LG Connect (MS840) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I can't find any threads on here related to the newly released LG Connect from MetroPCS so I'm posting in the general furum. If there is a more appropriate place to ask this, please point me in that direction.
I picked up my LG Connect this past Saturday and last night I decided to root it and try and uninstall some of the bloatware. I got the rooting info from here:
URL deleted because I'm not allowed to post it due to my lack of seniority.
I'm not very familiar with that forum which is why I'm coming here for help. Anyway, I rooted the phone and installed Titanium Backup and Superuser which all worked just fine. I started removing bloatware by first backing up each app then un-installing it. Somewhere along the way I got a little touch happy and managed to uninstall my contacts app and apparently the dialer program as well which has left me with a very limited use phone. I tried to recover the contacts app (and a couple of others) but Titanium Backup just sits there saying it is restoring but never finishes. This is only my second Android phone (the first was an LG Optimus which I succesfully installed about a half dozen different ROM builds until I found one I liked) and my first time using Titanium Backup. I'm hopefull that there is a generous soul on here willing to lead me in a direction that can solve my issue of restoring these apps. I have temporarily installed a third party dialer which I'm not happy with at the moment so I can at least make phone calls but ultimately I would like to be able to at least get it back to factory defaults or install a different ROM all together.
Thank you in advance for reading this and responding.

Seriously
No one can at least point me in a direction.

You can see if there's a stock image for the phone that you can flash. I'm not sure of any other options, but thought I'd give you that one.

There is something called the "lgmobile updater" I used it after I had a boot loop. though I do have the contact app that you can probably push to your phone if you need it. Oh yea google for it and you'll find it.

I don't remember how anymore, but for my previous phone, I was able access the .apk files for my back ups with Titanium in the backup folder. Maybe you could try extracting those apps you need from your backups via your PC, and then just adb push or root browse to transfer the apk files back to your system?
Hope that helps.

[Q] Verizon Backup Assistant

Hi all. Noob here. First I want to thank all of you that are writing these amazing roms, apps and roots. Top notch.
I am running BAMF Remix 1.5 and love it! I have not had any issues with it at all. My question is this. I need to load Verizon Backup Assistant in order to recover all of my contacts that I backed up from my BB Storm. With this ROM the verizon backup assistant is no longer available. I would prefer to not have to go back to stock in order to recover these contacts, so is there any way to get the backup assistant without having to grenade BAMF, go to stock, recover contacts, then go back to BAMF?
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide me.

Verizon Backup
i had the saem thing for a little bit... all you have to doo is go back to the page that you down loaded the rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009876 and then scroll to the bottom of the first link and you will see all the zip files you need to install. along with the verizon backup and some other good ones. you will need to eather use Rom manager and install from your sd card or use appinstaller and still install from your sd card.... hope this helps

I saw all of those but assumed (shame on me) that since I was using the "REMIX" that it did not apply. So I guess it is safe to assume that it can be used on the "Remix" version.
I am surprised that a Verizon store transferred the contacts to a rooted phone?
At any rate, thank you both for your prompt responses.
Downloaded and installed backup_asst via recovery manager from the Das BAMF 1.5 thread here
When I look for it in apps it is not listed. It does say that it was successfully installed via recovery manager.
Any help on this one?
Never mind, figured it out... did not show up in apps, so I went into the "Setup" app and lo and behold there it was. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
You might want to consider backing up your contacts to your Google account since most roms do not support backup assistant because it is... Crap. Then when you flash new roms and sign in your contacts will already be there and you don't have to worry about the extra crapware.
True. I just needed the backup assistant long enough to get my contacts back on my phone. Now that they are there, I have already backed up to google and uninstalled backup assistant.

Not enough posts under my belt... but thanks!
Another way to do it (This is the way I did it):
Download Google Sync for Blackberry to back up your contacts to your Google Account, and when you sync your TBolt, all of your Google contacts should be there. That's the way I got my contacts from my Curve to my Moto Droid...
To aid customer's who were converting from Features Phones (using Backup Assistant) to Android phones, VZW used to have a walk through when BA wasn't available on Android Phones.. It showed how to use VZW's backup assistant web site on your PC, export contacts to .CSV, and import the .CSV into your gmail account.
While that walk through has been changed with BA now being available for most/all android phones, the BA web site still allows you to export to CSV, and Gmail still allows you to import it.

Samsung Gravity Smart SGH-T589

hello
i just bought this phone a couple hours ago
tell me did i mess up? i can't find any roms, kernels, or recoveries for this phone.
i've spent the last couple hours searching for any info and haven't found even a little.
i have it rooted with superoneclick, i can't adb push any files though, like the UOT kitchen files.
any help would be greatly appreciated
This phone!
Its not bad a phone but its just sluggish and yeah i have been trying to find ROMS and BUILDS for this phone. Someone make something please:
well i found a forum for this phone model, not much info available yet, except confirmed rooting...
http://androidforums.com/samsung-gravity-smart/
Awe man well at least im hoping there is someone who has this device and is willing to make a rom!
Not a bad phone but it needs to be cleaned up badly.
Over clocking it does help it a lot.
I have just rooted my gravity smart, but still can't uninstall telenav and others...did I do something wrong? I watched the video, and followed the steps, it was VERY easy, install, click root, pretty much. Still need to get rid of all the junk apps...
Hi Guys i just wanted to be part of this thread for updates. My lil sister has one of these and I wanted to get more info. Ill be on the look out as well and keep you guys posted.
emailed koush asking to port CWM recovery for us

does titanium backup ask for superuser permissions?
careful what u uninstall
i removed a few apps that i shouldnt have
I would love some development on this phone.. hopefully someone cares enough. I've rooted with Super One Click, but now trying to overclock.. any thoughts? Can't use SetCPU or others..

until we get a different kernel developed, we can't overclock the cpu.
the stock kernel doesn't have support for overclocking.
at least from what i'm understanding anyway.
we can raise the floor but not the roof.
yes the superuser and other box thing got installed, and I saw the super user, but when I run it there is no apps in it...do you use the other one to uninstall things?
Yes BusyBox both got installed.

from what i'm interpreting...
superuser is the administrator or babysitter
busybox is the interpreter or the middle man
to unistall programs, such as system apps, which i wouldnt do until we have a ROM or RECOVERY available, i use titanium backup.
note that when u back up a system app, it only backs up the information file, not the app itself...
so if u uninstall it and want it back, youre screwed basically.. probably not completely, but pretty much. i learned this the hard way.
now, if you backup a user app, it saves the app itself.. unlike system apps.
just use titanium backup and "FREEZE" the system apps you don't want, for now.
please don't uninstall them.
infact, if anyone could get me a copy of the 3d gallery and music app that comes with this phone, i'd be much appreciated.
i hope this helps you.
i've asked around for some help porting a recovery, no replies yet
Recovery
Any responses yet? :l
Im actually happy you are doing something about this
Much oblige
Freeze First..
I used Titanium backup pro to freeze unwanted files first and let that be for a day or so after a couple of reboots. Then I uninstalled what was not needed. Baby steps here is my best recommendation since the first time I did this I bricked my phone. I also had an email into Kousch but to no avail.

unrooting?
I'm kind of a noob at this but can I unroot this device so I won't void the warranty?
Also. Anyone have all the apks of all the apps this phone came with?
I would greatly appreciate it!
i wish i had dumped the system folder before i started uninstalling apps myself...
maybe someone who hasnt uninstalled anything yet would post a link to a dump of the /system/app/ folder with the apks for us...
if someone was willing to do this for us, i'd recommend a factory reset prior to dumping the files
Hey guys! I got this phone as a warranty replacement for my Cliq (WORST PHONE EVER). I was excited at first cause it worked much faster and came w/ 2.2. But now it seems like this is the develpment communities step child! Where are all the devs???? Anyway, I'm a totall beginner when it comes to Android development. I have not yet rooted, and would be happy to provide you guys with anything if it means bringing some life to the development of this phone. Let me know what I can do!
P.s. I would be happy to provide a system dump, just need instruction on how to do so.
hey comoc85
welcome to the stepchild thread, lol
easy to root this phone with superoneclick
here is a link to the Samsung Kies Program that has the usb drivers bundled for our phone for rooting, etc.
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=US&CttFileID=4132035&CDCt[/url] tType=SW&ModelType=C&ModelName=SGH-T589HBBTMB&VPath=SW/201106/20110625042859732/TMO_T589_Kies_20.exe
here is a link for a youtube video for rooting our phone as well
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMg5LfPW5m4&feature=player_embedded
are you familiar with using adb commands?
if so, easy to grab all the system apps for us or yourself for later
just by entering "adb pull /system/app/" and it will dump your system apps
probably zip them for uploading, be sure to factory reset prior to dumping so that your information isnt included.
remember, don't unistall any system apps once rooted till we get a developer to make a rom for us. some people have bricked this phone doing that. also note this is a "touchwiz" phone and do not remove and apps named "TW....." or it will cause errors..
titanium backup does not backup system apps, i found out after i unistalled them... it acts like it does but only backs up the data, not the app itself...
it would be wise, even for yourself, to dump your /system/app/ folder to your computer incase you need to replace a app you borked somehow... our firmware isnt available on samusngs website yet, or samfirmware.com
i wish i had known to dump my /system/app/ folder prior to uninstalling a few things... but my phone still works... anyway, found some build.prop edits that work on our phone for a lil tweaking..
hopefully someone will pick up development on this phone..
i dont understand how to cook a rom or i'd attempt it, and without a recovery to make a backup, i surely don't want to attempt it..
have a great day
oh to dump your system/apps/ folder you have to be rooted and have sdk + java installed on your computer..
if you're into changing roms etc, you'll need to learn this stuff anyway.
here's a link to a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1SOSXwkc_8
here's a couple more useful links: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502010
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-to-install-it-android/
ive done factory reset several times while being rooted and not lost root or had any problems... this is due to having the stock recovery...
dont ever do a factory reset while using a custom recovery... brick brick brick..
like i said though, factory reset while under stock recovery while rooted is fine.
oh i had problems with the newest superoneclick version and tried version 1.9.5 without any hangups or problems.. just fyi

sounds good so far, now if your unlocked on cm7 it does that even on my phone
but if your stock you must have pooched it, nothing serious but you will need a computer and RSDlight because honestly, you did everything correct and its still hatin on you follow this link and you should be A-OK and reroot it again

Thanks for the help! I did try that and I kept getting a error with it. But I just got a new computer and I will try it again and see if it works. If it doesn't do you have any other suggestions?

best thing if that fails is to download the STOCK firmware and try even flashing that, if you come across the error code make sure you post it up in here so we can narrow it down
Just incase the steps above don't work, how would I flash with the stock sbf and restore it from Titanium Backup? I'm sorry I kind of a newbie to the rooting on android all together. Trying to get my experience now with some different forums

you would need to use RSDlight which can be found on the threads here or the one i posted above, i would help find the stock sbf but im at work and little on time now to find it. more then likely could be found via google.
everything you need to do can be found in ACS qbkings thread search the development thread and you will find it he does have youtube videos up as well that can help you step through step on reflashing the sbf to rooting unlocking and installing on your phone make sure you give him a thumbs up
Does anyone have a working link for the Motorola Photon 4G stock SBF file? All of the ones I have googled and tried to find were not available links. Anyone?????
Ok so I found out why I was getting that random error message before when I tried to go through the process of getting that stock ROM on the MOPHO to get rid of those errors. It was because I still had my SD and SIM card in still. So after taking them out and going through all the processes I got it working now. Thanks for all of your help!
The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
I would get this same error as well as other system apps crashing on both my captive (Samsung Galaxy S) and Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket. The cause was that I restored system apps from older versions of android and they were conflicting with the newer build. When you do the batch restore be sure to deselect system apps such as phone 1.0. Most of these are marked in red so they are easy to route out. Also you can sort by install date to push most of them to the bottom of the list. I did not install phone however I am getting the error now on my new SG2 Skyrocket. Need to test it some more but do not have time right now. It may be CONTACTS/CALLS data, or maybe SMS/MMS/APN Dial Storage data that is the culprit. or maybe i missed contacts 1.0 or phone 1.0 when i did the restore. Anyway I will go back and do it again and let you know my finds.
BTW I am restoring my data to my AT&T SGII Skyrocket which was created on the Captivate running 2.3.3 Cognition 5.2. The SG2II is stock, rooted 2.3.5.
Note, using the Migrate System Data option in TB's preferences may resolve this too as restoring with TB across newer versions of Android have not been this problematic in the past and I forgot to check that option. Haste makes waste.
FIX
OK I got tired of my phone messing up so I took the time out to fix it.
My suspicions were correct, in my case the culprit was:
[CONTACTS/CALLS...cts Storage 2.3.5
You can either choose to not restore the offending data or if you have already done so and are experiencing the:
The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
error you can delete the data for the offending item(s) via TB.
To remove the data just locate in the backup/restore page the item(s) in question in TB and tap on them. choose wipe data. Reboot and it should be fixed.
A heavy handed way to avoid this or if you are not sure what is the offending data you can simply use the restore missing apps + data batch option in TB. This will ensure no system apps are replaced as this is the cause of the problem in the first place (replacing an app or its data with and outdated version).
If you go this route and still need the missing data imported, use google's cloud (account sync) to retrieve your contact, calender, and other data. As for text messages, you can carry these over with a free app on the market Backup SMS.
your findings are awesome! I just bumped into this "com.android.phone" FC problem with my newly flashed Samsung Galaxy S2.
Thanks a lot

If anyone Owns the dopo td-1010 and still has all stock system apps there is a very easy way that you could really help me out! all you would have to do is install titanium backup and make a back up of every single app in the list (besides things you have installed) and then upload the backups somewhere for me . you can get titanium back up here: http://www22.zippyshare.com/v/86267062/file.html . you have to have the device rooted in order to use it. you can root the dopo td-1010 with this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidroot/ ( works perfectly on this device, i have done it myself) PLEASE if there is anyone out there that can help me with this PLEASE get back to me as soon as possible.
You scrath my back, and I'll scratch yours
I have the TD-1010, I can and am will to help you out here, but I am running into a problem you seem to have already figured out.
I was googling the Internets for drivers to TD-1010 for Windows, for the same program/script/batch file you were recommending for rooting the TD-1010. I need to get said drivers before I am able to root the TD-1010 and backup redistribute said OS to you my good sir. At current the script can't find the device without the drivers. Hopefully I'll hear from you soon so I can do you a favor in return.
PS do you have the problem with it randomly freezing, or is that just me...?

I have never used titanium backup before, i thought that it would work, but it does not appear to actually back the applications up, just the settings and configurations for them or something. unfortunately, That will not help me fix this. it looks like the only way to do it is to use this app: http://www15.zippyshare.com/v/78017991/file.html . it is called "root uninstaller pro". i didnt want to ask someone to use this if i didnt have to because it is how i messed mine up, but if you make sure not to delete anything while your in there and just back everything up it will not harm your device at all. im a dumbass and started removing stuff i didnt really know what it was and then i lost my back up so i could not reinstall. thank you again for all the time you have taken on this already. would you be willing to use the root uninstaller program to make proper backups that will work for me?

So I looked up info on both backup programs, and they are both equivalent to using the add/remove OR uninstall feature of windows. I used Nandroid for the full images you already should have the link to my drop box. Since this is a full copy of my system I do require you not distribute it and remove any of my account settings you may find. Feel free to keep any of the apps I have already installed (they were all free anyways). Good luck

IMaybe a little help? I have been following your post and cannot seem to get the drivers to install. I have tried on both w7 and xp. Both computers see it in usb mode but once switched to usb debugging and directed to the driver file you posted it gives me the error the error message incorrect drivers. Titanium back up creates compressed file with apk.gz extension. That is where the app is and you can use 7zip or your favorite util to get tin the install file which will have a .apk extension. Once you do that you can install the app. Copy the app to SD or via cloud drive like dropbox and install.

Help this noob (me) backup/transfer app data from Android 8.0 to Android 13

I'm hoping I'll run into a merciful soul who can help me with some stupid questions. I'm trying to backup app data from my old phone (stock, unrooted Android 8.0) and restore it on my new phone (stock, unrootedAndroid 13).
I previously used Helium to do this, with this exact same model of Android 8.0 phone (LG V20) with no issues. That was several years ago, though. Now I'm encountering two problems:
1. Several apps, such as Candy Crush, are listed as "backup disallowed" in the Helium backup menu. I definitely backed these up in the past, so I'm not sure what's going on.
2. Even with the apps I can backup, I can't get them to restore on the new 13 phone, as the Helium app doesn't seem to see them. It does see my older backups from several years ago, and I can restore from those, but that's not very helpful in this case. The only thing I can guess is causing this is it looks like the newer backups (which are in the same \carbon folder as the old backups that still work) are .ab format while the older ones are all .json format.
I have been researching for days on how to fix this, but I usually end up in threads that go into fairly complex (for me) cmd commands, and I just can't seem to follow them. I'm sure they're written quite well for someone who has some familiarity doing that, but I just don't. I've only ever used cmd when getting specific, step-by-step, dummy-level instructions from tech support.
If anyone can help me surmount these issues, whether through Helium or some other (non-root required) method, I would be really grateful.
If an app disallows backup of its data then no chance when using 3rd-party tools like Helium.
If you don't have root, you always can use the command-line program ADB to make backups with the help of a desktop computer - what requires USB debugging is enabled on both phones in question.

I really, really appreciate your response.
Do you know of any guides for doing this at:
1. Are written for complete idiots like myself? The ones I've found seem to presume a level of comfort with command line interfacing that I just don't have.
2. Go over backing up and restoring data for specific apps? The ones I've found focus on replicating the entire phone.
I'd be willing to root my old phone, but my understanding is that, since it's never been rooted before, this would delete all the app data I'm trying to save. Plus my new phone is a Samsung, and I've read that the newer Samsungs like mine simply cannot be rooted.
Edit: I probably should have mentioned that this is the thread I've found that has gotten me closest to understanding: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...me-between-phones-adb-shell-non-root.4378323/
The main issues I'm facing are:
It says to download the attached "adb.rar," but none of the other threads had mentioned any downloads, so I'm worried about doing that.
It talks about getting app info from "BS4/Pro," but there's no links. I have no idea what that is. So far as I can tell, I can just get the app name by looking at the folder name on my phone or from within the CMD adb commands, but I'm always worried about making assumptions when I already know I have no idea what I'm doing.
Also, I've seen some threads mention that even this method won't work with apps that have backup blocked, but I'm willing to try if I can figure out the other issues.
if the issue is with restoring helium backup, adb is worth a try. it's basically the same method, although helium backups aren't compressed.
if new phone is rooted, restoring backups is possible with more advanced methods.
for apps that have backup opted out, try phone clone apps.
