Selected network unavailable - Motorola Photon 4G

I have a mopho and my carrier is gsm, before I could connect to the 3g network but since a couple of weeks it says that the selected network is unavailable, but if I do a scan I can see it, just cant connect to it, have tried with all the sbf files that i could found over the internet and with jokersax rom and his fixes with no luck. Does someone have a similar issue?
I can connect to the 2G network, the problem is just with the 3G (wcdma)

WOW, I have not heard the term WCDMA in almost 2 years! Could your problem be related to your Root or ROM? WCDMA is funny and I assume your in South Korea because thats the only place I know (or been) with WCDMA?
South Korea (which my AT&T Fuze did not work anyway. Job gave me loaner) and China have censorships, one day you have it, one day you dont?
Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway (which have some remote areas) had better service than South Korea.
This is why you really don't here me complain much about Sprint!

Try a app called apn global then select your country and add your carrier I am in Sweden and it worked great for me

Call your carrier and ask them to please enable 3g on your sim. Within 10min you will be up and running.

[Q] Firmware Band Selection

Guys,
I am about to received my SGS 2 tomorrow.
I am in Australia on a 850mhz 3g (read not GSM) network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next_G)
I know the phone supports this band, but I see some region firmwares floating around and am wondering if ALL firmwares support this band? Or is firmware specific.
Thanks guys.
Im on VR1.1 with everything else stock and next g is cool with me. Preordered from UK so mines from release.

Can I ask how you know your on Next G and not just 3g?
You can use non 850mhz Bands with Telstra and get std 3g.
Well im just assuming. But where i live all my family get 1bar with optus/3/voda whereas i get full bars. If u have a way for me to check ill have a look

not really sure how to check, the best I could figure out is install Network Info II and check network type
Should be HSDPA/UMTS?
I cant seem to find any tool to tell you exact frequency the phone is using.
It is not firmware dependent (If someone buys a Vodaphone branded SGS2 it is still going to work with NextG, but it will probably just be SIM locked). NextG is HSPA noted by the 'H+' symbol. When I was on Three is was just 'H' which is HSPDA.
If you dial *#*#4636#*#* and go phone information -> menu key -> Select Radio Band -> AUS2 Band
AUS2 is NextG 850Mhz, so if you get internet access on that, it is running NextG. The Phone Information section will also tell you your current network protocol also. If it is reporting UMTS then click the 'run ping test' button, it will flick over to HSPA
Hspa when data is being used
Umts when data is inactive

Also just rum some speed tests and you'll know if you're on 3g or HSDPA.

thanks guys.
Once it has charged I will put SIM in and test all this, very excited as moving from my HTC Desire
Sorry to dig this post up from the grave, but I'm about to move my SGSii to Telstra, as well.
I was wondering if you found benefit to these changes, and if you've changed anything further since.
Have you found any particular ROM/modem to be better (either in reception or battery life) than others.
And, finally, what sort of battery life do you get? I get about 14 hours before I have to plug it in, but I get terrible reception at work (I'm currently on 3), so I'm thinking that might have something to do with it.
Thanks heaps.

International use

Has anyone used the photon international yet?? I am wondering if the sim needs to be unlocked to use another countries or if I can just put a sim in it and it will work. I couldn't find anything in here saying anything about it.
respuesta
I use it in Colombia and Venezuela, the photon is unlocked gsm in Colombia in me works 100% with all operators and low performance in Venezuela but it works well, of course it can be for the quality of the operator in the two countries but in terms photon generally working well. excuse my English but I use a translator
Lol that's ok thank you for the response. I knew it was locked for domestic gsm but I didn't think it was for international.

I can confirm that the gsm part is unlocked for international carriers.

Yep, works fine for me in New Zealand on my carriers 3G 850/2100 network.
Just make sure you get root access and disable the sprint activation if you plan on using the stock rom otherwise it will take an extra few minutes to boot up.

Photon in Mexico

Has anyone used the photon in Mexico? If so .. what provider do you recommend for pre paid sim usage with full data? Going to a wedding and need full capabilities of my phone.

not sure, but if you see any cute women at weading, ....... I use VodoPhone in Sweden on AT&T and it served me well.

I hope your photon breaks and your camera shoots in 0.000MP! oh, and your SD card fails!!
as a fail safe, you can use Sprint International with their rates if it's that important. I never used sprint outside the country. unlock, root, and swap SIM with VodoPhome and see. like $30.00 at most airports I have been.

Try movistar or telcel. Im pretty sure there the big boys over there. My grandpa just came from Mexico to the states and is using a T-Mobile phone with movistar. Idk that helps but good luck with them ladies.

in the past I've just used the resort wifi and nettalk.

There's an user here that has a Photon working with Telcel.
I msgd him a couple of times to ask how good it works and seems to work just fine. What he really couldn't tell me is what needs to be done after you insert the sim card, if the settings are picked up automatically or manually..
I'm going to try myself since I will be going on vacation in a couple of months or so.
I used my Photon in Mexico without any issues. I purchased a pre paid TelCel sim card, and it worked without having to do anything. If you want to use their data, you will need to manually add on TelCel's apns. I recommend downloading apn global from the marketplace for free. You just choose your country and provider, and it fills in all the needed info automatically.
Thanks for the heads up... i have downloaded the apn app and will check into telcel when i get there ... by any chance would you know how much i would be spending on a pre paid sim in Mexico?

Humm I search for APN GLOBAL and I can't see it.. any chance you can drop a link?
When I went to Mexico last September I just activated international roaming in case of an emergency and used groove ip while I was at the resort which was almost all the time I was there.

Carrier name issues on T-Mobile

Hey guys,
I'm kind of new to android stuff, so bear with me .
About a week back I bought this Motorola Photon 4g for Sprint off craigslist and used the kddi radii trick to make it work on GSM networks, namely T-Mobile. Right now imeon the hybrid 2.3.5 rom, but even when I was in the stock sprint rom, the carrier name randomly shows up as T-Mobil instead of T-Mobile. Is there any way to fix this other than spoofing the carrier name? Thanks for the help!
From what I know, the name is stored in SIM card, try to replace it with carrier.
Thanks, I'll try that. I'm actually planning on doing that soon anyway . The strange thing is it sometimes shows the full name T-Mobile, I'm still trying to figure that out haha
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
Where is the trick?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
My phone does this too, I'm not sure why. To me it seems like it says 'T-Mobil' when signal is pretty weak, but i have overall weak signal in my apartment so it could just be me making a bad guess.
same thing
i also have the same thing, but i haven't noticed it till you have mention it.
i guess it belongs to 2G/3G. coz when you are having connected to 2G it tells you T-mobil
while when you are connected to 3G it tells you T-mobile.
pleas tell me if i'm right
Can you not get tmobiles 4g or is it because bootloader is unlocked?

Tmobiles 4g is HSPA+ which is technically 3g
Jellybean Poppin MoPho
You guys must be in the refarm area cause the 3g frequencies are the same as the iPhone's. I'm still waiting on that . Btw I got a new SIM and it hasn't said T-mobil yet so maybe it's just a certain kind of sim that does it?

Will the HTC Droid DNA work in UK

Hi,
A quick question, would the HTC Droid DNA work on a GSM signal network such as O2 - UK? I just want to know if I would be able to send/recieve texts and calls. Also what internet speed would I get? would I get 2G/3G/HSPDA or none?
I have searched around and many sources say stuff about using it on ATT GSM network and when I live chatted with Verizon they said specifically CDMA network only.
Thank you
Taylor_Swift
Whoever you talked to is wrong about it being cdma only. It's a global phone, and as such has gsm bands and is SIM unlocked.
What bands does o2 use, that determine what data works.

Thanks. Ill hit the button. Phew my Droid DNA is in transit with USPS from the 3rd of May. Not sure how long that will take to UK
Take in account you talked about GSM bands so phone at least is going to work 2G. What about O2 UMTS band? This will determine whether or not your phone gonna work 3G.

I used mine on Three's network last month in London, It worked fine.
