I just got my 3D today!
Now I am not able to find the best way to root, is there are app or easy way to do this with the evo 3d? With my 4G I would use 4zroot or something like that.
Where can I find CM7?
I really like the 3D part of the phone but cant let go of good old CM7.
And is CM7 fully working? (Other than the 3D pics/video)?
Thank You!
James
What hboot do you have...if 1.50 you're only option is the official HTC method I believe.

All depends on what hboot you have. If it's 1.5, you have to use the HTC method to root, and use the workaround when flashing roms. If you have anything lower than that, Revolutionary should work.

I believe so, check the thread to see.
No. Cm7 doesn't have Wimax or 3D working.
So how do I find out what hboot I have?
phone off - power + volume down

Dang, I have hboot 1.50. . . .
So there will be no easy root and installing of rom's for me?
Not that it's hard, just different and takes a few more steps.
So far this is the best I have found?

Any better ways to root and get a custom rom?
Thinking of trying this rom out.

But really I would like a stock Android rom.

Again, if you are on hboot 1.50, this is the ONLY way to root.

That rom (3.0) is my daily driver, been using it for 2 months now, love it.
But really I would like a stock Android rom.

Then flash a stock rom, or a stock looking rom. There are plenty to choose from.

Because it's annoying having people ask the SAME questions over and over again, when they could find the answer in less than 30 seconds by searching or looking through the guides.

9/10 times you search for something it turns up an answer for a different phone.
Also you see what the question is without going into the thread, why go in it when you are only going to be an annoyance?

Not if you only search the subforum for your phone, or google "root evo 3d site:xda-developers.com"
And that's what the stickies are for as well, at the top of every subforum.

Are YOU developing something? No, then even if this is about the bootloader, since you aren't developing anything or have written a script it goes in General or Q&A (this question I would think could go in either.) but NOT in Development.

JOLT!!!.. God I miss Jolt. is it as impossible to find in your area as it is mine?
use to be had easily at Fred Meyers. but it s all gone. *sniffle*
I call bull**** on that. Plus, even if it was S-Off there isn't anything out there to use since the MAJORITY of us are S-On.
God, these threads are a mess.......I miss the Evo 4G section So organized....
The cdma heroc section was like that too ---and friendly

Seeing as how the two have their own individual sections in this forum, I would say no. If things were compatible, I doubt there would be two separate development sections in the forum. I certainly would not try flashing a CDMA rom to your GSM phone.

thx for the info, will stick to GSM section then, but CDMA development section seems to have more roms than GSM section

I accidentally flashed a GSM ROM to my CDMA Nexus S the day I was trading it back in to Sprint (returning back to stock so I could get my 3d.)
That was a royal pain in the ass to fix. The phone would boot up just fine, just the radio didn't work.
OP: Definitely stick to the GSM section.

porting it over shouldnt be too difficult.. since the hardware is the same.. you would just need to go through the file systems and replace anything cdma with gsm.. that would be your biggest hurdle.. i am porting a sensation rom and having to take out a bunch of gsm crap..
I am pretty anxious to use the new CM9 rom. I looked all over cyanogenmod.com but could not find anything for the amaze... Could not find a nightly build.. nothing. Does anybody have a status update? I am willing to beta test.

Never ask for ETA's from the CM team.

It will attract negative comments because it's in the wrong place. Should be in general, has nothing to do with development.

O...k..., nowhere in my post does it ask for an ETA so get it straight. I was simply asking for any status updates because the sense UI kinda blows...
No harm no foul.

Unless the OP is developing CM7 or CM9 for this device it belongs in General. Moving now.
Asking for the status update for CM9 is asking for an ETA on it's own. Nobody will know until it is successfully uploaded to a server to be downloaded for the public. Any long term fan of CM roms would know this pattern and thus attract the amount of negative comments that you are receiving. In other words, it's ready when it's ready. Even in your OP you were predicting such replies.

the real question is will Cyanogen develop for the Amaze or will it need to be ported by a dev because of the lack of s-off currently?
zPacKRat , they could still use HTCDEV to unlock the device to test or anything .
any help will be cool. I cant find the right answers in the threads. I seen an old answer saying 4g will bork and all..

as stated unlocking does break 4g but if you take the most recent photon update then the boot loader is locked for good from what i've read

I know, but I have some fears with rooting and flashing roms. If I mess up my phone, I don't know if I'd have the money to get a new one for a while.

The only way you could hard brick your phone is if your s off and you mess with your hboot or radios.
The rest can always be fixed.

Thanks for the assurance. I'll have to look into rooting a little more to get a better idea of what to do.

Things to search for (xda or Google)
- HTC dev Site for unlocking bootloader
- hasoon2000's All in one toolkit (for unlocking, flashing recovery)
- ICS RUU for updating firmware. If you are on gingerbread firmware, you will need to update

i was scared at first as well with rooting and it took myself a while to convince my brain to do it. but like mentioned above, you cant break your phone unless you s-off, and once you learn how to flash regularly, you wont have any worries of breaking anything
