and lower the brightness.

You should of seen all the fuss people made about the S2 and even donated a phone to a well known dev to try and somehow fix it only to never get anything back from that dev and everybody's phone still remained the same. Lol.
Some might have it more than others, but at the end we have no choice but to deal with it unless you want to get a different phone.

I finally got around to testing mine last night, too, and I got lucky as I couldn't detect any ink blotches whatsoever. Even when they are there, they're not noticeable in regular conditions.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Download a completely black image from google images or wherever.
2) Open it fullscreen, turn your phone off, turn the lights off.
3) Wait 10 minutes for your eyes to adjust to pitch black darkness, then turn your phone back on with the black image displayed
4) Check the screen for non-uniformity
I have the problem as well. It does suck, but for me it's not really worth having to go through the exchange steps to get a different one.
I always wondered about them but figured it was just normal I have a big one dead center of the screen. Kinda like a target. Lets hope not for that reason though
guess, I got lucky. My first S3 had 3 spots. The new one is clean!
I'm definitely disappointed with the blacklevels on this display - at least when viewed in extremely dark environments.
I have 1 quite significant black line, and a few dots too. Bleh... wonder what's changed since the S1 screens - black levels were WAY better, and none of this ink marking.
I noticed the black dots, too, but I was able to make them go away with some carefully applied Liquid Paper. No more black dots. Does anyone else have a problem with white dots?
