[Q] Is it possible to modify google music? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know if anybody else has any issues with google music not recognizing music stored on their sd card, if their phone already has internal storage, but I have noticed on my HTC Amaze that google music will only recognize the music on the internal storage and not all of the songs I had on my micro sd. Is it possible to modify google music to read or find music from more than one location on your phone?
PS I have more music than what would fit on the the phones storage so moving songs from micro SD to the phones internal storage would not be an option.

Delete The google music app and then reinstall it from some other source ! Maybe there's some problem in the APK !

I talked to another amaze owner that had the same problem. The issue is that google music will only recognize music files that are saved directly on the root of the SD card. As soon as the files are moved into a folder within the SD card it stops recognizing that the music is there anymore.

what phone do you have? does it have internal storage and a sd card slot? I have it on my nexus one and it has no problem recognizing music on the phone at all. I think something about having more than one storage place makes google music get all weird.

Putting music on SD card?

I had mp3s on the internal storage, and music app picked them up fine. But I got an SD card, and wanted to use that for music. I transfered the music to the SD card but the music app doens't show them even after scanning for media
Edit: I realized I'm not even sure how to access the SD card from the FS
Edit2: Ugh nevermind, turns out the files on the card just got wiped after I transferred them
Have you formatted your card? I just created a folder on mine called music and copied my music to that

Ok something keeps deleting my music, and I can't figure out what
The SGS 2 has a good taste in music app that deletes a lot of stuff .

Music App wont recognize mp3s on sd card.

Exactly what the title says. I have 1000 MP3's in a Directory called Music on my SD card. The Music app on LTE will not find the MP3's on the SD card. When I cut and paste the MP3's to the Directory called Music on the LTE's memory the Music App will find the songs. I don't want to store all of my music on my phones internal memory.
Worked fine with OG EVO 4G

That is strange, I have all my music in the Micro SD card (ext_sd directory) and both the stock music app and the Poweramp recognize not only my my music but also my playlist's.
Try Poweramp and see what results you may have.
Go into settings and delete the cache/data for the music app that isn't finding the songs. That's what I did and it fixed the same issue I was having with Google music.
I had a similar problem with my EVO View 4G. Try an app in the Play Store called "SDRescan." Let it run overnight while charging.
It could also be that you loaded too much media all at once. I found that when I erased all of Google Currents' data on my tablet, the scan for music completed quickly. What was happening, apparently, is that the tablet was spending so much time scanning the Currents data that it was taking forever to get to the music folder.
Also the most simple but often overlooked thing to do: take the card out and put it back in to force the os to rescan it.

I learned you need to wipe the card using the Settings>Storage options.
Android creates its own folders on the card.
My Photos & Music weren't showing up right at 1st. See the thread I made via my profile for more info on what I did.

This might be an important point, along with how the songs were transferred. If you just loaded a bunch of MP3s to a blank microSD card and put it in the phone, it may have some problems. I formatted the card, put it in the phone, and then used HTC Media Sync to get my MP3s on my phone. They all transferred just fine, and all 526 of my songs show up in the music app.
OP...let us know which of the offered solutions worked for you.
Just a tip, in poweramp there appears to be a shortcut in the internal sd for the external sd which I haven't seen in the other apps I've used but anyway I selected my music folder through the shortcut and it loaded all my music twice, I had to clear the app and scroll pas sd to exsd and select music from there and rescan so it would list the tracks only once

hmmmm never knew about this app would of come in handy a few days ago :/ How do u find the app does it sync itunes to your device in the same folder structure Itunes is in on your comp?
Have you had any problems with files not being seen by your device but being on the storage?
Right firstly on itunes u need to make ur music into playlists which basically means that u drag ur music (album for example) from the music to the bottom left of itunes
U need to download the tunesync for windoww as well as the app on ur phone
Type in tunesync in market its through the market there is a free try before u buy option and the full version
U can select in the androis app which folder to put it into. . U have choice of internal sd card but i wantdd external sd so u ned to point it to the external sd
There ia a free version to try first it only does 20 songs
U need in thr app to click on the sync enable
On the s3 set the path to /mnt/extSdCard/
It is well worth the money

Sync playlists and music from iTunes (MAC) to ext SD with Kies
I have posted in another thread a way to sync (with USB cable, then much faster than WiFi), whatever music you want from your MAC iTunes, including your iTunes playlist, to the external SD Card of your Galaxy S3.
Perhap you want to take a look to it and if it helps you.
Cheers,
Paco

[Q] Google Play Music Ext SD problem

Is anyone else having problems accessing music stored on external SD card via Google Play Music.
GPM on my S3 resolutely refuses to see any music stored on my external SD card ever since the update to version 4.xxxx.
All versions prior to this played music from my external SD card with no problems.
I've tried all the obvious stuff like clearing cache etc. but nothing seems to work.
Other 3rd party music players I've tested all see music on the external SD card. Also, strangely, My Galaxy Note 10.1 with the latest version of GPM CAN see and playback music on the external SD card.
I'd like to start using GPM on my S3 but without external SD card support, it's pretty much useless in my eyes
Has anyone had the same problem and been able to find a solution?
TIA people.
All players see my music on Ext SD card though this topic has been posted before .
Try deleting it and adding back .

Deleting what? The music or GPM itself? I've already tried reinstalling GPM but that didn't work.
Also, I did search the forum before posting this but couldn't find a full thread on the topic. I did find one mention and posted on that one a few weeks ago, but got no reply. Happy to look at the other thread and delete this one if you can give the link.
Cheers.

Music on SD card

My wife has a Z2, but after the latest update, the music app doesn't recognize the music on the SD card, same goes for photos and the album app. Anybody knows a fix for this? It's not rooted.
does Google Play Music read the sd card? Have you tried reinserting the sd card?

I did once have an issue with the music. the music app said no search results when i searched for music, to fix this, i had to copy the music off the SD card then copy it back on so the system re indexed them. I could then search and the music app could find the songs
