[Q] Restore to original rom with broken usb - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since a few weeks my Samsung Galaxy S2 gt-i9100 won't respond to any USB connection. No battery charging, no connection to pc, and also a JIG is not working.
Also note that when last charging a few weeks ago the phone was very hot and vibrating. After that the battery was empty.
When I connect the battery to another S2 it is charging correctly. When I put another battery into the S2 with the problem it is working, but USB is still not working.
I have flashed the phone in october 2011 to cyanogenmod 7.1, with the warning that I will lose waranty.
I think it is not a cyanogenmod issue, but a hardware faillure. Any suggestion how to get the phone back to original rom so I can send it back to samsung for waranty?
If it is not possible, any suggestions what to do know? Maybe getting the partnr GH59-10949A and replace it by myself?
Thanks in advance!

Search for stock rom on Samfirmware.com, flash in Mobile Odin perhaps ? Then use Triangle Away to reset flash counter ?

Triangle away only works on ICS roms.
1.Download any ICS rom, but get one that can be inscalled via recovery.
2. Download Triangle away, let it do its thing.
3. Download the stock rom you want, and sent it over wifi to your phone or download it on your phone.
4. Buy Chain fires mobile odin and flash it. Make sure you untick root, or you will need to go back to step 1 again.
Same thing happened to me they said I got water into the USB and wont fix it but I bought the parts to fix it on ebay.

Thanks. But I don't understand what to do with step 1. Do I have to download a ICS rom to my phone or to my computer, and then what to do with it?

1.Download any ICS rom, but get one that can be inscalled via recovery.
Put on phone install via CWM recovery .
jje

Backup stuff, eg sms etc, (smsbackup+, always works well for me), and copy anything you want to keep eg photos etc to your pc via airdroid.
Download ics rom to phone
Grab triangle away
Grab mobile odin
Download stock rom to phone
Flash ics rom via Cwm recovery
Use triangle away
Flash stock rom via mobile odin
Delete any custom roms from the phone (aka files)

Hi Guys, I have the same problem.
my usb only works for charging. i can see the pins are bent inside the connector and i can't get it to connect to the pc.
i can't seem to find any ICS official rom for recovery install despite searching for 3 days. can any one point me in the right direction?

wanam's stock thread
salesale's stock thread
both in android dev forum

If you have read the last post you would understand!
If your region has ics, just flash using mobile Odin and use triangle away to reset counter.
If your region has GB only than as the post above says
Sammobile.com for stock roms

if you have already rooted and CWM installed you can have latest ICS CWM flashale stock rom from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292825
If you have to use Mobile ODIN as suggested by veyka above,
offial Roms for Mobile Odin can be downloaded from sammobile.com or from the link below for stock roms in my sig or from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487

Sorry maybe i should have given full details.
I am currently on 2.3.5 and want to upgrade to ics. but i can't flash the phone as usb is not functioning.and anoyingly there is no OTA update!!! as i understand it I can update the firmware via Recovery by putting it onto the sd card and restarting in 3 button mode. Correct?
I think i have the files downloading from samfirmwares.com now, but with 40 min to download!

Its stuck on download mode, when i take the battery out it stays on samsung galaxy s2 boot writing , i flashed the I9100XXKI3 kernel to free me from the bricked page where it has a little yellow triangle with the phone and pc picture in the middle
looks too much mess up and you took wrong step in panic..
You should not have flashed a Kernel to get rid of bricked screen (phone!PC), you have to get download mod and falsh complete ROM that time...
you told your Running ROM was 2.3.6 but KI3 is an old version...

then try flashing stock kernel of the same version

Try to use Heimdall. Maybe that works.
You say you dont have Kies. Download kies. Run it and it will install the drivers. Close Kies. Make sure its not running in the background. Install your original firmware that came with the phone using Odin. If your in download mode, your not bricked.

So here's the dealio guys, I've been researching about rooting and custom ROMs and such since I got my S2 (i777) a few months ago. I really don't like Touchwiz, and the stock ICS look is just better. So I found a nice-looking ROM (the AOKP ROM), rooted my phone with no problems using Siyah/Odin, and went ahead and put the ROM in an external SD card that I bought just for this purpose. So I boot into recovery mode (with ROM Manager), and then... nothing. I try to boot up my phone but it just flashes the start screen showing my model number, then just turns right back off. I've tried taking out my battery, still no dice. BUT, I can still get into download mode (but not recovery). So is there any way to restore the backup I made before installing the ROM using the download mode?
Thanks!

Yeah, I hate Touchwiz. I found an unroot file, flashed it, and now I'm back to Gingerbread 2.3.4. I'm going to probably update to ICS again, then try once more to put that ROM on here. I won't use ROM Manager this time, hopefully it'll go alright.

yea, in order to flash a custom ROM, you need custom recovery, ahh hell, been so long i forgot about having a rooted system required or not.
think you do, so should be able to get a rooted package, flash that, enter recovery and flash the ROM that you like.
Maybe someone will chime in and refresh my memory on the rooted system requirement.
U can flash a custom kernel .tar with Odin. There are some siyah tar files floating around. Or u could make a .tar yourself if u really wanted to. Once flashed it'll have cwm built in and u can flash whatever u want.

You only need root to install and use the Mobile Odin app, which is used for installing a custom kernel without tripping the flash counter. Once you've got Mobile Odin, download the custom kernel (e.g. Siyah) you want (ICS kernel if you're gonna install an ICS rom, same for GB), extract the zImage to your phone, and use Mobile Odin to install it. Note that if you're currently running GB and flash an ICS kernel, your phone won't boot but you can still get into CWM, which is all that matters because then you can flash the ICS rom of your choice and then your phone will boot.
Alternatively, you can do what Phalanx said and flash a custom kernel using PC version of Odin. Only difference between this and using Mobile Odin is you trip the flash counter, which can be fixed in any ICS rom by using the TriangleAway app.
The custom kernel will include CWM, which can then be used to flash any ROM/mod; in fact CWM is the ONLY safe method of flashing/wiping/restoring/backing up anything from that point forward.

Bricked S2 too!
I finally bricked my first phone. Its been a long ride but it caught up to me. I have had three different android phones within about 4 years and have successfully rooted all three myself and have successfully flashed them over and over close to 1000 times between all three phones including modems, kernals, gapps, themes etc. So what gives? Why today? To be honest I don't know. But here is what happened...
The past few days I have been going back and forth between different kernals for this device to try to get something that won't freeze up. ( I liked browsing on this phone but I would get freeze ups and therefore would flash something new to try and resolve it.) Today my phone froze so I tried a simple reboot. The boot then did a freeze on the kernal's "intro" picture. It wasn't a bootloop it just frooze. (I was on XWLPT with Skyfire Kernal). I decided to reboot into recovery and flash a different kernel. I flashed NEAK The flash went halfway then stuck and froze. I rebooted to try to get back to the phone's main screen. This time it would not boot. I couldn't tell if it was in bootloop or was froze. I went back into recovery. Here I should of wiped everything but in the back of my mind I thought I could just do it in odin if I lost recovery. So I tried flashing Siyah for sammy roms. This is when I lost everything. It froze in cmw on the flash again but this time when I tried going back into recovery it stayed on the Galaxy SII screen. So I put the phone in download mode and started Odin up. When trying to flash anything in Odin I got stuck on nand write start! I never heard of this. I thought Odin would work as this is how I rooted the phone when I first got it. Last thing I did was install kies which couldn't even connect to the phone. So all I am left with is download mode and taking way more caution when flashing. I think it may have been a case of the brickbug. Even though I was on a I9100 rom and using "safe" kernels I believe something happened to lock me out from writing anything to the phone.
As long as you don't mind overwriting any data on the device you can use Kies for a complete restore. Download the latest version from Samsung, then click on the Tools selection, then "Firmware Upgrade and Initalization." You'll need your devices model number and serial number from underneath the battery. Follow the directions to put the device in download mode and proceed. You'll end up with a new factory-fresh reload.

Now this i didn't know. My SII has been acting really weird ever since I unrooted. It won't let me update my firmware past 2.3.4 for some reason. So if I did this, it will most likely fix that problem?
Alright, I connected my phone to Kies, and went to Tools>Firmware Upgrade and Initialization, and it says my device does not support initialization. It also says this right under my device info:
Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current firmware version: PDA:KH7 / PHONE:LE5 / CSC:KH7 (ATT)
Ugh, really getting tired of this. Why is my phone being retarded? I don't think I want to bother rooting anymore, it seems like more of a hassle than a good thing. I really don't want to have to break my phone to get a replacement with my warranty. How do I fix this, guys?!

[Q] [Hardware Failure] Phone not charging or connecting to computer. Can't use ODIN.

Hello everyone,
I have a big problem, my cellphone charging system is dead and I need to send it to repair. I charged my battery on my friends gs2 so I could try to make it back to stock. I have already reset the custom binary counter with the "triangle-away" app by chainfire. I wanted to use odin to install the default stock rom by from my carrier TMN from Portugal but I can only find .tar files and rooted ones.
I'd like to know if it's possible to "convert" a .tar to .zip and use it on CWM since I can install other roms though it but can't use odin.
I was using the latest leak from samsung xxlsj.
I used other chargers and no sign of charging... Please help me putting my phone stock and unrooted...
How can I manage to do this?
THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE :highfive: !

A usb port replacement costs only a mere 15$ and sometimes cleaning the micro usb with a brush does do the trick for most people.
And if you have root Mobile Odin might help you to return to stock also if you don't have root you can root using Exynos Abuse app by chainfire.
You might have to Unroot later though and using Mobile Odin doesn't trigger the flash counter.
I have not used Mobile Odin with JB so please be careful and read a lot before you do anything.

in order ur phone to be able to covered under warranty u will need to return it to stock by flashing stock firmware through Odin. but thy can still check if ur phone has been rooted or anything other than stock has been flash on the phone. u will also need a USB jig to reset ur flash counter, though there is a tool from Chainfire but for that u need to have to use the phone first which i think u cant.here u can use the following steps
1. Download a stock ROM from sammobile but make sure to download the rom corresponding to your area.
2. put your phone into download mode
3. open Odin, when u see the phone appear in odin select the Firmware u downloaded in the PDA section of Odin. click Flash and wait untill it says PASS In Odin.(Don't check any boxes other then which are already checked in Odin)
4. Google for How to use USB Jig to reset Flash.
Hope that helps

Hey,
I am sorry to hear about your SGS3, one of the XDA TV hosts did the same thing and had the same issues as you
Here's a link to her video where she described what this issue is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMG-_26NgXM

he/she(xda tv host) still has chance in getting it to warranty without repairing it ... by using usb otg (can use plug n play device like regular usb optical mouse)

in order ur phone to be able to covered under warranty u will need to return it to stock by flashing stock firmware through Odin. but thy can still check if ur phone has been rooted or anything other than stock has been flash on the phone. u will also need a USB jig to reset ur flash counter, though there is a tool from Chainfire but for that u need to have to use the phone first which i think u cant.here u can use the following steps
Hope that helps

his only change to get it to warranty is usb otg and attach usb optical mouse this he can pass/ navigate the welcome screen and can install triangleaway for resetting counter.
i think usb jig cant reset counter in gs3 but can put it to download mode only.

[Q] With the connector broken, how can I install a stock rom?

Recently my phones connector broke. I need to take it to repair but to install the stock rom but everything I found here to do this is using Odin. The problem is that my computer does not recognize the phone because the failure in the connector, so this method is not suitable for me. Is any method to do this using CWM recovery?
By the way, maybe it is not completely necessary to install a stock rom. I am going to take it to repair to a samsumg official custom care service and I know that they don't do any special check to know if the phone is rooted or flashed. I think that if the phone looks like is running its original Rom it will be enough. I erased the yellow triangle but I don't know how to erase the cianogenmod animation when switching on.
Any help with one of this two?
Thanks a lot
P.S: Remember that I can't connect the phone to the computer

As ur phone is already rooted and running a custom rom u can always use 'Mobile Odin' to flash a stock firmware on ur phone, so that it will unroot ur phone
before that u can always use 'Triangle Away' app to reset ur 'Binary Count'
Probably make a nand of current setup. Then make sure TA has cleared things. Then install mobile odin and flash a stock rom for ur region off sammobile. Then remove all traces of root and wipe all your data off phone(including that nand).

maybe your an iphone expert
