people, has anyone of you noticed white vertical lines that appear for a fraction of a second when you power on the device? it happens right before lock screen appears... best could be seen in a dark... seems like there is a problem with screen initialization on a driver level...
Could someone check this issue?
Using Lightning ROM 1.5
Sounds like your phone is defective.

i prefer to be more optimistic due to the fact that many others reported the same problem on different forum... xda is more reliable, so I'm trying to collect the opinions here as well
Mine has this, noticed it for the first time yesterday (hadn't seen any reports of this at that time).

don't worry, I think this effect is present on every piece of 9100. more or less obvious for users... it might be not vertical lines that people see but the quick white flash

What effect does this have on any other aspect of the phone, or is it literally only that fraction of a second that there is any apparent effect?

if it is really a problem of display controller low-level driver - it might cause some serious problems as time passes... total screen failure, for instance... as i remember from past cell phones - it was the first sign of upcoming screen death...
but i think that in our case - this is just a minor driver issue in screen initialization process... at least i believe so
I have this problem with the screen as well! and it's annoying to see those vertical lines whenever I wake up the screen.
sometime i can see the lines with "CRT Screen Off" mod, but without they dont appear
Try to do a backup in CW recovery and flash a stock rom.
It can be the CRT effect or any other custom rom issue.
It would be great to know if the problem is due to your custom rom or not.
Hey, sorry to bring this up again, but I'm having the same problem, and it's really bothering me. If there's any way of fixing it, please let me know, I just uploaded the stock ICS 4.0.3 for my device, and it started to show.
mine too has this
Mine also has this issue. only visible in the dark
yeah, same here. I thought i was the only one having this

Noticed this straight away when I got my new phone and it was there before I flashed a custom anything
***Bezeke HOLO LPQ base running bits stuff from everywhere ***
I also have this issue
One large, white vertical line. Clearly visible in all lighting conditions
However sometimes (rarely) it doesn't do it.
I have compared this to a black galaxy s2 (mines white) which doesn't suffer from this issue. It actually seems to delay the screen on / unlock time
The black loads the lockscreen at almost the exact same time as the white displays the lines.
I've been putting off returning it under warranty as I can't do without it..
Its like a jolt of power that hits the screen

yeah, i recently got a phone off someone, and it's been bothering me since, there's no way of fixing it? i hope it hasn't caused anyone trouble, i recently switched to iPhone to this phone and i'm absolutely loving it besides the white flash

If you mean the minute, almost "patterned" grey lines then yes. Every Galaxy S2 has theses.
But bright white, clearly visible line/s which delay the screen-on process.. No, not every Galaxy S2 has it.
Especially if they don't always appear
i don't think its an issue with the phone i had it running an old version of omega rom the latest 5.1 does'nt have that problem.
This morning when I woke up
I realized there are some horizontal grey lines on my phone screen
Then I was outside jogging
I noticed the lines are gone
When I back to my room
I put my phone right under the air conditioner
After 15 minutes
When I pick up my phone
Those lines are there again..!
I bring my phone to my living room
My living room is without air conditioner
After 15 minutes I watched the lines are disappearing
I was so curious
Then I again... Put my phone under the air conditioner in my room
Those lines are back!
After this experiment
I assumed the temperature cause these grey lines on the screen
Is anyone also have the same experience?
Facts:
* even without *#0*# the lines are quite visible
*I lived in jakarta, indonesia my AC is set at 25C
*Outside my room without A I reckon about 32-35C
*stock kj2 with speedmod kernel
I'll wait if those lines keep coming back
Then have to visit samsung service center and the them about this.
Pics would be helpful ... because the early batches of SGS2 had the Yellow spots/Line issues!
i had that issue too. when i flashed MIUI rom and i could see horizontal grey lines on the white notification bar... so i did some research and its the hardware issue.. sometimes flashing a new rom goes a way but comes back randomly..
It is hardware issue
Just bring it to service center
They replace the whole screen for you

Apparently not.
Don't worry, I had the same problem. It happens when it's pretty cold outside. However the problem just dissapeared..
I had the same issue on my 26" led monitor, Galaxy S, Galaxy S II which bought in May and newer Galaxy S II which bought in November too. My room is 22C and outside is -8C.
Is this be a screen virus Its more noticeable on purple and grey colors. Android 4 uses grey colors and my CM9 looks bad.

Hey guys,
This is my 1st Samsung & Android device. Bought it 4 days ago. But I have a strange screen issue . Whenever I press power button to unlock screen or turn on phone, some white vertical bars appear for miliseconds and lockscreen shows up. I'm using checkrom but same problem appears on every rom i tried like darky rom, cyanogen or stock this annoys me so much! I got it from when I was in a foreign country, samsung's international warranty is not applicable in my country. Am I in trouble
i have same problem.
its really very crappy on microbes live wallpaper(not so smooth),
also sometimes its camera get failed and i have to switch off the phone to get camera again working , same happens sometimes in video player, previewing image after taking image from camera takes more time.
someone plzzzz help me to fix this.......
I sometimes get that but a reboot usually fixes it. I think it may have to do with low battery voltage because it only happens on 1 of the 4 batteries I have, usually below 50%.

May be kernel or rom problem. 2nd did you overclock/undervoltage it? That may be the problem.
Or it is your amoled screen
Try ICS and GB, completely wipe your phone, if that doesn't work its a hardware problem = go to service.
Sounds like a the voltages on your GPU or CPU are set wrong or an incompatibility with your kernel clashing with your phone. Revert back to before what ever you flashed if you flashed something.
If not, it's hardware like @Dakura said, could be one of the two or even both.
Battery or the screen.
Battery is cheap to replace.
Try the battery and then the screen if it continues.
Hey @ GreekBlood.. I have not overclocked or undervoltage it.. I tried flashing it to stock rom but it doesn't helped.. is there another way to get rid of the lines on the screen? ?

Hey can you tell me how can I change settings of my cpu or gpu?? And how will I get to know if my cpu or gpu settings are wrong?? I was having omega rom when I first saw the lines on my phone's screen.. and then I flashed the stock rom 4.1.2 jelly bean but the lines were still there.. sometimes the lines go away and then if I don't use my phone for 1-2 hours the llines come back.. so that's why I don't think its a hardware problem if it was a hardware problem the lines would permanently stay on the screen.. so please help and tell what's the solution!!!

Sorry @sharanchopra ! You can download no Frills CPU.
You can try and change the governor to Performace and see if the issue goes away, if not & your phone isn't under warranty anymore i'd suggest taking it apart and making sure everything is nice and snug on the inside. (Flex cable wise your lcd&digitalizer mighten be plugged in properly).

Hi,
I think this is a hardware problem (Screen problem). If you have warranty, they will change your display. If not, you can do this.
Regards.
Hello
My screen suddenly only displays red and blue colors, no green anymore. Neither in LineageOS nor in Fastboot/TWRP so it's not an OS or settings problem.
I suspected a broken display and spend the last two hours replacing it. Still no green. What else could possibly cause this?
It would be a shame to dump a phone that's only two years old and otherwise still working great.
EDIT:
Wait a minute, did I actually check fastboot? I didn't. TWRP maybe has no green at all but the fastboot Logo shows it. So it's not a hardware issue but something in LineageOS. I feel stupid but it's good that we talked about the problem
EDIT 2:
Settings -> Display -> Live Display -> Color Calibration was the cause...
I'm glad you were able to solve the problem in the end.
This post may be able to help someone else with the same issue.
